Saw many post from new users and senior members as well and most of the time there are lot of confusion on the OTA part, especially for the rooted phone. Few says it gets (I am one of them) and few says it doesn’t as rooting capabilities modifies the system boot.img and also we have unlocked bootloader so device wont get the OTAs. I have been using the Huawei/Honor phones for 2 years now and have been getting all the OTAs on rooted phone and confirmed the same many time but still there are lot of confusion and users thinks they wont get OTA on rooted phone.
Just confirming here that you will receive OTAs on rooted phone without any issues. This is 2nd update on my phone since rooted in past 2 months.

Note- I am not using any firmware finder or other things for this as I dont trust on FF as it messed my Honor 5C in February and I given up on it.
Instructions-
If you are rooted but then rolled back to stock recovery, just download the OTA and update.
If you are rooted with TWRP recovery, flash the stock recovery first and then download the OTA to update. (TWRP wont be able to update OTA)

Hi All,
I have an Xperia T with a locked bootloader, I've rooted it using the backup&restore method... a couple of days ago an OTA update became available, but I'm afraid to install it in case it somehow kills root then locks me out of putting it back again.
Any ideas of what this update will do?

... I'm fully aware what a software update is, and does.
My question is, will this remove root (it presumably patches the timing exploit used to gain root too, meaning no I probably cannot root it again after applying this update) and no I cannot unlock the bootloader.
So I was just doing some ROM testing with this old Samsung Tab A (US Variant, Smoky Titanium) and discovered something wild. I don't know if the US variant received the Marshmallow update but here it is anyway, I got a successful flash out of it without a factory reset.

You can flash that with Odin 3.09 to get yourself to Marshmallow on this tablet. Change the system language back to Enlgish (US) and you have Marshmallow. (6.0.1) I am going to look into some root methods and attempt to put ViperMod on here at least. (Dolby Atmos edition)
I did some further testing and noticed better battery life and game performance. I will give KingRoot a shot to see if this version of Marshmallow is rootable. There isn't aworking TWRP for the Marshmallow build, but in Lollipop I disabled KNOX (KNOX WARRANTY VOID 0X1 (4). So I'm not sure if Ashryx' ROM had made the difference in allowing me to flash Marshmallow, but here's living proof:

Would I brick my device if I flashed this on the S-Pen model (SM-P550)?
Also, your link is dead ...

So the title pretty much sums it up. Running an S8+ unfortunately on bootloader 4 and I can't seem to find a working root option. Am I just SOL for now?

Any updates on how to Root S8+ Canadian variant sm-g955w with BRG4 firmware update from August?
I'm on the U variant so I'm not sure this will work for you. Your on snapdragon so it might, you have 2 options:
ROM w/Root & Exposed:
With this you'll be on nougat but it gives you root, but your battery will only charge to 80%, Same as the Partycyborg Rom.
ROM w/SafeStrap & Exposed
With this you'll be on Oreo but you won't have root in the ROM to run root apps, it's basically a stock rom. You will have access to system files though through TWRP to do whatever you want. To access the TWRP though you must use Odin to boot it into SafeStrap and then flash back the regular Bootloader once your done to boot back up
So each has a slight disadvantage...
Both of these are in the Verizon thread by developer @jrkruse and work up to Bootloader 5. Partycyborg is what most people used but only supports up to BLv3.
