I was asking for drivers to build ROM from scratch. And was sent this announcement.
We widely appreciate your preference and hope you are doing well, we understand the need to update your phone´s software.
However, we gladly inform you that the device will receive Android Oreo 8, this update is being launched in a step-by-step manner, it is not known exactly when will be received by each user.
It is also important to let you know that if you try to manipulate your device with other software than the original, the warranty will be void.
Remember that when the software is available your device sends you a notification.
We hope you find this information useful.

If this is for real, its very exciting considering the GPS and push issues that exist with EMUI4!
Please use the QUOTE feature when replying to me to get my attention. Thanks!
Sorry, but I really doubt this will be true. X2 was not even of Huawei's Nougat devices list (and didn't receive it!) . Switching directly to Orea would be VERY surprising!
@robert.h, can you please try to get some more information from them about this if possible? For example an approximate timeline or which model can expect it first? Thanks!

I asked in Germany for Mediapad X2 and received:
"...Thank you for your request. Most of our devices will receive update to Android 8.0. At this point in time, we can not say exactly when the rollout for our devices will start. For current information, please visit our homepage at: -> consumer.huawei.com/en Currently, our development department is working on adapting Android 8.0 to our devices. Please do not forget, the update is done in different waves to prevent possible errors in the firmware. You will receive notification of the update for your smartphone as a pop-up message on your screen. then official data are available,
we will gladly inform you..."
when I asked especially for the GEM-701L:
"I can understand that you want to get a sound statement about the update on Android 8.
Currently we have no official information about whether your device will receive the update on Android 8.
I would like to ask you for patience and understanding.
You are welcome to contact us at a later date if we have official data, we will gladly inform you."
:crying::crying:
now we have 2018....
any positive experience yet?
somebody got the updaze and is already working on his x2 with it?
The only Oreo we're getting are the cookies you buy at the supermarket. The X2 isn't even getting Nougat.
Any News Here ?
Hi,
cause 17th September 2017 is gone for a long time, I ask nicely, if there are any new infos for this "Oreo" statement for MediaPad X2, please?

The X2 definitely isn't getting Oreo, it's not even getting Nougat. We will just have to live with Marshmallow. Also in EMUI 6 and newer Huawei changed a log of things and custom roms and mods are a bit more of a pain. If you want newer I would get the Huawei Mate 20 X. It's a 7.2 inch phone with a 5,000 mAh battery. I bought one a few months ago and it's great.

CRC1 patch is hitting the interwebs. Notable Android hacker JesusFreke issued the following update on his blog for those running JF1.51 US/EU builds:
http://jf.andblogs.net/ said:
OTAs in JFv1.51
July 19, 2009 If you are on the US or EU versions of JFv1.51, you’ll likely get an OTA update notification soon, if you haven’t already. I had accidentally left in the otacerts.zip file, which allows OTAs to be downloaded and verified.
For now, there are a few possible work arounds.
1. delete the otacerts.zip file manually. The file is at /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip But keep in mind if you use this method your phone will continuously re-down the OTA and try to verify it, which is bad on your bandwidth usage and your battery life
2. Replace /system/build.prop on your phone with the one from the ADP1 version of JFv1.51
3. chmod 000 the OTA file in /cache (unconfirmed solution, but is likely to work)
Or you can ignore the popups for now, and wait for my new release based on the new update (CRC1). I promise to “disable” the OTA mechanisms in a better way than simply deleting otacerts.zip

. I should be able to get something out soon (next few days)
In the meantime, even if you accidentally hit “accept” on the popup, it won’t be able to install the update when it gets into recovery, so you aren’t at risk of losing root access.

Why do you feel bad? You're not betraying anyone as you're not obligated to just one dev. I appreciate all the devs out there, equally.

no need to feel bad; CyanogenMod is a DF derivative

This kind of mentality can breed what is affectionately called "fanboyism".
Can breed, doesn't have to breed. Like I stay loyal to JF because I'm not a fan of roms that contain many ported apps. It's mostly bloat to me, as I don't need to take advantage of it all.
Cyanogen's roms would be interesting to give a try to sometime down the road. But I'm happy on my JF ADP build, it's close enough to stock (without the bloatware the US builds add in) to be compatible and runs light enough to work snappily.
"This is serious. The only thing you can do to prevent it is turn off your phone," Miller told Forbes. "Someone could pretty quickly take over every iPhone in the world with this."
The iPhone SMS bug is just one of a series that the researchers plan to reveal in their talk. They say they've also found a similar texting bug in Windows Mobile that allows complete remote control of Microsoft ( MSFT - news - people )-based devices. Another pair of SMS bugs in the iPhone and Google's ( GOOG - news - people ) Android phones would purportedly allow a hacker to knock a phone off its wireless network for about 10 seconds with a series of text messages. The trick could be repeated again and again to keep the user offline, Miller says. Though Google has patched the Android flaw, this second iPhone bug also remains unpatched, he adds.
The new round of bugs aren't the first that Miller has dug up in the iPhone's code. In 2007, he became the first to remotely hijack the iPhone using a flaw in its browser. But while that vulnerability gave the attacker a similar power over the phone's functions, it required tricking the user into visiting an infected Web site to invisibly download a piece of malicious software. When Miller alerted Apple in July of that year, the company patched the vulnerability before Miller publicized the bug at the Black Hat conference the following month. ("See: Hacking the iPhone.")

No, no change log. Also checked on AT&T's software update site and they don't have this new update listed yet. All they have is the one we got last month that updated AT&T's address book app.
Phone is rebooting now..
I don't see anything different right off the bat, but will report back if anything has changed/improved.

any news on touchscreen?
Just insatalled going to uninstall SGS screenbooster to see if there is a fix for the touchscreen. Will report back
Just wondering, did it skip from software version H81010e to H81010g or did I miss an update?
Is LG or AT&T posting change logs anywhere?
Is there any tool that will let us pull version data from the APKs so we can see what's updated?
I've been out of the scene for awhile (first new phone since the One X) so please pardon me if the answers to my questions are common knowledge.
im on 10e, and tried to manual check for 10g, says i'm up to date... can't check again for 24hrs.

Yes, the software went from "e" to "g" with one update. It is normal during software development to not release every point release.
Change logs do get posted, but they are not very good and they are not timely (it may take a few days).
Wonder if I will get this since I use my h810 on tmo's network. I checked for update but it didn't find anything.

Verizons 11A update had performance and touchscreen updates. Definitely feels faster and touchscreen feels more responsive.
Although my battery is at 30% where normally this time of the day is at 70%. And also my Qi Charger had my phone rebooting this morning.

Not just "Chinese" phones, else why are they contacting Google?
Well, at least my phone contacts Google because I have a Google account. I choose to allow that when I input my gmail address. I choose to trust Google with my contact lists and calendar and whatever. I choose when to update the apps or not.
This chinese spyware is embedded in firmware (trusted app, capable of escalation) and on a totally different level of what it can do, you could read it in the article. Or not. The article has even a comparison with a similar spyware from 2011:

No I mean the security company Kryptowire are contacting Google, along with Blu. Does that mean a Google phone is affected or is it just as they have a sales channel? Probably the latter but it does raise a lot of questions about exactly & how much control they have of the manufacturing process across their supply chain. Whether it's the the actual phone or individual chips being programmed. And is there any attempt by companies that make products in places like China to check the phones that actually come off the line for compromises. I doubt it but it seems to be a security risk to me.
Of course we all have to trust someone or some company in some way as most things are not open. I to trust Google with much of my data & security.
(I have read several articles on this, but still not much info, all seem to be a rehash of the press release from Kryptowire)
Google code is not affected. This is part of the specific firmware that manufacturer puts in the phone and it is allowed to even be updated OTA.
Meanwhile if I root my device is considered "unsafe"... But that's the only way to see those files and act to remove them.
As much as I hate Apple, I am more and more tempted. At least they control all the manufacturing chain.
Can I load a custom firmware on my phone to eliminate this?
If you can unlock the bootloader, yes.
At the minimum you need root, to be able to disable/eliminate the software. The original article that I have linked has the details of the software names:
com.adups.fota.sysoper

Hi guys,
I knew that by now you have all heard about this news the Chinese budget android devices are secretly sending users’ data to China...
I thought I'll ask amongst the experts anyway how much of a thread could it actually be, as I'm a new P8 user (previously only had Samsung's)
What bothers me is the fact news comes from a private contractor to US govt which aren't really fair & square on the privacy issues in the first place, and apparently the 'feature' was 'accidental' discovered...really?!?
Considering the timing and situation on the market, seems to me to be a competition battle...but it's just my thought
Anyway...Do you think a simple root is enough to get rid of such 'back door' code?
Looking forward to your input

who cares who finds it, so long as someone does. Rooting and deleting all the relevant files should work, I guess, but possible could cause some other issues, who knows.
Its pretty funny since most of the people reading those articles doesn't really understand it very well....people quickly jump into conclusion and think that Chinese Smartphone device secretly sending private information to China....
If you read the articles very carefully then you will realize that Shanghai Adups Technology Co. Ltd is a company that provide FOTA services, that means and manufacturers that use their services for OTA updates are likely to effected with the spyware not just Chinese Smartphone....their market share is exceeding 70% across over 150 countries and god know how many devices manufacturers & services operator have been using their services for OTA updates...

1- There is no mention of the screen protection for any of the phone and that is one of the biggest factor users think of while buying a new phone. A mention of such things in the specification sheet will probably increase the sale. Earlier it used to be dragontrail but lately that also vanished. What kind of screen protection is used and how about using the Gorilla Glass for better protection?
2- Source code and Kernel sources are released very slow and even though they are released, there is not much use as development has almost stopped after decision to stop providing bootloader code and allowing users to unlock their phone. What is the future plan to open the bootloader code program again? as users are paying heavy amount to 3rd party websites, so if they can provide the codes by various means, why can't Huawei/Honor?
Will Honor ever let users use a stock Android experience? Some people prefer it.
Will Honor have unlockable bootloader in the future?

Why are you now willing to let Huawei users unlock their bootloaders?
Why emui 9 restrict full theme customization.
I love my huawei nova 3i so much after updated to emui 9.0.1.156 its works super smooth
And will huawei or honor have unlockable bootloader in the future?
why can't we change quick settings icons like wifi, do not disturb, battery etc?
qué nos puede adelantar para un nuevo lanzamiento que no utilice ya otras marcas?
is it ip68 ?
Does Huawei/Honor have any plans to offer a "Stock Android" mode similar to ZTE's? It could still be a manufacturer skin that looks closer to stock. It's kind of a best of both worlds situation without your customers feeling they need to use 3rd party launchers.
Regarding the latest security issues about Huawei discussed in Europe, you think the actual and future versions of emui/magicui should end user be worried about privacy and security of their smartphone, as we see each day these are more and more used as an electronic wallet?

EMUI, like most other custom skins, feels very clunky and rich with gimmicky features. Is there any team that looks at the usage of these extra features and takes the call to remove them? Do you have any thresholds for what % of users should use a feature to call it useful?
I love the design and build.....
The notch was introduced so we can have more screen surface area.....
So all I'm asking is why the finger print sensor was brought to the front instead of maybe at the back.
When is EMUI9 stable coming for honor 8 pro
Any way that Google camera is easily installed on EMUI devices
Will the bootloader be unlockable?
Boot loader unlock
Will bootloader unlock in future
Greetings! I recently rolled the dice on an eBay purchase for a Light L16 camera. The device appears to have had some serious OS problems/botched root/adb commands/I am honestly not quite sure what has gone wrong with it, but it is not even showing the OS as LightOS (the camera OS). I was wondering if any of you might have the firmware laying around somewhere, or any experience flashing these devices with AOSP/variants?
I wish I could help. I'm in the same boat with a recent eBay L16 purchase. The one I received appears to be one of the early Beta cameras. It does boot. But the firmware is really old, so the camera won't save any images. I was able to sideload Open Camera, but it just crashes. I'll keep on looking for some updated firmware/ OS. Unfortunately, I believe finding that is highly unlikely once Light stopped all work on the camera and the Nokia Pureview. No one who worked on the project is even associated with Light any longer. Will post anything I possibly locate.
Thanks for the reply! I reached out to Light via the email addresses, but I'll be shocked if anyone replies. I tried reaching out to a couple of employees on LinkedIn as well, same result.
I think I got enough information pulled from adb to maybe attempt a LineageOS port. Is your device missing a ton of system options as well? I'm having to hammer this thing through command line.
Yes, mine is missing many options, based on what I know of the camera software's evolution. I had purchased one of the early production cameras back in 2017; since sold it when Light got out of the business.
My unit has LightOS-1,2,2_1 and firmware 428992. The biggest issue for me is the format of the lri RAW files changed over time and can no longer be read by the current Lumen software (can't find the old versions), basically making the camera useless.
I'm not very technical when it comes to Android, so you'd be doing a great service if you can make any headway. Thanks.
I've also had this problem recently,,, and it looks like that Light have completely abandoned the maintenance and support for L16, but I think since light L16 is an Android based device, then if we can get access to the firmware for the later models we should possibly being able to try and flush it in. I really don't know much about Android though....Anyway, so I hope that someone can find a solution for this as I really have no clue about it.
I have a production, working L16 with latest software -- in addition to what I believe is one of the early beta units from eBay. I'm not experienced enough to attempt to pull the firmware and software from the working one; all the commercial solutions fail. They seem to require an application to be loaded to the camera, which doesn't work.
I'm more than willing to devote more effort, if someone has a reliable solution, and could post the files.
I'm in the same boat as y'all. I just received an L16 I bought off of eBay with LightOS version 1.3.0.3-057 and camera firmware version 0039C80D. When I try to update it in the settings app I just get a "You have the latest software, there is no new update available." message.
If someone had the final V1.3.4.1 update files that we could download that would be amazing.
Hello, I also recently bought one off eBay. Interestingly enough, my error when trying to update is 'failed to query software information'.
LightOS-1.3.2.5-098 and Camera firmware 00624245.
Kernel version 3.18.20-perf-g40a11f1, [email protected] #1, Thu, Jun 21 18:35:48 PDT 2018.

If you have the latest (last) version of the firmware (1.3.4.1) you should be able to 'enable unknown sources' in the settings (see more info here) and then install APKs via the browser. This way you can install any companion app needed to dump the firmware.
It would be awesome to get the latest version.
Edit-spelling and links*
Update:
Reached out to Light on email and Twitter to see if we can get a offline update image/dump/apk.
Reached out to a few users on GitHub that owned L16 related repositorys to see if they still have their cameras and could create a firmware dump.
Had a look at the Android logs and can see that the updater is trying to reach out to this URL for an update: https://www.c2dms.com/api/v1/SWImage/SystemUpgrade
The website has shutdown by Google on July 30th, 2015, but before then the URL was changed to ota.c2dms anyway.

I understand there is a FB group.
I don't have a FB account, but maybe someone there can help.
I just got an L16, but need updates from OS 1306 to get it going.
Any help is really appreciated.
Same here I just my L16 new in the box with LightOS 1.3.0.6-083 and cannot update to the last OS Light pushed out.. Bummer.
It's a real bummer!
I've been calling the phone number for Light Labs for 2 weeks and emailing the CEO/Founder on a daily basis to ask for a link- I've heard nothing.
I'm returning mine.
Hey all, does anyone on this thread happen to have the offline Windows Lumen installer or know where I can find it?? Thanks!
it seems to have gone away in the last 2 weeks. It was here:

I have a Mac copy I downloaded a few weeks back if it helps you.

Better than nothing haha. I can always spin up a Mac VM on one of my servers if I don't find the Windows package.
*edit* And I guess that explains why I can't find it posted anywhere if they took it down so recently.
It appears that though the page linking to them has been taken down, the actual files are hosted on dropbox, and can be found using the wayback machine. Linked here:

These may disappear soon too, so I am including a zip of both of them here as well.
Edit: Adding a link to the most recent Wayback Machine save of the download page

If only the firmware and OS updates were there too.
I wish. I'm still stuck on version 1.3.0.6-083 (Late January 2018). I think others are on lower versions than that, but unfortunately I'm new to all this and don't know how to dump such things, or how useful it would be,

Thanks so much.
I'm receiving brand new ones, no idea the firmware that will be. If I can help get a firmware image off them, I will.

Does this prevent you from doing anything? Does the Lumen software not support the image format used by this firmware version?
