I can tell you the three most popular Quark Nougat ROMs and you can decide if they are popular because they are the best or not. If you want Nougat, any of these three ROMS seem to be the most popular and have very high reviews. You can go to those threads and ask questions. All three are compatible with XT1225 Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo, XT1250 U.S. Moto Maxx, and XT1254 Droid Turbo.
[ROM][All Quark][7.x] Resurrection Remix
[ROM][UNOFFICIAL]AOKP 7.x For All Quark
[ROM][Quarks][LOS/CM 14.1 Unofficial][7.1.x][2016-12-30] (hybrid of CM14 and Resurrection Remix)
_______
If you want the complete list of Quark ROMs available here you go:
[ROMs][Quarks][List for Moto Maxx, Moto Turbo and Droid Turbo]
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73459132&postcount=80
We have seven current Nougat ROMs with dev support which are compatible with all the Quark phone series (XT1254, XT1250, XT1225). Those ROMs are spread across two different XDA forums but all compatible with ALL the Quarks.
However, maybe a newer ROM (like Viper, our newest Quark Nougat ROM) is "better", but people are just more comfortagble using their older ROM (RR 7.x, AOKP, unofficial CM14)? Or maybe people stick to those because they are tried and true? That's for you to decide.
As for kernel, ALL the Quark custom ROMs (not based on stock firmware) come with the same default "stock" kernel coded by @bhb27, from the CM/LOS tree. It was started by our previous CM dev @Skrilax_CZ, to go with our "official" CM ROMs. @bhb27 then started releasing an "advanced" version of that kernel, with additional tweaks, governors, TCP algorithmic options, etc.
When @Skrilax_CZ stopped developing for our device, @bhb27 also took on the duties of developing the "stock" CM/LOS kernel, so it would be compatible with Nougat and in the near future even Oreo ROMs. It's the "baseline" kernel" included in every custom ROM (not based on stock firmware). He still actively develops his standalone advanced kernel, which works with any of the custom ROMs and can even be installed on stock firmware.
So, here's my suggestion.
FIRST, install a ROM or two. We have multi-ROM tool for Quark (also developed by @bhb27) so you can easily switch back and forth.
THEN, after you choose a ROM for daily use, at that point you can decide whether to keep the "stock" kernel (coded by @bhb27) which comes with every Quark ROM or use his advanced kernel you have to install manually. The advanced kernel has many more tweaks possible, but it can be confusing if you are also trying to differentiate between ROM features/settings at the same time. Maybe it was a kernel tweak you did that messed something up and it's not the ROM or vice versa... Stick with the ROM of your choice for a few days before deciding between stock kernel or advanced kernel.

any rom 4.4.4?

I'm wanting to do an miui port but couldn't find any 4.4.4 roms for my device (xt1225)
Does anyone got one?
No. Not a 4.4.4 ROM, but possibly a kernel.
The first custom ROM we got was CM12 (5.0.2) which was Lollipop, over a year ago (March 2015, before Motorola gave us Lollipop). The CM dev @Skrilax_CZ wrote the kernel for the CM ROM, and it was based on the Moto 4.4.4 kernel at the time -- even though it was Lollipop ROM.
Then, for CM12.1 (Lollipop 5.1.1), he used the Motorola 5.0.2 kernel sources.
But for that original CM12, the kernel was based on 4.4.4. He adapted it to work on Lollipop. So, not sure it would work with a 4.4.4 ROM. You would have to ask him.
ALL custom ROMs for the Quark in this forum, no matter whether CM-based (CM, Resurrection Remix, Sony Xperia) or AOSP (Mokee, Nexus Experience) use @Skrilax_CZ kernel. You will have to do the same, unless you want to write your own.
There were no 4.4.4 custom ROMs for this phone. Besides stock 4.4.4 factory image, the first custom ROM was CM12 (Lollipop).
Why do you want 4.4.4 custom ROM for this phone? It's not like MIUI is stuck on 4.4.4
I see a MIUI Marshmallow ROM right here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/len...rom-miui-lollipop-5-1-1-lenovo-a6000-t3304261
I see MIUI Lollipop here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/len...rom-miui-lollipop-5-1-1-lenovo-a6000-t3304261
Either Lollipop or Marshmallow MIUI would be your best bet to port, as you would have @Skrilax_CZ Lollipop or Marshmallow kernel to work with.
If you port Miui to whatever version I want try it

which rom do you prefer?

In these day, some roms like cm or aicp based on android 6.0 or 7.0-7.1 don't work. in fact this two roms don't boot. which "working" rom do you prefer?
p.s.: why these don't work?

Most stable Nougat ROM

Can someone please quickly tell me their favourite/most stable Nougat ROMs for Moto G, I've been out of touch from the forums for a bit.

My favorite was [ROM][7.0.0_r19]AOSP+OMS/Substratum for Moto G![14th NOV]. But it has not been updated for quite a while now. My new favorite is [ROM][Falcon][7.1.1_r4][Nougat]Slim7 - UNOFFICIAL. No unwanted bs and super stable.

Vanir or viperOS
did a rehash on all latest builds from respective noughat ROMs. very impressed with;
AOSP based;
pure-nexus very small footprint, has all the essential features
dirty-unicorns has all the features, still small footprint, latest october sec. patches
Lineage based;
i would vote lineageOS best, not bloated (like of old) at all still being actively developed. (vanir from the looks of it is almost identical to lineage)
Viper has again has most features.

After installing AOSP Extended.. I never have to think to cange the rom.... so my best is AOSP extended.

Kernel necessary for upgrade from Stock-ROM to CM?

Hello,
question like in the title, because some years ago, as I rooted/unlocked my SG II (not plus!) and installed CM, I had to flash a kernel or something. I also had Stock-ROM 4.2.2. Don't remember exactly.
Now I want to install a Custom ROM like CM 12.1 (andixlm) or CM 13 (GHsR), which ones are recommended for more functions and better performance.
If I have to flash a kernel, which one are good ones?
Thank you
Any other useful hints very welcome!
A custom kernel isn't necessary to upgrade from stock rom to custom rom. However there are 2 custom kernel Nebula one (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2746991&page=15) and Mosh one (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2615010&page=58). I really like the first, because it has a lot of governors, schedulers and features. Lastly CM13 has more feature of CM12, but it's less stable, so choose what you like.

what is the most basic nougat 7.1 rom?

like aosp but updated cause the one we have has no updates
You did not tell us if you have Osprey or Merlin phone. If you have an Osprey, like me:
I guess the ported stock Nougat ROM will be the most basic. Link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/20.../rom-stock-rom-6-0-1-optimized-t3609991/page1
Check this thread for further ROM suggestions for Osprey:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/help/rom-moto-g-xt1541-osprey-t3658721
Or just search through the Original Android Development forum for all different G3 variants:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/orig-development
Lineage OS is also a great Nougat rom. Almost AOSP, no heavy customization and great stability
If you do go for more customizations AOSP Extended is great
Pure Nexus ROM: very stable (my daily driver and never found any issue), smooth and very simple and light ROM ?
LineageOS or aosp-caf, I’d say
I agree with @nubry Purenexus is my favorite for a close to AOSP rom.
