Hi, I have a new Google Pixel on which I'd like to install the PureNexus ROM. I've gotten to the stage in which I have installed TWRP and have rooted the phone. After then booting into recovery, I am trying to install Purenexus by installing a zip that I've placed on the phone's internal storage (/sdcard). However, I then get a message that I've not seen before:
"Could not find 'META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary' in the zip file."
I tried this a couple of times. Rebooted back into recovery, but always get the same message. If I unzip the purenexus file, it is true that that file does not exist..., but I think I have the correct file, which I downloaded from here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=142297
Check the MD5 hash of the zip you downloaded, compare it to the MD5 listed on Android File Host for the file. If it doesn't match, redownload the file and compare again until the MD5 matches.

I have re downloaded already, renamed twice and the file is in the root folder.
I am trying to flash "PD98IMG_Ace_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.36.405.8_R_Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2_release_187331_signed"
I have no idea what md5 and checksum is?
Im new to all this
Is that an official ROM?
MD5 is a hash value placed in a packet to insure integrity, pretty much the original packet and packet received do a check to make sure the hash is the same otherwise the file was corrupted or manipulated along the way.

I'm not sure if its official.
I basically just want to flash gingerbread to my Desire HD, The OTA Update hasnt been release here in south africa, and I want my gingerbread dammit!
Just flash this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056727
It is way better then official release
Now go and get some Gingerbread!
What is it? i read somewhere that if a radio and checksum don't match, it has a negative effect.
its pretty simple. its just a set of numbers and letters, if they match up perfectly with the one in the op of the radio or rom then your good to go. If they dont match you run the risk of bricking your phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=706705

Download it again and check. No way to fix it if it's corrupt, i.e. MD5 sums don't match.
MD5 is a mathematical algorithm, used in encryption and other security applications.
When you run MD5 software on a file it performs the calculation and out comes a long hexedecimal number which is refered to as the MD5 checksum.
It's customary for this checksum to be posted along with the link to files such as ROMs and radios.
When you download, you can then run your own MD5 software on the downloaded file. It will perform the exact same mathematical calculation and give you the MD5 checksum of the file you have downloaded.
If your checksum matches the one posted by the dev, you can be sure you have an accurate copy of the downloaded file. If they don't match, then your download is either corrupt, or possibly some kind of trojan.
You should never install any software if the MD5 sum does not match the one provided by the dev. Instead, try downloading the file again, perhaps from a different mirror. If all else fails, contact the dev as it's possible they might have posted an incorrect checksum, or may have an alternate means by which you can obtain the file.

use any file manager you have and navigate to the zip file
tap and hold on it and select properties
somewhere it will say show md5 checksum or calculate md5 checksum
you will see a row of numbers and letters
then check it if it is the same withe one from the download link
Hello,
I'm trying to modify a couple of roms to remove some APKs and add anothers, (Supercharged and Lithium) but I keep getting md5 mismatch, even though I modified the MD5 files with the new MD5 values (using md5sums for windows)
Can you tell me what am I doing wrong / how to force CWM Recovery to ignore the MD5 files?
Thanks
The easiest thing to do is to bypass md5sum checks by leaving the md5 file empty.

It didn't work with an empty file, neither did it without an md5 file

Try to redownload your ROM and try again, sounds like you have a bad download.
You can only disable md5check for backups not for flashable zips.

Ok I am sorry!

I just check the MD5 using root explorer (there are many free md5 checkers), then flash. I believe TWRP also has an MD5 checker...just compare with the one at get.cm.
It is much more likely that you are not properly fastboot flashing the boot.img. Please read the OP of the CM threads to learn how to properly install the ROM.
To flash the boot.img via fastboot was successfull.
Where I`ve to put the .MD5 file on the internal storage? Before i have create a .md5 file with the MD5 Checker.
I can`t find any tutorial or threads for my HTC One S.

Put it with the ROM zip. You can also just look at the file and compare it to the one listed on get.cm.
Ok, I've been installing custom ROMs on my phone for a while now, and that process was pretty simple after finding some good step by step instructions. I'm having trouble though finding similarly simple step by step instructions on how to load a recovery tool onto my TF101 and load a ROM onto it. Most threads seem to be recommending using TWRP over Clockwork (which was in the Cyanogen instructions), but I'm first stuck at the basic concept of the MD5 files. I have absolutely ZERO idea what the MD5 files are or how to use them. Is there a thread someone with general step by step instruction on how to get a good recovery tool on the TF101 and how to load a ROM? If so...maybe it should be stickied at the top of one of the main forums for the TF101?
Have a look here: http://www.transformerforums.com/fo...t/31927-frederuco-s-guide-root-rom-tf101.html
I have not posted it here, but perhaps I should...
MD5 sum are just computer generated numbers to match the file you download. I'm surprised that you never heard of MD5 before if you've been flashing ROM for a long time. Anyway when you download a file here on XDA, there's always an MD5 posted that is associated with the file. You have to check the MD5 of the file you download against the MD5 number posted.
-There are many program you can check on your PC (I use WinMD5.exe)
-There are many app in the Play Store to check MD5
-A lot of the popular file manager can do Md5 check (Asrtos, ES File Explorer, ect)
If your MD5 of the download file match the MD5 posted, it mean the file you download is good and not corrupted or incomplete.
I use ES File Explorer to check md5. Also, many downloads have a .zip.md5 to go with the .zip file and then TWRP can check the md5 sum itself.

Thanks for that. I took a quick look at it and that looks like more in line with what I was looking for. I'll run through your instructions and see how it works out. If I find anywhere that needs to be updated, I'll let you know. Then maybe we'll see if we can get a post stickied on here somewhere to help other noobs like myself.

I've been installing ROMs on my old Samsung Sidekick 4G. None of those ROMs have any MD5 anything associated with them.

Ok, I went through following your instructions from the other post. Excellent instructions. Worked out great. The only small note I have is at the end when you get to actually flashing the ROM and gapps etc. TWRPs gives you the option of adding more zip files to the flash and it appears that you can simply do the ROM, gapps, and kernel all at once if you want. I wasn't sure if there was any reason to do them individually, so I just went ahead and tried adding all 3 zip files to the flash. When it rebooted, it just sat at the loading screen (the meerkat with the 4 colored circles) for a really long time. I tried again and just flashed the ROM, then flashed the gapps, and left out the kernel all together and all seems fine. Thanks a ton for the tip!
I have had issues with TWRP 2.3.2.3 when flashing multiple files at once. The newer versions I have not had an issue with.
I think I am going to re-do that guide but also use some different rooting methods and add a video for each method.
