MX Player has stopped linking/playing HDHomeRun TV tuner stream... - MX Player

I suspect an MX Player update has broken my setup...
SiliconDust HDHomeRun DUAL HDHR3-US digital antenna TV tuner; firmware was 20161117, now 20170815
Google Android 6.0.1 Nexus 2013 HD tablet (ARMv7 Neon)
John Anderson's HDHomeRunTV Android app v1.72 (static for years... just works)
MX Player Android app; was 1.8.x, now 1.9.8 (ARMv7 Neon)
Has worked fine for years except when an MX Player update kicks out the custom codec for AC3 audio. Hopefully this won't be an issue going forward once I get it working with the now built-in AC3 codec.
After HDHomeRunTV app invoked MX Player 1.8.x, the player comes up STOPPED with message, 'can not load link'... presumably meaning the link to the TV tuner stream(?). The displayed link in the upper left corner of the player screen is: udp://@192.168.1.137:5454 (the @ seems odd).
Updated to MX Player 1.9.7 and .8... now player comes up with usual loading icon but then STOPPED and no message. It still cannot load the TV tuner stream.
I am able to use the tuner with SiliconDust's Windows player (video only on my 2003 Win7 system; plus their s/w crashes an ATI GPU dll) and with their Android app HDHomeRun (audio only; plus their s/w stops working; they have acknowledged a video playback defect in their app on Nexus 7 and are working on it). Point being... I feel my tuner and HDHomeRunTV app are still functioning, and that MX Player has a new playback/linking defect on this setup.
Contact me if you need more feedback.

Probably it's an issue with their app.
Can you collect a bug report from MX Player (From Help menu) immediately after reproducing the issue?

I have emailed the bug report files to the gmail addressed provided within MX Player. Is it possible to upload files to the forum?
SiliconDust did update their app and it now plays the tuner stream, but the video quality is not nearly as good as with MX Player when its working. At least I know my hardware is working.

Looks like you are playing in H/W+ decoder. H/W+ decoder may not be compatible with your devuce.
Try the video in H/W decoder.
It should work since you can play the same video in stock player.

Nexus Player MPEG2 Hardware Decoding on Stock Rom

So, MX Player appears to have hardware decoding, but you have to side load the Intel codecs.
I am right now watching live sports through my HRHomerun Prime using this method.
1) Install MX Player from the market MX Player Free On Google Play
2) Side Load the Intel Hardware Codec from MX Player Side Load
3) Install the AC3 audio Codec from
XDA MX Player AC3 Audio Codec
To Watch HDHomerun Prime channels with the method play the network stream

MX player stopped working on Nexus 9

Since the last update MX player is no longer working properly on my Nexus 9 tablet.
Strangely enough the option of using HW+ decoding has completely disappeared from the settings/decoder menu.
I use MX player mainly to play HD streams from my satellite receivers via DVBLink TV server.
SD channels still play with SW decoding.
HD/FHD channels so far have always played with HW+ decoding but that option has now disappeared, and these channels will not play properly with SW or HW decoding.
I'm using licenced MX player PRO.
Is it possible to go back to the previous version of MX player?
Is there a versions history somewhere that lets you download?
Would you check if HW+ is sitll not working on 1.8.6?

Sure.
Just updated to 1.8.6 and HW+ is now present again on Nexus 9. :good:
Playback with HW+ seems to work fine too.

MX Player 1.8.21 for x86 not recognizing external codec

Hi all,
Having a problem with MX player on an x86 tablet -- I upgraded from 1.7.40 to 1.8.21, and it was a mistake.
MX player 1.8.21 does not recognize the external x86 custom codec I downloaded from xda-developers.com (keeps telling me it wants the 1.8.6 x86 codec), nor does it seem satisfied with the x86 codec downloaded from the play store (settings -> decoder tells me that a custom codec is not in use). Playback is no longer smooth, it is jerky and unwatachable.
I tried to go back to 1.7.40 by downloading the .apk from the MX player website archives, but that doesn't work -- when I run it, it says I need a codec and redirects me to the play store, where the only option is the x86 codec for 1.8.21 which is not recognized by MX player 1.7.40. Even though I have the original x86 codec for 1.7.40, there is no way to get to the settings menu to direct it to the external codec.
So, what do I do to get back to a working MX player? Can I get 1.8.21 to recognize the x86 codec? Or how do I get back to 1.7.40?
Thanks!

I can answer most of my own questions -- it turns out the "mx_x86.zip" from the download section is version 1.9.0 (I didn't notice the "Version information" said 1.9.0, I saw the "currently 1.8.6.1 is named 1.8.6 because MX player expects 1.8.6" above that). I found the correct download in the Google drive link, old version.
However, even with the x86 codec, 1.8.21 still plays video files terribly -- jerky and stuttering.
I found a version of 1.7.40 on apkmirror that didn't automatically direct me to the play store, and it recognized my original 1.7.32.rev1 x86 driver. Now, the playback is smooth.
Also, another thing I've noticed is that subtitle rendering is MUCH worse under 1.8.21 than 1.7.40 -- karoke effects cause the subtitles to be "static" unless "enable SSA acceleration" is checked, but then it looks like the subtitles are rendered to the original video resolution and then scaled with the video to the current window size. This is OK for 720p scaled to 1080p (I have a 1920 x 1200 display tablet), but for DVD resolution (480p) it causes the subtitles to be fuzzy.

Ok, looking at bug reporting thread now. Do you also want info on the 1.7.40 install that works?
I'd also have to provide the video file -- it's a 1.27GB file, any recommendations on how to send it to you?

Mx player pro fire tv problem

Hi all,
My problem is when I go to watch something through mx player pro on my fire tv box it plays for around 10 seconds the the blue circle comes on and it changes the codec to hw if it was on hw+ to begin with and it does the same the other way round.
If I leave it to play after this happens then it crashes around the 30 minute mark?
I have mx player pro installed on my fire stick and it works fine.
Are there any known issues when using a fire tv box with mx player or is it just something I need to change in the settings?
Any help greatly appreciated
Tia

MX Player Pro is not available for the fire stick devices. From where you have purchased? If you are using a patched version, the issue could have caused by the improper patching.
HW decoder just uses the Android MediaPlayer API implemented on the device. When It fails with an error, it will try the next decoder (i.e HW+). HW+ Decoder basically uses the same system decoder but on the MX Player's media framework. Since both fails, either it could be an issue with the decoders implemented on the device or it could be an issue with the content. Kindly collect a bug report and share with us. It will help us to investigate further.
Thanks for that info
Do you have a Bluestacks? If not then you must install it first in order for the apps will run faster and better.
