Curious what everyone thinks about the new LG G3 and whether or not you'd trade your M8 in for it if you were within the 14 Day Return Window.

G3 is cool, but it won't have the same feel, definitely not as smooth as the m8.
Pros:
Better screen
Less bezel
Lighter
Better rear camera
Cons:
Worse battery life
Phone gets too hot faster
Stupid rear buttons
Worse front facing camera
Not as fast as sense
That's at least what I've been reading, I wouldn't switch. And who knows if it'll have an unlocked bootloader.
I agree!!
If the G3 were to get rooted and bootloader unlocked, I might consider it. Otherwise, no chance.

That "better" screen on the G3 is actually the cause of most of the cons you listed. It kills the battery and causes the phone to lag from the extra work it has to do to render it. The general consensus seems to be that the screen is actually the biggest fault in the phone, and a good 1080p screen could have made it perfect.

That was something I was aware of, power hungry screen = hot phone, less battery. Definitely not needed, but the resolution is a huge selling point for them. They wouldn't be able to get as many sales with the same quality screen as the S5 or M8. Samsung would wipe them clear off the map.

But I seen that Sony has unlockable bootloaders rt thru there own site...I wonder if VZW has enough pull with Sony like HTC to force sony to not allow VZW Sony devices to be unlocked ...as I seen that new Sony pad coming to VZW an I must say Sony ui is very nice an real fast an smooth. Does anyone know?
Also because you can Now as of yesterday use the edge to get pads from VZW..

You do realize Samsung Android devices account for the majority of all Android devices? Which is unfortunate, because they suck, but saying "You suck if you got beat by Samsung" is pretty inane.
A buddy just got the T-Mobile LG3 and we ran some benchmarks. Granted, this phone is 100% stock and I'm running GPE (not OC'd) on the M8 but he scored 22100 in Quad and I scored 24500. He scored 32000 in Antu and I scored 34000.
The LG3 is just a little too big for my taste. I have never owned an LG phone but my M7 was my first HTC. Was all Samsung before that. I'm sticking with my M8 until the M9 comes out and has S-Off.

A lot of the phones you can buy from the pre-paid carriers are cheap...what's your point? Not everyone can shell out $300 for a brand new phone. My cousin just bought a S3 because that's all he could afford (free being what he could afford).

Samsung might look good on paper, but their quality really does suck and those fancy screens dont last long in regards to battery life.
The only advantage to samsung is the screen technology. Outside of that they sacrifice usabilty and quality for external asthetics.

Their quality sucks in regards to what? Their mobile processors that have been leading the pack since the Hummingbird? Or their NAND memory that every other manufacture wants for their device? Oh wait. I know. Its their cameras eveb though Engadget just said the GSII has a better camera than any other phone in history besides the N95.
The SGSII actually has longer battery life than any Android device so far. I can also tell you that eveb though the phones are light, it does not mean their not durable. My Vibrant lasted through several drops and over 50 house fires. In those fires it got wet most of the time. My Nexus One however only survived 4 fires before it broke due to water damage. The phone would still turn on but the touch screen wouldn't work and I could see some water under the display. In the end, Samsung uses plastic for a reason. Cell signal along with WiFi signal more readily pass through it than it does through metals.

That's my main beef with the iPhone...who wants their phone to look the exact same 5 years from now?? I just find it boring as hell. And WAY too thick.
You know what's funny about Apple though, they fight tooth and nail to get Android off the shelves and say their software is the key point of their pitch but they neglect to mention all of Googles' features they use on a regular basis for one when you search for anything on an apple device it uses Google, can't blame them there right.
Now their saying their new 3d maps are going to beat Googles Maps but G Maps has been in beta for a few years now, they know what works and what doesn't but if Apple wants to give it a go then it should be interesting.
I'll stick with this device, there will always be something wrong somewhere with anything some one has, nothing is perfect otherwise there wouldn't be competitors.

That's the way it's headed anyway...Google is about to blow the provider model out of the water with their next gen Nexus devices (which should even put your mighty gen1 Nexus to shame), working directly with more manufacturers and selling directly to consumers. And I can't wait...I think they'll be doing all us Android users a big favor, longterm.
Apple really good in steal ideal and make it better than the original one. if you look at notification bar on iphone, it's really nice and i think it does better job than our android notification. I also like their notification badge/alert/ pop up for message/mail/FB... Still i can get popup app from play store but i want some thing that come from the operating system itself... You know I bought this phone on the premise that even if loaded with bloat the Snapdragon processor in here should be enough to handle it and still provide seamless screen transitions, etc.
Sadly it seems that this phone is laggy. At times when screen transitions it will "stutter" or otherwise "hesitate" causing a poor user experience.
So I did tweak my ROM up some, disabled most of the bloat and the experience is now what I would have expected from it stock.
I also understand that I am coming from my own tweaked ROMS on other high end devices but I just expected more from this.
What do you all think? What phone did you come from?

Exactly, its the same as an S3 with 1/2 the processing power.
I have Note II and S3 ROMS that are much smoother... I guess its going to be hard to judge until I can tear it apart and do some tweaking to the OS more. It sjust my Note II, stocked seemed faster.
I dont know yet. Just trying to gather opinions. I am sure Samsung will smooth it up. They made huge strides with the Note II.

Hey Scrosler, loved your One X roms! As far as the lag goes, it does definitely seem that my S3 was faster. It's made it hell deciding on whether I should keep my S4 or HTC One, since I was going to originally take the One back. Aside from the stuff you probably did already, try disabling the lock screen animation as well as disabling the home button from accessing S Voice (double click the Home button, then go to settings to disable). These are the two things that seemed to have helped the most with lag issues. Still not perfect by any means, but it's much improved. Now if I could just do something about the damn keyboard lag..

My wife is not experiencing any of this prolonged lag. Consider us lucky. Ours is pretty solid. The first time I did notice lag was while unlocking the phone with the "majestic twinkle" effect. For a stock experience we are satisfied. If Scot does decide to develop for this phone I am confident it will be CleanRommed.
Comparing it to my Note 2 running cleanROM is totally unfair though

Yeah, but you turned off the cool parts which I like. I always set my transistions to 50%, even in my ROMS but I wont turn them off. The twinkle affect should cause stutter after its done. I see lag just backing out of the Play Store to the desktop it will sometimes stutter. Not just the occasional lock screen lag in which I know you are referring to.

Yes, I totally agree and I think its Samsung lack of experience with Snapdragon on 4.2.2.
I have Nexus 10 which is not as powerful as this phone but its a Sammy processor and there is ZERO lag with dual cores at 1.4 or is it 1.5 GHZ. And thats at nearly 4x the pixels that this has.
I was just expecting this thing to scream when I first got it...
Disable and android go hand and hand since the g1. My only problem with the os is the hardware needed to make this a smooth experince , a lot of work needs to be done with android. Its a great platform but nothing is perfect I guess
But hey android is getting better and better.

I definitely want to get a Nexus 5 (battery and camera issues aside), but all the reported defects with either the speakers, scratches on the screen, loose buttons, etc are giving me pause. I'm thinking about waiting a month or so until the inventory at the stores gets another batch from LG.
Is anyone else waiting to get the phone until new inventory is replaces with new batches/revisions of the inventory?
How long do you think I should wait before the next batches come out? How long are you waiting?
Just get it. I've had zero issues with the phone.

No defects, no light bleed, tight power button, tight volume button.
Perfect.

no mine is fine. 32gb white everything is tight and beautiful display none of the "bleeding" or whatever shananagins that is allegedly going on.
Echo most of the statements here about good quality device. Still can't believe the value for the price. I've used mostly Sony devices for the past seven years. They launch at one and a half the cost and update the software at least six months after it's released.

Mine works perfectly. But sadly I'm returning it. At&t (straight talk) had better signal yet there is no LTE. I'll be sticking with Verizon. Signal is not as strong but I get LTE in 90% of places.

This phone is flawless. I think most of the "problems" are just people exaggerating or people whose desires are insatiable
That defect thread is poison...
Don't worry about it. That's just a handful of people with issues, it doesn't mean every N5 is defective. If you want one now, get one now. If it has some horrible issue, exchange it for another one. Simple as that.
I don't want to ruin your party but I have 7 dead pixels on my screen and believe me I'm not exaggerating I guess it just comes down to each person experience with their units, I would recommend based on mine to wait.

There were 4 or so revisions of the Nexus 4. It's never wrong to let manufacturers work out the kinks on the first sacrificial lambs.
I'm not really worried about the "defects", I'm waiting more for the dev scene to get cookin... I know I'm gonna wanna flash something as soon as I get the phone. I'm also on Sprint and things seem to be pretty hit or miss with them right now, so I'm giving them time to get it sorted (hopefully).
Just don't wait too long, or you might find yourself trying to decide between the n5 and galaxy s5...

I'm definitely waiting.
Rushed into getting the N4 in first batch last year and regretted that decision.

Same here, but how much should we wait is the question? A month or two or even more?
This could be tracked with the serial numbers of the devices I guess, considering posting a thread about this in a couple of days.
Hopefully they update the inventory in Germany soon.

Yet my Rev 1 is just fine, and always has been.
Another vote for just getting it. 16gb white, ordered within 5 minutes of release and everything works great.

How fast is the speed on straight talk?
Even on HSPA+ I get 16 down with the nexus 5, which is more than enough for anything I personally do on a phone. Including streaming movies.

So because you didn't have any issues that means the thousands of other phones out there never had any? Yes that's intelligent logic.

Many in these forums go out of their way to look for issues (rattling buttons - give me a break - they float in the casing over the actual electrical contacts).
Lots of products get revved throughout their life cycle. It doesn't mean all previous revs were defective.
You can wait if you want to. Hell, I'll probably wait for the nexus 6 as I just don't see this one as that much of an upgrade, and a newer, better one is less than a year away.
I got my N5 day after release day and it is flawless, not a single problem.

Is dumb as the statement may sound, those who feel like waiting should, those who don't, shouldn't.
I'll explain why.
Those who can quickly get pissed of that their phone doesn't have "nipples" (N4 reversion), or the smallest most insignificant change, should wait.
For most people, that never an issue, and they should buy soon, but for me, I was childishly willing to pay $30, to trade with a newer reversion... Luckily I didn't get the opportunity to

Not once has it even crossed my mind, love the phone. Development isn't as popular as the One, but its better than it was last year. Great phone IMO

In the beginning I had some reservations, but with all phones there are downsides and problems. The phone is quite solid, though my micro usb port has come loose and doesn't work with my computer but still charges fine. This is because I have been quite rough with my cables though, so my fault. I used to be a Samsung fan, but have come to love my HTC phone. If you do decide to get this phone, maybe avoid the white/silver model as there are a few complaints about the plastics on this model. Maybe the issue has been resolved but you don't know if you get old stock from your supplier.

+1 Very true, get the black model or any besides the white/silver one because there are some hairline crack problem. I have at&t so there were no choices between colors so I had to get the white/silver one and I had a replacement for the hairline cracks. Then after like 5 months of the replacement phone that I'm using right now has 2 hairline cracks. If I spot 1 more or before the 1 year warranty ends, I will ask for a replacement.
Means except manufacturer defects you don't have any probs. What a contrast. Same question was asked in xperia z1 compact forum and people had lots of complaints. Well in the end it proves specs don't matter, user experience does.

i just got mine a few months ago. I was an iphone guy since the first one... tried to go android with the galaxy s4, but ended up taking it back because it was too inconvienent using it with one hand. Considering I was running an alpha of cm11, which just finally went to beta, I'd say it's a great phone, considering I'm not even running stable hardware. battery life is at least on par with my iphone (as long as i'm careful with what's running). So for me.. it's the best adroid fit for myself i've found.

Yeah its a hell of a beautiful smartphone. In India only HTC one dual sim is there which is thicker than the original and does not have unibody. So that makes the mini one of the most beautiful smart phones and the most beautiful in HTC's portfolio.

With Jelly Bean, I wasn't impressed with the battery life. Now that I have KitKat, it seems to be far more acceptable. It's still not as good as the old One S (man, that phone was ahead of its time)!
The only other regret is the camera. It works beautifully in low light situations (like dimly lit restaurants), but during all other occasions, the photos have such low resolution that they only look good while viewed on the phone. Viewing them on a computer screen reveals a lack of sharpness and detail in the photos.
Other than that, this phone is sexy and meets all my daily performance needs.
It's a sexy phone, but the battery is crap. Hopefully this will get better with CM 11.
BTW, the CM11 that is being worked on is for the AT&T version, will that work with international phones? I'm in sweden and not on at&t.
So. There are probably no performance issues. And do you have any probs in running high end apps.

Thanks. So as far as I can see nothing is wrong about this device. Um how's the camera. And are there any bugs in the software like in Sony. Disappointed with z1c looks beautiful has top class specs but the software is so buggy that probably it will be a nightmare using it.

The HTC one mini is, hands down, the best phone I ever owned. By far.
love this phone, especially the size, compared to my former N4 and N5.
My only complaint: no factory image availaible, as on the nexus.
HTC service in Austria told me, when flashing an RUU, they MUST replace the Motherboard as well!,
So no way back to stock for me, as in the nandroid there is Stock recovery, as far as i know.

I just got this phone and there are 3 cracks already on it from 4 days of light use.
Anyone use a case to prevent or hide the cracks? If so, which one?
FYI, I just got this case in the mail today : http://www.ebay.com/itm/331168743655
It's super thin, fits like a glove and makes the phone feel a lot better (more grippy). It kept slipping out of my hand caseless.
I'm not sure how long it will last but I'm going to order a few more anyway.
