S7 - Update OTA not using wifi - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hi guys,
Just looking for advice/knowledge really - Scowered the net/xda but unable to find a clear answer.
I have a number of devices all on MMB29K.G930FXXU1BPKD and when I try to do software updates, it prompts that I need to connect to WIFI, issue is, I don't have wifi nor the option to tether another phone.
Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks for the reply.
The scenario is, I have no wifi, nor any internet connection other than the device.
I don't think its gonna be possible to do the update OTA as its gotta be my carrier thats restricting it.

Where in the world are you that you can't get access to a PC with a net connection for enough time to flash a ROM?
Friend, Library, College, School, everyone knows someone or somewhere with net access and a PC
or at least allow you to download what you need and copy to USB / DVD so you can flash at home on your own PC

[Q] WIFI authentification issue after Flashed CROMI

Hi everyone,
Im new (and noob) to this site.
The first problem i am facing atm is I couldnt get my TF700 to connect to wifi after I tried to root it:
1. I have been using Transformer ADB Tool v13
flashed TWRP 2.5.0.0
2. After that i flashed CROMi-Xenogenesis 4.6.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2223492)
The problem was I couldnt connect to wifi at home but able to connect it elsewhere ( I was able to connect to wifi before I flashed CROMI).
3. So I tried to flash it back to the stock rom (4.2.1), but wifi authentication issue still there.
4. now im on 4.2.1/ build JOP40D.WW_epad-10.6.1.14.4-20130329 (thu my original build is
US_epad-10.6.1.14.4-20130329
PLEASE anyone, HELP!!!

I bet you are using channel 12 or 13 at home. The USA does not allow this channel so Asus restricts it in its US builds. Reflash CROMi-X and choose WW Build to fix or change your router channel to 11 or less.

I did tried to reboot it, but the problem still there.
I just checked one of the forum saying that there is an update on TF700 in US.
Maybe If I could flash it back to the stock rom and update it, the wifi problem will be solved.
any comment on this ?
Cheers

Did I notice that you said your only having this WIFI issue from your router?
Meaning your tablet will connect to other WIFI routers?
IF that is true its most likely your router and not your tablet. However here is what I would do:
1. Get back to root: Pretoriano80 has good one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1833212
2. Install TWRP via GooManager - Its very simple and clean
3. Ensure your current bootloader is supported by the ROM you are attempting to install.
4. Check the MD5 sum of the ROM you pick before you install it. - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1135620 (I know different forum but its the same for anything.)
Hope you have a better go of it this time around. Let us know how it goes. BEST OF LUCK!

"Wifi Error" I'll pay $40 for a working solution!

Hi guys, I'm wondering if anyone can help, as this issue is doing my head in!
I recently got a new Motorola Pro+ but unfortunately it doesn't connect to wifi. It attempts to connect for a few seconds and the comes up with "Error."
I've tried a lot of things to fix this like, removing the sim, removing the sd card, trying the wifi fixer app, reflashing the stock rom but nothing works.
Can anyone help me with this? I'm will to pay $40 (Paypal) to anyone who can provide a working solution.
Phone details:
Motorola Pro+ MB632 (Bought new)
System version: 55.1.1036.MB632.Retail.en.GB
Android 2.3.6
Basband version: 5.5.1Q-110_ELW-TA-36
Kernel version: [email protected] #1
Build number: 5.5.1Q-110_ELW-TA-36
Thanks,
Dan
Dial *#*#526#*#* into your phone's keypad. It will show a message "Driver Loading*Successful*. If this is the message that comes up on the screen, than wifi should work now fine.

Should have posted this in Q&A Forums.
But have you tried switching your Router to G standard and connecting?
Also try to connect your Laptop to the Internet and then tether your connection using softwares like connectifypro etc.

Its a hardware problem then, which means theres no fix other than a trade in. Do you have root? If so, usb tether it with you pc. Should be able to use it then, but you wont be able to use wifi unless its plugged into the usb

Try changing your wifi password authentication type
First keep it to open(remove the password) and see if your phone connects to the wifi
If it connects, then change the password to WEP or WPA type

Hi Have you tried Setting Static IP
To set a static IP, you have to go to Wi-Fi settings and go to menu > settings. Over there, you can specify your static IP address, default gateway, subnet mask and DNS servers, or change the encryption type.

take usb debugging on and from the computer write adb logcat > namehere.txt and upload the logcat somewhere we might be able to help you
and if its brand new and you got warranty you should really consider to go to the service center and let them repair it for free, if it worked when you got it doesn't matter unless you haven't rooted or anything or installed a new rom (which may lead to warranty loose) but if its completely stock and nothing changed you should be good to go for a repair. also if you installed any official rom make sure driver modules for your phone is there sometimes there's been a miss and someone might not added it.

Thanks for that, because the phone is pretty rare in the UK I ordered mine from a Korean seller on eBay. It took like 2 weeks to arrive including $40 delivery. Now to return it will not only cost about $40 again to send back but it will be a hassle, take ages for replacement or refund so I thought I'd rather pay someone here to help me fix it than send it back.
I'm not too good at technical stuff so can you please tell me how to do the logcat thing?
Thanks,
Dan

Well, Putting myself in your place, the first thing I would try is boot into recovery and wipedata/ factory reset wipe cache.
restart and check again.
if even after that It doesn't work
flash firmware through odin.
although I would not be dealing with this problem directly cause I don't know what exactly is causing this. So the easiest part, flash.

Even after completely flashing to default through odin, I would say don't flash anything more. its not the software's fault
There are 2 things now
Your router settings. for this there are many things that could make problems
1. First Check wifi password and be 200 percent sure that you're entering the right password.
2. Check at another place, another wifi. I also had trouble connecting at my friends wifi, it would keep returning with authentication error, but the same device connected to mine router without any error. (I still couldn't confirm why it happened there, I suspect my friend had blocked my device in router settings or gave me the wrong password)
3. Forget network, turn off your device, turn off your router, then turn on your device and your router , open wifi in device enter password again and connect.
4. Make sure bluetooth is off and only wifi is on.
5. Check if your Mac ID is not being blocked by the router (find MAC address in your device settings-wifi-advanced) enter your Router settings >>wifi>>MAC Filter disable the Mac filter.
6. Go into your router and go to advance and under wireless go to wireless card list and click set up access list ...add your device with the mac address.
7. Reset the router.
8. Change the security settings on the router, from WEP to WPA2/WPA or vise versa, change SSID name as well.
can connect through WPA push button?
9. Try changing wifi channel to 5, 6,7,8.
10. there are few app in play store that say they can fix the wifi issues one such app is wifix, try them too.
Even after going through all this it doesn't work, then I feel there is a chance that wifi module is at fault and the part would need to be replaced.
there are whole lot of people on the internet that have faced issues and are facing issues with the wifi be it any device,(same goes for the wife ) Guess it has a mind of it's own too.
Well best of luck.
Ok Thank you very much for your help....
I already went through what u suggest before to post my 1st msg...with no luck.
What i find strange is that i'm not even able to connect to an open network..and
still i believe that it has nothing to do with the hardware....
Auth error on an open network is weird....anyway...
THX
David
I'm facing the same problem ... authentication problem occurred... even on open networks.
flashed stock rom
still problem exists

Android 6.0 Beta problem

I would like to withdraw from the Android beta program and go back to using Lollipop again. However, when I try to use the Galaxy Beta Program app, it gives me a network error and that it can't connect to the server. Sometimes it even says I wouldn't have internet connection even though I'm connected to mobile data.
I have an unrooted SM-G920F device.

So how am I supposed to withdraw and get Lollipop back? Do I just have to flash the firmware? I'm just not currently able to use a computer so it'd be nice to do it wirelessly somehow so I could do it right now.

if you are rooted then i can only suggest using flashfire but this may not flash the relevant Lollipop bootloader etc as they are protected.
Odin may be the only answer tbh
If you just flash the lolipop fw, you will just be prompted to update again as your phone's serial # is associated with the beta program. The galaxy beta program servers has had a lot of disconnections/issues for the purposes of bug reporting - I'd just be patient and try again later.

plese tell us more;
what phone?
do you have a PC at hand?
have you used SP flash tool, the qualcomm equivalent or Odin?
are you familiar with firmware files?
the usual procedure for fixing this is flashing a working system image and wiping cache/dalivk/data or a complete firmware image instead

I think I was right about the drivers (magisk mounts the partitions differently sometimes breaking links) so just reflash the stock ROM, if you don't have that at hand look for it on Hovatek or other firmware providers (I think Samsung provides ROMs themselves)
