I find the fingerprint scanner to be very hit & miss, especially if I've got slightly sweaty hands!! A lot more so than my previous S7 Edge.
Does it work ok for everyone else?
Do know about the sweaty hands part but my scanner is working flawlessly. Might want to try removing and then re-registering your prints.

What variant of the phone do you all have?
MIne works most of the time but yes I have the same issues. If your finger even thinks it will be sweaty or the sensor has any moisture on it at all it will fail. When they are both dry it works great! Maybe this is something that can be adjusted with software???
I'm on the G8141 UK firmware. It just updated today to the latest (7.120) firmware so will see if that makes any difference...

I'm not planning on getting a nexus 9 quite yet, but in case any of you are interested in getting one, you should really consider also getting a stylus for the screen. I use my stylus for everything on there, and this saves me from having to use a screen protector, which makes the display a whole heck of a lot better. I've used a few different styli, and this amPen stylus is pretty good, by my standards. You can even get replacement tips.
Resolution of touch screen ...?
Does anyone know the sensitivity of the digitizer? I would like to use a very fine tip stylus (like the directstylus included with the nvidia shield tablet), but am concerned that often tablet digitizers have lower resolution so it would have trouble picking up the small tip...

This one is not a fine tip, and would not be optimal for drawing or note-taking, but this is a terrific substitute for your fingertip, and leaves no finger prints.

Because it requires special NVidia software to recognize fine tip stylus. I haven't heard anything anywhere about support.

WOW!! That's awful! At least you can get your money back! Try an ampen one next, I have that one, and it's pretty good. It is not a fine pointed stylus, but it works as a terrific substitute for your finger, so you get no finger prints. I would check out that one next.

I just got a notification and am currently updating my V10. I don't know what it is yet, and haven't seen any news on what it might be
As soon as it finishes, I'll see if I can find out what it is
Version 5.1.1 Build number is LMY47V
Software version H90010f
I'll have to do some digging to see what has changed
Edit #2 Seems folks are saying the fingerprint scanner is working better and Reddit user said that "saving edited pictures in gallery is fixed now" (I didnt know there was a problem)
Don't know what all it does but my fingerprint reader works now with my case!!
mine does too...damn i just cut my case two days ago. now i need to buy a new case.
I haven't really found anything on what this update was about. Might call AT&T later

My scanner is ok. Initially, I thought it was great but now I have noticed it is flakey. What's really weird is that if it doesn't read it right away, it continues to fail unless I turn the screen off and start over. It's sort of odd. I'd be more annoyed but to me the fingerprint scanner is a gimmick. I'm more interested in getting the update for the sake of teasing my wife whose iphone never reads right! lol
My finger print scanner is epic
Honestly, I can't say I see any difference at all in the finger print scanner performance(not sporting a case right now) after the update

Fingerprint management under Nougat worked great, under Oreo I am having a difficult time enrolling fingerprints. Anyone else having this issue?
no problems here.
BTW: it can be helpful to take two prints per finger . It’s a little bit tricky, but fingerprint recognizing will be more fast after then.
All is good for me but a full reset of the phone was necessary.
My fingerprint manage takes not easy fingerprints like before.

Did that and I still have an issue. Tried using 3 different fingers too! Only able to get the pinky finger to register.
Was a bit tricky getting it to register the prints, just have to keep trying but once they are registered the scanner works really fast and is perfect

Under Nougat registering fingerprints was fast and easy, but with Oreo it is difficult - at least that has been my experience. You're right though after they are registered the system works well.

Certainly, if the backup with Xperia companion would work maybe. many people have problems with the fingerprint so it's software problem in my opinion.
Nah Xperia 1 has a very bad FP sensor, I checked with my old XZ Premium which works very well.

I got mine working relatively well, when I registered fingerprint the second time (after deleting it) I used to fingers during one registration (index and thumb). I just wanted to see what would happen, now it takes both fingers say... 2/3 times.

Thanks for the link I think it's solved now. Still not as good as the XZ1 scanner but I found that my thumb was slightly angled under normal circumstances so I added more prints and so far so good

As far as I can tell you have two unlock states. You can't use the power button to wake and then use the fingerprint sensor to unlock you can only use the fingerprint sensor to wake and unlock.
If you use the power button to wake then you have to use the pin method to unlock. This is what I've found.
I've found it's usually if the sensor gets dirty, which seems to be quite a lot. a quick clean usually gets it working straight away

I put my finger along the side of the phone while making my scans, for me it works almost every time now.
Previously I had my finger on a line away from the side using my thumb nail to nail direction now I use from top to middle which gives a better result

Clear your hand and the sensors place on the phone. I have no problems with it.
The latest android 11 update appears to turn fingerprint registration and usage into a better experience....
I've had problems with previous updates either lost functionality all together or sporadic usage.
Its nore more accurate than I ever remember.
Having lived with this for almost 2 years it looks like a combo of hardware and software. IE the software driver doesn't work fast enough to recognise the fingerprint and will occasionally miss a beat. I re-program after updating firmware updates and depending on how big the update is/ Security based and find I have to wipe fingerprints and PIN/Password too, for the fingerprint sensor to be re-discovered and then use the pre-setup program app which I have to use slowly 2 seconds between detections otherwise the app fails to detect the sensor and stops working again so I have to reboot the phone to re-detect and start programming the next fingerprint.
This handset has a bad fingerprint driver/app for the latest Android me thinks.
