[How To] Mi A1: Bootloader Unlocking Tutorial - Android General

Dear All,
Unlocking Method
Our Xiaomi Mi A1 is locked and needs to be unlocked before flashing anything.
STEPS:
1. Power off your handset.
2. Press and hold volume down button and connect the handset to the pc/laptop.
3. Handset will now enter into fastboot mode.
4. Open command prompt on your pc/laptop and run the following command:
fastboot oem unlock
5. Your phone will be unlocked.
*** Make a backup of all your data as it might get erased during the process***
*** Warning***
After you unlock the device, it will become less secure. Your personal data might be leaked or lost.
Please think twice before flashing your phone and do it at your own risk.

Wonderful share.. thank you! Though I already have my bootloader unlocked, what benefit can I get from it?

You didn't bother to include on How to tick USB debugging before entering Fastboot mode and adb unlocking. Some beginners won't able succeed with it.

That's already common knowledge tho since you are using ADB to push the unlock bootloader command. They shouldn't unlock their bootloader if they do not know things as simple as that, tbh.

Did your internal storage got formatted when you unlocked your bootloader?

So we dont need to ask for unlock code from Xiaomi?
I dont have the device yet. Soon...

Nope.
Unlock is supported officially.

I have MI A2 Lite and it's with Android one. Can I unlock it with some tool and root it without affecting the warranty. And does Xiaomi key for unlock is needed only for MIUI interface.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Xoom Broken

Hello, my xoom is stuck on the "M" DualCore screen and wont go on. Before this after a factory restore, my xoom ahd errors and wont start up the setupwizard, so i unrooted and locked it again. now i cant install a new rom ebcause usb debugging is off and i cant use sdk to unlock/root it for a new rom. what can i do now? thank you for the help in advance.
Can you unlock it again? If you can, I'd unlock it, load the stock images, then see if it'll boot. Don't forget to clear the cache before you try to boot it up. If you can't unlock it you should try to SBF.

Managed to get stuck in bootloop, help needed

I'm trying to unlock my Xperia L's bootloader. I used Flashtool, went through the process, entered the unlock code and clicked 'Unlock'... and it's stuck with the boot animation cycling. One thing I noticed in flash tool was this error message after I selected unlock:
20/038/2014 12:38:36 - ERROR - Error saving unlock code : /Volumes/FlashTool/FlashTool.app/Contents/MacOS/custom/mydevices/ZH8001BBFK/ulcode.txt (No such file or directory)
Any advice? I've tried relocking using Flashtool but it's still stuck.

Use flashtool to unlock the bootloader. It's simple and very easy. All you need to do is paste the unlock code you receive from Sony. If you are still not unlocked, i would recommend to backup your TA partition first in case you want to regain your DRM keys.
Best of luck
Hit thanks if it helped

Black Shark CHINA (SKR-A0) - Unlock Bootloader

Hi everybody!
After the precious advice of user ndt192, I managed to unlock my SKR-A0 which, until this day, seemed un-unlockable.
THIS PROCEDURE WILL WIPE YOUR PHONE MEMORY SO REMEMBER TO BACKUP EVERYTHING
TL;DR
In developer options, OEM Unlocking must be ticked (if present), then I just issued a fastboot oem unlock while in fastboot mode.
I'm on the latest OTA (29-12-18, v. G66X1812291CN00MPX).
Full Tutorial
Enable developer options by tapping 7+ times on Settings -> About Phone -> Build Number
Enable USB Debugging and OEM Unlocking (if present) in Developer Options (Settings -> Other Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Developer Options)
Open a terminal and issue the command adb devices
On the phone, allow the access from your computer on the dialog that will be shown
In terminal adb reboot bootloader
Wait for the phone to reboot in bootloader mode
STOP AND THINK - DID YOU BACKUP EVERYTHING?
Issue the command fastboot oem unlock and wait for the OKAY in the terminal window
Reboot your phone with fastboot reboot
Now, you will be informed that because of the unlocking your phone memory is "corrupted" (aka not decryptable anymore) so the phone needs to be wiped. Agree and wait.
Hopefully, your bootloader will be unlocked now. You can check that by returning to fastboot mode and checking that the Status is Unlocked.
If you want TWRP/root, check out this thread.
This procedure didn't seem to work until a few months ago so I don't know exactly if this procedure works only on newest Joy UI versions or not. Try it out (at your own risk).
IMPORTANT - if you can't unlock with these steps, please post here with the version of Joy UI installed and the message shown after the fastboot oem unlock command

PGP signing TWRP doesn't work, private key needed?

Hello!
I am trying to sign TWRP (Redmi Note 8 ginkgo) using GPG on Windows 10. I have imported the TWRP public key, however, when I select the file for signing, it does not show up in the drop-down menu in Kleopatra. From my research, this seems to be due to it being a public key and missing the private key part (correct me if this is incorrect please).
I have no idea how to acquire such a key that would allow me to sign TWRP correctly. Could anyone please help me with this?
Thank you!
Well from my understanding are you trying to lock the bootloader with TWRP installed?

No, the bootloader is still locked and I don't have TWRP installed.
I want to use the command "fastboot boot twrp.img" in adb, however, it doesn't work with a locked bootloader. I get the error "FAILED (remote: Fastboot boot command is not available in locked device)".
I read somewhere that it might work if TWRP was signed without having to unlock the bootloader.
Well does your phone have some problems and cannot unlock bootloader?
The signing key is something only accessible by people working for Xiaomi, unfortunately.

1. Fastboot and ADB are 2 totally different softwares: don't confuse them.
2. You only can sucessfully apply Fastboot commands if phone's bootloader is unlocked. Hence unlock bootloader as 1st thing of all things:
Code:
adb devices
adb reboot fastboot
fastboot reboot fastboot
fastboot flashing unlock

Unfortunately, my phone no longer accepts the correct pattern to unlock it. I have been trying to find a solution for this for weeks, if only so I can back up my data before wiping it, but none of the options I found seem to work in my situation. From what I know, unlocking bootloader would delete everything, which is the exact thing I'm trying to avoid, so it is unfortunately not an option. :/

Thank you for the correction. I only started getting into this recently and I mostly saw them bundled together so I assumed Fastboot was part of ADB.

Question xiaomi 13 software problem please help

The xiaomi 13 was purchased, the Chinese version, the fastboot was unlocked, the global version ROM was installed with the bootloader closed, and now the device is stuck in the bootloader screen and does not boot on the recovery. I tried unlocking the bootloader again, but it asks for developer permission and I cannot access the device. Please help me
Try to get to the recovery or fastboot. If not possible, you could need to follow a EDL Method to flash the entire motherblard after the hard brick

I'm pretty sure that if you try to relock bootloader on a ROM that's not the original, it'll brick your phone. Sounds like it did just that.
Are you able to get the phone to fastboot mode? Does your PC recognize it, and can you successfully send commands to it?

Flashing in EDL mode on this type of device requires a Xiaomi account with special authorization.

It's been like this for a few years now, which makes the phone with a locked bootloader unusable in case of theft or loss.
