My S7 was on the charger last night and worked fine. When I woke up, the screen is black, and the only sign of activity is a flashing blue LED. I've tried all the hardware keys to reset the phone, and nothing changes. Plugging the phone into my computer, no device shows up at all.
Any ideas to try and fix? This phone was stock, and not modded in any way.

I've had this issue when my phone was in a deep sleep state and wasn't able to wakup, but a simple reboot fixed it... So I'm hoping you have the same issue

If nothing else works like pressing power button home button and volume down and then waiting for your phone to vibrate twice, if you don't see anything you have damaged the display... If it works then good news screen isn't damaged

Worst case scenario is the systemui was modified and now keeps force closing, you'd have to reflash the stock rom through Odin. I found a wipe data factory reset in recoery doesn't work.
thanks for the reply, unfortunately no matter what i do, the device will not reset. the display remains blank, and the blue light remains flashing. I am familiar with using Odin, and my PC does not recognize that anything is being plugged into the USB ports. Right now I have the phone in the freezer trying to drain the battery to see if it will start up upon being recharged.

Try connecting the MicroUSB > USB adapter that came with the phone to a power hungry USB device such as a USB fan, see if it is working enough to power the fan or whatever you connect, which will drain the battery quickly

So I'm an absolute idiot (hindsight being 20/20).
Running Froyo and installed an app to change the battery icon for me, did so and rebooted into a lovely reboot loop. Used Odin to go to stock just fine, reinstalled the froyo rom I was using before and attempted to restore /data from a previous backup. BIG MISTAKE.
Now it boots into Froyo, vibrates a few times and shows off the fact it needs to Force Close a few apps finally rebooting. I can't get it to go into download mode OR recovery mode no matter what method I try. Plugging in the USB cable while holding volume up/down sends it to the battery charging screen with every combo of the sim card in/out and buttons I can try. If I try to hold volume up/down at the same time to boot into recovery it continues into Froyo to crash a few apps and start the process all over.
I can't for the life of me get this thing into anything useful to try to restore. I haven't tried a USB jig yet but I'm about to. Any suggestions for this poor idiot?

Try keeping the battery out and have the usb plugged in and hold the vol buttons. Keep holding them and push the battery in. That has worked for some people. And maybe do what you did to get to where it force closes and try ADB commands.
If you can use adb, use it to get into download.
I thought about using adb to reboot into download mode but neither my laptop nor desktop seem to detect the phone having the USB cable plugged into it. While it is booted into Froyo it doesn't make the usual sounds indicating it is connected via USB either and monitoring the System Devices shows it isn't connected either. Just seems to want to use my machines USB ports for charging and not for anything else.
I'll keep trying anyway.
Try all the different usb ports on your computer. Sometimes one will work for some odd reason. If your phone isn't being registered on your computer I don't see how odin will work either.

Did you try the alternate 3 button method I suggested?

Obviously it won't. Another odd behavior it is displaying is that during some reboots it skips the AT&T logo and goes straight to the boot up animation. Some times it vibrates before showing "swipe to unlock" and sometimes it doesn't. I almost have enough time to get into Rom Manager and tell it to reboot into recovery but I've gotten to hit the button and then it reboots into it's fun cycle again.
Almost as if it doesn't have recovery mode at all anymore or USB function.

Yes several times now. It just pops up with the charging screen and sits there each time.

Pulls up that circular loading whateveritiscalled then the grey battery appears, sits for a few seconds and cycles that again over and over.
Will it stop force closing long enough to go into the settings and do a factory reset? Also, I would check the usb debugging box. I have found it unchecked after a flashing or restoring sometimes. Don't know why.

Not usually no. The amount of time I have to get in and try anything varies a bit based on voodoo and how many times I press the screen it seems. Without a stop watch I'm guessing it's alive for a full 20-30 seconds before it reboots with the Force Close boxes slowing down the process further as most of the time it's unresponsive as something else is crashing in the background.
Have you tried plugging it into different usb ports? There will be times that only one out of the five I have on my computer will register. All others only charge.
Chances are USB debugging is not enabled and that is what your issue is as suggested by the previous poster. Unless you are able to get into development you might just have to get lucky. I am not sure what else you can try.

Yes I have. This laptop has only 3 ports and my desktop 8 or so but they all react the same. The phone just wants to use the power to charge.
Sorry, out of ideas too. Looks like it's time for a jig.

Yep. Got lucky and had 3 100k ohm resistors on hand. Cracked the casing off the end of the USB charging cable and soldered them on and just finished running Odin. Seems to be booting up just fine now.
Hopefully this thread of insanity will be able to help someone else.
Hey everyone, for some reason my S3 decided to take its last breath (hopefully not) today.. I had flashed Mastamoon's CM12 build for my Straight Talk S3 (SCH-S968C) today and got all successful messages as it was flashing but when I restarted it my screen did not want to come on for some reason. I have left it on the charger for the past 8 hours and there is no LED lit up to show that it is charging, the screen will still not come on or anything. I have tried to put it into download mode, recovery, and safe mode to no avail.. Connected it to my laptop to try and use ODIN to go back to factory defaults: no luck. Tried Kies and the Emergency Recovery: still no luck. Does anyone know of a potential fix or atleast a way that i can get the screen to turn itself on so i can attempt at ODIN again?

(For ****s and giggles I also pulled the battery and held down the power button to drain the power remaining in the phone and that has not done anything either when i reinserted the battery) :crying:
Edit: Sorry forgot a couple things. When I connect it to my laptop, my laptop will ding at me saying that it is connected. but it will not show up in my computer or disk management. It also went through the initial driver setup and still wouldnt show up.
I know that this is the Verizon S3 forum, but for this phone only the verizon roms have been working..
Take out the battery for like 20 sec hold down power and volume down until another screen pops up then press volume up
Or plug it in your laptop hold the buttons I told u until ding let off buttons and really quick press and hold them again

I just went on a trip to China and had my phone turned on airplane mode for the entire trip. On the third week I took my phone out of the charger to turn on in the morning and the only thing that turned on was a flashing blue light. It flashes from light blue to dark blue. I read that it is frozen, however, I tried everything that they recommended to try, different combinations of buttons and such. Verizon said they will replace the phone but I want the pictures from my trip in China off of it. I don't know what else to try. I called 1-800-SAMSUNG and they said they could do nothing for me. If I send it to them they will wipe the phone of any information. I went to Best Buy as well and they could not get in the phone. Please tell me if you have any ideas!!!!

I am not sure which firmware. I know there was an update during the time I was out of the country but I don't think my phone was updated. I can't turn it off. I just can turn it on, it goes to the blue blinking light and black screen and then the battery eventually dies and the blue light goes off until it is charged.

You do know that to enter maintenance mode, you have to hold the key combination for several seconds, don't you?

Another question. After it completely dies (completely), try charging it to 100%. Don't try to turn it on after that, though. Try to enter download mode. Volume down-power-home buttun. Hold them down, don't let them up. See if the option of download mode comes up.

I have made it to the maintenance screen with the normal reboot and a few other options but when I chose those the screen goes back to black. I have made it to the download mode as well but after I wait for it to download the screen also goes black.

Doesn't matter about the screen. Does odin see your phone? Have you ever used odin and do you have the Samsung USB drivers installed on your computer? Have you tried Smart Switch?
Edit: smart switch might wipe SD card. The "Home" .tar files are supposed to leave the SD card intact.
Both odin and smartswitch can be located here.

If you can do a factory reset from the menu, I believe it leaves the emulated SD card intact which is where your pictures are. Research it first of course but I would definitely try that before you ODIN.
s5 has black screen, lcds lights up on boot then goes black
the touchscreen is responsive after boot. I can hear sound when pressing the screen
does anyone have any suggestions to fix this?
I tried some fixes I found, held power 1min unplugged battery 5min, not working
bang power button a few times - not working
updated firmware and rom - not working
the lcd comes on for a seconds but turns off. the phone fully powers up and i can access by PC
Are you on a custom recovery? You should do a full wipe and Odin the factory rom from a powered off state first.

Also try booting up without the sd and sim cards installed.
Hey there.
I recently bought a OnePlus 7 Pro that was locked to T-Mobile second hand. I went to go and attempt to unlock it using this method: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/help/how-to-convert-tmobile-op7-to-t3935947
I went to go and do the step where you hold both the volume buttons when plugging it in but nothing happened (probably shouldn't have done that because MSM showed that there was no connection although it was there in file explorer). I noticed that nothing had happened and when I tried to turn on the phone, nothing would happen.
I have tried turning it on with the power + volume up/volume down button to see if it would respond but nothing would happen. When plugging it into the computer, the computer made a sound as if something had connected.
I would really like to get my Oneplus 7 Pro back
Thank you for your help in advance and I will try and be helpful by answering any questions that you have.
Edit: The phone was also factory reset when trying to unlock it. Well I’m pretty sure that I reset it accidentally and kept pressing the power button which just led to it restarting and opening at the factory reset screen.
Sounds like phone is in edl mode but you missed the short window for msm to pick it up. Also on windows pc you need to have it in test mode for the edl drivers to work since they are not signed. St least on my windows 8 machine. Don't know about 10. Since i switched to linux on all but 1 machine

Sorry forgot to mention you should just be able to press and hold the power button to reboot. Hold it very long time until you feel it vibrate then it should reboot to normal long as you didn't wipe it
