Viper4Android - Honor 9 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi there,
Fyi, got viper running on my rooted honor 9.
Installed busybox, flashed ViPER4Android_2.5.0.5_guitardedhero.zip, changed audio_effects.conf to audio_effects.conf.bak with root Browser, changed selinux to permissive with “the selinux switch“, installed driver and tadaa, it works!
Sent from my STF-L09 using XDA-Developers Legacy app

So, how's the audio quality now?! (Through headphones)

I think it's way better. Using the phone with 3,5 cable in my car gives me much better sound!
Sent from my STF-L09 using XDA-Developers Legacy app

That's what I wanted to hear
Thank you my friend :highfive:

try dolby , guys,, better surround than v4a, but personal prefferences matter

I got one problem - sound is fine at all, but it's not loud enough. Tried speakerboost App, but even on 100% it's far away from the output my Nexus 6p had.
Any suggestions?

6p have a louder speaker.
Is it less loud when the phone is absolutely stock?!

When v4a is disabled, it's equal, but the sound itself is much bader
Sent from my STF-L09 using XDA-Developers Legacy app

Ah, so there isn't a problem here, as viper is only an equaliser.
And the other app looks like it doesn't have any effect on the volume.

Kinda sucks... Less bass
Sent from my STF-L09 using XDA-Developers Legacy app

If someone managed somehow to increase the volume, it will damage the speaker with time.

But it must be possible to get it louder. My car speakersystem wont crash... It is only the output when using 3,5 in the car. The other sounds are all fine and loud enough

I tried several installation procedures for Viper4Android: TWRP flash, Magisk module(s), with/without BusyBox and SELinux Switch, renamed audio_effects.conf, ...
Neither success on stock Oreo nor on custom ROM.

I sent tons of logs to Viper Magisk module Dev, he also went through the structure of the rom itself and he couldn't figure out what is preventing V4A from working.
First, EMUI 8 seems to have a different structure on some folders, and second, that whole Histen thing seems to be deeply embedded on the system and every single audio mod is not working.
I just quit trying for now, until some miracle solution comes up with some update...
Using Histen turned on with only the 3D effect on the Near or Front setting however, is not that bad...

[Request] Volume Hack

I'm not sure how hard this is but I've noticed that the speaker volume isn't very loud. If anybody knows how to get a volume hack or needs some help, I'd be willing to offer my time. Thanks in advance for your response.

Same here. I would be very happy if some kernel will resolve this problem. Otherwise, phone is super. Just speaker when talking ... and maybe not so good buttons. :good:

Definetly a NO to this on.
Using a active speaker at work which resets its volume to a base volume everytime you enable it.
The speaker is on par with a Galaxy Note 1 which I have just retired.
I´d even say its louder....but possibly that is because of faux kernel....try this...
You can install this kernel...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=250965
Then install FauxSound from the PlayStore, you can up the speaker gain a decent amount. It's nothing drastic, but I've got it loud enough for me now.

+1. Came here to say this. FauxSound works excellent. If you don't want to / can't afford to pay for the app, trickster mod works fine.
But if you can, support your local dev!

So you're saying using the stable faux kernel and the latest version of Fauxsound, sound modifications are working for you on the nexus 5?

Fauxsound needs an update. Faux123 should have it out shortly. It works fine except for the fact that settings are reverted to stock upon reboot. Little annoying but faux is great at keeping his kernels and a ops up to date and fully functional.

[Request] Beats/Acid/EQ?

Is there a way to flash an apk or zip file to get a system wide EQ on our phone like Beats? The sound output via the headphones is soooooo low. Any help much appreciated. Thanks!
Viper4Android is by far the best IMO. It's a much easier install than AC!D as well. Beats(even Awesome Beats) was always garbage to me. Especially compared to AC!D/Viper4Android.

Seems like I have to edit build props to get Viper to work?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I've decided to give a try to the Beats Audio™ PRO that used before on my N7 which is now outdated on playstore...if you find it and it works for you it is night and day compared to the original output. There is no equalization but IMO there is no need to. You can still play with EQ with your music player (I use poweramp). I've tried several DSP managers (downloaded, integrated in custom roms, etc...) but nothing comes close this mode. The only inconvience - you need to be root.

Don't really need to. The stock ROM doesn't contain the lines to edit anyways.
Viper works, I highly recommend if using with a good IRS. Works great on my Nexus 5!! Best audio mod I've used.
Okay. I had installed beats on a previous phone awhile ago and wasn't at all impressed. The EQ in poweramp was good enough. However, seen this thread today and figured I'd give viper a shot being as how a couple people recommended it. Well, I am quite impressed. I've tried it on phone speaker and Bluetooth and it definitely offers an improvement, especially on Bluetooth. Hopefully, it is just as good on the headset, haven't been able to test it out yet. But yeah, definitely worth installing.

Do you have the "Enable/V4A-FX is powered on" check box checked for the output you're using? There is one to check for Bluetooth, Speaker, and Headphones. All three have been working for me on Google Music.
Yeah, I have that box checked for my headphones. I've been changing the eq settings and nothing happens. Going to uninstall and reinstall.

Go to System-Settings/Sounds and set the Soundmod for Viper..
If You don't hear any changes go to Setiings in Viper and enable the FX Compatible Mode.

Thanks it's working.. But only on Google music player app. I use poweramp and no effect on it at all, however on googles music player it's really noticeable. Also I was hoping this would work system wide or at least YouTube.

It *is* system-wide. It won't work on PowerAmp unless you turn off DVC in PowerAmp's settings.
V4A is a comprehensive audio-driver replacement, not just some software EQ.

[MOD] Volume Boost on all Default Sounds by 150%/200%/Full Dynamic Range

I thought the audio files could use some volume boost to better show off these sexy speakers
These are the default audio files which have been modded. This is NOT a system wide audio hack. For that check out Viper4Android.
This will overwrite files on /system/media/audio partition and should be flashed in recovery only.

Flashed it with Philz but didn't really notice any noticeable boost in sound after. My music still sounded more or less like it did before the flash with the volume cranked up to the max.
It's not to make your speakers louder but it makes your audio files themselves louder as in stock ringtones, alarms, ui, etc.

Not sure why some are saying no difference ... revert to stock play any one tone at full volume, then flash the mod and play again ... if you dont feel the difference, then this mod is not necessary for you anyways
Added new edited set ...this one has been bumped to Full Dynamic Range without causing any sound crackling (on some tones with 150%) on the speakers.
Think of it like 120% volume bump but all sounds stay withing a decibel limit to prevent crackling.
I think its better than the 150%

You won't brick your device trying some magisk mods. The very worse case is you flash the factory image, but there'll be plenty of options before that.
