Hello, not sure if this is old news but just noticed that after an update, my Gear S3 started receiving YouTube notifications. My life is complete now haha

Yeah it's there now good times are here again!!

I just got the update last night. I'm on T-Mobile. Any other new additions included in this update?
I was really hoping to get rid of the required PIN for Samsung Pay. Annoying to have to constantly enter it if I'm not wearing my watch super tightly all the time. Might just abandon Samsung Pay on my watch and just use it on my phone from now on...

The new update allows you to set the pin for payment only. I think the settings menu changed a little bit, not noticing other major changes.

The update from T-Mobile states that VoLTE was added, a patch for the BlueBorne security issue was added and "Samsung Value Pack 1" was added. I have tried, with no luck finding out what this Value Pack 1 contains. I assume it is different than the Value Pack from April.
That being said, I notice no differences in UI, Settings UI or widgets.

Notifications not showing on edge

I only received the edge yesterday, and I can remember that while I was setting things up, notifications were showing up in the edge screen. However, since then, I only get notification icons appear in the top notification panel, and not in the edge screen. I have set up the edge notification panel set up correctly, and selected all apps.
Incidentally I have my android wear watch connected. Should this make a difference?
I had this happen to me before. I rebooted my phone and everything was fine afterwards.

Yeah.. I hate to say it but I had the same exact problem and it turned out to be the Android Wear. If you uninstall Android Wear, notifications start working on the edge screen again.

Notifications work fine for me with Android wear running. But I would make sure "mute connected phone" is unchecked within the Android wear settings.
Thanks for both the replies. Weird thing is the notifications started working again this morning - bizarre.
Would be good if there was more customisation of the edge panel possible.

True true, such a shame for samsung to neglect it when it has so much more potential. Wonder if there will be an Note Edge 2? And not like the S6 variety hopefully.

As much as we all dream or hope..but we have to accept the reality that samsung is using edge owners as guinea pigs to test out the market...which lead them to release s6 edge. The note edge is only a "test" product for samsung. Dont think they will improve any further not to mention even updating to 5.1 ....guess tough luck for us edge owners..

Well I'm used to being a Samsung guinea pig after owning the galaxy camera, s4 zoom, galaxy nx and now the edge.
To be honest I think that the edge will get lollipop eventually, but I'm not that fussed to be honest. I bought the Edge on what it can do now, and still think it offers a lot more than the note 4. Plus reports are that lollipop for the note 4 has bugs a plenty...

Well we have loly already...in fact im already running it..but it seem they wont update them to 5.1. Personally i have no problem since my edge is already fast and smooth. But still ...im sure if u own a device..especially something kinda top of the range and pricey..and still only released less than a year...suddenly you learn the manufacturer just dump us..and not plan updating..im sure we will be very pissed.

5.0 is a prequsite to 5.1 and will come to the Sprint variant via ota but not until Q4 or later depending on delays. 5.1 (Sprint variant) updates the radio/modem, connectivity issues.
I can't speak for Verizon/at&t/T-Mobile as each carrier sends out their own ota updates NOT Samsung so its not Samsung's fault you don't have lollipop that is your wireless carriers fault so blame them. Its completely up to your wireless carrier to release the update or not...some carriers do more testing than others some add more bloatware. Basically your wireless carrier gets the update and they add their insignia, bloatware, carrier apps, restrict tethering, add locked boot loader, so on and so forth.
If your an at&t customer expect them to keep locking it down so its harder to root...they love their locked bootloaders.
Sprint & T-Mobile tend to have the least amount of bloatware/changes hence why its released quicker.
I have a similar issue. I installed Augmented SmartWatch Pro for some of the features it could add to the Edge. As a result, it shut off all of the notifications on the Edge (LED, Briefing bar, top of phone, etc) , but that was to be expected as Augmented is supposed to be the one-stop for notifications..
Anyway, the app was a bit clunky so I uninstalled it and only some of the notifications came back. The LED notification light - dead. The briefing edge bar - only shows Google mail notifications, no txt notifications and no IMAP company email notifications. I've gone into settings for the phone and ensured LED notify is checked, as well as inside of edge settings I've triple checked that the information stream is on and the notifications I want are selected. I also rebooted the phone, of course. While I know some ppl don't even use these aspects as a matter of preference, I really miss the LED (old Blackberry habits die hard) and the briefing notifications summary was handier to me than the top of the phone icons.
My suspicion is that the Augmented had a dirty uninstall where it didn't revert some of the settings inside the OS back to default, and those settings I can't get to via the GUI. Does anyone know some root commands that I could check or am I just going to have to go back to factory default/wipe the phone? I'm somewhat ok with doing that as I only got the device on Wednesday.

Does Samsung know they sold Gear S2's in the USA?

We're going on 2 months since other countries and markets received updates addressing the "screen on time" and "lack of weather updates". What gives Samsung??? Why are you ignoring the SM-R732 R732XXU2AOJ3 models??? :crying:

Maybe they have not yet updated the SM-R732's (non-3g) in the U.S. because they are simply a huge bureaucratic global corporation where one part doesn't know what the other parts are doing. But the U.S. is also one of the few markets that have been offering the 3G versions at all, so it could be that they need (or want) to roll out specific updates for the S2s tied to carriers (Verizon, AT&T, etc.) that fix issues peculiar to the 3G versions (e.g., battery life) before they roll out the update for the non-3Gs.
Another possibility is that they're about to release the Samsung Pay update that enables the NFC capabilities, and so those of us in the U.S. will leapfrog the modest update that people started getting back in November. One can hope.

I have the Gear S2, you know, the one that came out BEFORE your T-Mobile 3G. Nice of Samsung to update the carrier models and completely ignore the early adopters that didn't want 3G.

One things for sure - Samsung is ignoring their S2 customer base in the US. No update, no discussion, no acknowledgement at all. I will reconsider my next Samsun purchase if this is their customer service standard.

I got the weather update to work by using the stock weather on my Note 4. Now it updates as it should. If you don't have a Samsung phone or if you've rooted I don't know if it'll work. I had to delete all the other weather apps though and I liked Transparent Weather. But if I'm using the Gear to get weather then I don't really need my phone that much.
I wonder if it is possible to "hide" a phone behind European proxy and try to update watch? Maybe sim card needs to be removed in case phone checking for location even with wifi on.

Well, back to not updating. How weird is that? Gotta get this fixed, Samsung. Assuming, of course, there actually IS an update out there. Somewhere. Maybe.
Just got all excited! Had an update for my S2 and did the install. Nope. Still the same old AOJ system on the watch. I"m hatin' me some Samsung right now. Anyone else get that today? Any idea what it is??
AND I lost all but 2 of my watch faces even though I backed them up. This sort of poor coordination and customer support is unacceptable.

It is an update to the app itself (Gear Manager, Plugin) and not the software update. This is what we've been getting since the devices launched.

You're in for a rude awakening if you think the Gear S2 is going to receive regular or frequent updates in the U.S. or anywhere else. The Gear S on AT&T never received an update the rest of the world received months earlier and only got one stability update from its original launch s/w.
Samsung typically gets their watches stable and leaves them there moving on to the next watch for any additional features. All Gear S2's will probably receive two or three updates then die there. Carrier versions may get fewer depending on each carrier's mood. We'll get Samsung Pay and that might require an OS update on the watch but if history repeats itself that'll be it. The Gear S3 will be out a year-ish after the S2 and will have features and enhancements that won't be passed down. That's just the way it is.
P.S. - I knew this coming from two previous Gear's and bought it anyway.

No doubt. Luckily I like the watch, even with one or two things off. What I don't like is being ignored so when I do buy again I'll probably go Moto and HTC.

Well - the rest of the world has received TWO UPDATES to their S2 and the Carriers have at least received one update since I got mine in December. I don't necessarily expect frequent updates, but when the rest of the world gets 2 updates and I've YET to receive 1 of them, it gets EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING. Between this and almost NO APPS, can't say I'll think about the S3!!

You must not have done a lot of research. You buy a Gear for its advanced capabilities when paired with a late model Samsung phone. Third party apps have always been thin and that'll most likely continue. The core apps are strong. All smartwatches, especially those that need to be tethered, are a solution looking for a problem. At least the S2 is comfortable and stylish at doing what it does.

Most recent update

How do I get the most recent update? My Gear Manager shows I'm up to date but I haven't updated in a while.
Not sure I have the same issue
I am having the same issue. What version of Gear Plugin and Samsung Gear app are you using. I am using 2.2.16070451 for the Samsung Gear app. And 2.2.03.16071152 for the Gear Plugin.
That's the same version I have this is weird
---------- Post added at 01:43 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:42 AM ----------
I am seeing so many articles talking about the update and download and I don't even have the update keeps saying I currently up to date
Has anyone for this update yet?
I have the same problem. My Gear s2 is the "regular" version (not a carrier version and not the classic). Also using 2.2.16070451 Gear app. & 2.2.03.16071152 Gear Plugin.

whats weird is i received an update the day that i saw an a article saying a big update is being rolled out. but i have the same version as the above, so who knows what update i received. or what it does. maybe its an update to prepare for the big update, to make sure our phones and watches will be able to take it with minimal issues. just guessing,

It's crazy because I haven't seen a video on YouTube about the update I got the Samsung pay update which updated the gear app but have not received an update for the watch itself
Called Samsung and they said I should definitely have had the update from the 15th and did verify that my phone still has the old firmware. They could not help me over the phone and told me to take it to a Samsung shop at Best Buy. I will do that today and see what happens.

Yep went to the Samsung shop and they are complete and utter morons. Totally incompetent. All they did was make it so I had to reinstall all my watch-faces and the phone app now gives me an error when I try to re-order apps and crashes. She couldn't even understand what I was talking about regarding a firmware update for the watch. No matter what way I tried to explain it over and over. Such a difference between Apple support and Samsung so called "support". What a joke. Now I am worse off from when I started. No update and and the app now crashes. Great, Looks like I'll be trading this in for a Android Wear watch when the new ones come out.
Finally got the update! Samsung support still sucks though. Hope this fixes the broken app issue that they broke.
Got mine today
Got my official update last week and it bricked my watch. Now in boot loop and under recovery menu factory reset is missing, only download, which as far as i can tell is totally useless and shut down. So have to take it to the 4th Samsung shop, the ones i have been at are of no help.
So nice, thank you for the OFFICIAL wonderful update, be careful, it could turn your watch into a bracelet.
Yeah I now have no faith in their support. The app is still broken and Samsung doesn't seem to give a damn let alone be able to fix it. I hope my S7 Edge has no problems until I pay it off. If a company cannot provide support or is unwilling to do so, there is no reason to purchase their products, plain and simple. Not getting the Gear S3 when it comes out which I was going to do, not getting the Tab S3 when that comes out which I was also going to do. I'll go with an Android Wear 2.0 watch when they start hitting stores and keeping my Ipad Air 2.

Tips and Tricks found *UPDATED 11/28*

Hey all, Just got my LTE variant and have been fiddling around with it and have discovered some things. Wanted to post here and let people know what I've come across.
So far I have discovered:
-Gear works with Rooted Devices (at least with my Note 4)
-Samsung Pay from Gear works with Rooted Devices (Can't add my Discover Card yet, planned support for hopefully end of year)
-You DON'T have to use the default texting app in order to send/receive/reply to messages from the S3. So far, the apps I've found that support this are Google Hangouts, ChompSMS, Textra, and Google Messenger. It does have a few hangups though. This thread states the methods I used to achieve this and the hangups observed by doing this.
-You can control phone music from the s3, but cannot stream to it...yet.
-Gear seems to auto lock when removed from wrist. Unable to tell if it's based on the lack of heart beat or sense of movement. Not an issue, just making aware.
-Gear supports AOD (Always On Display). The type of display given is based on the watch face currently in use, so it would appear your watch face must have support for it otherwise it will default to a stock face (needs testing). Using AOD will shift pixels around to prevent burn in every time you go to wake the watch. Have lightly tested and can verify it shifts. Will be testing on my next charge cycle to test battery life and burn in potential (trying to test as much as I can within my 14 day period of which to exchange for another device (lemon law)
So far that's all I've come across and will update this page accordingly with more information. Please feel free to add yourself anything you have discovered so we can let the rest of our Gear toting brothers and sisters know these tips and tricks.

The Samsung Pay you use is a baked in app that is part of the Samsung Gear app. I have in installed on my rooted Nougat port on my HTC 10 and it works perfect. You don't need the official Samsung Pay app installed on the device at all. It seems as of now, that Samsung thinks the security on the watch is enough to allow you to use it side by side with a rooted phone. I hope it stays that way, because I have never been able to use Android pay because of the Root issue.

Yes I did. However have been very busy since getting it and have not had time to update the thread. I've tested a few additional features and even a skin from Skinomi to protect the watch. When I have time tonight I will try to update what I can.
What I can say now, the watch feels a little lackluster, but since it's my first wearable, and it works for what I bought it for (messaging/calling, Samsung pay) it works great. But there are time I worry I'm not using it to its potential or it's just in its baby phases and doesn't have many apps yet.

I just picked mine up a few days ago a and that sums up my feelings also. It's my first smartwatch and I've been wondering if I'm using it's full potential. I haven't been thrilled with the battery life but I have been playing around with it a lot and have only charged it a couple of times. Hopefully that will improve when I finally decide on a watch face that I can live with, I think I've changed the face a couple of hundred times.
Samsung Pay is available on S3, the only difference is that if you bought the BT version, it'll requires that you have the phone nearby for the 4GLTE to make the payment or such. If you have the LTE model and uses that, then you should be fine.

Correction, BT version can do 10 transactions without the phone nearby for Samsung Pay. After that, you need to sync with the phone to get another 10.

Me too!!!
Hi where are you based to have recieved this update? Also what is new?
Nothing here in U.K as far as updates concerned...
Update available for me in California - US. Wifi version of S3 Frontier connected to my T-mobile Note 8.
Hopefully it fixes the damn lag issues with Tizen 3.0.0.1, My S3 went from being amazing pre-Tizen 3.0 to a steaming pile of **** with 3.0.0.1... it Lags increadibly HARD. I wan't to downgrade back to 2.3.2.0 but from everything that I've been reading, its possible but we loose S Pay... Anyone have any info if there is a downgrade available with SPay still functional?

I'm in CA too with the Bluetooth version and I got the update yesterday and it has destroyed my battery life. 4 hours tops. Perhaps they pulled it because of this issue. I wish I knew how to roll back, it's not even worth taking it off of the charger its so bad.

Crap... I'm literally in the middle of doing the update... maybe after a master reset it'll settle down again? If this makes my gear S3 take a dive... I'm just going to reset to 2.3.2.3 whether I can use SPay or not... this is effing ridiculous man...

Let me know how it goes for you. If your battery life is ok then I'll know my issue is something else. I was good on the previous version of 30.0.1

3.0.0.1 made my S3 Frontier lag like nasty... On 2.3.2.0 it was amazing, snappy, responsive, could get rid of the S Health b.s. I commute over an hour to and from work and use my watch to control my music on my phone. After a certain time, the watch just gives me the notification that I've been sitting for over an hour and doesn't let me swipe down and click on the music tray to quickly get to the music controller. If I pick up calls using my watch, it takes over 3 seconds before the mic begins to work... it just lags and is over all slower than crap... Makes me want to chuck the watch. I love S Pay though, but at this point I'm willing to forgo S Pay and just downgrade Tizen to have a good functioning watch. My batter went from 80% to 74%. I'll let you know how the battery performs with the update. Hopefully the response is snappier too, but I'm not expecting much at this point.
Nothing here on my T-Mobile Gear S3 frontier. I'll keep a look out, while I continue to hunt down the internet for a downgrade to Tizen 2 without bricking this thing again.
I miss the days with the Gear S where I could just plug in the watch and get the files easily off of SamMobile.
Update available for me in California - Wifi SM-R760 version of S3 Frontier connected to my T-mobile Note 8.

Is there anyway to go back to old firmware? I bought the watch on 3.0.0.1 and everything seems to be miles out...steps....floor count....ect.
Wonder if all that was better on old firmware?
I would sacrifice samsung pay for accurate fitness measurements.

Hey PiperGCA,
So I've been testing my S3 and with 3.0.0.2 seems to be a little bit snappier than 3.0.0.1 (No where near as snappy as 2.3.2.3 but improvement is improvement!) The battery is also doing really well! Have you tried to factory reset your S3 Frontier since you upgraded the firmware?

its released for uae based.i have changed csc to uae for using spay in india and i got this update.it will reflect soon to every region.
its based on battery life improvement and bluetooth connection improvement.
Hey mates!
as per my own experiance with gear s3 frontier.from the first 2.3.2.3 version to 3.0.0.2 is that-
1.sammy made very much disappointment in tizen 3.0.0.1
which was seems to be better.
2.in my experiance over tizen 3.0.0.2 is now sammy have implement quiet better battery life and connectivity improvement.
3.if anyone wants to revert back then he can revert but i would suggest all of members to reset your watch when u get an new update.first update and then reset it.so,you can get max. profit from your update.
4.there might be some issue can be found with tizen 3.0.0.1 or tizen 2.3.2.4 while adding spay cards.because software with server is upgraded but not your firmware.due to that it might not get activated.
The Samsung announcement mentioned in the OP appears to be only for the R760 (Non-LTE model) - Is there a similar announcement either from Samsung or AT&T for the R765A (LTE model sold by AT&T)?
