[Bug Report] crash with mkv - MX Player

Hi, i'm getting crashes with mx player pro, while the default player plays the file ok.
Here's the dump. It occurs after one second (i have time to see a picture).
Most of the files play ok, i seem to have an issue with some formats.
The integrated player says video/x-matroska
1280x720
471 Mo
5.1 ch
reader is a galaxy note2, up to date.

Looks like you are playing in H/W+ decoder. H/W+ decoder may not be compatible with your devuce.
Try the video in H/W decoder.
It should work since you can play the same video in stock player.

Can Galaxy Tab Plus play videos with subtitles on TV?

Can it do it with the HDMI adapter and a video player like mvideoplayer ?
It is possible if you have the player in Software (S/W) Decoder mode, for both .avi files with external .srt files and .mkv files with the subs muxed in. Subtitles will not display if you are in Hardware (H/W) Decoder mode. It should be the same with MX Player Pro.
Hope that helps!
It should handle the 700MB avi in Software Decoder mode ?
It should. I tried with a 1.5 gb avi file in software and it worked
you can, just rename the subtitle as the same as the video file ex: theraidredemption.mkv --> theraidredemption.srt
tested with stock video player app and dice player app (both in H/W decoder mode)

How did you get the stock video app to play subtitles? It does not have any options for it.
You just have to rename the .srt the same as the video file, video.mkv and video.srt, when you play the .mkv it will auto load the subtitle, you don't need to change a single setting, it works on my tablet too using the stock video player.
Ah, good to know. Shame the stock player doesn't handle subs within mkv files.

Any video players with DTS support? Dice no longer working

Pretty damn annoying - DICE can no longer play most of my videos for the last couple months. Ever since I upgraded to ICS (tried 4 different roms, no change). It used to play MKV's with hardware accelleration and decode the audio in software. No problem when you're overclocked to 1.7
Installed the new nvidia codecs, still no change. Any ideas?
You might want to try the new version of dice player there are 2 apps one is labeled (old) now so maybe try the new one and download the tegra 2 plugin

Unfortunately, already tried that. Also tried MX Player, MX Player Pro and Rockplayer.

which firmware are you running?
MX Player removed DTS playback a couple of months ago due to licensing issues.
Maybe if you found a old release of the app you can play your videos again

Thanks for the work around. It works but a bit buggy. Each time you want to switch movies you have to uncheck and recheck the external codec. Also movies do not forward in dice player properly.
BSplayer still decodes DTS audio.

I can't get the same smooth frame rates as I can with Dice Player, still the best one in my opinion (for 1080p mkvs)
You can try...

You can try with the VLC beta on the Playstore. As far as I remember, it has DTS support and it's smooth (at least on my Galaxy S3).
I'm having trouble with the libffmpeg.so plug in.
The DTS files would cause the player to kick back out when libffmpeg.so plugin was enabled. Without it enabled, it'd just say that the video file can't be played.
I had to download Diceplayer 2.0.6 with the Tegra Plug-in in order to get the DTS movies to work.
Is anyone able to get libffmpeg.so working on their Transformer TF101 ?
I'm back on my 2 year old Galaxy S for a few months while I wait on a Galaxy Note II. I wanted to point out that while this thread offers a solution, I was still not able to find the best solution for a slower phone.
Dice Player (latest). Obviously doesn't work.
Dice Player with external plugin, is forced to do software decoding. Very choppy on a Galaxy S.
(stock) Video Player. Sound doesn't work.
BS Player (software decode), works, but very slow framerate.
BS Player (hardware decode), buggy. Screen blanks out every second or so. Too annoying to watch a video.
VLC Player (software) too choppy
VLC Player (hardware) video and sound is good (won't load subtitles)
I felt like Mario looking for Princess Toadstool.
So I've been on this quest. Finally found a working solution. Dice Player 1.8.2. Old version. Works perfectly without any tweaks.

[Q] Can't play 720p MKVs on my Tab 2

Hey.
I've been searching these forums for a solution for my problem, but I can't seem to find any, so here goes!
I just got my Galaxy Tag 2 10.1 WiFi (P-5110) and I love it. But for some reason, I can't seem to use hardware decoding on any video player I download, whatsoever. I've tried MX Player, VPlayer, MoBo Player and even DicePlayer (which worked on my Galaxy S), but none seem to work (it just switches to S/W Decoding on all of the mentioned players). I have no clue what's causing it, but it's a file encoded with H.264 and 2.0 FLAC Audio. Could this be the problem?
Help would be appreciated!

I have a 1920x1080 24p Top Gun MKV (was an m2ts to start with -- which wouldn't play right even with VLC/MX since it swapped to SW aswell), but have you tried stock video player? That works fine for me.
In MXPlayer I have to choose H/W+ for my mkv to work with it, have you tried that while running the video? (Top right)

No, it doesn't seem to work. I just get an error that I can't play the video with "H/W+ decoder".
And yes, I've tried the stock player but it doesn't work as well.
EDIT: VLC Player works just fine, for some reason.
EDIT 2: When using any other video player then the stock one, I always see the notification bar on the bottom. Anyway I can hide it and get "true" fullscreen?

MX player stopped working on Nexus 9

Since the last update MX player is no longer working properly on my Nexus 9 tablet.
Strangely enough the option of using HW+ decoding has completely disappeared from the settings/decoder menu.
I use MX player mainly to play HD streams from my satellite receivers via DVBLink TV server.
SD channels still play with SW decoding.
HD/FHD channels so far have always played with HW+ decoding but that option has now disappeared, and these channels will not play properly with SW or HW decoding.
I'm using licenced MX player PRO.
Is it possible to go back to the previous version of MX player?
Is there a versions history somewhere that lets you download?
Would you check if HW+ is sitll not working on 1.8.6?

Sure.
Just updated to 1.8.6 and HW+ is now present again on Nexus 9. :good:
Playback with HW+ seems to work fine too.

h.264 10-bit video Support

hello,
I might buy the Galaxy S8 Plus ( Snapdragon Model ) soon but need to make sure it can play an h.264 10-bit video using hardware decoding.
name of the video: [1080p][16_REF_L5.1][FLAC_5.1]Suzumiya Haruhi no Shou****su BD OP.mkv
this is a link for the sample video:
https://www.koi-sama.net/files/hi10/
I really appreciate the help, thank you.
I tried them on my Verizon 8+ and get "unsupported video codec" using the default video player.
I have not tried d/l VLC or an alternative to see if that works, it may.
could you please check using mx player h/w+ or h/w
MX Player hw+ doesn't seem to have a problem with any of the sample video decoding, got a complaint about unsupported audio (AC3) on one of the files though.
thank you for your help, I just purchased the phone ( G955U ) and it isn't working on hw+, is there a Rom or kernel you are using?
I'm using bone-stock as provided by Verizon, with all current system updates.
Videos d/l to local SD card and played off that from within MX Player. I noticed some traffic where spawning video playback via file explorer may not work in some cases so I opened the file directly in MX.
The MX Player I used was the free edition, freshly installed.
I have since bought MX Player Pro, and of course it works on my device.
System performance settings are at the default, no tweaking so far (phone is 4 days old).
Good luck, sorry I don't have more help to offer, still new with the device.
thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it.
If you haven't installed their codec pack, get it. I think it will fix your problems: MX Player Codec (ARMv7 NEON)
hello, tried it and didnt work, it does run 4k hevc 10-bit using hw but cant run h.264 10-bit unless I use sw (works well but fast battery drain).
thank you
Runs smooth and without problems or lags with the mx Player pro with the sw decoder. The hw decoder doesn't Work.
i use hw+
along with a custom codec for ac3
Yep custom MX codec canm be found here on XDA forum - use search.
It's up to 1.9.0... Anything older will get an "update codec" message....
I tried but no luck, it works on sw only, what is your phone's model?
mine is G955U Sprint Unlocked. all other codecs work ( even hevc 10-bit 4k ) but h.264 10-bit is only working on sw.
How do you setup the custom codec for AC3 (I recognize I'm being lazy by just asking...but I have a headache...)?
For C0derbear
Put on root directory of phoner or sd card and start MX player. Go to settings, and select "custom codec at bottom of list in decoder settings. Select codec with browser it opens.
That's if it doesn't detect the custom codec and ask to use it.
It will restart to apply codec...
