Here it is. Get a unlock code and it works on Rogers network, with 3G.
Just remember to set APN first.
So it is confirmed that Verizon is not messing up the 850/1900 bands outside US.
Canadian Droid lovers, you are safe.
Btw, this phone seems to have some serious reception issues. It only shows one signal bar in my house, while other phones would get full. Hope moto could fix this via a software update.

Thanks for confirming this for us. We hear in the US are still having those problems with AT&T and T-Mobile. Hopefully we will find a workaround soon.
Thanks so much. Thats what I've been searching for. BTW, where did you get the phone? Can you just go to Verizon store and buy it outright without signing any contract, not even the month by month plan?
Got the phone from a friend in the US. What he did was activate a month to month plan, and cancel it right away.
where did you get your unlock code? can you recommend a site?

Got it on ebay. Just search for "Dorid 2 Global Unlock" and there you go.
I am following yous steps! I already asked a friend of mine to get me one. Thanks for confirming it is good on Rogers. Ebay seller is a bit greedy though - 50 bucks - ouch!

Why would you have to pay for an Unlock Code? Can't you just "ROOT" the phone free?

The unlock code is so you can use non-Verizon (Vodafone) SIMs. Rooting is being able to have full read / write access to the entire phone. Rooting alone will not unlock the radio to use 3rd party SIMs.

Has anyone else noticed reception issues with this phone? I was waiting and waiting and waiting for the Milestone 2 originally and then this one came out and I want it sooooo bad. I need to upgrade from this HTC Magic but I don't want to buy a phone with hardware flaws.
I tried Googling it but all I'm finding is reception problems on the Droid 2 and the Droid X. Not a lot on the D2G but it seems like the entire Droid line has people reporting reception problems.
Is it just the number of bars showing thats a problem or do you also get frequent dropped calls?
I heard from a friend that Android 2.2 includes a new Battery Manager that reduces power to the radio when you're not making or receiving a call and that's probably why the number of bars showing is low when the phone is idle and there probably isn't really a reception problem unless calls are being dropped. Can anyone confirm this?
It's a long drive from where I am in Canada to the nearest Verizon store so I was going to make purchasing it part of a road trip to visit friends in Seattle in a couple weeks if I can get confirmation that the reception problem is not hardware related.
Any confirmations or advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Reception hasn't really been an issue for me. Seems acceptable. Battery life marginal though but I had the same issue with an HTC Desire

The funny thing is, even though the phone is showing only one signal bar, I still have great call quality and 3g speed. Wired.

Thanks guys. That was the news I was hoping to hear.
I was having problems with the 3G in France. I never got more than one bar and that was in middle of Paris
Buy it on prepaid. Its $394 plus $104 of other stuff, total 537.

I just got the Droid 2 Global and have it unlocked on the Rogers network. I can't get the 3g to work. What APN settings are you using or how did you get it to work? I have input the apn settings that are being posted around the web but can't get 3g to work. Edge works however. Thanks for your help.

APN settings are same for 3G and EDGE. Are you sure you are not forcing EDGE somewhere in settings? Or maybe battery manager?
I figured out the problem. I had the phone in "gsm only" mode. When I switched back to"Global" mode in network settings I instantly got 3g and even "H". Thanks for the help anyway
Just curious as to what others are doing to deal with this issue (discussed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47276465 ).
I just bought my N5 two days ago and, while I have an iPhone 5s to fall back on, it would be really nice to be able to use the phone that I just bought. I was thinking of setting up a Tasker profile or something to switch radios based on some factor or another. Maybe let it drop to 1xRTT when on WIFI (when I'm home or at work) and use LTE elsewhere (I like to stream music in my car with my phone - 1xRTT is no good for that ). I really just need a way to see when someone has attempted to call, so that I can call back. Oh well. Someone will figure something out.
So how about you? What are you doing to cope?
Using a different phone?
"Screw everyone who calls me, I need DATA" ?
"Sprint can suck it, I'm switching to [other carrier] because this is the phone I want." ?
Something else?
Hate to double post, but I thought people might like to know.
For whatever reason today I felt compelled to switch back to my N5 from my iPhone 5s. To do so on Sprint (apparently) requires a factory reset.
After factory resetting and reactivating my Nexus 5, it magically works the way it should. LTE when I need data, but I still get phone calls and texts like normal.
Unless Sprint literally fixed the problem overnight, I have no idea what happened.
So if you're having the tri-band LTE issue feel free to give this a shot. I'm located in Central PA, for what it's worth.

it could have been an error in activation possibly causing the problem. a simple prl and profile update may have fixed the issue for you initially. if you didnt try that, that is.
No I'm in Hagerstown and lte just started working last night for me too. Now my problem is making phone calls. When I'm on Lte I can't make phone calls. I cant receive them just fine but wjen I try to call out it says call sent and immediately says call ended. Can u make calls on Lte?

So once in a while I won't receive some texts. Example: I was texting my GF last nite perfectly fine, but then this morning she texted me at 8am and I never got the text (not even right now). Also last nite my friend called me 3 times and I did not receive not ONE of those calls! He also texted me once and I did not get the text either. What could be the issue here, I'm very confused and starting to get annoyed because that's kind of a big issue/deal to not be receiving some texts/calls.
Does this sound like a faulty phone, or stupid Sprint? TIA!!

I think it might be a sprint problem as i have that same problem from time to time. Same thing happened to my s3 when i had it and sometimes i have the same problem on my S5. My friend called me last night to tell me he was outside my house and i didn't get the call or any missed call notification yet. definitely a Sprint problem.

It's been worse lately I'm sure trying to get HD voice and some other upgrades working are prolly putting their network in disarray.
Try switching to 3G only mode. If that fixes it, it's Sprint.
Also if you have google voice enable on your phone, disable it for like a day as that is causing problems too that I know.

Anyone knows if it will be possible to make or take calls on the none 3g version when tethered to a phone?
I think the first generation gear s was able to do that but I can't find any information on the gear s2.
All the reviews mention that the 3g version is able to make calls when NOT tethered to a phone, no mention about the none 3g version when it is tethered to a phone.

You can make the call but the watch doesn't have a speaker so you won't be able to actually talk on it. You'll have to either pick up your phone or use a Bluetooth headset.

Is this verified or an assumption ? Do you currently own the watch?
The standard bluetooth models, regular and Classic, cannot make phone calls. There is no speaker on them. If you want to make calls from the watch you need to pick up the 3g model that comes out next month. That one has a speaker.
This is based on spec sheets. This is based on tutorial videos. And this is based on personal ownership and experience with an S2 Classic.

Yes, sounds like android wear is doing it today.
I wish they would do it like Apple is doing it with their watch. You can take and make calls regardless of the watch having 3g connectivity.
Sent from my SM-T715 using Tapatalk
If I see someone making a call on their watch and obviously the call will be on speaker you'll get a slap on the hand. If you're going to have a conversation don't be that guy and have it on speaker.
I rarely talk on the phone in public and when I do, it's NEVER on speaker. That's just obnoxious. I think it would be good for when I'm at the house and my phone is in another room and I can't get to it in time. I could answer on the speaker until grabbing my phone.
Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
the Gear S2 cannot make or receive calls. if you get a call you will get a notification and if you slide to answer it tells you the call is on your phone. when you try to make a call it says that its dialing on your phone.
this is the deal breaker for me, Im returning it this Friday. the Gear 2 is much more functional while the Gear S2 just looks better.

It doesn't matter on the phone as the sport/classic doesn't have a speaker, only microphone so it won't be able to handle an actual call. It can initiate one and you can have the actual conversation on your handset

Don't want/care about sim card support, not until carriers allow sim card cloning so your watch and phone have the same phone number. At this point, I want BT, WiFi, and voice calling.

You can make and receive calls with the T-Mobile S2. Not that I plan on doing that but nice feature to have. It also has 4G.
I contacted Essential support and asked if the phone would support WiFi calling. They responded yes but to contact the carrier to make sure. I am currently on Verizon so I contacted Verizon and they said yes it did support WiFi calling. I was a bit skeptical but I had the agent verify the phone model number. Hopefully this is accurate. I finalized my pre-order right after.
I would take this for what its worth until we have the device in our hands and can make sure. I just thought I would share.

Thank you for contacting the Verizon Wireless Chat Team regarding your device. How can we help you today?
You
I am thinking of buying the new Essential phone. I was wondering if it will support WiFi-Calling on Verizon
You

Verizon
That is a great question I will be glad to look into that for you today
You
It says it will support Verizon. I would like to know if it supports the WiFi Calling on Verizon. My signal is very poor at my house and work.
Verizon
Understood let me double check on the WiFi calling feature
You
thank you
Verizon
My pleasure
Verizon
I do see here that WiFi calling is supported so you will perfectly fine to utilize that feature with Verizon
You
WiFi Calling is supported on the Essential Phone? What else does it say about the Essential phone?
Verizon
I can only view tech reports so I do see that the WiFi calling is supported any other questions I would need them to be specif so that I can search
You
I am just trying to make sure we are talking about the same device.
You
I see the model listed as: Essential PH-1
You
is that the same thing you have?
Verizon
While following the link this is the newest unlocked android the device screen is pretty big yes this is the PH-1
You
ok.. Sounds good.. Thanks for your help.
Verizon
No problem at all, was there anything else that I could assist you with today?

Nope. All set.. Have a good one.

I don't know how anyone could have an accurate spec sheet comparison for a phone that has not been officially announced yet. It would just be speculation and leaks, which are often wrong.
That aside, I think if one is inclined to compare this phone to the Pixel 2 (as I am), why not just wait? It will be announced soon and then you can make an actual comparison between the two phones. Also hopefully by then the other colors will be available (since I don't like the glossy black or white colors).
Unless you desparately need a new phone now, I don't see the harm in waiting.
Thanks for sharing, I'm on Verizon as well, and I just ordered my essential ph-1. Hope that rep is correct and not just blowing smoke, but at least now I can be optimistic!
So the word on the street from the first folks that got their phone is no WiFi calling for Verizon. If that is the case my phone will be going back.

Hopefully it gets certified soon. Only feature that doesn't work for me on Verizon is WiFi calling. I actually get a bar of LTE in my house so it is ok for now. My ribs iPhone gets no service just like my s8 and pixel. I'm actually shocked I get any service, nobody does where I live.
Visual voicemail won't work either.

I cannot get wifi calling or voicemail (either proper voicemail notification or visual voicemail to work) with Verizon. Everything else seems to work fine.
Does anyone know which default network we should use for Verizon to maximize signal and battery? I am in a fringe area so small differences in reception is a big deal.
Thanks in advance.
