Hey! My Huawei Y5 II is operating using Android 5.1. Is it possible to install, say, LineageOS or one of the newest Cyanogen mods on it (based off 6-7 version android)?

What do you exactly mean? Both LineageOS and Cyanogen 13&14 are made basing on higher android versions than 5.1. My device isn't officialy in the supported devices lists either.
Hello,
I am starting to learn how to cook Rom. Specially that could run on my Nexus 5.
As far as I know, I need the binaries. However that latest ones that Google support are for for Android 6.0.1 (M4B30Z). How can I make them suitable to Nougat or even Oreo?
I am new in android rom development, but I am very experienced in object-oriented languages, especially Java, so I thought I can check it out. I have a Nexus 5. I have followed AOSP guide (I've synchronised whole android repo). I want to build Android 8.1.0 for my Nexus 5, but I need drivers, right? On google driver binaries there ARE Nexus 5 drivers, but only for android 6.0.1 and below.
My question is: Can I use these drivers (for 6.0.1) with android 8.1.0? If not, How much changes will i need to make?
If you know any good tutorial for porting device drivers, please include the link.
Thanks for every answer, tip or advice.
EDIT: Oreo is on project treble, right? So if I contact the guy who made 8.0.0 rom for Nexus 5 and get the drivers from him, can I use them with 8.1.0?
Hi, what operating systems are compatible with the Nexus 5?
I'm interested in trying them all.

Sailfish OS (I have made Aliendalvik work on older version, latest CM13 base is a problem to run android apps, on older version 95% android apps work. On nexus 4 ALL 100% android apps work on sailfish OS with older CM11 base 2.0.5.6 version of sailfish. I have those packages if you'll need them), Ubuntu touch, Postmarket OS (Looks great uses much newer kernel version, but is unusable as daily driver and as phone at all), LuneOS, Firefox OS (This is dead for some years now)
