Can i use a cuustom ROM on Snapdragon Model? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I want a custom ROM and I'm wondering if its possible or if it will brick.

I'm going to guess no because there's no way to install a custom recovery which you'd need to install the rom.

Firstly, there don't seem to be any custom roms compatible with fit US Snapdragon variants. Secondly, we don't have a custom recovery but we could use Flashfire. So no, you can't flash a custom rom because there aren't any compatible yet.

Doubts regarding installing custom roms ?

i finally got my phone rooted and bootloader unlocked. Now i wanted to get started with installing custom roms.
Some questions i have are:
What kernel to use for roms like Glade 2.0 or any other android 5.0+ roms . why can i not use the stock kernel
Which is the fastest ,cleanest available rom for this device.
Is recovery already present in all kernels.
IMPORTANT:If i install an ota from sony after unlocking my phone's bootloader, will it brick my phone permanently..?

1. Stock kernel is for Jellybean 4.2. Therefore you cannot use it for 5.0.
The roms already have the kernels , you just need something to flash these roms. Go to the development section and download the one click recovery installer app. Use philz touch recovery from that.
2. All these roms have their own advantages and limitations. It would be better if you read the reviews/bug reports in their threads. You'll get a better idea.
3. If you're talking about the above roms, then yes. They already have recoveries.

Questions before switching to custom ROM

Hello,
Since it doesn't seem that note pro P900 will get marshmallow, I am thinking of changing to a custom ROM. I have a few questions since I'm pretty new to this. I have a Note PRO 12.2 SM-P900.
1. Will I lose the S-pen function if I change to a custom ROM?
2. Which ROM is the best and it has to be stable? - as I'm using my tablet for school.
3. Is there a guide how to install a custom ROM?
First off I'm not sure what marshmallow has to do with going to a custom rom in your mind but just so you know, in order for a custom ROM that is based upon TouchWiz to exist there must be a stock ROM available for it. That is to say that if you want a marshmallow based custom ROM that has TouchWiz functionality baked into it then a stock marshmallow ROM needs to be released by Samsung. Just figured I'd make that point clear.
Secondly, technically S-Pen function isn't lost with AOSP based ROMS but the standard baked in functions are. Stuff like, the pop-up menu when you pull out the pen, action memo, smart select, image clipping etc. Those things are in TouchWiz so if they are important to you then stay away from AOSP based ROMS and look for TouchWiz based ones instead.
Third, there isn't a ton of development for the SM-P900 so options are limited as is support.
My suggestion is work on getting custom recovery with root first. If you're successful with that then consider going custom ROM after that.
The thing I said regarding marshmallow was more in the way that since Note Pro is not getting it then I have no reason to stay on the stock rom
Is it possible for you to suggest me a TouchWiz rom then? Since I use my S-pen and must be stable.
What happens if I fail getting a custom recovery with root? Will I brick the device?
Well to be honest I believe there's only one custom lollipop touchwiz based ROM for the SM-P900 right now and that's CivZ's ROM.

As far as where to start, like I said start with the basics which is custom recover (TWRP) and root. The reason root is needed is to retain the custom recovery, otherwise booting into stock system after installing the custom recover can often result in loss of that custom recovery. You need that custom recovery in order to install the custom ROM.
There's a guide to custom recovery and root here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...guide-install-official-lollipop-p900-t3154362
Worst case when trying to do the root and custom recovery is having to restore the device using a factory image and Kies so be prepared for that.
Most common issue with doing the custom recovery and root is missing the buttom combinations or a step in the instructions which can lead to boot loops and getting stuck on the boot splash screen. As long as one can get back into download mode though a custom recovery should still be able to be installed. As long as a custom recovery can be installed a custom ROM can be installed on the device. Of course this all assumes the ROM being downloaded is confirmed to be compatible with the device to begin with . . . try to install a wifi only ROM onto an LTE tablet or vice versa . . all bets are off.

[Q] LG GFlex 2 LS996 (Sprint GFlex 2) Cutom recovery and custom rom?

Hi,
I have a Sprint LG-Gflex2 (LS996) which is rooted. But this is my first time with a non-international variant of a phone.
I have fare share of experience with rooting and custom roms on devices : nexus one, nexus 7,Galaxy S2, Galaxy S3,HTC One X, Note 2(n7100). All were international variants.
This time around i have a non-international variant of a phone. It is unlocked and rooted running international GSM sim.
Some of these questions may sound like noob questions . But i don't want an expensive paperweight
Not much help is there for LS996 or even international Gflex 2.
If you have any experience with non-international variant, please provide input:good:
My concern is :
Does it cause any problem when installing a custom recovery on these devices? or is it same as on an international variant?
Is there any additional step required with such devices to be able to run a custom recovery and rom?
If in case i have to move back to stock recovery, will it lock the device again for international GSM?
If everything works and i am able to install a custom rom, does that mean the GSM sim will continue to work on that rom without any issues?
The ROM manager app does not list this device but still i can install 2.x or 3.x version of CWM. But does doing that from ROM manager is safe? What to do if it goes into bootloop?

There is no way to get unlock bootloader on G Flex 2, so you can't install any custom recovery or custom ROM :crying:
if your device goes into bootloop, you can try to flash kdz or tot file of stock ROM...

Samsung S4 SGH-I337 Safestrap not working rom

Hello everybody! I have a problem: I wanted to install custom ROM via Safestrap 3.71. I made all the wipe. But at the end of the installation, I get an error: set_metadata_recursive some changes failed. And so in each ROM. After that, ROM does not load: black screen after the logo Samung Custom. How to deal with this?

Was it a true custom ROM? Or was it a modified stock ROM?
If it was a custom ROM such as Cyanogenmod or LineageOS, that's the problem.
Safestrap is intended to be used with modified stock ROMs that are based on stock kernel, not CM, AOSP or Lineage based ROMs.
Typically, Safestrap is used on devices with locked bootloader, these devices can't use CM, AOSP or Lineage based ROMs, these ROMs are built to be flashed via custom recovery such as TWRP.
If you have an unlocked bootloader and you want to use custom ROMs then you'll have to flash TWRP then use TWRP to flash the ROM.
If your device does not have an unlocked bootloader but you want to use Safestrap then you need to install TouchWiz(TW)/stock based ROMs.
There is a difference.
Also, when using Safestrap, you have to leave the stock rom in one slot and place the new ROM in a different slot. You can't overwrite the existing stock ROM with the new ROM, that causes issues and the device won't boot.
You will probably have to flash your stock firmware via Odin and start over with root and flashing.

I was flashing the modified ROM on the stock kernel. I put in the recovery on slot-rom1. I tried to flash: CarHD, KushanROM, GOLDENEYE and Omega. And still it does not work out

Do you still have your original stock ROM in one of the slots? Or did you overwrite it? If you overwrite it, you messed up. As stated earlier, you'll probably have to flash the original stock firmware via Odin.

The stock slot remained intact. But if I take the kernel from OC3, then the device will also not boot up and the recovery will become non-working.
Send me the stock ROM for flashed the custom ROM through the Safestrap. And send me the version of the Safestrap for custom ROM
I understood what the problem is. I installed another ROM NB1 and it all worked for me.
