I just thought this was worth sharing.
I own an MT4G. In my year of having it I have gone through 6 replacements.
None with the SO Type 2 Panel.
Tonight (actually 10 minutes ago) I just got back from buying my wife an MT4G.
It has a cracked digitizer but otherwise works just fine.
The touch screen is still responsive in every corner and every side.
Even where it's cracked. I got this phone for 30 bucks. 30....
My wife now has a MT4G with a superior screen. SO Type 2.
FML!
P.S. She won't switch with me even though she doesn't see the difference.
She just knows that I want it, she has it, I don't have it and that's the way she likes it.

Lol dude that's funny.
Just buy a new digitizer to replace that broken one. Then fix your wife's phone.
Then do the magical switcharoo. She won't tell the difference, lol.

There's a thread under "General" that shows you how to find out.
A rooted way and an unrooted way.
Search "bad display" in the "General" forum.
Are you rooted or unrooted?

All you gotta do is turn off the phone (make sure fastboot is off)
then boot in to bootloader.
Hold volume down and press the power button. Hold it until you see the bootloader screen.
Go down to system info and look for something along the lines of SH-C2 or SO-C2.
SO is superior, SH is not.
Good luck.

Awesome. But wait til you see the difference then you'll REALLY know.
I swear even with a broken digitizer on my wife's phone my phone can't even compare.
My lady would do the same exact thing.

i have the SH version, honestly i cant see anything wrong with my screen. iv compared it to other android phones and it is brighter and more defined, (evo g2, varius others) so idk maybe i need to really compare the two, btw my lady would trade with me
Yea I have the good screen and one of my family members got the phone, and I immediately noticed that they had got the bad screen. I was like...... . Seriously the difference is great

Saturation? Color? Contrast?
30 bucks... can it be any cheaper?
The screen is just seriously washed out in comparison. I don't want to use any terms incorrectly, so im just gonna keep it at that.

I went through several bad screens before getting a good one, and wife still has the bad one. I was checking out my friend's Sensation and immediately noticed that he has the bad screen. Apparently HTC is still shipping both screens even on their latest models. Will definitely be cautious if I go with another HTC phone after this.
I'm expecting my 2nd MT to arrive tomorrow.
If I haven't seen the bad screen, would I even know something is off? Like if my first phone had a bad screen and the new one does to, would I even guess that there's a problem?
I mean do you have to see a good and bad one side by side to know the difference?
Or is it like watching HDTV for years then trying to watch a show on an old 1920's black and white?
Just got back from the AT&T store and they gave me a brand new phone! They didn't want to at first since I am a week past my 30 day return window but I schmoozed them for a solid hour and after saying no to me 10 times I was finally able to convince them to give me a new one. I am happy to report that this one does not have a clicky screen

All I know is this phone has some serious quality control issues. It may be because of my ocd but I'm on my 5th one. First one had a big yellow spot on the screen. Second one was getting really hot. Third one got really hot also plus I wanted to try a grey one lol. Fourth one I went back to white. It ran really cool but it had light bleed. This current one has the best looking screen and no light bleed but it runs hot and has the worst battery life out of all of them. I should have just suck with the fourth one. My biggest annoyance is the heat and crappy battery life. How can they not all be consistent in the battery life department? They have the same batteries. 5 hours with 58 mins screen on time is really unacceptable in my eyes when I was getting a day and 5 hours with 3 and a half hours screen on time consistently with the other phones. Something just doesn't want me to be happy and have everything go right. There's always gotta be something wrong. These companies need to learn to make better products.

We are early adopters and this is what we sometimes need to go through. I am completely understanding of that and frankly, I don't care if I have to exchange my phone 10 times (I'm sure Kurt at my local AT&T store does!), as long as I end up with a perfect one then I'm happy. Our other option is to wait 6 months until they get all the kinks worked out and then buy one. I'd much rather have it now and deal with the issues then have to wait until those issues get worked out before I get to play with it.
I have fallen in love with my iPad mini
And I only use my gs3 on the go.
Don't get me wrong I love android and argued that android was best since day 1 when I got my g1
Until I got this mini
I will only get the iPhone if the screen is bigger eg: 4.6 or higher
Maybe.....
The bigger question is do you like flashing? Also how many apps have you bought?
Just make sure you jailbreak it. I used to develop themes for my ipod and ipad but I moved on to android when apple stops support for your devices...
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Did you mean the iPhone 5? I say sure, go for it. I might get one for my upgrade. I've had 4 Android phones already this GS3 being my fourth. I want to try something more simple and really see how consistent the fluidity sticks with the iPhone. If it's really as good as it's promoted to be. I may hang on to my GS3 or sell it. Hadn't made up my mind yet. By the time my upgrade is here, I'll be looking at the GS4 or iPhone 5s.

You can always try it for a couple weeks then go running back to android in a couple of weeks (like I did). Those phones are so boring, especially if you're the flashing, tweaking, theming, modding, needs high performance type.

I have the iphone 5 and its smooth and all that, but you can get bored of it really easily especially if you're coming from android where you can make your phone look like a different one every day. So yeah, its smooth and fast, but the OS gets really boring.
My number one reason not to switch is the app integration. You cant share anything you want like you can in android. Like in the mail app, you cant attach an APK file like you can in android. (That was just an example, there's a lot more stuff you cant do)
BTW, asking this on an Android forum is kinda stupid.

Smoothness is great, but when there is nothing to do but scroll through your endless home screens cluttered up with apps... Where is the fun in that?
The answer is no, especially if you want freedom to flash new ROMs whenever you want.
Oh and I agree with everyone else - you scamming Verizon is not cool. You've essentially stolen hundreds of dollars from them. Bragging about thievery online? Yeah, you sound 15.

My phone had really bad screen burn in, asked for a replacement under warranty.
The replacement apparently had a motherboard defect, eventually not recognizing the battery and all sorts of other crazy behavior.
The second replacement has a dent in the glass (not crack), and under that dent are some black ghost images that look like crack lines. As if someone cracked their screen and Verizon never replaced the digitizer/Amoled panel, just the glass.
I'm worried this will get worse, and then Verizon will claim I did it and that it voided the warranty. So I'll send this one back too.
Let's see how many replacements I can go through before one works how I want it to. :good:
I got into the habit of taking my sealed refurbished phones with me to my bored Verizon corporate store and opening them with the manager. We both got some laughs at the utter crap they send out. I never wanted blamed for their mess.

You can of course ask to recive a new and not a refurbished one. I had an issue with the charge port not accepting the cords so I called they sent a refurbished with the same issue so I called again and asked for a new phone not a refurbished as I already had issues, and they sent me a brand new one. It never hurts to ask.

I agree, at this point I would pretty much demand a new phone after you've already received 2 bad refurbs.
I got some horrible replacements sent to me when I had a Galaxy Nexus...I think 5 altogether (I then demanded to be sent an s3, and they actually agreed). I even had a replacement s3 sent to me that lasted for all of two hours before the backlight died. I never got a new phone sent to even though I asked multiple times... But you never know until you ask.

I wish I would have done this! I received the third replacement today, and it's "STA" date on the back is 1/11/2014.
Unfortunately it has 4.3 already installed on it. So only possibly root for me.
I thought it would be new because of that date, but I did a screen test, and it still isn't a new phone, there are dark artifacts. Testing everything out right now to make sure its ok.
after the third swap theyll give you a diffrent phone if you ask
So do you think that any replacement phone that is sent out from now on will already have 4.3 stock on it? Yikes!

G3 is cool, but it won't have the same feel, definitely not as smooth as the m8.
Pros:
Better screen
Less bezel
Lighter
Better rear camera
Cons:
Worse battery life
Phone gets too hot faster
Stupid rear buttons
Worse front facing camera
Not as fast as sense
That's at least what I've been reading, I wouldn't switch. And who knows if it'll have an unlocked bootloader.
I agree!!
If the G3 were to get rooted and bootloader unlocked, I might consider it. Otherwise, no chance.

That "better" screen on the G3 is actually the cause of most of the cons you listed. It kills the battery and causes the phone to lag from the extra work it has to do to render it. The general consensus seems to be that the screen is actually the biggest fault in the phone, and a good 1080p screen could have made it perfect.

That was something I was aware of, power hungry screen = hot phone, less battery. Definitely not needed, but the resolution is a huge selling point for them. They wouldn't be able to get as many sales with the same quality screen as the S5 or M8. Samsung would wipe them clear off the map.

Sorry to go off topic. But I seen that Sony has unlockable bootloaders rt thru there own site...I wonder if VZW has enough pull with Sony like HTC to force sony to not allow VZW Sony devices to be unlocked ...as I seen that new Sony pad coming to VZW an I must say Sony ui is very nice an real fast an smooth. Does anyone know?
Also because you can Now as of yesterday use the edge to get pads from VZW..

You do realize Samsung Android devices account for the majority of all Android devices? Which is unfortunate, because they suck, but saying "You suck if you got beat by Samsung" is pretty inane.
A buddy just got the T-Mobile LG3 and we ran some benchmarks. Granted, this phone is 100% stock and I'm running GPE (not OC'd) on the M8 but he scored 22100 in Quad and I scored 24500. He scored 32000 in Antu and I scored 34000.
The LG3 is just a little too big for my taste. I have never owned an LG phone but my M7 was my first HTC. Was all Samsung before that. I'm sticking with my M8 until the M9 comes out and has S-Off.

Walk into a bs phone company pre paid. The shelves r full of low end Samsung devices that r a joke for only 50bucks or less. Makes sense they have majority off andriod devices.

Some people can't afford high end smart phones

Yeah well, Samsung sells millions and millions of those cheap, crappy phones per year.
Clearly there is a market for them.

A lot of the phones you can buy from the pre-paid carriers are cheap...what's your point? Not everyone can shell out $300 for a brand new phone. My cousin just bought a S3 because that's all he could afford (free being what he could afford).

G3 is cool, but it won't have the same feel, definitely not as smooth as the m8.
Pros:
Better screen
Less bezel
Lighter
Better rear camera
Cons:
Worse battery life
Phone gets too hot faster
Stupid rear buttons
Worse front facing camera
Not as fast as sense
That's at least what I've been reading, I wouldn't switch. And who knows if it'll have an unlocked bootloader.

Exactly, also the enhanced screen has not been taken advantage of.
I've had the m8 since launch and while I think its the smoothest phone ever made and is unlocked the wasted realestate just kills me. I can't wait to get the g3 on Thursday

My point is if u flood the market with tons of devices for free of course your going to have the most out there active in the market..as most people can't afford a high end phone an the government isn't buying them one of those.

I'm pretty sure he was talking about how people bash Samsung for making "cheap low cost" phones when there's a market for them as not everyone has the resources to shell out hundreds of dollars on a phone.
I applaud Samsung for reaching out to all types of consumers.
