[Q] Bad grammar and spelling in recovery - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Brand new all stock S8+, and I just noticed the recovery screen has these misspellings ("Appling", "Selecitevly"). I'm worried this has been tampered with. What's with the "No Support Single SKU..." also? Could you fine folks please check if this is normal? Thank you!

anyone? it takes just 30 secs of your time to check please. if you don't know how to enter recovery mode: power off first then - hold both bixby and volume up buttons and then press power. after vibrate, let go of power button. you'll see the android guy, then wait a few secs and it'll go into recovery. thanks

I have the same thing. I must admit I never read the screen before only now, now that you've mentioned it.

Thank you for checking. 100+ views of my post and no one else cared to check. I don't remember xda being unhelpful like this when I used to be active here in the past.

How do I check it?

Press and hold the power button on your S8 and tap on “Power Off”. The phone will turn off.
Now press the volume up, Bixby and power keys at the same time. Keep them pressed until you see the Samsung boot animation logo.
Release the keys. Wait a few seconds.

Mine has the same thing

Same here

Thank you guys for taking the time. I guess that's on Samsung to fix then. Tho, I'd still like to know what those notes mean.

The only differences with mine is the top row where yours says No support mine says Support and further down where yours says TMB mine says EVR
Everything else is the same.

Ok thanks. I wonder if the "Support" section is carrier related, as I have an unlocked one.

I have no idea sorry.

Unlocked international variant, Exynos CPU.
Looks like the quality assurance guys didn't catch that but then this is not where the usual phone user is prone to go to...

Power button problems

Yep, I've got there too
My power button is acting up. When in the ROM it doesn't work completely. When I take out my battery and put it back in, it powers up by itself. ANy ideas? Will take it to the service this weekend? Any idea if it's just the button that's messed up or something more important?
Also, when on the lockscreen, sometimes, the touch buttons light up by themselves. Only those it seems..

This is a common problem of the Nexus S. Take it to your neareset samsung service center. The temporary solution is to set your volume rocker as the wake-up button, then Nexus Root Toolkit for shutdown/reboot/recovery.

I see. Well, The service told me it's gonna be fine, and now I've gone back to my old Spica. Thank you for the information and help
Service said it's much worse than expected and I have to take it to an official samsung service. Doing that on Saturday. This means I have to put stock on it.. and re-lock the bootloader.

I took it to an official samsung service center near my place while on a custom 4.2.1 rom. They didn't touch the software so i don't think you need to put stock on it, unless you're claiming warranty.

Yea, I'd like to claim warranty. They told me it's a motherboard problem so it should be pretty expensive to repair. I'm wondering if it's possible to relock the bootloader AND flash a stock ROM with a power button that's pressed all the time. Any idea?

[Q] Sticky/Broken power button replacement

Last night I noticed my power button sometimes would not lock my screen on my phone. Even when it would, it would lock and quickly bring the screen back on. Even sometimes occasionally I would press the button once quickly and the power off/reboot menu would appear. This morning I found a tab for my quick settings panel that puts the phone into sleep and have been using it all day. This has been a real pita. Now my phone as I am using it randomly sleeps and then brings up the power menu. Is there any way to replace the power button? I found barely anything on YouTube on this and and not sure if it is an easy or hard fix. For now, is there an app that I can disable my power button so my phone does not make me rage?
-Thanks

You can buy a power button, but replacing it ...you need skill and tool (not recommend for an average user). Try to bang the button on a hard plastic surface like washer/dryer surface. A number of people reported success with this method.(this is real, not a joke),

If you know how to solder you can do it.

I have to test it out first, but I think I can disable the power button, however, it's only a work around, you need to replace the button for a permanent solution. If under warranty, it's the best way to go.

[Q] Is there any true Silent Mode enabling app for Lollipop?

As the title says.
I am tired of finding an app which will bring back the Silent mode in Lollipop, nothing works, including the one which was released earlier today claiming about bringing Silent mode back, SoundHUD, it does not work on my Note 3.
So I am asking this here, in case there is an app and I don't know it.
Again, I have a Galaxy Note 3, so if there's an app which works on a Nexus or those type of devices doesn't mean it will work on mine.
I 2nd this. I want a solution for this as well. App/Script/Hack/Mod.....whatever.

Yeah, I know. It's kinda weird that there's no app or mod for this so far, L is released pretty much for over a month now!
Hit the volume button, then none? It will put the phone in interruption mode and silent. You can even choose when it will go back to sound mode in case you forget to change it back.

Apparently, Samsung agrees with us here! The new Sound/Notification/Interruption features suck ballz. They will be fixed immediately in an incoming update rolling around the world.

First of all that will disable all sorts of notifications, I mean the display won't pop up, there will be no LED and most importantly the Alarm sound will be silent too, LOL.

When I have data turned off, though, there's a constant notification in the top status bar saying that it's off, and some services won't work correctly. The notification doesn't go away unless I turn data back on. And I think I read somewhere that it will go away if you restart the phone.
Edit: nope. I just tried it. Data off, reboot... Notification still there.
