Rom with on-screen nav - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My S6 buttons stopped working, except for the home button. Is there a rom that has on-screen navigation buttons? I have tried apps from the Play Store but they are all overlays.
Any rom? AOSP or even Touchwiz, doesn't matter. I just need the on-screen buttons.
Thanks.

Add "qemu.hw.mainkeys=0" to the build.prop file ("/system/build.prop") and then reboot.

This worked. Thanks a lot!
Is there any way to make it a little smaller though?
edit: I changed the dpi in developer options and that helped a lot.
Is there a way to change the colour? S8NavCC app doesn't work with the S6.

There's also an alternative way. I use the following app to place my own shortcut as a tile in the quick settings pull down menu. From there, I linked my launcher (Nova in my case):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.simonesestito.ntiles&hl=en
When I pull down the quick settings and tap the button, I get sent to the home screen.

Have you tried (& succeeded) hiding the onscreen buttons and using gestures instead
I tried getting rid of the nav bar and used the pie controls, but it just feels weird , it's not instantaneous like the on screen buttons. I think gestures would be a better option, something like swipe left back, swipe right :multitasking swipe down:home
I know there's a "swipe back" mod on Xposed, but it doesn't work all that well, with a lot of apps it just sends to the homescreen and sometimes the previous screen becomes the "wallpaper" when I'm on the homescreen.
I tried too an app called "swipe home back" but it just some presets and I cannot set the way the gestures work
If you are rooted you can use LMT Launcher with Gestures and/or ISAS commands.

It won't replace Google Launcher. LMT is like a PIE advanced app.
i think u meed a diff phone for that. those soft buttons are a replacement for those phones without the 3 hard buttons.

[Q] Remove on screen buttons

I remember that there was a way to remove on screen buttons but don't remember how. Anyone know how since we now have s-off. I purchased an app a while back that allowed you to set swipe gestures as anything you want. So I set home, back, menu, recents, and google now as 2-3 finger swipes which is better than having on screen buttons.
edit- I removed it. Only issue is icons get pushed higher on homescreen only and can't move them lower.

No app just edit build.prop and add to the end qemu.hw.mainkeys=1. Then reboot.
GMD auto hide soft keys works also.

No Notification Displayed on the Apps Icon

Hi guys,
I found that there's no notification count on SMS, Whatsapp, etc on the icon. In the past with other phone, I always have it. I'm wondering if this is a configuration issue?
And the other thing is can I swap back and menu item? As well as change menu item to long press and show recent items to short press?
Thanks.

I can only say you can change the buttons in settings. (swap back and recent apps) You can also add Menu button. Try to play it, you might be able to set it the way you want. With notification count on icon am not sure as I use different launcher.
All this apply to CM rom, if you have stock rom everything you mentioned worked for me fine.

Thanks for the reply.
I couldn't find the button swap setting in settings page, did I miss something here?
I am still using original RON and neither original launcher nor Nova launcher showing notification count on the apps icon.
Thanks.

Try factory reset and test again. Maybe I was running custom launcher and now can not remember right IF I could see the notifications on icon on default or custom launcher. I am now on CM so can not test it.
Somebody else have to tell ya

Thanks mate, no worries. I will see how and update here if I managed to resolve it.
Does CM audio working in the latest build?
For the notification count in the icons you need a launcher that supports it. For example Nova launcher, but then you will also need another app as Missed It! or TeslaUnread.
With the stock ROM you cannot swap the back and menu button, but well, this device is so big, if you're a righty the back button is more useful in the right.
However I would love the ability to reconfigure the menu button and swap it with the recents menu item...

Thank you. Yeah I purchased Nova prime in the end and use TeslaUnread. As for the soft button configuration, I will wait for custom ROM. Cheers. ?

[Q] Is there a way to "TRULY" disable the "Navigation Bar"?

Greetings!
I know there's a way to put the device always in "Immersive Mode", that way you can hide the Navigation Bar:
Code:
settings put global policy_control immersive.navigation=*
But every time I swipe from the bottom to any place in the screen, the NavBar appears again (thats really frustrating >_<).
I use LMT Launched (pie), so... I don't need the NavBar to be there.
Is there a real way to truly disable the Navigation Bar???
On some roms, there's a way to do it from inside options (like in Pure Nexus rom for example), I'm currently using RenovateICE, but that option is not implemented yet.
Also, the old trick to disable the NavBar (qemu.hw.mainkeys=1) does not work on Android 7+.
Thank you for your time!!! =D
This is something I'd love to see a workaround for. I love the immersive mode feeling but I can't stand that you can't disable the nav bar completely. It hinders your ability to use swipe gestures whenever it comes back on screen and really it just defeats the purpose so I stopped using it for now.
I'll wait for a way to disable the nav bar completely on the stock ROM before I go back to "immersive mode" (if anything of the like ever comes along that is).

Yeah, or for example, when the keyboard pops out, the NavBar appears. D=
I'm pretty sure that there should be a way to do it!!!
Hi,
I was facing the same thing, and decided to take the plunge and root my phone, just for this since I have an exynos version.
From then you can edit the prop build file and remove the navbar permanently.
I use Swipe Gesture (app) to navigate around the phone with every apps full screen, it is a game changer. You can even customise actions (long press launching split screen, ect...)

What line did you added to build.prop???
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 ????
Lilolilo27, if you could elaborate on which parameter(s) you had to change in the build prop I would be forever thankful! I didn't think there would be an easy fix for this so soon!
Hi,
Yes just add the qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 line to the end of the build prop file with a root explorer and reboot.
Just for precaution, make a backup of the prop file before hand AND set up Swipe Gesture or any other navigation app BEFORE making the change (or your keys will be gone and you wont be able to navigate around your phone)
Thanks lilolilo27. I'll have to give this a go when I have a few minutes and see how I come up. Thanks for the heads up btw.

enjoy!
I personally love it, don't see myself using a navigation bar ever again
shame we dont have the same option as windows phone , the swipe up to hide the nav bar , simple but perfect

Added it to my build.prop on Oreo b2, and had the same issue. Have you tried the layers solution? I would, but I haven't purchased the Samsung extension and don't really want to until I know it works (my hunch is that it only works on Nougat)

Reachability cursor alternative

After updating to android 10 reachability cursor stopped working are there any other alternatives?
Would like to know too.
I have started working on a "replacement" for personal use, perhaps someone else will find it useful. It's really barebones right now with no configuration options at all.
To get the app working, first you'll need to allow "Display over other apps" by going to: Settings -> Apps & notifications -> One Hand Cursor -> Advanced.
After that, enable the app's accessibility service by going to: Settings -> Accessibility -> One Hand Cursor service.
Once this is done, it should be possible to swipe from either the left or right lower edge of the screen to bring the tracker and cursor into the screen.
The source code can be found here.
It doesn't work very well with the new navigation gestures in Android 10.
A great app.

It works great!
I use it in addition to the Fluid Navigation Gestures app.
I just installed it on my onePlus 6t and allowed Accessibility and Display over other apps. When I open the app, it is stuck on the Home Screen, I suppose, it says "Hello World", a pink play button in the right bottom corner. Could anyone help, please!

You don't have to do anything else than enable display over apps and then accessibility and it just works.
From the sides you can swipe and point anywhere on the screen.
Opening the app is useless.

Do try and get it up on the Play Store. It's fantastic having a one handed cursor again. Thank you!
Ur a genius, using with ROG 2 (Android10-Gesture Nav)
This app made my life so much easier as I have a big phone, maybe some feedback for upgrades if ur open to hearing;
Make cursor able to do gestures like scroll through I web pages eg. (Swipe)
Also being able to access notifications menu would be good, as cursor disappears for me once it passed top area of screen.
& Maybe a colour change for trackpad thinking maybe white or grey sort of classic look.
My Workaround:
(I know it doesn't work the best with gestures Nav enabled but I think I can get the hang of it+back is to swipe L/R but when I use your app I only need tap bottom L/R of my screen to show trackpad) + (I added to my start-up menu on phone)
Many thanks for sharing :good:
I think you made a really good app man, congrats.

Sometimes you have to disable and enable these more than once to make it work.
I just released an alternative to that app, you can find it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quickcursor
