Misconfigured google groups => major personal data leak - Essential Phone Guides, News, & Discussion

Essential screwed up big time. First they sent me request for additional data. I told them to screw themselves and cancel my order.
https://twitter.com/Bogorad/status/902704991839719426
Then I started to get lots of mails from other customers, most with their personal data:

And it's going strong!

Ya, NO one.. I mean NO ONE respond with any personal data. Dont even respond. I've started sharing this and telling people dont.
This is a phishing scam.

Verified...
I also got a email. Asking for your passport is totally a false flag.
Essential screwed up. I created an email for this purchase yesterday, and that was the one abused. So Essential, you were accessed in the last 24 hours.
Glad I took my precautions.

You could have at least blurred out the email, phone number and other personal information before posting this out. Good job, you just aided in spreading personal information to others.

It's been reported every where someone got into the essential email servers and started sending out these emails requesting bogus information. Probably some pissed off Samsung fan boy haha.

Google+ beta invites

Hi guys,
I received a Google+ invite and I am willing to share invitations with the XDA G2x community.
I've created a private form which will populate a spreadsheet so that we don't have a thread of personal email addresses released to the public.
Please DO NOT post your email this thread
With that said, you follow the link or QR and post your info and I will shoot you an invitation.
(and don't forget the thanks button )

Cheers,
This thread does not belong here. Post in off topic.
Somebody already posted a form that does this over in Off-Topic
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1147688
The problem doesn't seem to be getting an invite, but rather catching Google+ when its actually accepting those invites and letting new users sign up.

Yea last week, but I got mine from someone else on xda before all these other request threads started popping up. We were doing pretty good job of pumping out the invites in that thread and then Google shut down the invites due to "insane demand" lol.

Well, if you thought KNOX was going to cease existing, then Google and Samsung might have spilled water on all your dreams.
Today, at Google I/O, the search giant announced that it will be integrating part of KNOX right into Android for making it more
secure for enterprises and IT administrators, allowing them to create special containers on a device for business data in order to keep it secure.
KNOX will be integrated into Android L.....

Having Knox support is one thing but don't see Google introducing Knox counter like Samsung to their devices.
This is great news.

Good news for Android. It might finally get foot on the business grounds. It won't stop people from rooting.

I think there's a big difrence between KNOX and the KNOX-counter Sam**** uses.
The last one is just like crapping on your customers.
But the 1st one is to have secure systems so company's can use the phones, for safe and secure work related things.

Whatsapp keeps banning my account, any hints?

Hi guys. I'm actually doing this thread just because Whatsapp has acquired an understandable behaviour, but I want to know if I can fully reset my account in order to get it working.
3 days ago, after a total number of +500 reinstalls with same number (I flash my phone very often, about 100 ROMs per device) it started to add 24hs of suspension of my account at everytime I try to verify its number again, so, if I flash 2 ROMs in a day, I got ~48hs of ban, and can't verify my account. It seems like they think that I'm trying to SPAM their severs.
Is there any way to, at least, even loosing everything, fully wipe my account without getting a new number? I've contacted their support, but being root they've automatically rejected my ticket.
Thanks in advance.

Bump
How do they know in advance that you're rooted, can't you just send an email to the support adress? A human will read it and might be able to help you.
Other than that, there is probably nothing you can do about it

Thanks for the answer, but they only read it if it comes with their headers containing the device info.
If you kept on doing that your account will be permanently banned.
you to wait and be patience and do contact there support or you can also try to contact them via there official facebook page
The only thing you should do right now is lay low & avoid doing what you're actually doing because this will only result in a permanent ban

[APP][4.0+] Mushi - Connect with People Anonymously

Introduction:Mushi helps you to connect with like-minded people by letting you express yourself and exchange thoughts, without giving away any personal details.
Description:We all face different challenges when finding new friends on the web. On social networking portals, you have to know the person in order to find a place in his friend’s list. On the other hand, dating portals display your pic and other details for the world to see. On chatting portals, you might be anonymous, but you would waste a lot of time finding people with similar interests or might run into pervs.
Mushi was created with all these things in mind and is a great way to meet new people. It works in two simple steps:
1) A person posts a small message to tell other worldwide users what he / she is seeking.
2) People who want to chat with the author accept the message. Chats are completely anonymous unless you choose to mention personal details. The User is able to chat with any person on the globe.
The posting and accepting of messages from the message board is restricted to 4 per day. However, once you accept a message or vice versa, you can have a one-on-one conversation without any restrictions.

Will try

lift password retry limit on encrypted Galaxy S4

My dad passed this summer,
he had a galaxy S4 which probably holds many photos I'd like to recover. I tried many passwords to unlock the phone but now it says that if I try two more times it'll erase the phone. The phone seems to require the password before booting. I saw the logo and now a black screen asking for the pass.
There is a good chance I can find the password if I can try multiple ones. Is there a way to:
Remove the attempt number limit?
Copy the encrypted storage on my computer and use some tool to try passwords and decrypt it?
I'm not a 100% sure the S4 has encryption, maybe I can lift the password if it doesn't?
A best case scenario for me would be to have a way to test passwords using command line, I'm a programmer and could make a small script to test combinations of passwords and numbers I know he used.
Any help or insights appreciated.

I join in this question. I, on the other hand, need to review my husband's phone because I think he is cheating on me.
