I prefer Chrome (stable) for S8+ in-hand, but Samsung Browser is way, way better for DeX.

whats DeX?
Im using chrome as well - all the passwords etc are somehow synced to the phone. I dont have to do much.
I tried Samsung browser and what i liked was the bar on the buttons = bookmarks. Ease of access but still chose chrome over it.

I got mine at Amazon for less than one-hundred--well worth it! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XR9M1ZP
DeX is basically a docking station for S8/S8+ that turns your phone into a desktop computer. There are some decent reviews of it on YouTube. I use mine on my 4K UHDTV almost every day.

My viewpoint is....
Do you trust Google (overall personal info, browsing, etc)
You have to trust "someone" with this info.
I do, so i try and stick to most of Google apps
(Chrome, Google Assistant etc) where possible.
I prefer Chrome,( alternatively also use Firefox.)
For me, the web browsing History , bookmarking, smart login etc in Chrome suits me.
I can browse/bookmark, on my laptop
and later i can refer back with ease, on my device. (vice versa)
I know other web browsers can also sync, but for me Chrome is so much easier.

Chrome does not have Ad Blocker, no dark theme.
so i use samsung Internet Beta with Ad blocker and dark mode.
The Samsung Internet Browser (even the stock app) can natively use up to 2 ad-block extensions at the same time, no root needed.
These extensions are available just on the Google Play store, for example AdBlockPlus:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.adblockplus.adblockplussbrowser
IMHO today it's not possible to browse the Internet without an ad-block filter... and Google clearly doesn't like it to be available in Chrome...

Adhell is the solution for ads. It blocks them all, even in apps. The best part is when it's running you don't even know it's there.
The top two, are Samsung Internet Beta and Chrome respectively at this moment for me. I find myself using Samsung Internet though, it just feels more fluid to me.

Unfortunately original Adhell has been banned and no longer works, there is currently an Adhell 2 version that however requires you to register with Samsung as a developer to receive a developer license for using Knox, it's a bit complicated to install and to make it work, and moreover Samsung repeatedly tries to block it.

DNS66 No issues with ads on my device.
I use Chrome canary

I registered that developer account when I first got my S8+ and it was very easy. I've tried every Ad blocker there is and AdHell (now Adhell 2)works the best out of all of them.

Chrome Beta for Android is ALWAYS laggy for me and when I stream from Google Play Music it always stutters. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me? PS if your Chrome to Mobile keeps adding duplicates of your Xoom or phone and you can't find out how to remove the duplicates, they're removable through your Cloud Print Beta devices page. I just found that out. Anyway, does anyone know how to stop all of this Chrome lag and stutters?!?

I think you can remove them in Chrome Beta by long-pressing on the name of the device and then click 'remove'. I notice the option is there, but have'nt actually tried it myself.
Oh you mean where you can see all tabs open on the other devices. I meant Chrome To Mobile, like Chrome To Phone but easier to use and built in to Chrome (well, built into Chromium and Chrome Canary anyway).

sorry i misunderstood. thanks for the tip though.
I found this in a US S7 Edge discussion and I was very happy to know that it actually works (brilliantly) in stock devices too! :good:
What's more it dosn't suffer (so far) from the known AdBlock Plus issues with unrooted phones (Internet stops working, apps crash from time to time, bank/eBay apps don't work properly, etc.).
https://block-this.com/
But you're routing through their DNS - which isn't a very privacy-friendly or safe option - you're putting your entire mobile internet activity in their hands...
Just use Netguard and import adaway hosts file. Ive done this since day one with edge and it uses very little battery.
Whoa! No thanks!!!
Surely you have to ask yourself what is in it for them right? Free Ad cleansing and free bandwidth through their DNS? Oh come on, they must be getting something out of it or maybe I have just jumped on the conspiracy bandwagon
You should ping Block It! Dns before dismissing it. Its a dummy DNS that collects no precious data of yours.
Block It! simply supplies ads with a fake DNS and its not a VPN. It works exactly like Adaway but does not require root.

I've just used crystal for the Samsung browser and it's been great at blocking ads with low battery drain and no annoying notification in the bar. Only works on the stock browser though. However the browser itself is very snappy and optimized on the s7e and there's even a slight performance increase to chrome IMO

Tried that, ads still appear in apps. With block this they're completely gone in apps.
Block this is blocking connections to google apps, i would assume due to the heavy ad content in things like the play store.
After testing again it seems that block-this is not blocking google as I previously thought.

I got them all working.
Anyway to everybody wondering what this VPN does here is the answer from the author on Google+:
Since this is not a real VPN, your traffic does not get tunneled through a remote server. All we do is give your phone information about what to do with request to ads/malware/spam using DNS

I was unable to use google now and now on tap with block-this enabled the other day.
I checked again today and all is working fine, maybe google was just having issues.
I will edit my previous post so people do not think that was a block-this issue.
Is Block This free for good? Looks like there is a premium version?
i'm a bit confused now as i've found it on play store... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.savageorgiev.blockthis&hl=en
It just seems too good to be true. Has anyone had any issues with this??
It looks very attractive to use, but it changes your DNS. So, all your internet traffic will pass the DNS servers of block-this. Free of use, to good to be true.
Does anybody has the ip-address of their servers? Where are they located?

Why would you get rid of Samsung Internet?
You can use your fingerprint reader or the Iris Scanner (i think) to log in on websites and so on with it, which is a really nice feature. You can't do that with Google Chrome (correct me if i'm wrong on that).
Big Chrome user here but I honestly prefer the UI and the look of the samsung browser. Would definitely switch over to it if I had all my bookmarks and settings synced as easily as Chrome does.

Few Key differences between chrome and Samsung Browser.
Chrome : can easily sync your bookmarks, history across devices and is very convinient.
Samsung Broswer: History and bookmarks are synced under samsung email ( I really hate this and want to sync eith google) but fingerprint login to websites, ad blockers which works like a charm and video assistant which works grest on many anime sites is a big plus for me.
I use chrome on my work and personal laptops but samsung broswer on mobile.

Hi everyone,
I've noticed that I can no longer play YouTube videos in the background on my s8+ bought unbranded from the UK.
The video details with the play button still shows up on the AOD or lock screen but pressing the buttons or using the headphone buttons don't work anymore.
Has anyone else noticed this on their device and is there a workaround?
Thanks in advance.
I know this will not provide the same reliable interface as the official YouTube app. But I installed Firefox and a few add-ons to give myself the background play function back on a nonrooted phone (s8+ U.S. version G955U).
My add-ons were 1. A YouTube adblocker
2. Background play fix (since Firefox latest version crippled it, taking Alphabet payoffs perhaps?)
3. Desktop mode always on add-on (since the resolution is crippled on Firefox mobile version)
Since I use Firefox as my primary browser I used the app Lucky Patcher to clone the Firefox app so I can use one for YouTube with add-ons exclusively.
I know this is pretty convoluted. But ask me if you have any questions.

Sadly the only workaround is to root your phone.
If you root your phone, you can use our root version of iYTBP and have adblock + background playback + crop to fit feature.

Thanks for the info Laura. I don't think I would be willing to root considering that I would be losing Samsung Pay.
As a workaround I can suggest that if you use chrome browser in desktop mode you can use the same trick as before to play videos at the screen off, this also works with BBC iPlayer via chrome in desktop mode.

sorry for the late reply, i checked and habit browser continues to play youtube videos after screen turned off with these settings.
Goto settings, then Tabs, then Disable (uncheck) :
* Stop hidden tabs
* Stop tabs in the background
if i enable them, the audio stops when I turn off the screen.
hope it works for you, also there is another browser with heaps of great settings like habit browser, called ZuYu browser, it also works with screen off. ZuYu seems more stable.

For non rooted devices what if I was able to uninstall stock youtube via this method:

Just install the app called YouTube Vanced from their website. It will just skip right over the ads like they're not even there. You'll need to install that plus MicroG in order to be able to login.. IF you use and have Google Chrome browser running you need to force stop it and disable it until you're done signing in otherwise the sign in will just sit there and not work.. You can enable it again after it's installed and you're logged in to.. Choose one of the NON ROOT versions and install both YouTube Vanced and MicroG found here. https://www.mediafire.com/folder/773e97cz2ezx1/AddFree_Youtube_BackgroundPlay_Enabled
They released a manager (check their website) so you can check for updates and install the app and requirements easily.
I'm using 14.99 a month lol

When you use either samsung internet or beta ver., in their bucket under app settings they call ad-ons, there is an ad-block app selection called ad-block for YouTube(you'll see it in the drop-down menu), and that's probably the same one the other gentleman already responded to you with?
It's by-far, the best one I've ever test drove, as I'm not a great fan of those!
lol I remember when you tube did not have any adds, then it was short ads every few videos, then it was ads at the beginning and end of video now there are more ads than videos. I would love to strip all the ads out of you tube, but don't want any malware installed on my phone.... lol

My advice would be plain and simple.
Use Samsung Internet Browser.
I know it's not perfect, but for me not bad at all.
I'm sure it's a good alternative.?
I really got so fed up with YouTube ads that i looked for a good straight forward alternative...
(I also did not want to use YouTube Vance etc..)
Saw remarks about Samsung internet browser,
started using it,
Very surprised, it was fast smooth etc.
With Samsung offering , free to install, add ons, to the browser....
AdBlockers and also a free to install, YouTube AdBlocker,
See screenshot.
i must admit i have not seen one advert, when browsing YouTube.
Note
I'm logged into YouTube with my Google account.
So my advice is to use Samsung Internet Browser
to browse YouTube until you get a better option.?
Good luck.

Perfect for me as I do a lot of driving...

Something for you to maybe think about?
I use YouTube Premium to block all ads while still supporting my favorite creators.
Vote for Vanced. The latest version has an option to remove (+) button even. It allows to hide all these distracting tiles, gifs, stories etc, leaving the pure video clips only.
I'm a long time Adguard user, no adds in apps, browser, nowhere
