Note 4 SM-N910W8 (Canadian/rogers) No wifi w/Custom Rom - General Questions and Answers

Hey All,
I am quite new with Rooting Droids and have a little experience rooting my (tab 4, and s4) but now I am having an issue with my Note 4 I am trying to root via Custom..
I have tried A few different roots to see if MAYBE, it was something to do with the dev type for the rom

all roms worked and were installed using TWRP, and I was able to load phone..
but I had no access to WIFI toggle (it was greyed out)..
i am not sure if this is an issue where I would have to add mods (apps) via twrp loader or what, but if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be extremely helpful, I have searched a few different forums and couldn't find a fix or my issue...
Thanks for the read;

only issue with that is trying to find a Stock FW for my phone is kinda insane, most sites I have found are like 3+ hours for a 2GB download for 5.1 - 6.0 fw

**UPDATE

but the issue isn't with my phone, its with the fw?
or was it because I was an idiot and did 3 different kinds of CFW that might have mucked it up on me?

https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-tmobile/development/rom-maximum-ovrdrive-v15-1-1-t3196653
so after installing Fresh Stock Firmware, I went through the steps of installing TWRP again
it installed perfectly, installed the FW from the link above...
it installed, but again I have no WIFI access it had been greyed out yet again, am I Doing something wrong?
Odin -> TWRP -> untick auto - reboot, when finished, disconnect, power down, reboot in recovery
Recovery -> Wipe system, data, cache and dalvik -> wipe factory settings
Install -> Maximum_OvrDriVE_v7.1 -> reboot system...
im not sure whats going on, but I keep getting NO wifi... kinda frustrating when Im not using data since I have another phone

I recommend you to download firmware through sammobile web site. After download go recovery mode and clear fatory data and cache. Then connect phone to pc and flash firmware through odin. After that your wifi isn't work. I think your phone chipset have a problem. Come discode server So we can solve your problem

[ROM] CN Mod V2 for F350/S/K/L and D838

I believe this is the first custom rom out for the G Pro 2. Works on the F350 and D838. All you need is a rooted device.
Based of latest D838 V10D firmware
Stock LG Boot logo. No SK Telecom, Olleh or U+ boot logos
Unbranded
No Korean text anywhere!
pre-rooted. Optimized rom for better (lower) memory use.
Speed tweaks.
Battery tweaks
Menu UI height reduced by 50%
No SMS limit
Removed Korean audio files.
Added Note 3 sound library.
Download and installation instructions
Doesn't work on D838, as root is needed for this flashing process to work, and there is no root for the D838 currently
hi op.. how do you know this will work on D838 as currently there is no rooting method available for D838...

How did you brick it? I flashed this no issues. You just have to go slwo step by step. It will just be a softbrick, boot.img will be intact. Download mode: Remove the battery or power of the phone. Hold volume up while inserting your USB cable that is connected to your PC.
Use this how to unbrick a g pro 2 guide

*** This MOD is used for CN Mod V2 only ***
Unzip all the 7z and you will get below folders.
Connect the G Pro 2 with USB debug mode on, open the folder (A-I) and
execute .bat file, and your G Pro 2 will reboot after done.
You can also preview the battery icon first by opening the png file.
You can flash back to original style by flashing "原版电量".
Hope this help.

Have looked for a flawless working stock rom for a long time but there always seems to be something that doesn't work for me. Am using the bin Droid rom now but keep getting force closes, some random reboots and wifi sometimes just doesn't turn on...

OK so I just couldn't hold it and tried the Rom. Full of confidence I simply dirty flashed it with twrp over bindroid without wiping and voilà! Only cleared Cache and dalvik cache after flashing. Apparently everything is working fine but will have to use it for a couple of days to make sure. Su binary says it needs updating but I still have root access. So no need for that...

Just curious what version of TWRP you used. I tried exactly as you did but the flash would quickly fail in TWRP. Flashed fine in Philz and I put TWRP back on for my backup. So far, all working well!

You most likely have an outdated version of TWRP. You should be using 2.7.1.0.
Yeah. I updated to the latest version to be able to flash kk roms. Now I'm just unsure whether to change the build prop settings to have a tab 4 layout or not. I fear that it might interfere with other stuff and make the room unstable. Don't think I'll be able to hold myself though...

I have found a much shorter route to get back from MM. Flash an LP Rom and supported kernel in custom recovery and be good to go. If you want to go completely stock but boot into recover and do a full wipe and then Odin the stock tar.

I think all he did was odin the MM, odin recovery and then flashed a kernel. After that he wiped data and system, he installed a lollipop rom and a kernel respectively through twrp. I'm gonna try it lol
Hopefully we get a better signal booster from the modem
yeah don't do that, endless bootloop

Of course it wouldn't be Marshmallow, the international version hasn't gotten it yet. They got this version about a week and a half ago, so good on TMo for being so quick. The international version mentioned better memory optimization, so I hope that made it in.

Shows security patch now. Little smoother too.
It is a lot smoother. Hopefully it helps with battery life as well. 4.20hrs SOT is not the business.

yes you can use this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64161125&postcount=3
this retains stock kernel so no having to deal with any weird issues. all you need to do is odin twrp/philz and then flash the supersu zip.
Anyone have a list of the changes? I want to know if they finally fixed the keyboard lag I have with every keyboard stock or 3rd party.

Go into settings>about>tap build number till you have developer mode enabled. Once enabled go into and turn on oem unlock. Then do the process I stated in the previous posts and you'll be golden.

Anyone else having an issue with the left corner no longer working after the update. I can't slide down the navigation bar from the left top corner anymore or press back when I have Facebook or other apps open.

Phone won't OTA after flashing EU Rom

Hey all, I flashed the EU Rom last Friday after waiting a week to unlock the bootloader.
The flashing was problamitiac after something to do with a file included being an issue.
Anyway I replaced that and flashed and followed the rest of the steps
But when I get to the OTA update part, ibt fails
It'll tell me there's a update ready, download it and then it reboots to update but it doesn't update, it just reboots back into the current Rom.
Currently on miui 20.9.3.eu. Beta.
Please help
Thanks

Right, so I need to flash TWRP in order to receive an official OTA update?

Yes and make sure you do a backup before running the update. I have updated three times let it finish.

And that updates via OTA not manually?

Yes, it updates to the latest branch, stable or weekly version.. when you press the miui12 icon or use the updater app, it will check and then download the update to your root storage as a .zip file. When done it will update automatically when prompted. Reboot to recovery, update, reboot system. If you have encrypted file system, it may ask you for your phones unlock pin/ password when in recovery and then install and reboot.
It uses twrp to do the update in the same way the stock recovery would with official Xiaomi stock updates would, so you need to flash the twrp from fastboot as described in the ROM update post in the Xiaomi.EU forum or in my guide attached.

But What about eu updates, i should download it Everytime and flash it through twrp ? Or i will get it directly from settings ?
You will get unofficial updates and they will work through the app. It has been working for me...

The update will show in settings or a notification, and download when selected. When you press install, it reboots into TWRP and installs the update.

I completed the latest weekly update using TWRP in my Mi 10 Ultra but lots of apps automatically closed by it self and my phone stop responding some times, I cannot even run backup and for those apps that automatically close by it self the temp solution is to use dual apps function and run the apps on the clone apps then it will run properly...
Question if I downgrade can I do the same procedure same as when I do the upgrade on firmware without doing factory reset?
I would first go and wipe cache and dalvik from twrp. Make sure you don't format, easy to do when there but it should stop the non dual apps from crashing. I had the same but since a cache and dalvik wipe, so problems at all on A11
