Here's the ota url: https://android.googleapis.com/pack.../19d4dd2871636b2bc9ee95445a3f208b0c0cf7e0.zip
Not much we can do with it, but there it is anyway.

This phone getting evil fast...this update brings real performance

Can we at least push the OTA via ADB? System updates says I'm on the latest version...

new camera version 01069

I just got it, but had to check for updates like three times.
Edit: taking forever to install.

It made it so much smoother for me. Any of the lag I experienced is gone. And the camera seems so much better.

Yes i absolutely agree

Something I noticed with this update...
I have the Pixel Camera apk installed. Prior to this update, when taking a photo with the phone in portrait orientation, then tapping on the photo thumbnail in the lower right, the app and system softkeys overlapped. Rotating to landscape, then back to portrait, resolved the issue. However, now that bug seems resolved altogether. Not sure of the relevance, but I thought it was a notable improvement.

Yes, you can.
Get the Google USB drivers and install them:
https://developer.android.com/studio/run/win-usb.html
Get the Google platform tools and unzip them to a new folder:
https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools.html
Enable Developer Options on the phone and enable USB Debugging (look it up).
Plug your phone into the computer. Let it install any drivers it needs. Reboot if asked, or perhaps do so anyway.
Open a command prompt at the unzipped platform tools (hold shift and right click to get the option).
Copy the OTA zip to this folder. For simplicity, rename the file to ota.zip.
Issue the following command to make sure your device is seen:
adb devices
You should see your device id listed. If not, perhaps try rebooting and issue the command again.
Reboot to recovery:
adb reboot recovery
**OR**
Hold power and volume up while booting the phone.
You should see Andy laying down with an exclamation point popping out.
Hold power and press volume up.
From the menu, select 'Apply update from ADB'.
In the command prompt, type:
adb sideload ota.zip
Let it do its thing. It will install the OTA and reboot to finalize the installation.
I have tested this and it works fine on our phones.

Interesting, I still have this problem. I'm on version 4.0 of the Google Camera APK.

Thanks. Worked. Had a few issues with the bootloader for some reason though. Trying to launch Recovery tended to just power off, same for restarting the bootloader. And even Starting System after the OTA. Got a little worried for a bit. I eventually got it, but I couldn't tell you how. Just a heads-up for anyone else.

I'm certainly glad I decided to keep this phone. Each update seems to make a noticeable improvement. Scrolling still isn't 100%, but it's darn close. Now if we can just get source files so the devs can start working their magic, everything will be rosie.

I'm still having this issue... Even after updating

Anyone have the latest file? I tried ADB sideload but it gave me a package version error. It says "Eackage is for source build 335 but expected 365". Any ideas/tips? Thank you

I have the Sprint variant and still yet to get the OTA. Maybe it has only been pushed out thus far to the direct-from-essential models?

I'm on Sprint as well and no update. I really thought it would come soon since there aren't many ph-1 devices out there.

Looks like some security updates and others report performance enhancements shaving off up to 2 seconds on opening apps from cold.
Looks like the firmware update fixed the issue with playing music stored from sd card with the screen off.
Firmware update failed to install for me...
Under Control Panel / View Update History:
Failed
Error code: 800F020B
Not able to find the update to try again either.
I got all the updates in little bits... the firmware was last but it looks like it improved performance!!
Update failed for me also, same error, can't find a way to reinstall it, Windows Update states that no updates are available.

I found a way to fix this:
Open Control Panel on the desktop, go to System, and Device Manager.
In Device Manger, find Firmware, and double-click Surface RT System Aggregator Firmware
Go to Driver, and Roll Back Driver.
When this is done, restart Windows, then run Windows Update again.

I take it back. It only made it a little better. Instead of stopping the music after 10 sec with the screen off, it stops after the song is over. You still have to manually turn on the screen for the next song to play. Lame.
how long does the updating take? im stuck on first update out of 11 (firmware) for like 20 minutes allready .. what should i do?
edit : working... dont mind me

You need to talk to the app developer for that one, they need to properly implement Connected Standby for it to work right.
Unless you're talking about the MS music apps, in which case I don't know what your issue is, they work for me in standby.

Music stored on the SSD works fine. Music on the SD does not.

Strange behavior.

So... I had no problems with my(second) idol 3, all was well and dandy. But recently the colours on the screen became more saturated, almost like an amoled display, followed by a significant decrease in performance. Nothing is changed, no root no nothing. Totally stock, except for the launcher. That would be Nova launcher and I used it since the day I got the phone with no problems. What the hell happened and has anyone else experienced this?
Random restart happened today and all my wifi passwords are lost.
in which app the colors are saturated? stock gallery app?
All over the phone. Not just the gallery. Perhaps the gallery is the fault for it?

i asked the gallery 'cause on my idol mostly (but not the only one) the gallery app that distorts color badly... have you tried a CM rom? in my case there is no color distortion on CM at all so the stock rom obviously has the wrong color balance settings
check this
https://www.reddit.com/r/idol3/comments/4g9ld9/distorted_colors_in_stock_gallery_app/
Yeah, I know about the gallery app too. Can't really install a CM rom due to warranty, it's only two monts old. I'm sure that the problem can be solved with a full wipe but that is not the answer I'm looking for.

I doubt that a wipe can solve errors like this. I did it a few times, restored firmware with Mobile Q, color distortions on stock ROM never disappeared. Best experience was with Color Balance app from Play Store. It's just too expensive for my budget.
I have tried wiping cash but to no avail. The performance has slightly improved during the day but has returned back to garbage now. This is so annoying. Is there a way to check the "settings" for this without root? Maybe something in build.prop or such?

without root you can't do any really useful. if you don't want to install cm, check this app (earlier i made a mistake with its name):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.uk.quickdoc.screenbalance&hl=en
If it can stop color distortion, at least you'll know that the phone hardware itself is correct, just the stock rom sucks.
-edit-
just read the new symptoms, at first i'd make a full reinstall with mobile upgrade q, if it doesn't solve anything, i'd go to a cm rom.
The problem seems to have fixed itself. I don't know what happened. All it's buttery smoothnes has returned after an accidental tap on the gallery app. The saturation has returned to normal too. I'll check out the app link for good measure. Thanks for all the help. How does one close a thread?
Guess I spoke too soon. The phone just did something of a restart. The whole boot animation happened but none of my open apps(gmail and chrome) have closed once it booted. Very strange.

that's normal, opened apps don't disappear from 'recent apps' after a reboot on lollipop.
however a reboot just from nowhere isn't normal.

I did not know that. Guess I will have to do the mobile upgrade q procedure. I'll give it a few days before I do that though.
Welp. I've given it some days and the problem has not returned. Also, a fun thing i didn't mention. This replacement idol 3 is not exactly the same as the previous one. For example the camera lenses had a green tint on the first one, but on this one they're blue. And the logo niw sits flush with the surface instead of being pushed more inside.

Build NMJ20D

OTA URL: https://android.googleapis.com/pack.../4a7b7e380ad4ce4dbf998f403d053e52d12b8a42.zip
Changes include:
- Google security patches 2017-10
- Security patch KRACK WPA2 vulnerability
- Improved performance and bug fixes
- Improved touch scrolling
- Fingerprint gesture enabled - swipe fingerprint for notifications
Update size: 74.8 MB
Yep, it's just popped on Twitter. ?
So... My phone does not yet see this OTA as available when I check for system updates (I'm on a Sprint carrier-locked device so it may take longer than you lucky unlocked folks), and I'm at work without my personal laptop right now so I can't push the update to my phone via ADB. Is there a way to force my phone to see the OTA sooner, or am I stuck waiting until I can get home and use ADB?
I just upgraded. Everything good so far.
Awesome! I've been longing for the fingerprint swipe gesture; downloading now!
All good here as well. Scrolling does seem smoother.
Use of the entire screen much better in almost all apps.
This was a good update with a clear improvement for me. I frequently use a crossword puzzle app and on this device I would have a difficult time selecting squares along the right edge of the display. After this update the squares are much easier to highlight. Not perfect but the improvement is noticeable. Between the latest updates and the Google camera app the Essential Phone is rapidly turning into a handheld I enjoy a great deal.
sideloaded, enabled gestures. seems to be running well. Wish Sprint phones would OTA when everyone else does, but as long as i can sideload, i'm happy

Just get a sim card from another carrier! Throw it an and you'll get update. Does not need to be alive sim. The phones are factory unlocked. As soon as it detects a sim from another carrier it checks with essential for the update. With a sprint or Telus sim it checks with the carrier.
So this new update, blocked out the notifcation bar for Google Now Launcher. =/

So far everything good here....
Updated on Sprint via sideload. All seems good, but I didn't really have any problems before this. Fingerprint gesture is pretty cool.
Yeah I'm getting quite a few crashes when I try to open apps. Back button seems.Pretty slow and gets stuck once and a while.
i had my first freeze on the previous build today. while trying to connect my BT headset while opening Pandora. the freezes i was having stopped when i updated. so far with todays build, no issues and ive been on my phone constantly since

Camera app crashing due to gallery issue. No idea, help!

This is really boggling my noodle. Last month I flashed my phone from G930T to G930U. No problems up until Friday when I went to take a picture and found my camera app kept crashing - weird. After much troubleshooting, I decided I've had enough and factory reset the phone. Seemed to be fine, got everything setup, BOOM, problem is back. After painstakingly going through the restore process again slowly, I found that the problem is coming from the camera and Samsung Gallery interaction. If all photos are in the DCIM folder, there is no problem. The moment I download a picture via the internet or Facebook, or I take a screenshot of my phone, since those pictures fall outside of DCIM (into the Pictures, Download, or Screenshot folders), the camera app crashes. It definitely seems like a cache issue with gallery/media storage, but no matter how many times I clear them, once the cache rebuilds, the problem returns. I've always had pictures outside of DCIM without issue and my wife, who has the same phone and I flashed the same G930U image on, has no problems.
Any possible ideas because I am completely at a loss?!

Tried, but it says it conflicts with a version already installed. I can't confirm it is the Gallery app specifically, but it is definitely somehow the camera and gallery are interacting for the cached pictures.

Enable secure startup in lockscreen settings, reboot, install apk again
If it's already enabled, disable it and reboot, the exploit just requires the switch to be toggled and phone rebooted, then package conflicts don't occur

That was sneakily awesome. Installing it that way worked, but unfortunately did not fix my problem.
I went to my last resort and reflashed the G930U files through Odin, and then updated it via the OTA before I did any additional setup, and that seemed to fix the issue. I have absolutely no idea what was wrong with it.

Screen goes black, buttons don't respond, can get calls from other phones to me

Hi all, I have been facing a really weird problem for the past few weeks. Sometimes all of a sudden, my phone screen completely turns black, and the buttons (as well as the alert slider) stop responding. There is no indication whatsoever that it is NOT switched off. However when I try calling it from another phone, ring can be heard as if my phone is working fine. I don't understand where the problem lies. Any suggestions are welcome.
I am rooted with Magisk 19.3, Riru-EdXposed 0.4.5.1 Sandhook, Riru-Core v19.5.
Edit: Android Pie. OOS 9.5.10.GM21AA
I had this problem recently when accessing certain apks. Reflashing the firmware sorted it for me.

Thanks I will try doing that.
Same problem here when opening quite a few apps. Issue didn't start until I updated to Android 10 (and rooted), on a converted T-Mobile variant. Wonder if that is the source of our problem. I'm sorely tempted to use the MSM tool and go back on TMO's Android 9 (and pray for a official update to 10). Unless someone can find a solution to this, rebooting the phone every time I want to open certain apps is a real pain.

It definitely is a A10 issue as I too have started to have this issue when opening games and ram extensive apps. A workaround is to open the game or app in split screen mode and once the app has started you can switch back to fullscreen mode or start the app from recents. That has worked for me 100% of the time. The 10.0.1 update seemed to make it worse because you have to reboot the phone to escape the black screen were as at first you could use gestures to escape the app.

Good idea using split screen, I'll have to start doing that for the time being. I moved over to Open Beta 3 and the issue is still there and worst as with 10.0.1. Hopefully OnePlus can nail this bug soon. It's turning a otherwise amazing phone into a headache.
I have the same problem. Running 10.0 rooted. For me, this has only happened when opening Youtube Vanced. One clever solution is to enable "Quickly turn on camera" and doublepress power if this happens. This launches camera and returns the screen to normal.

Experiencing this too, it does seem to be related to certain .apks, how bizarre is that? Really don't want to re-flash as I am encrypted... Can you dirty-flash with an encrypted system and not loose any data?

I reflashed through TWRP and all data was fine. I'm encrypted too.
But it goes without saying, make sure you do a backup before flashing anything
