Root Available? - Sony Xperia XZ Premium Questions & Answers

I have read some things that root is available, and others saying its not.
As of Oct. 3rd, 2017, can you root the Xperia XZ Premium?
I want to get this device but only if I can root it. Thank you to anyone that can help.

I don't think there are root yet..

There's been root available since day one.

Why would you want to root it if with the current method you'll lose all the DMR keys?

what exactly are the DRM keys? What will it affect If you lose them/

I live in Japan and have the same model. As you said its the Xperia Z3 for Japan and unfortunately it can't be unlocked and is therefore unrootable at present so there are no roms that can be loaded on it. The likelihood of finding some way to unlock it and root it are very very slim.

Awesome, Buidoihiep! Many thanks for that. :good:
Still a little fearful to try it. Also came across this. If you have a moment have a look. Would like to hear what you think.

Really would like to root the SOL26 but still have doubts (DRM Key worries...etc.).
Again, big thanks!
I think the first link you provided is the same way in Here
and the 2nd one is how to unlock sol26 with NSCK code.
the 2nd link and the 1st one is total different.
for evidencing, just look at attachement. Hope this to encourage you

Thanks for the encouragement. I was pretty sure the second link was an unlock key for a Docomo-brand SOL26 so was hesitant to use that key.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think we have the same model and carrier (AU-KDDI?) :highfive:
So, you're recommending that first link root method? If I'm hearing that guy correctly he's rooting without unlocking the bootloader which sounds good to me.
Apparently I can keep my DRM keys and everything else intact by rooting that way. I'm not really interested in trying out new roms or anything (did enough of that when
I still had my HTC Desire HD ) so it seems like the best way to go. I'd be more than grateful for any more advice you can give about rooting our model and again huge
thanks for all your help. If you're ever in Kyoto I'll buy you a beer!

Yes, I've got SOL26 too
Sure, you can root without unlock bootloader (I wonder how to unlock it because that's impossible with AU-KDDI or carrier model when unlock bootloader status allow = No)
Because you do not unlock bootloader, so no harm to your DRM key.
You must follow as the guide to root because you cannot root directly with AU-KDDI firmware.
By the way, I'm not in Kyoto but in Ho Chi Minh

[Q] How to root Sony Xperia D6653 OS 4.4.4 on build 23.0.1.A.1.49?

I have searched and I cannot find a root method for the Sony Xperia Z3 (D6653) I have which is running Android OS 4.4.4 and the firmware version is 23.0.1.A.1.49 - can this specific Z3 be rooted? If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.
Many thanks.

Flash an insecure kernel from the development section
look for advanced stock kernel....
If you have unlocked then it is SOOOOOOo easy to root....
EDIT
Say goodbye to your DRM keys though, if you unlock before rooting you will never see them again. You may want to look in the cross device development section to see the thread about restoring DRM functionality.

Should be, they're are others in the development section as well
Just make sure you read the requirements to make sure your phone and firmware are supported

Rooting Xperia Z3 (6.0.1) w/ Locked Bootloader?

Hello, xda!
I have a Sony Xperia Z3 D6603 which has a locked bootloader and I can't unlock it. It has a newest Android (6.0.1) Marshmallow update, build 23.5.A.1.291. I really wanted to install a Custom ROM, but because I can't, I have thought of Xposed Framework. But I can't find any way to root the phone and install the recovery.
So, is there any way to root this phone?
Thank you in advance
P.S. I would appreciate if those steps can be done in Linux

Hi!
Unfortunatly, I never managed to root the phone because it broke before I even tried!
But why you can't transfer photos? Maybe I can help with that.

Should I root my Honor 8?

Hi guys
I need some advice. I would love to root my phone and customize it the way I want but I still have more than a year of warranty.
I also have read about the limited support for Honor 8. Is it worth it? Should I do it or not?
Thanks
It's your decision. If you want to root then root it, no matter what. If you doubt about it and you don't need it then leave it stock.
IMHO I don't think H8 doesn't need root. It's amazing in stock.

We all have different opinions on this. But for me, the need to root is heaviest among the reasons not too.
If you want to MOD your honor 8 then, it's worth it
I would like to use apps that need root and modify my phone. I'm not interested in a different rom at the moment. So, do you guys recommend rooting my phone or not? I know that it is my choice but I want some advice.
I still have warranty if that matters a lot. Are there some pros and cons for rooting my honor 8? I mean especially for the honor 8. I hope you understand what I mean.
Thanks

If you mean being rooted with SuperSU, you gotta flash your stock boot.img first before flashing Magisk.

I had this phone the past 9 months.I do belive that root is not the best idea for this phone. There is not anything that lugs the phone the UI is perfect and the phone responds very good at every single task.So I think it is not necessary. If you want customization and personalisation you could try it but the past year I could not found a lot of roms or apps that could make me root the phone.
It is up to you...

UPDATE: They stopped doing that with Android 9. How much worse is the Camera after Bootloader Unlock?

UPDATE: Turns out they stopped doing that with Android 9 Devices (according to XDA) so this can be closed now)
I've heard that after a Bootloader Unlock the Camera Firmware is changed so the Camera is worse. Is this true and how much worse is it from a locked bootloader? Let's say locked is 100% Would unlock be 75%, 80%?
Thanks
Also, could this difference be mitigated by GCAM for example?

Camera will be fine and Gcam won't improve anything. Current Gcam app has a long way to go before it's level with the stock app

I heard that you could save the DRM Keys for the device. If this is possible with these more recent devices could you provide a Guide that would work Thanks

Hello to the participants of this thread,
I don't know if Mackay53 is right saying that it isn't possible for years to save DRM keys. I ordered a Sony Xperia 5 II with the intention to root it and searching the internet I found this article:
Amazing Temp Root for MediaTek ARMv8 [2020-08-24] (wrong link!!! Correct one see right below)May be it works and I'll give it a try when my phone arrives. It lets you at least backup your TA partition, but I don't know if the TA POC patch will work on the firmware to mount the backup on a rooted device...

That's for phones with MediaTek chips so it's not going to work and not even worth trying.
Sony also make it extremely difficult to get the keys.
If it was possible to gain temp root we'd know all about it.
AAAAAAAAH!
Mackay53 you are right. Must have been fingertrouble, combined with a "read and understand" malfunction. I ment this link:
temp root exploit for sony XPERIA 1 and XPERIA 5 with android 10 firmware including temporal magisk setup from the exploit
The author talks about Sony Xperia 5 with Android 10, but may be it will work on a Sony Xperia 5 II with Android 10 too.
I'm sorry for posting an obviously wrong link...
