HD Audio and VoLTE on ATT with USA unlocked XZP - Sony Xperia XZ Premium Questions & Answers

Hi there,
Does anyone know how I can activate/enable HD Voice/VoLTE on my XZP on AT&T network. I have an unlock RS XZP from bestbuy.
Everyone is telling the call quality is Mehhh compared to my iPhone and S8+. And the only difference is this function. Ironically they are saying it is similar to my Pixel xL, which I believe also didn't support HD Voice and VoLTE.
Please help!

No. Sony did not include IMS profiles for US carriers VoLTE or VoWLAN on this device, and the carriers don't have profiles for the G8142.

VoLTE and VoWIFI

Did anybody found the settings for WIFI-Call or VoLTE ?
Nothing found for Vodafone/Germany on my Z6.
No VoLTE certification on United States carriers has been the norm.

Has anyone, anywhere ever had a carrier VoLTE certification for their ASUS phone?

I currently own an OG Pixel from 2016 and it does not have those bands you quote in the HardForum (66, 71) and yet my Pixel operates great on my area. Are those bands important for use in your area? TMobile is my carrier if that helps any. I plan on purchasing it without a doubt.

I am on TMobile too currently running with a Moto G6. It has band 66 but not band 71 , and like your phone it runs great in my area too. However, I never have had a need to use band 66 or 71 . The only reason I mentioned the ZenFone 6 not having band 66 and 71 is some owners have the need (remote area, penetration of a building in the area where they are, etc).
What is critical for me is how will not having VoLTE affect my call quality?
Every phone I ever owned has had VoLTE as does your Pixel. For experimentation I toggled my phone's Preferred Network Type to 3G and made some calls to a robotic answering service and listened to their recordings and couldn't discern any difference in incoming voice quality when compared to 4G LTE. Incoming call quality over 2G however, sounded all muffled and terrible as would be expected.
Granted that is not an ideal way to test out call quality, better would be to make calls to different people over 4G and 3G and assess how they sound to me - and ask how I sound to them. But I have been reluctant to bug any of my handful of friends to do this with me.
My local TMobile outlet tells me that I shouldn't expect any loss of calling sound quality over their 3G network towers because TMobile is continually making tweaks to optimize them as part of their ongoing tower maintenance.
However, if you listen to what TMobile and others have to say about VoLTE it reads like this...
TMobile Support: VoLTE
VoLTE (Voice over LTE) allows you to place and receive calls on our LTE data network, and it's available nationwide.
Placing a call connects twice as fast.
Switching between 4G VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling does not drop a call.
HD Voice on VoLTE
HD Voice is a feature that improves in-call voice quality nationwide for compatible phones.
Voice call quality is more true-to-life, with less background noise.
It automatically activates, if you and the person you're calling are both using supported phones on VoLTE.
What's your take on this VoLTE concern wreq5 ?
Would like to hear from you and others on this. In the past I've turned down flagship phones for not being able to make calls over TMobile VoLTE. And now a very attractive phone like the Zenfone 6 appears on the scene. Sure would like to have it, if only I could be assured that not having TMobile VoLTE provisioning would not be a concern.

This would not be a dealbreaker as my rural
need or getting great service in buildings is not that important but others, as yourself, do require it. As for phone calls, rarely happens for me, and I am a heavy texter so texting should be fine. The choice is yours.

I wrote above "I never have had a need to use band 66 or 71 ".
Pretty much any phone released today supports it but carriers require specific profiles for their network. There isn't a universal profile that I'm aware of. So when a carrier says your phone isn't supported or your phone does not support it, they mean that your phone isn't certified by them or have their specific network profile.
I'll admit I'm a bit uncertain on the process of getting a phone to work with the profiles in the sense that I don't know if Asus needs to do the leg work or it's the carrier. It's probably both. That's what's causing the more obscure phone models to be limited in regards to network-specific features. So if you want to ensure support, sadly you need to buy a more mainstream device.
I'm going to have to pass on this phone. Last week I contacted ASUS technical support and requested that the inclusion of bands 66 and 71 be made via a firmware update. I also asked if ASUS is planning to enable VoLTE on North American carriers. This was their response.

Hello xxxx ,
Thank you for your patience and patronage!
In regards of your escalated query, our engineering department confirms the enabling of any GSM LTE bands cannot be done within firmware since it's integrated in the hardware of the modem itself.
Also on all our current unlocked USA/CANADA Zenfones, we currently do not have support for Voice Over LTE VoLTE in our North American market at this time.

Pls can anybody check the functionality of VoLTE (wich country) and/or VoWiFi ?

Is adding bands via firmware possible? I'm unfamiliar of the tech but sounds like a hardware fix to me like they said.

Note 10+ US Unlocked Model - Volte Question

Does anyone know how the Note 10+ Unlocked model in the US handles Volte for the various carriers? Usually you have to have a carrier specific CSC with that carrier's Volte present on the phone or Volte does not work.
Do the US Note 10+ Unlocked models come with all the US carrier CSC present and Volte?

Pretty much comes with multiple CSC of US carriers. I am on T-Mobile and WiFi Calling and VoLTE work
I'm on Straight Talk (using a Verizon SIM) and the Voltaren fine. Note 10
Volte on Verizon works fine. Although I don't see an HD when on a call, the voice calls sound extremely clear which may mean that HD calling is working. You can do data and voice at the same time also. The only thing missing on Verizon is video calling

T-Mobile will require VoLTE as of January 2021 / AT&T HD Voice ,international models?

T-Mobile will require VoLTE as of January 2021 / AT&T HD Voice ,international models?
T-Mobile will soon begin requiring that all phones on its network support VoLTE.
Existing, non-compatible devices will no longer be supported from January 2021.
This change takes effect for new devices and most existing customers as of August 4, 2020.
"AT&T customers have been receiving a worrisome email or text message from the carrier indicating that their phones are on the brink of no longer being supported, and that has caused quite an outcry. The issue, AT&T says, is that it plans to shut down its 3G network, meaning all calls will have to be made over VoLTE (aka HD Voice instead. And because only certain phones work with AT&T's VoLTE system, all other non-approved phones will no longer be able to make calls when that shutdown happens."
what those it mean for people buying international models from Aliexpres , eBay , Amazon , etc?
customers will "force" to buy only USA models / carriers models?
Thanks

Experia 5 ii wifi calling support on US Variant.

Hi,
Is wi-fi calling supported on XQ-AS62, US Variant of this phone ? If so, which networks. I am specifically interested if the feature works on Tmobile or a Tmobile MVNO.
I see contradictory information on the forums and hope someone who owns the phone can give a definitive answer.

As mentioned on other thread:
"Nope, I am using T-Mobile and Wi-Fi calling is not supported(no option in settings), even *#*#4636#*#* menu shows Wifi Calling Provisioned toggle disabled and Off (VoLTE Provisioned is disabled and On)"
I did some research and there is no definitive answer to why Wifi Calling doesn't work with T-Mobile but I suspect it has something to do with Certification from T-Mobile, Sony and T-Mobile should work like they did for VoLTE to enable Wifi Calling. (Not sure if rooting and adding some config will change this but out of Box Wifi Calling is not working with T-Mobile)
Thanks for the information. I assumed the North American variant meant it would support all network features of US carriers.
I see Sony Experia phones in the past that did support wi-fi calling on Tmobile, so its surprising they have dropped the support on their flagship phones.

Question Does Your Data Switch to HSPA When Making Calls? -US Unlocked Version

Hi guys,
Does your US unlocked version switch to HSPA (H) during calls? My friend with the Canadian version stays on LTE+ when making calls.
Thanks.
No. Also 256 snapdragon here on xfinity mobioe (Verizon)
Sounds like a carrier issue.
no, tmobile usa
I have an unlocked us version on tmobile, when I make a call it switches off 5g and goes to 2 or 3g and the call quality is horrible. Never had an issue with my s21 ultra. This thing has been extremely frustrating
No. Koodo, Canada.
Mine is a locked T-Mobile phone and I have no issues with calling.
Nope. US unlocked on Verizon. Stays on 5G.
