Installing custom ROMs on phones with older android version - General Questions and Answers

Hey! My Huawei Y5 II is operating using Android 5.1. Is it possible to install, say, LineageOS or one of the newest Cyanogen mods on it (based off 6-7 version android)?

Yes. If it made for your android then you can update.

What do you exactly mean? Both LineageOS and Cyanogen 13&14 are made basing on higher android versions than 5.1. My device isn't officialy in the supported devices lists either.

[Completed] Choosing between firmwares

I have Wileyfox Swift and its latest official firmware is Cyanogen OS 13.1.2 (6.0.1) and it's arm64.
This smartphone has clone, which is General Mobile 4G. The hardware is absolutely the same. Not so long time ago it updated to Android 7.0, but this firmware is just arm.
The question is - is it worth it to flash newest Android if my phone has arm64 processor?

Hello,
We would not recommend flashing other device firmware into yours. It may lead to unknown consequences.

Fastest android version

Based on your personal experience, what is the fastest android version for this tablet?
4.4.4, 6, 7 or other?

try, LineageOS 13 (Android 6.0.1)
https://download.lineageos.org/espressowifi (Wifi only)
https://download.lineageos.org/espresso3g (if your tablet uses a sim card and has a phone app, use this link)
Also try Slimkat (4.4.4) by Andi
...and may be useful (to have much speed) flashing a modded kernel?
Thanks in advance

The only working kernel is Andi's Anykernel but it does not support overclock so you will not have any difference in speed.
I had the last CM13 build on my Tab 2 (7") and it worked perfectly nice and smoothly. LineageOS 14.1 was terribly slow, barely usable in my opinion. Besides, it uses up much more of the internal storage than CM 13. Then I flashed LineageOS 13 and it works as nicely as CM13. So, unless one really needs any of the Android 7.1 features, I would recommend LOS 13 to Tab 2 users. (Android 4.4.4 I didn't try.)

In my experience. KitKat ROMs are best for overall usage

Sailfish OS (I have made Aliendalvik work on older version, latest CM13 base is a problem to run android apps, on older version 95% android apps work. On nexus 4 ALL 100% android apps work on sailfish OS with older CM11 base 2.0.5.6 version of sailfish. I have those packages if you'll need them), Ubuntu touch, Postmarket OS (Looks great uses much newer kernel version, but is unusable as daily driver and as phone at all), LuneOS, Firefox OS (This is dead for some years now)

Did you found something? Have the TB3-710F too and i guess it will be stuck on android 5 forever... The TB3-710I version can go to android 7....
you know why? 'Cause mediatek devices have no source code. Meaning, it is hard to make a custom rom for it. Unlike qualcomm snapdragon, its easier to make for it cause it releases its source code.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/cyanogenmod-12-1-lenovo-tab-3-710f-unofficial.3771079/ thats the custom rom. I tried it and its pretty fast

Huawei Mediapad 10 FHD new Android Required

I have the Huawei Mediapad 10 FHD S10-101L (4G Edition) for some time now and still in good shape
Unfortunately I'm stuck with Android 4.0.4 and no more official updates available, and only Gmail is working now.
If anyone could help with upgrading the OS to the latest possible I would be thankful.
Regard

Thanks for the reply, however, I need to install a newer version, the device is almost unusable as all apps are not supported now.
All you have to do is to find both a Custom Recovery and a Custom ROM suitable to the device.
If you found a matching Custom Recovery then after having flashed this you can flash the found Custom ROM via the Custom Recovery.
