Question about which processor I have... - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Hey gang,
I purchased this phone on eBay, it was brand new, still sealed in the plastic. My question is, IMEI.info reports this as an Exynos processor. Does this make sense, based on this being a T-Mobile branded phone?
Thanks!

I wouldn't worry about it mate, i'm in the UK and mines Exynos, apparently slightly faster than QUALCOMM.

I’m not worried my friend, was just curious if my bootloader is unlocked ?

Oh right hehe, pass

Yes. You have the International Varient - with EXYNOS Processor - that is the unlocked bootloader - only snapdragon processer varients have locked bootloaders.
Good luck

How to Tell Snapdragon vs Exynos?

Title says it all. Mostly worried about the AT&T variant.
Install samMobile Device info and go to hardware.
Can't install apps as we haven't bought one yet. Any other ways to tell?

Lol anoher way is to plug in headphones and listen to somethinh if sound is very low and not very good it is snapdragon
if sound is ok it is exynos lol
a question though you cannot ask before what variant they are selling?
I think in usa the snapdagon version is sold
the exynos version is international
you can also ask http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s7
If it's a carrier-branded phone in the US (meaning you bought in the AT&T store, for example), then it's a Snapdragon SoC.

Locked Bootloader

Hey
I have the AT&T S7 edge with sanpdragon chipset so I have locked bootloader and can't flash custom recoveries and ROMs, is it possible to swap the chipset with an exynos one ?
You would be replacing the whole mother board. At that point you might as well go out an buy one.

My friend is giving me his s7 edge with exynos chipset he has a broken screen but the phone is still working and in a good condition
Will the exynos chipset work on my phone as I read that the 2 chipsets has exactly the same dimensions

Any SM-N9860 snapdragon user in India?

Is there anyone who is using Note 20 ultra N9860 hong kong variant in India? I have couple of queries before purchasing it.
How are you purchasing it?? Who ships it to India?
Why though? People going through much trouble with importing foreign Snapdragon when exynos is almost as equal. Barely noticeable, if even.

I actually agree with this, and it even appears that the Exynos may have a couple of advantages over the Snapdragon - support for dual-SIM 5G and (supposedly) faster updates. That said, I am importing the Snapdragon HK SM-N9860 because I planned to import a dual-SIM model anyway (we only get single-SIM 128GB as the base model in Canada), and it has the Snapdragon, 256GB and Samsung Pay.
If I were in a country that had the 256GB Exynos dual-SIM, I would not hesitate to get that over importing the Snapdragon model, not least for the warranty coverage and access to Samsung service and support...
I ordered the 256gb, 12gb ram exynos and rooted it. Very happy than sd Canadian ones locked down lol

Where did you order from, @Brava27? I think I might have seen some Exynos on EBay, but as the SD was the same price or cheaper and I had no plans to root, I went for that. Also, are you getting 5G on your Exynos?

No 5G bands in Canada are compatible. LTE is fast enough for me. Maybe next year's model. The only compatible 5G phones were the Canadian models.

I played with exynos here in India for some time and it was getting really hot. Also, many users are reporting about worst battery life on exynos as compared to snapdragon one.
Moreover, exynos model in india is expensive. More than INR90000 but from nevermsp, i will get n9860 at less than INR80000

I am using it since a couple of weeks and I would say that its not so bad. Initially we play with the phone a lot more and also do demanding tasks. Battery life could be better but I get 5.5 hours of SOT time. A quick top up of half hour is more than enough to manage.

If you absolutely need to be able to root it, I'd buy something else. I don't think it is likely that the Snapdragon models will be rooted.

The N986O, HK Snapdragon variant is rootable, I think what you mean in the bootloader can't be unlocked on the U.S models

Ah, thanks. That said, I feel like rooting your phone meant more a few years back. When CyanogenMod was around and even Magisk (?) modules, I think that was the name. With the Note 8 and 9 I didn't really see an advantage of it, but that is just one man's opinion.

Correct. No root for US Snapdragon variants. There probably never will be either. If you need root/bootloader unlock go buy yourself an unlocked Pixel or OnePlus device. Stay far far away from any Verizon branded devices. They even lock down the Pixels and OnePlus

Im still trying to figure out in 2020 why people need to ask if a north american samsung device let alone a verizon device can be rooted.
Imagine if there was a search button or something like that people could use here to look for these commonly asked questions lol .
Sorry couldn't help it guys lol:angel:
His choice is clear, either exynos like Brava has or a HK or Korean snapdragon...if he wants root.
If he wants roms, kernels etc then definitely go exynos.
5g working is another story entirely but something to consider if it matters to the user.

Well Yes apparently from what this article says:
https://www.xda-developers.com/samsung-galaxy-note-20-ultra-root-us-unlocked-snapdragon-865/
I was going to buy the Note 20 Ultra Exynos to be able to have call recording by changing the CSC to thailand ... but if I can have the snapdragon would be much better... Can anyone that has used that share their experience with this service? I would pay $150 to have the call recording. Even if don't want the LIMITATIONS of rooting but would prefer to have the better Battery life of the snapdragon... This seems like the only way to get call recording on a snapdragon phone... Can someone help with more info on this?

Question [CLOSED] S22 ultra SM-S908U ATT unlock/root?

I'm wondering if I can flash a unlocked firmware to my
Samsung s22 ultra SM-S908U ATT US snapdragon 8 gen 1
it's carrier locked I got it under contract if I can will it mess anything thing up with ATT and also will I be able to root it after flashing unlocked firmware
Not easily. Warranty is voided and knox features will not work if rooted. These changes are permanent... no going back.

Well there's no guarantee what issues you will or won't encounter. Right now you have a functional new flagship phone.
I run stock for several reasons. I won't root my N10+'s. Being Snapdragon's they are notoriously hard to root.
There is no root for At&t S22 anyway. No bootloader unlock. Unlocked firmware doesn't mean boot unlocked.
Unlocked Bootloader and Root has nothing to do with official firmware. You cannot flash an unlocked firmware and expect for the bootloader to unlock. Models end with U and U1 in US/Canada are permanently locked. T-Mobile might make an exception. Please refer to this list:
SM-S908B (Europe) - Exynos (unlockable)
SM-S908E and /DS (Asia/Africa) - Snapdragon (unlockable)
SM-S908U (US carriers) - Snapdragon (locked, except T-mobile unlock by request)
SM-S908U1 (US openline) - Snapdragon (locked)
SM-S908W (Canada) - Snapdragon (locked)
SM-S9080 (China) - Snapdragon (unlockable)
SM-S908N (Korea) - Snapdragon (unlockable)
The only thing that you can do to your under contract AT&T locked device is Debloating the crapwares. That is all.
No us Samsung devices can be unlocked bootloader wise. Unless an exploit is found. International models can. That is it. Doesn't matter the carrier or anything. No root unless exploit is found.

This is exactly why I pay full retail price for international phones because root is essential.

You'll have to buy a Exynos or european or Asian Snapdragon version to root. Really sucks and that's always been my drawback from buying American phones or American branded phones like AT&t and T-Mobile and so on. Might pay a little bit more but you get what you want. Wish I would have waited an extra month to buy the phone now versus buying the OnePlus 9 pro even though I do like it.

Well if you don't mind potentially losing $1G. The Snapdragon's are notoriously hard to root.
S22U needs a good case without one even a small drop can break the display. Which brings me to insurance. You probably don't want to put in a claim to AT&T with a rooted phone. They tend to be intolerant of that... ask them first.
Newsflash... 99% of the people who are participating in XDA are well aware of that risk and just want their actual QUESTION answered.

Well then answer the Q. I don't think it will go well for a number of reasons.
Perhaps your assistance would be better served over in general inquiries - not related to root. As previously mentioned, everyone else is already aware of the potential downside.

Funny, no solution ^here^.... I don't need your advice, the OP does. Pointing out potential pitfalls with AT&T is pertinent. Rooting a carrier phone under contact especially if insured needs careful consideration.
This phone's track record so far hasn't been good; not voiding warranty (or insurance if it has it) keep the OP's six covered.
