Xperia Z5 Camera doesnt work after Rooting with Magisk - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Just have a quick question. I rooted my phone now and everything seems to work fine, but now I realized my camera doesnt work at all. If I start the pre-installed Camera-App it crashes after a few seconds of black screen. Same if another App tries to use my camera. Tried it with other Camera Apps from Playstore as well and it doesnt help.
Thats what I did:
Unlocked Bootloader
TWRP
Magisk v14
SafetyNet Fix
Xposed Framework SDK25
Any ideas?

No kernel with DRM emulation used ?
That could be one reason, not sure though ...

Flashing magisk should not break ur camera app
I'm on latest version of stock and it works just fine after flashing Magisk 14.
Try reflashing the firmware
Or flashing the patched kernel
Or clearing your camera app data then flash Xnext Camera (use Google to find it)

Aokp , aosp

Hi guys.
When trying to use these type of ROMS I get one BIG problem. A program that uses BANK ID , when logging in to banks won't work anymore.
I think the file is named STK.apk. if I am not wrong.
On all the Stock (based) Custom Roms this operation work. But in AOKP,AOSP it doesn't. On stock based this program is White Color and after entering PIN code it disappears and log me into the bank.
But on AOKP,AOSP it is black, and it doesn't disappear it just times out after I enter PIN code.
Does anyone know a workaround or what can be the issue ? Someone mentioned that I should switch Kernel to fireopal 3.3 unofficial but that didnt work. I flashed Kernel in TWRP, maybe it should have been flashed in ODIN ?
Caligula. Peace Out
This will likely be due to a SafetyNet issue.
Where you rooted on stock? if yes with magisk or otherwise?
If you're still on aosp you can download this SafetyNet Helper Sample and see if you pass.
If you don't there are a few things you can do to pass it again.

Hi , I did use SuperManRom and BatmanRom, I think they both were rooted yes, and they use Magisk 14 beta there I think.
I will try to flash an Aosp-Aokp Rom again and then try with this App you are posting. Thank you. Now I am on STOCK Samsung since I couldn't get this to work. I used KIES to go back to fabric base.
I will make a backup and then try
UPDATE : I have now flashed Lineage Os 14.1 and I haven't root and Safetynet fails. So first thing I need is root maybe ?

Magisk has the capability to root your phone without triggering SafetyNet but that is (at least it was for me) a pain in the ass to get it working correctly.
Another thing I did with Snapchat (also doesn't work if SafetyNet is triggered) is that I set up the App on a clean stock rom, then backed it up with Titanium Backup and installed it on the rooted/aosp/... ROM. Note: This also works if the SafetyNet check in the app is only executed when you first login.
Thanks for info
I get false on the first CPTID(something) the heaviest of the 2 checks on SAFETYNET the other one I get ok.
After I install Magisk 14.
But I am giving up. Can't really find a 100 % workaround for this.

[SOLVED] SIM cards suddenly empty?

Hey mates,
A weird problem happens to my phone and it is now pretty annoying.
After I switched back from Oreo and restored my nandroid, everything worked just fine until a week (or two) ago... then suddenly I got one (sometimes even two) of my SIM cards.... empty! It just says slot empty. No signal, no nothing! Only thing I can do is restart. But it keeps happening over and over, randomly!
My device is XZ F8332 running Nougat 41.2.A.7.76. Also list something that might have gone wrong:
- unlocked BL
- kernel patched by this tool but I used ta_poc instead of DRMfix.
- TWRP v3.2.1
- Magisk v15
- Systemless xposed v89
- Greenify latest
What I have tried:
- flash kernel
- re-install Magisk
- wipe cache + davik
- (sounds stupid but I tried everything as I googled) turn off -> remove SIM tray -> turn on -> turn off -> insert SIM tray with both SIMs -> turn on
So far no luck.
Any ideas?
Edit: After days testing by selectively removing apps, I strongly believe AdGuard is the culprit! Uninstalling it solves the issue. It's been 5 days now and I haven't encountered any sim lost. Hope it helps.
Edit 2: I was using AdGuard with root (proxy mode) and HTTPS enabled. You can try disabling some features see which one causes the issue. I decided not to use it anymore.

Try using AndroPlus Kernel because it has a DRMfix as well. The DRMfix might be the culprit.
https://kernel.andro.plus/tone2.html the version you need to flash is v31 (Which is the latest I think). But please do go through the requirements before you attempt anything.
Cheers

Thanks for the reply. I however don't think DRMfix is the culprit. Because I simply don't use it. Instead I use ta_poc. One thing is, before I flashed Oreo (to give it a try), it was working flawlessly. When I went back to Nougat, I restored the whole nandroid. So everything should be exactly the same. Well, expect some apps got updated (e.g. Magisk and TWRP)

Camera app stopped taking pictures

Hello guys,
I recently found out my phone doesn't take pictures anymore. The "fotocamera" (the name the default app has on italian settings) app works until I press the "take picture" button and nothing happens. I'm unable to take video too. I also tried Snap Camera and it doesn't work. I tried taking a picture while in watsap and the screen turned green and no picture was saved. I also tried the test camera and with both front and rear camera the picture is green.
I unlocked the phone and rooted it with "XperiFIX". Than I installed Magisk v14.x and kept updating to the latest (v15.2). The phone was working fine and I could take pictures and video with no problem until a couple of weeks ago.
Is there a way to just install the DRM FIX? Do you know how to fix this?
Xperia XZ Premium, G8141, Android 8.0.0, Build 47.1.A.3.254
Thanks for your help
If you look into the installation folder of Xperifix, just get the files from the firmware and flash them in TWRP.

Do I have to uninstall 15.2 before flashing 14.5 or I can directly flash it over 15.2? XperiFix has two oreo folders, "oreo" and "oreo2", can you confirm I need to use the files in the "oreo" folder for 47.1.A.3.254? (the files are probably the same but I prefer asking).
Once flashed 14.5, should I update it or just keep this version?
Thanks to you both
Uninstall root completely, install magisk 14.5.
You can update app for now, but don't update root itself to 15.2 for now. I think it's gonna be fixed in later releases.
Grab it from the latest available rom folder in Xperifix.
No need to flash drmfix or kernel if you already did so.
Hope this helps.

Actually you can just flash it without uninstalling (at least in my experience it works fine).
Also, the latest magisk (15.2) works fine. Just download it from the Magisk forum (also here on XDA).
Good luck!
Reason not to root devices. They become unstable
Hello guys, here I am with some news about my problem.
I downloaded the magisk uninstaller zip and flashed via TWRP, then i installed magisk 14.5. I now am able to take pictures in any app. Problem solved.
Now I have another problem The phone is rebooting unexpectedly two or three times a day, often while watching youtube+3.5+root.apk, a couple of time while in idle. Do you know what I should do to fix this problem now?
Do you also have an idea why my backup always stops at 50% on google and on sd? I'm getting scared of loosing everything and I can't even do a backup!

Hello again, several new updates about my phone situation.
I confirm magisk 15.2 makes my camera unusable. I will wait v15.3 or above before updating to latest version.
I'm now at 14.3 because it's the only one I have found, does anybody have working links to 14.5 and above so I can test them?
I had to reinstall the phone so till now no unexpected reboot.
Thanks again guys!

Zero Camera mod screwed up my camera

Hello,
Today I attempted to make the Zero Camera Mod work. I purchased it a while ago but never got it working on Android Nougat. I figured, now that I have Android Oreo, I might give it a try again.
After a few attempts, it completely screwed up my camera.
The app recommends you to flash the zip it creates in TWRP, so I did just that. However, upon flashing, TWRP gave me a bunch of errors, mostly related to being unable to mount /data.
When I booted into the phone again, the entire camera app was gone, couldnt open it by double tapping the power button either.
I figured, let's try to flash the same zip in Magisk. So I did succesfully flash that zip in Magisk, only upon rebooting, it didn't seem to have applied correctly as everything was at default settings. However, I did get my camera app back so that was a relief.
I then started flashing different zips that the Camera Mod app created, trying to get the mod to work. This however, I should not have done. I now can't open the camera app anymore without the app crashing. When I open the camera app, everything is completely streched out, aswell as it's rotated as if I'm holding my phone horizontally even though I'm holding it vertically. Also none of the UI elements are visible. When I remove the module in Magisk, it's back to not having a camera app at all, same goes for removing the Mod in the Zero Camera Mod app.
Does anyone know what I can do to fix my camera again, WITHOUT having to just reflash the firmware?
PS. I should mention that the camera itself is not screwed up, just the camera app. If I take a photo with, lets say snapchat or whatsapp, it works fine.
Yeasterday I had a similar problem. After modding the camera and rebooting the camera icon completely had completely gone away. I know it's a pain in the ass, but best thing you can do is to flash the firmware back to stock again (or at least flash a custom ROM).
I tried the zero camera mod with stock rom with custom kernel (did not work) and with Renovated Ice rom (worked).
In my experience, I could say the new version of Zero CameraMod doesn't work with custom kernels (I had NK), as I could not even restore the stock camera with the zero camera app. I love zero camera mod (also bought it) but I think we must waitn until the developer could fix compativility issues that we're all reporting.
1. Dirty flash the OS.
or
2. Use one of your TWRP backups, and return to pre-camera mod.
Quick, simple, and effective.

Camera doesn't work...

Hi,
I'm quite new to operating with Android phones, anyway..
I had been running the stock MIUI 10 10.2.2.0 Stable ROM on my Redmi Note 6 Pro. I've decided to try PixelExperience ROM because it runs on Android Pie and I like design of pure Android. So I flashed twrp by MrR00t (it has to support Pie ROMs and it really worked), boot into twrp, canceled decrypting storage, wiped data partition, flashed disable dm-verity and force encryption, flashed pie firmware, rebooted to recovery again and installed latest PixelExperience.
Everything was fine (i mean camera worked) and I've decided to root the phone for changing emoji. I've changed them successfuly. And I wasn't fed enough so I was unhappy that the PIN is not 'entered' automaticaly (I mean after entering 5 or 6 numbers auto "enter" press). This feature provides GravityBox, so I've installed successfully Xposed for my device (not wrong version, I am pretty sure about that) and then wanted to install custom GravityBox for Android Pie (official is not avaiable yet). It needed two other modules installed before ('Magisk Riru Core' and 'Magisk EdXposed Beta'), I've installed them successfully, then I rebooted the phone and installed GravityBox from link given in the thread. Then activated GravityBox module in Xposed and rebooted for activating.
Unfortunately the phone soft-bricked, so I reinstalled PixelExperience and wiped Dalvik/Cache and rebooted to system. Camera stopped working (I mean camera app didn't even display any button, no settings, just black screen).
I have already tried installing stock stable MIUI ROM, beta ROM and camera doesn't work on either of them. Also tried hardware test and it stops working after trying to run camera test. No matter which camera (both front and both main doesn't work). BUT both LED flashes works.
Please, help me, I am out of ideas
btw. I know the issue seems to be physical, BUT it stopped working after flashing something.. Phone also bricked, I think there is some connection.. Thank you all for the time
EDIT: I have found out that it's caused by damaged file "persist" located in dir: /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/persist. I did replace it with persist.img file extracted from fastboot version of latest pie beta ROM MIUI in twrp terminal. That file is probably responsible for system communication with all the sensors, as I read in internet, and Xiaomi devices are blocked to manipulate with it by just flashing ROM in fastboot (this function is called arb = anti rollback).
