Enabling hi-res playback on nougat roms via buildprop - Xiaomi Mi 4C

Not sure if this information is useful to anyone but here it is.
Basically after nougat update Poweramp music player's 24bit playback mode fails to activate (even with latest 704 alpha installed). So those audiophile among us might be super annoyed .
Solution, add this line to build.prop , this has enabled 16bit 192khz playback on aicp7.1.2
ro.lenovo.hifi_support=true

Text would be better so anyone can copy-paste the settings!

Worked for LOS14.1

Small update , it seems that someone on the Poweramp forums has managed to enable 24/192 playback by tricking the phone into thinking it has Samsung software .
Anyone have any idea what he added to the build.prop?

If you want the best audio you can get out of your phone, install viper4arise. (and use esira/eleven)
Edit: Viper does not activate 192khz playback, because its useless (for a smartphone with only 1 aux output) read why here.

Hires audio is a complicated subject. I think it works for me because of the placebo effect ? Lmao
However, I'm also just a hobbyist looking to tinker around.
If I can recall correctly , most forms of audio mods on Android increases the noise floor by a significant amount, making everything sound quite messy (but I haven't tested arise yet) .
Just looking to share info around and spread the fun of tinkering

I had this problem with arise too, but you can reduce the "output gain" to reduce the quality loss while amplifying the signal (just remember to set it back if you need a louder signal, e.g. for small speakers). Like that i was able to completely anulate the small glitches and rushing/shizzling (or at least i dont hear it anymore xD).
I've tried dozens of sound mods (even changed roms for it) and the best (and most stable) solution for me is viper.
You however have to try around and install the arise modules one-by-one and then setting everything suitable for your needs (Profiles, add-ons like atmos).
But its worth it, even my 24bit 192Khz computer sound sounds bad now! :crying:

And? How do you like Arise? ^^

What Earphones do you have?
For my somic/Xiaomi In-ear's it works perfectly (Arise core+atmos +Sono's headphone profile) i only use Atmos for more bass (e.g. drum n bass/goa).
But Mi4c/s is a ***** concerning audio (i think to remember flashing rom for rom to get good audio, but thats some time ago) xD

Yeah smartphone audio might just be average unless if its a LG V series .
Either way I'm planning on saving up for a dac or perhaps DAP in the future haha.

Make sure you get a DAC thats supported by viper if you get one ;P

This trick just send 192khz audio PCM data to Android audio resampler, after that audio data will be resampled to 48khz/16bit for output.

For me this line is the one that works.
However, in my hi-res output option, DVC is always enabled.
As it's conflicting with Dolby, how to forcefully disable it?

Sound mods: which is your favourite one / combo?

Hi guys, my name is Alessandro and I've just rooted my Z3. I've seen there are many Sound Mods out there and I'd like to know which one you'd suggest me to try with. Which one produces the best sound according to you?
I was also thinking about a small portable amp for my 16 ohm earbuds. Do you use one?
Thank you!
If I had to choose one I would go with this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...-dontbelive-marshmallow-stereomod-v1-t3366065 as it seems it's the more clean one
I don't really like sound mods because many of them look like "hey we got beats, dolby, whateveryouwanttoinserthere" and then it's like... "so many stuff, does this really even work?" I like the way the original audio config for Xperia Z3 sounds, anyways you can also try using new libraries from stock sony roms (don't remember if it was on cross device or cross themes, but it was a port from androidexpert35) in the case your rom doesn't have the libraries updated already.
Also, watch out for mods that "amplify" the audio quality of your phone, many cause a crackling noise because they add a number that comes to their head instead of following the sound chipset config (this is from personal experience as I restored the original sound quality for xperia zl and z in cyanogenmod builds (unreleased job))
P.S: Do a backup of your current rom with TWRP before flashing any "sound mod" because if you have some regrets you'll regret even more not having a backup and then having to spend hours flashing again stock rom and getting your system back to what it was before flashing anything
Oh I forgot to mention that I use a pair of Sony ZX310 headphones when listening to music with the following configuration on sound enhancement (stock rom):
DSEE HX: On
Surround Sound (VPT): Studio
Equalizer
400: 0
1k: -3
2.5k: +3
6k: +3
16kHz: 0
Clear Bass: Adjust between 4 and 8 (6 is preferable but adjust to your needs)

I agree with you. I'm looking for something which can improve the audio output quality of the Z3, not just for remarkable names.
Is it possible to couple V4A with the Sony Audio Enhancements?

try one of these, the audio quality on headphones directly depend on the quality of the headphone,
Ans the settings you set on your headphone selection on V4A, I got Sony MDR-NC33 Noise which is pretty enough for me, other V4A can be experiment and find out with respect to the headphone,
see for yourself bro, and one thing the audio mods above are far more better than Sony Audio Enhancement, I tested it and tried not to leave sony stuff coz z3 coz like 40k here but at the end of the day there are more options on V4A and you can combine it with Dolby Atmos MOD mad by bro guitardedhero, cya just sharing my opinions and experiences

I think ARISE WORKS BETTER,
forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/r-s-e-sound-systems-auditory-research-t3379709
that developer guitardedhero and his team are constantly updating but the the other mod that Xtreme Music is fairly good but I think he havent updated in a while and he also get banned sometimes for ad-links by the mods, any way it upto your choice I prefer more of that guitardedhero and its more stable I think, I tried both mixed in early stages of arise and xtreme music, the the sound was awesome, I got like 3 system equalizers, one for V4A, other DolbyAtmos and Xtreme Music Equalizer working simultaneously at a time, it was great, I had to throw sony's sound enhancement (sorry sony) stuff completely since if conflicts with other V4A and DolbyAtmos,
just back up your current rom, and try things out mixing them, if they dont work just google it people always have similar problems like tweaking startup init script and other workarounds.
And one last thing use powerAMP beta 3 for audio playback throw that sony music app aka walkman, it supports FLAC and has good UI and sound engine too, works with V4A. Just my experiences bro, try and find out for yourself,
http://forum.powerampapp.com/index.php?/topic/8810-poweramp-alpha-build-703704/
And one thing get a XDXC 64 gigs SD card, listen to flac audios only n cheap mp3 ****s, if you need any flac songs pm me, i got 300gigs of it
I'm trying some specific mods for the Z3, actually the last version of the Dontbelieve's mod. Arise will be my next step. How do I disable the original Sony sound enhancement when playing with arise?

Why sound recording is so bad?

Hi everyone,
It is common knowledge (I hope) that when you try to recording a video or just a simple audio file with some music (for example a song during a concert or, in my case, an audio while I play the guitar and I sing something) everything sounds very very badly! Now, my question is:
Is it a software or hardware problem?
This is important to me because I use very often my phone for these kind of things, mostly during a concert. I've tried to look for something about it but I could't find any useful answer. I hope it's a software problem and it can be fixed just changing a ROM. I'm using the phone as stock now. With no root and, of course, no custom ROM. Thank you
I feel the same about the audio quality, it's pretty bad.
I actually had recorded a bunch of footage from a birthday party and the audio stopped recording entirely after about 5 seconds in...

The microphone and the output jack is only bad, other than the audio speaker. It's common usage to put low hardware on smartphone like these to push on other features.
V4A Magisk and xXxNoLimits it's good to fix this.

Eqfy Equalizer v1.1.3 build 24.. Best of the Best Sound Equalizer that I ever heard!

Hi,
after trying out (so) many equalizers.. apk's, this is the very best one of them all absolutely, the sound quality is superb and its much better than an "SP mod mcu", the sound note is incredibly audible and everything is on his right place, you hear every little detail of the song note coming from your car speakers, really amazing.. according to my hearing, it was an enjoyed ride listening to Jackie Brown (movie songs) 110th streets, Barry (Black) White, Tony Brixton, L. Richie and so on.. I didn't like the vaper4android much so I didn't "installed" it second time, instead of it, I used another equalizer, but this new one is oh man oh what an incredible sound quality this combination of headunit-car-speakers you gonna get from this: Eqfy Equalizer v1.1.3 build 24.apk mate.
Settings of the car headunit:
Pop & loud + reduces the boss (tastes is different indeed) gain a bit.
Settings of the Eqfy (click on 3 ... dut) equalizer:
Pop + increases the gain up to +10 or +12, (tastes is different!)
gain boost is checked/ticked,
enhanced bass is checked/ticked,
bands overlap is checked/ticked,
you do not need any custom (sp) mcu etc after you (using) listen to this new one mate.. the heard sound music sounds like a expensive hi-fi installation (like the Yamaha dsp1 which I had in the long past) and it is even much better.
I wanted to share my experiences with you guys so that you gonna enjoying listening to your lovely (old) songs on the highway.
Oh, before I forget.. google is my dear friend.. you understand me.. right?.. you're welcome mate.
Indeed, it is an awesome app, really sounds so good. Already purchased de apk. The wadzio amp do not work with deezer, but this thing do, and do it so well. Thank for the tip.

That cannot be correct, unless the mod is not fully installed with patched MCU, as wadzio mod is a true hardware control (of the dsp) mod.

Hi,

Clearing things out!!..
what is Equalizer?: is the process of adjusting the balance between frequency components within an electronic signal, which boost or cut bass or treble frequencies, to adjust the timbre of individual instruments and voices by adjusting their frequency content and to fit individual instruments within the overall frequency spectrum of the mix.
what is DSP = Digital Signal Processor?:
A DSP is a specialized microprocessor (Chip) , with its architecture optimized for the operational needs of digital signal processing, by filter or compress continuous the sound signal.
if I install a mod -sp- mcu file on my headunit, do I hear (get) a dsp sound quality? Not always, because it depends on the purchased head unit, is it equipped with a dsp chip? if not, then forget it. this is a simple explanation.
now what does an PRO Made sp mcu mod file do? exactly what this Eqfy does, filter or compress or adjusting the balance continuous of the sound signal (kind of a dsp) by refining and moving (cut off) the low mid and high sound tones into the right place and then forwarding them to the car speakers. again simply explained.

From your response, I dont think you understand. All MTCD units have hardware DSP w/EQ, read on.
The DSP in this case, is the EQ Your app is a software EQ, which applies to android only and still runs via the main EQ/Hardware EQ/DSP It wont work with the built in radio, only the hardware EQ will as is in the audio path.
If you want a free EQ, android/Software Only, Viper is probably a better and free choice.
So, DSP = Hardware EQ, controlled by software, your explanation "filter" seems to acknowledge that, but I dont think you quite understand how it works in these units. Also, the DSP in this unit does not perform compression. You also dont seem to understand that all of these MTCD units have a hardware DSP, most with 3-band parametric, some (optional module) with full 12-band EQ.
Perhaps you dont understand the differences between 12 band and parametric (3 band)? If your unit doesnt have the 12-band DSP, suggest a read of the hardware mod forum, which details how to install the 12 band as mod.
FYI, the Wadzio Mod enables the true 3 band functionality, removing the chinese 'faked' multiband EQ; the chinese faked is rubbish, hence the legacy hardware mod to enable true 3-band, and then the brilliant wadzio MOD, all done in software - no hardware mod required.

First of all, I literally don't have any sentences to respond extensively back especially to 2+1 guys from now on on this forum from the past till now and it was just an apk that works perfectly with my own headunit + sounds much better on my car speakers without any use of mod or v4a things at all, oh don't give me any advice about any free apk etc becouse I have all of the most of them and the pro's one for years.. but anyway if someone like to talk to me about reall dsp and highend hifi matters my answer will be too honest as this:
Yes as you said, man like me whose bought a:
Yamaha DSP A1
+ Yamaha MX1
+ Alr Jordan take 5 / 5pieces speakers
+ Sony CDP-XA50ES
+ kimberly cinch highend pro cables
+ kimberly highend speakers wiring..
while some guys were living by them mothers or fathers and they took them walking to the school, has absolutely no clue about dsp chips and or extremely cheap chinese headunits with the so fake called dsp that cost only a few bucks, but "I" called just for fun a dsp that's all, and.. that is also the reason that why I sometimes blame myself enormously.. becouse of such replies!

Hi,
I totally Agree with you mate, cheap thing is always wants to stay a cheap whatever you gonna try to make for or from it..
In the year 1990 I had a ford escort XR3i, I built an AA hi-fi system for almost more than 4000 (compare with €/$) into it, such as, Alpine with a remote control + Addison (later on) power amplifier + Boston speakers, and lots of things on my own without any helps from an car hifi shop, when (then) the Alpine only cost 1200 at that time!, the Addison 1700, so these chinese messes never come closely to any AA or AB class car headunits at all, but I am no longer younger than then, so such a chinese mess is a bit enough for my, I use mostly 90% the navi + listen to my old -gold- songs on the highway and to the traffic jam.. that's all.
Ps: the (entire) upgrade unit of this thing when I had a px3 (+/- 4years ago) they offered it to me for only €50 to buy it but still had opted for a newer px5 headunit at that time, so what to expected from such a chinese messes if you look at the price of its used components? indeed mate.
and the solder work of it is even worse and the bt of it or the wifi signal of it is too waek etc.. cheap is cheap mates.
@..ikerg,
Te recuperaré si tengo la oportunidad, luego te mostraré qué mierda de demora eres un mendigo.
Muy bajo nivel de hecho es que eres estupido.

I love this! I gave it a try and it's AMAZEING!
Thank you!
So what I'm getting from this thread is that the defaults for this eq are better than most, but it does nothing that the proper eq and viper can't do better when configured properly.
Why you'd turn a true 3 band eq into a fake 10 band I don't know, software can't change the fundamentals of hardware, it's better to manipulate the 3 bands properly than have to manipulate 3 sliders for what is actually 1 band.
And before you get on a high horse about being an audiophile your contradicting yourself by purposefully degrading your ability to manipulate the equaliser. And this is coming from someone that runs Cambridge Audio and Monitor audio hardware at home, a dedicated 7.1 sound card in his computer , shure headphones and viper on my phone and a focal/alpine setup in his car....

I'm guessing it has no effect on the sound quality coming from inbuilt apps like radio player, since it's playing directly through mcu and not through Android sound processing? Same as Viper.

Well said, quite right. The OP was well noted for contradictory and often nonsense posts.

How to make the Eqfy Equalizer to start automatically after a sleep? I tried the autostart application, and also the settings of the Eqfy Equalizer it self do nothing.

Buys a £200 radio that offers more functionality than every product on the market.
Complains about a little bit of borderline inaudible crackle....
Go buy a Pioneer mate, it'll sound great, cost a £500 and offer barely 20% of the functionality.

Am I right in thinking the PX5 stuff has a true 8-10 band EQ that actually controls the hardware? Mine does and the finesse controls are very good in getting an excellent output.

Adapt sound and different headsets

I have tweaked adapt sound for the 3 Bluetooth headsets I use namely Beats Studio, Livall Bluetooth Helmet and Sabbat in ear buds. I'd like to be able to automatically shift to the corresponding adapt sound profile when the particular headset connects via Bluetooth. Is there a way to do this?
Poweramp will let you set as many equalizer profiles as you want. Great app, complex to set up, but nothing comes comes to it for a music player.

I'm not particularly interested in changing players. I just want an automated switch. For example when I connect my Beats headphones to the Note 20 Ultra through BT, I want the adapt sound profile to switch to the Beats tweaked one automatically.

Unless there's a plugin don't think you can support individual EQ settings per device other then turn it on or off with Poweramp.
I may be wrong, Poweramp is the Swiss army knife of players... lots of features.
Unfortunately I didn't find any way.
With Routines only equaliser and dolby atmos are available.
Maybe with a Bixby command, that you can trigger with Routine when a specific Bluetooth device is connected, but I didn't set it at all yet to see if it's possible.

I tried this route but couldn't find a way to specifically trigger the adapt sound profile change. I was thinking probably Tasker could do it but that's too complicated for my tired old brain. Ü

I know you're trying to be helpful but why the obsession with Poweramp? Like I said, I don't want to change players. I primarily use Spotify to listen to music.

If you have a large digital collection it's the one to use. Otherwise not.
You aren't supposed to use "adapt sound" for various headsets. It is not an equalizer.
Adapt sound is for your HEARING LOSS in various frequencies. You set it once and it applies to everything. You can use their "generic" age ranges or you can go through their hearing test to customize it specifically for you.
The point of it is to identify the ranges of hearing that you have lost over the years and amplify just that range for your hearing only. (Using any headphones or speakers)
The older you get, the more important this is.
This isn't designed to compensate for crappy headphones.

Question USB DAC problem

Hi!
Today I have been tested two version of external type-c USB DACs: first noname from Ali with dac chip, and second one of popular MIEZU DAC.
Sound is very quiet, terrible quality on both DACs.
I test it on PC (LENOVO LEGION), on Samsung M52, HONOR V20 - both DACs work fine.
Miezu has super clear sound and easy work with 250 Ohm headphones.
But with 12x... Sound super terrible...
Maybe some one knows what about it?
Did you tried to disable dolby atmos?

Yes, I tried all possible settings, what I found in menu (developers menu too).
Only one things little help me increase sound level - custom sound level (where you can chose your age, you can add a custom parameters).
If you are using an external dac leave all the parameters disabled. Then use the dac to apply any eq settings.
Check that both the phone and the player have all eq flat, no sound effects activated.
I'm using the xiaomi with a qudelix 5k and works flawlessly.

Hm, but with my DACs - flat level very quiet, I have to use it for increase sound level.

Just raise the gain, not the frequency sliders.
What player are you using? Try poweramp or usb audio player pro. If you are using a stream platform check that audio normalization is disabled. Plus the quality is set to very high.
Xiaomi SM???? devices have large jitter caused by mi_thermald and enforced DRC (Dynamic Range Control or compression). If your device is rooted, try my magisk tools (audio-misc-settings and USB_SampleRate_Changer (including jitter-reducer.sh)) to reduce the jitter, to disable DRC, and also to make no resampling distortion.

I usually use foobar2000, PlayerPro or systemplayer...
But, I just try PowerAmp - WOW! Now the DAC work fine, like on my another devices. I don't understand what poweramp do, why another players cannot work fine, Xiaomi system player to.
Do you know any free players like PowerAmp? (GooglePlay doesn't work correctly in my country).
One good news - phone can work fine with external DAC, but second bad news - have to use special APP (like PowerAmp) and I can't use any streaming player, such spotify.
P.S. What Xiaomi do with hardware or software? Maybe you should write to the manufacturer? ))

Neutron player work fine too.
Need to use Direct USB access in APP settings.
You can try neutron too, very good app one of the best imho. A bit more difficult to use, but offers a ton of customization options.
Those don't play audio if you plug a external dac, they simply send the signal so the external dac processes it. Maybe your apps play that songs and the dac simply amplifies it, rather than decoding it and amplifying it.
