¿Best AOSP ROM? ¿AOD? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hey, guys. I have two questions today that maybe you can answer me. I am currently using BatMan ROM V1.3.0 and I would like to try for some time an AOSP ROM. Wich do you consider it is the best AOSP nowadays? Do they have several bugs such as camera related or something like that? Besides, I would like to know if there is any way to have Always On Display in AOSP's ROMs.
Thank you for your time!

new gs3 user looking for rom advice

Hey guys! Just got my gs3 as a replacement for my galaxy nexus . I would like some general tips about the device as well as a recommendation on a ROM. Ideally something that is super stable , good battery life, and doesn't conflict with WiFi tether . thanks in advance !

Thanks! What about something that's AOSP based? Not sure I like TW.
There are quite a few different ROM's out there, you'd just have to look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1672
CleamROM is the only one I've used and probably will ever use. It's super stable and debloated that's all I really need. SynergyROM is a real popular one because it has Multiwindows but I don't really care about that right now & it seems to have some bugs. You just really need to check out all the ROM's and ask questions in those particular threads.

For AOSP ROMs, check here. I'd recommend AOKP, CM10.1, or ParanoidAndroid. But generally I prefer Touchwiz ROMs like Synergy or CleanROM because I encountered a ton of bugs on both AOKP and CM10.1.

Thanks! I guess I'm looking for a relatively bug free experience I'd avoid AOKO/CM. Just out of curiosity are they serious bugs or minor ones?
The only bad thing about AOSP ROMS I'd the fact that all the "cool" features of our phone can't be utilized. Things like the motion actions, WiFi direct, all share, just to name a few. There are more. That's the biggest reason I haven't flashed AOSP stuff. I bought the phone, for full price, to get these Touchwiz features. Just my opinion.

[Q] I need help choosing a ROM please

So I rooted my TMobile branded HTC Sensation a couple months ago and can't believe I went that long without attempting to root it.
The first ROM I flashed was Android Revolution and I loved it! I love the Beats Audio and the ability to hide apps along with all the little things you over look. I also love how sleek the UI appears.
However, voice searching in Google Maps and in general doesn't work and I would like to install Google Now on my HTC Sensation. Can anyone recommend a good ROM I can try out? I have a trouble finding any ROMs worth looking into besides the "popular" ones.
If you want to customize it, install ViperS. It does slow down after a while, but a slight overclock of the CPU might help. So many options and add ons

I would've read the whole thing if I could even remotely understand that horribly broken English.
Send I was not asking for the "best" ROM. I was asking for suggestions of less well known ROMs that get buried and are worth trying.

Hi
greetings
I must seriously join English classes due to my bad english
basically you cant ask for roms AT LEAST HERE ON XDA
you must find out on your own
LOOK INTO DEVLOPMENT SECTOR YOU WILL GET ALL OF THEM
Well, I can tell you that Bruce's CM10 is rock solid and because it's JB (4.1.x) it has Google Now. The one I'm using right now is Albino's CM10.1 (4.2.x), which also includes Google Now by default. It's also really stable. If you decide to go with CM, I'd suggest you install a custom launcher like Apex so you can hide the apps.
To Sense or not to Sense? That is the question that first must be asked to one's self, in order to begin their journey of ROM finding.
If Sense, which version of Sense? 3.6 or 4.x? Sense 3.6 offers speed, reliability and stability. Whilst, Sense 4 delivers the beauty of a newer GUI, greater features but with the sacrifice of smoothness and battery life, generally.
Roms for 3.6:
Elegancia
ARHD
Energy
Ordroid
CoinDroid (The evolution of InsertCoin, this was amazing back in the day)
Roms for 4.x:
ViperS
DarkSense
CommuniSation
If one wishes not to Sense, the choice must be made of which Android version to use. 2.3 all the way up to 4.2.2. Once the choice is made, the decision for AOSP, AOKP, CyanogenMod and MIUI is also to be made. AOSP provides the sleek, native and stock Android ROM that Google's Nexus devices all use. No tweaks, just the purity and speed. AOKP and CM are mod heavy, if one chooses to do so. Which aid in doing things to your phone which were otherwise, unforeseen in the world of mobile technology. For example, changing status bar elements, editing hardware key functions and notification area elements. MIUI, can't speak on this too much, but I feel it gives your phone an iOS feel, different to any other android skin/ROM and very orange. Didn't really like it, but that's me.
For AOSP:
Can't think of one off the the top of my head.. A quick search will do ya.
For AOKP:
Frankinstine's!
For CM10:
Bruce's!
NameLess Bean
Albinoman's
For MIUI:
ASR-Droid and many others.
im not quite happy with camera shots with all the Jelly Bean roms. i tried many JB roms and all seem take terrible pictures. then i tried a Sense based rom and pictures were much better. i dont find Sense to be bad.
so what i'm really looking for is a sense based Jelly Bean rom? all the ones i've found so far are all ICS/Sense. is there any JB/Sense rom at the moment?
thanks for your help.
i can live with a non-sense JB rom but in terms of camera, does anybody have a suggestion? i think i will try a a few camera app if i can't find a sense/jb rom.

Viper just released the first JB Sense ROM for Sensation, however camera doesn't work at all, so if you want Sense with working camera, you're still stuck on ICS. As for JB on CM/AOSP, just try a few camera apps from Play Store and see which one suit you best.

[Q] ROM 4.4.3 HAMMERHEAD Mahdi-Rom 2.6

I am a pretty much new to all of this, have had some experience eg. I've rooted my phones in the past, installed custom roms. But that is as far as it goes. I am not a developer, I know nothing of posting logcats. I just flashed Mahdi-Rom 2.6, love it, I have absolutely no complaints. All I am doing is posting what I perceive to be a small glitch. Whether its fixed or not matters not to me, its not that big of a deal, and for all I know it may not even be a glitch, but if it is and you run into it, hopefully you do know how to present a proper logcat and maybe these awesome fellas here will help you out. Here is the glitch I am talking about. When in immerse mode and using pie, longpress is useless. Again, doesn't bother me at all, but I figured what the heck, might as well report it just in case it bothers someone else. Also screencapture doesn't work at all! Again I rarely if ever use it. I will say that this Rom, this website, this whole experience makes me wonder what took me so long to make the switch from apple to android. You guys rock!!!!

I'm also running Mahdi and the longpress works with SlimPIE in Immersive mode. Screenshots work too while using Vol down + power or any other option/app.

Best Rom and Kernel for Galaxy S6?

Need your guys/girls opinions on what best stable Rom and Kernel at the moment for the galaxy s6 for everyday use.
Thanks ?
waiting for answer too
Personally, Frankenstein ROM + Aldeon Kernel.
Might change it to a AOSP-based ROM soon, like LOS14.1, but the camera with non-stock ROMs is worse. And on 8.0 and beyond, hardware encoding doesn't work so that's not even really an option - for me, at least.
Best rom?
Sir you want it... you get it
I am working at my website and trying to update it as often as possible.
There you get a bunch of the newest/best custom roms and ports for the S6!
Give me a feedback if possible

Bad idea for a website ?
I don't imagine you'll ever get a lot of traffic on it, considering that XDA is the go-to for ROMs and kernels, and people prefer to get their things directly from the source.
Design looks nice, though.
Ahhhmmm....

Thanks for that quick feedback!:good:
My website´s aim is to give JUST the BEST of custom stuff for the S6 and NOT ALL like XDA...
You can imagine my website as a place where just tested roms by myself are posted with a nice review!
I comparision to XDA I am the one and only person who can decide which Rom is going to be posted on my website(The dev of that rom ofcourse to) and there is the big difference!
You get 100% good and safe stuff for your device, because I did all the risky stuff by testing the roms already!
So I think you´re wrong mate... I surely will get a lot of traffic on my website

Might have to have a look at Frankenstein ROM and see how it is, do you know if there is any major bugs or heavy battery drain with that ROM?

No, none. Battery is quite well.
Honestly, it's been the best I've found. I've looked through most, if not all, ROMs that could be daily drivers. The Ultimate Nougat S8+ ROM isn't bad either, but it's more bloated - it does have extra features though.
Currently trying Resurrection Remix 6.0 (Oreo/AOSP). It's as I would've thought - aside of the camera being crap (which isn't really a thing about this ROM, but any AOSP ROM), everything else works well, except for the part where it heats up... A LOT.
Hi,
I am interested in that too, as Samsung won't update S6 further more.
What I understand is we have Resurrection and Frankenstein, that is it right?
No news on Cyanogenmod discontinued with no other stable alike. I used back then with S2.
I have a question though, what is port? I found some people asking "is that a rom or a port".
Thanks.

CyanogenMod is dead. LineageOS is its replacement.
LOS14 (Android 7.1.2) and LOS15 (Android 8.1) are the current ones.
Ports are ROMs as well. For example, an S8 port, is simply said a combination of an S6 and an S8 ROM in such a way that it'll work on the S6.
On one hand, you have TouchWiz-based ROMs, such as Frankenstein, Ultimate Nougat S8+, Nemesis Nougat, Global Elite, Superlite S8 (or something like that, I forget the name), a couple of A8+ Ports, etc. They look like Samsungs usually do. If you're looking for a ROM that's as stable as possible, this is your best bet.
On the other hand, you have AOSP-based ROMs, such as LineageOS. In the same category, you also have CrDroid, NexusOS, Resurrection Remix, AICP, AOSPExtended, XenonHD, OmniROM, AOKP, etc, but they are basically just LOS with extra features (don't mean to offend the devs or anything, but it's true). They look like stock Android - the way Pixel, or Nexus phones look. Latest features, quickest, but occasionally have bugs because of stuff being closed source.
And then, you also have ROMs like MIUI, which isn't TouchWiz, but isn't really AOSP either.

Just installed Frankenstein ROM + Aldeon Kernel and it seems pretty snappier than stock now, gonna test this out for 2weeks and see if everything is good.
Thanks
Edit: been testing it for a few weeks and seems great stable and smooth and battery life seems great. Might try out LOS and see how that preforms for abit.
*Recommend Frankenstein ROM + Aldeon Kernel as a daily as its really smooth. ?

Very informative post, thank you very much for your efforts
Would you support one more thing? What tool should I use to install a kernel and a ROM, not to mention take a complete backup first? There are some tutorials out there I know, but I have been out for a long time now, so I want to know the best programs and methods from a trusted source.
Thanks.
Well, there's not many options in that regard - just one, actually: TWRP. Most ROMs/kernels on this site can only be installed using it. It also does full backups (except of the internal storage like photos and such). It has to be flashed using Odin - considering how well known this device is, there should be plenty of step-by-step videos for that process.
It's also a good idea to have a stock firmware and Odin on your PC, in case something goes really bad and you have to start from the beginning. Probably won't happen, but just in case.
Ports/Roms
So a PORT is a similar Software(System) from another device which is ported to our (In this case the S6)... For example there are S8+ ports (So the S8+ software with some of its features which works on S6)...
You may check my website for stuff like that ^^

Last time I used Frankenstein, some time ago when it first came out, I believe I ditched it because I was really into making my own custom boot animations, and that kernal didnt jive with my stuff.. I will give it a shot again now tho
