To reproduce (Pixel, running O preview):
Start playing a video
long-press on the recents button to enable split-screen
open a second app (e.g. chrome)
tap on the second app window to bring it into focus
audio keeps playing, and any on-screen controls in mxplayer stay (expected)
BUG: video is blank until tapping on the mxplayer part of the window to bring it back into focus.
Video goes away again when losing focus
This is a recent regression - it worked until I updated yesterday to version 1.9.5. It makes split-screen useless.
Happens with all decoders (SW, hw, hw+).

If you are a beta tester of MX Player, then you could have received the update of free version earlier.
We have already rolled out 1.9.7 to everyone.
You can get the pro version from Google Play.

Hi,
For the last couple of mxplayer updates, I've had an issue when I play video in the background. After I bring the app back to the foreground, the video 'title' in the overlay stays on the screen. If I bring the overlay up again by tapping, I get two titles on top of each other. To reproduce:
Play a video
With the video still playing, go back to the launcher (or another app)
Video keeps playing (correctly)
Re-open mx player
Video keeps playing, but the extra overlay is there
My nexus 4 has soft-buttons, that are set to autohide. I think that this is related - when I tap to remove the overlay there is a small (<1 second) window where the overlay is gone and the buttons still appear; I can avoid this problem by going back to the launcher in that window.
I'm running a nexus4, with stock lollipop (5.0.1). This only started happening in the last couple of mxplayer versions; it worked originally after I updated to lollipop when it came out.
I've attached the bug report .zip and two screenshots, both taken after reopening the app, while the video was playing. The second is after I tap to bring up the overlay; the duplication is clear there. This happens with any video; its not video specific.
I also have a same issue in z3. Sometime video title sticks in overlay.
This still happens with the latest update from the play store (v1.7.38)

This almost always fixes it - it still showed up a couple of times on my commute. I can't seem to work out how to reproduce it reliably though.

@Bradley2468 Please try new beta version, it might work better.

Thanks, looks good.
@bleu8888 Enable auto rotation mode in mx and place the phone in portrait orientation. Now play any video then click on pause and again long press on pause button. Background play service will be enabled. Press home button, mx will be minimised. Now place the phone in landscape orientation and open mx player from notification bar (mx currently playing as background service). There you will see a bug. Its only on rare case.
note: I am on latest beta build.

Fixed. Thank you.
I love this app, it's been my standard media player since my first Android phone.
I upgraded from the Galaxy S5 to the S7, and the player isn't working quite the same now.
The next/previous buttons used to load the next/previous file in the current folder, now next does nothing and previous only returns to the start of the current file.
The seek gesture, as I used it to seek ack and forth the video image would update while seeking so I knew where I was. Now it only updates after I lift my finger off the screen and stop seeking.
I assume there are settings I've missed for this, but I can't find them. Any advice is appreciated.

Go to Settings > Player & disable back to list.

Isn't that the same setting that means when a video ends the next video starts automatically?
On my previous phone, the next/prev buttons loaded the bext/prev file, but when I finished a video it would return to the list and not automatically play the next vid.

Actually when back to list enabled, previous /next button won't change the track. I have already asked the developer to enable previous / next even if back to list is enabled.
Hopefully next update will fix the issue.

Hi
I use MX Player on my Galaxy S4 (i9505) with LineageOS 14.1
For me, the previous/next button does not work anymore.
Settings > Player & "disable back to list" has NOT solved the problem.
Whether enabled or disabled.
I use MX Player synonymous on my other phone and have importet these settings to my Galaxy S4.
This also has not solved my problem.

First one is not a bug at all. In recent version of Samsung file manger & Gallery it uses content scheme instead of file scheme. For example it sends some odd path to MX Player (like Content://[email protected]/external/video/12345)
You can confirm it by opening the properties while playing the video. In this case MX Player won't aware the actual location of the file. So, it's almost impossible to use next/previous as the content folder is unknown to the app.
For the second one, Goto Settings >> Player and enable Preview while Seeking. That's all.
"You can confirm it by opening the properties while playing the video. "
Thanks for this note.
The previous/next track button works again. :good:

Fixing MX player background play issue in Oreo
With the Oreo update every app now has Individual power saving settings. So if an App is using intelligent power saving Android will aitomatically shut down back ground running after a certain period of time or if multiple apps start running at the same time. So if you play Youtube while running MX player, Android power management can shut it down.
To fix the background play issue I tried the following
1. Open settings
2. Go to App Management
3. Find and open Mx player
4. Tap on power saving
5. Change from Intelligent control to Allow running in background
This worked for me.
I use the next and back buttons on my Bluetooth headset to act as fast forward and rewind.
For this purpose, I have enabled 'Media buttons' and 'Next/Prev → FF/Rew' in the settings,
but when the app is running in the background, 'Next/Prev → FF/Rew' does not work.
When it is in the background, it is not converted and simply works as 'Next/Prev'.
Also, when the app is in the foreground, it will work as 'FF/Rew' as expected.
Note that the 'Double/Triple Press → Next/Prev' option has nothing to do with this behavior,
and will behave as described above whether it is on or off.
Additionally, the above is how it works in the conventional video player. If you open an audio file in the 'NEW PLAYER', it will behave like "Next/Prev" regardless of the app status.

Thanks for the fix!
That build worked fine as 'FF/Rew' both in the foreground and in the background (in Conventional Video Player).
Hi, i had the same problem and this apk fixed it, many thanks!
I noticed that now a few official updates have been launched on GPlay - but this bug is still present in the newest version, therefore i still have to use this slightly outdated APK. Is it going to be fixed on official installation in Google Play?
Hello,
I've been using MX Player Pro for years and often listen to videos with my phone's screen off using the background play functionality. In the most recent update (MX Player Pro 1.46.10) the background play options in the settings were changed to either background play or picture in picture. Once I figured this out and selected background play I was able to listen to videos with the screen off again, however the Picture-in-Picture button no longer works while playing a video. In previous versions when I had background play configured, the PiP button in the on-screen controls during playback still allowed me to use the PiP functionality on the fly.
Can you please fix the PiP button so that it still works even if I have background play configured as the default in the local player settings? Otherwise it seems like the only option is to revert to 1.42.13 and never update the app again.
Thanks!
having the same issue, this on top that since like a year ago, the headset Bluetooth buttons don't work for forwarding or rewinding 5 seconds as it used to (it works only when video is playing in background or PiP) this is extremely frustrating
newest version got it solved.

Gotcha. Sorry, I wasn't aware of the beta program. I'll look forward to its forthcoming release on the Play store.
