KnockCode - LG Q6 Questions & Answers

Hi, I recently bought an LG Q6 for an exchange of Redmi 2 prime at 8000 INR good deal I suppose.
Ok, so the question. I checked the LG official website for the specs of the Indian variant of Q6 which mentioned about the KnockCode since we guys were already compromising on the fingerprint sensor I thought KnockCode will be of relief but upon receiving the device I found the device is not having KnockCode feature, Asked the Customer Service to help me he said Q6 supports the KnockCode but why was the feature not present he was not able to answer I asked for remote call service in case they had their doubts and dropped the emails to customer service and LGE partners and after 3 days I receive a mail saying the Q6 does not support the KnockCode, I asked him to explain the Offical website tech specs which were later deleted from the website and no response was then received from the LG. Fortunately, I have the QuickMemo+ of the website.
Even low-end mobile phones previous of Q6 supported this feature, but I don't this LG has the courtesy toward their customers
First, they sell the device to customers with false hope and information and when asked about the same they abruptly delete the data from the Offical Website. NO QUESTION ASKED
SHAME LG.

How about the processor?
I installed CPU-Z app to look at the device specs. The processors detail shows as SD43O not SD435? Any idea?
Edit: Further research revealed that the processor is indeed SD435, not SD430 as CPU-Z app suggests.

I guess the cpu-z app is unable to know the difference between 430 and 435 the board is for processor 435 some apps shows the model number of the processor you can check with that.
Also what about knock code on your mobile?

Does any one having an issue where in Accounts and Sync, dummyaccount is created in LG Q6?

Is there any way to format the external SD as internal ?

There is no knock code feature in this mobile. I know it is available in LG G6.

maybe they can but no updates from them so I suppose they don't have any intentions to do say
even if they do they should provide warranty after the update is delivered that's the day I will have the Phone which I say and which I bought not the one which I'm holding in my hand right now and writing this Reply

Still mentions jnockycode

It seems that Android N won't come to Honor 6 and 6 plus. Is it true ?

Since Honor 6 and 6 plus are running on Kirin 920, 925 which doesn't support Vulcan API, it seems that it can't be updated to Nougat.
Will Honor provide it by any alternate means, if any?
Got it from Wiki that Kirin 920 and 925 won't support Vulcan API. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulkan_(API)
most probably it wont get as the gpu fails to be compatible with vulkan
I don't think so
Personally,I think google must remove vulcan api as requirement for update. Its like:
''Your phone has the power to handle the next at least 3 android versions, but since your gpu doesnt support vulcan api, which practically has nothing to do with running the os,fock off.''
I also think that 2 versions forward update thing should be broken,I mean we have ultra fast device with 3gb ram,it just doesnt make sense to get stuck on marshmallow, when some phones which are much weaker than our will get nougat.I even got the phone in the end of july...
Meanwhile apple bricking iphone 5 with ios 10.

I agree with you, because of this many great smartphones (like GS5, 1+1 G3...etc) won't get official update

It can be optional but not compulsary.
In Honor series of smartphone this affects Honor 6, 6 plus and 7.

Yes indeed. The 2014 generation flagships finished the progress that the 2013 ones started, what I mean is that they are still running on almost full speed as on their launch, older flagships(galaxy s3 is a perfect example) started to get pretty laggy at some point. If vulcan api is the thing that stopped the breaking of the 2 versions forward update scheme,I hope that at least the 2015 gen ones will do it when android 8 comes out.

most phones should get android 7 as their gpu's have vulkan support, bt its still upto eoms, weather to update or not, even vulkan api supported phones may still be betrayed

We can't do anything for betrayal by OEM.. But in this case, OEM do think to provide updates. Due to google restriction, they were unable to.

Cant huawei just release updated drivers and source so devs would be able to build 7.0 themselves? It seems more realistic than a whole new official update.

It didn't even release the basics to building custom ROMs. I doubt they'll do ot now
They already distributed source code some time ago. But no Vulkan support, no Nougat update.

UMIDIGI S2 Pro

Has anyone started to work on ROM for this phone, looking at the spec of this phone looks promising, it has a large battery capacity which is great but look at battery test for this phone it looks like stock software is not optimized, so just wondering if the community is willing to help optimize or any advise

the review of low configuration umidigi S2 you can see on Youtube
I've got the regular S2 for a couple of weeks now. It's a good phone with some downsides. Camera is not fantastic but good enough for everyday stuff. If you want amazing photos buy a flagship. Proximity sensor doesn't turn off screen properly while in a call, maybe fixed in future version. One of the major networks in Germany does not work for mobile data in most cases (O2 and Eplus joined and the phone can't handle the "data roaming").
Tech support is non existant. They will point you to their half chinese forums with barely any members that is spammed with press releases. Posting takes dozens of "money" that you must unlock with posts. Very unprofessional but maybe expected for such a relatively small company. There are no service addresses for repairs and the accessories market for that phone is very very limited. Barely any cases or screen protectors out there. If you break anything on this phone expect to get a new one. I have not tried yet but to get replacement parts for this seems near impossible at this point.
Other than that, screen is great for the resolution. Battery life is absolutely brilliant. I can get through a full day with using <40% battery and it lasts easily 3+ days on pure standby.
Wifi has become much better I think after the last firmware update. They are updating the phone but I wonder for how long. This is not a manufacturer that can or wants to support all of it's devices like big ones do.
Materials are good, maybe a bit slippery in the hands but all microblasted aluminium phones are like that.
Screen has a <1mm bezel between the side of the phone and the display surface but I don't care about that.
Build, to me, feels very good. Fingerprint sensor works well and fast. Android is 6.0.1 but I hope they will have an update to 7 or 8 at some point.
I don't care about benchmarks so I can't talk about that, my apps work well. Video streaming is fluid. No idea about 3D gaming I don't use my phone for that.
For that price it's a great phone imho.
Have just pre-ordered this device. Will wait to see what comes, hopefully able to unlock the bootloader and remove any bloatware that comes pre-installed.
It exist a custom rom for s2? I'd like
It has poor camera, other things are very good
What kind of custom could fix in it? Paranoid android?

Apparently it's possible to install TWRP on this Umidigi S2 :
https://www.getdroidtips.com/root-twrp-umidigi-s2-s2-pro/
I don't have Umidigi S2 to test but I'm very interested by the S2 Pro.
Perhaps it is possible to install Lenovo SNAPit Camera in order to improve the photos by flashing it with TWRP ? :

This post was a cut and paste from another phone.
Now the link for the custom recovery is available. I will probably give it a try just to be able to root the phone.
As of today, there is no available custom ROM available for the umidigi s2, although you can find posts on how to revert back to the stock ROM. Those posts are also just cut and pasted from other phones sharing the same cpu

I just tried that and while the recovery installs my phone wouldn't boot afterwards. Maybe because I have the main partition encrypted but maybe for another reason.
Also for me the screen was flipped 180 degrees probably due to a backwards display in this phone.

Still early days I wouldn't personally try it but I'm sure in time this phone will get Dev support , I had some feed back from umi on there FB page regarding update to 7/8 they said there waiting on MediaTek's to release source or sdk as this P20 chip was built around Android 6 at the time and the P25 around 7 that's why pro ships with 7 that's what they said , also mentioned an update coming with a week but more likely bug patch still on Jan 2017 security , not the best look on a 2017 phone 2015 os

Hi
Please check and correct me If I am wrong. According to UMI claimed that the first batch of S2 v1 come with non up gradable processor and hence, you can only maintain at Marshmallow version ie. Android 6 while S2 v2 (so called 2nd batch) can be upgraded to Android 7 (no idea to Android 8???). So guys, please check directly with UMI on this issue. I am thinking of getting the S2 Pro but would like UMI to confirm whether same issue with S2 v1 ???? Cheer s -

Below is the info extracted from Umidigi Forum lately .......
"Quote" They said the first batch of S2 will keep on Android 6 (there will be some updates, but nothing of update to Android 7). So the second batch of S2 and the S2 Pro will come with UMI OS Android 7. Anybody received handset with android 7.0 what date are the V2 or is that just referring to the Pro , mine is due 23/11 ordered 16/11 wondered if it will be V2 model with 7.0. Seems odd 2017 handset shipping with 2015 software .... Phone i received week ago got Android 6 so its V1. That will not work on the first v1 of Umidigi S2 sadly. It's made for MT6757D (S2 v2).
How ever there are phones out there already with MT6757 (Not MT6757D) will be on Android 7.0. "Unquote"
Hope this clear some of your thoughts. Thank you.

Mate 20X/Install Update/Unbrick - Official FunkyHuawei Thread for Mate 20X

This is the official FunkyHuawei thread for the Mate 20X.
What FunkyHuawei Supports Currently:
1. Firmware Installation / Unbricking
FunkyHuawei supports the Mate 20X for unbricking and firmware installation, but support has not yet been made public. This will be updated when it is.
2. Rebranding
Rebranding is currently not possible on the Mate 20X, even with root or unlocked bootloader. If this changes in the future, it will be updated.
Those who need to install updates and so on are welcome to contact FunkyHuawei support for help while the release of support for this model is still private.
Any other questions, feel free to ask them here.
Can you unlock the bootloader so it can be rooted?
Also, is there any difference in hardware between the 6/128 China version and the 6/128 Global version?
I see people mention google support, but how can it be impossible to install google stuff on a rooted china model?
Thanks
Hi, would these apps work on this version of the phone?

I dont believe there is any hardware difference just maybe 1 let band difference. Chinese model will get updates quicker as the main base is in China so there update that model first . Google pay etc worked fine on my Honor note 10 which came out in August, call it the smaller brother which has no global ROM .
I personally prefer Chinese model , can delete most Chinese apps fine , yes some will remain and some Chinese characters in certain parts but still prefer Chinese model

@duraaraa,
I haven't been around here much since back when we goofed around with the Mi Mix (recall I sent you one I got so you could work on it since you didn't have one). Anyways, really glad to see what you have done with FunkyHuawei and all - impressive you turned your hobby in to a business so congrats.
I am curious about buying the global from your site. I am very likely to pull the trigger for one of these soon, haven't had a Chinese phone since my Mi Mix and Mate 9 (sold the Mi Mix ultimately for being to rough around the edges in terms of software and the mid range camera but kept the Mate 9 and was pretty happy with it for a while with no real issues once setup properly). Can you give us a summary of the finer points you see as advantages to getting a global from FunkyHuawei verse just getting a Chinese version with Play store already installed?
P.S. Anyone looking for a great unlocked Note 9 with bunch of accessories and whatnot send me PM.

I think you might have mistaken me for someone else about the Mi Mix, but I did work on the Mi Mix 2. I've never actually seen a Mi Mix 1 in person
The Chinese version uses various Chinese services instead of Google Services, and some of those can't be changed. For example, for location services. For the default voice assistant. And so on.
I've heard that OK Google doesn't work on the Chinese version, while you can use it to unlock the phone on the international version, and so on.
I had thought that Chinese version wouldn't pass Safetynet, but I'm not sure. I've also heard that the Chinese version doesn't allow you to change the default launcher. The dual app feature supports whatsapp and facebook on the global version, but wechat and chinese apps on the Chinese version, and so on.
If you don't live in China, getting the global version will work out better for most people.

Certain google things can be installed on the Chinese model. But google is baked into the non-Chinese model. So things like OK Google (to wake up the phone), google assistant as default, Google used as location provider, and so on, will be available only on the international model.

As far as I know you can't unlock the bootloader or root these at present.
If 'Enable OEM Unlock' becomes select-able in developer options it would be possible.

The Mate 20 pro has green bleeding out for lack of better terms on the edges. Seems to be very common now

Have not heard anything for the Mate 20 X. The Pro has the screen supplied by LG and BOE, and most of the green-color bleeding issues are from LG. The screen of Mate 20 X is supplied by Samsung.
Hi @duraaraa. I think I'm ok sticking with Chinese version. But was wondering, in the event I'd like to change it to L29, if progress has been made on rebranding. Do you think it will be possible in the coming months. Thanks!

Where to buy "already" rooted phone?

Hi, I am just not getting it. Spent money on two phones to see if I can unlock and root them, and it is not my forte! Don't even know where to start because there is just too much information out there when I search online.
Is there anywhere I can just buy a rooted device, or pay someone to do it. Since every search on the Internet leads back to this site I thought I should ask it here. If I am in wrong section please let me know.
Thank you
As you want to root your phone, I'm assuming you know how a phone works and how to differentiate models and variants!
You can't buy an already rooted phone, as none come with it. If you want a phone that is easy to root but still good for a daily driver, you have to know the following criteria:
- Very popular brand (Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo)
- Has to have a Snapdragon processor (mediatek phones are harder to root)
- The specific device should be popular on XDA (examples include Redmi Note 8 Pro, Poco X3 Pro, most samsung S devices that have Snapdragon processors)
- Samsung S (s22, s20, s8, etc) only have Snapdragon CPUs in countries like the USA and I think China

yeah, but if you buy a oneplus don't get anything above the 8 lineup as they just get worse from there
and if you get a pixel 6 series i can't guarantee anything about that tensor chip being even bootloader unlockable

recipy for DISASTER. don't buy a pre rooted phone, who knows what keyloggers and spyware can be put alongside that root? i wouldn't risk it at all, in fact i wouldn't buy any daily driver thing from ebay outside of like a phone case
Thank you for the replies. I will keep reading and researching. I bought a Motorola G Stylus (2021) just now, and gave up on the Samsung s10e. So far I have been able to get adb and fastboot working. Reading on XDA to figure the rest out.
Very popular brands (Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Huawei, etc) tend to lock down their devices entirely. one can't just unlock bootloader from fastboot. beware of random guides, they often outdated or too broad.
before buying a device
- get confirmation that bootloader actually is unlockable (with regards to android version/carrier/branding etc)
- check community development is active (TWRP available? custom ROMs?)
you can do so by reading the proper section to device model on xda-developers
(if you can't find it, don't buy it)

about every phone is on xda, just that many don't have populated Roms and Kernels sections (ie: huaweis) so make sure it has 7-10.000 messages at least if you want a really good starting point
Nobody should buy an already rooted phone.
You should ever re-flash the full stock, format data and then, re-root the phone by YOURSELF.

Hi, do you have any specific model you can suggest? Considering the following:
I want to buy an android that I can root for sure, no matter how old it is as long as it runs Android 6 at least, I need it to be as cheap as possible, and I want to buy it in USA, compatible with T-Mobile carrier which is the one I use
I bought this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B3F9BRF9 and it was compatible with TMobile but there's no TWRP or info on how to root it, so I'm seeking for some old phone that actually works and is rooteable. I want to run some experiments but I need root access.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: I found several Samsung S7 on Ebay that could work, do you think it's a good match for rooting?

No, I don't. I only know that OnePlus Oppo Realme devices belong to bbk and are hard to unlock with fastboot disabled.

Xiaomi devices are still unlockable, but you have to follow special procedure, and it doesn't work for blacklisted devices.

what I have heared about Samsung, unlocking is not officially supported for US/Canada devices. also branded devices like cricket, verizon, etc aren't unlockable

There are channels to buy pre-rooted phones, but I assume that we are not supposed to publish these things on XDA.

Please help me with this new Note 20 Ultra 5G I got!

Veterans of XDA and Samsung mobiles, please help!
I got myself a Note 20 Ultra 5G today! The model number is shown as SM-986U/DS. I searched and one site showed it's the Exynos model, whereas CPU-Z showed that it's the Snapdragon one!
Did I just buy a fake one? Please help me to find id it is an original one! The Store I bought this from, told me that it came from US but while the phone started, it did not show any US Carrier logo (like T-Mobile, Verizone etc.)
I am attaching the screenshots of About Phone page, please advise me if I need to post any other pictures for clarification! I suppose the IMEI is not necessary, right?
Please help and thanks in advance!!!
that model is for snapdragon variant, to check if device is fake or not plug it into pc and open smart switch, this will read the device info, if it does is real if not, must be fake
Thank you!!
Please give me some time to check it and then reply!
Thanks again!

@EdwardSawhands
As mentioned by @tutibreaker, it's indeed a genuine US Snapdragon variant of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G. However, there are some points you might need to consider.
To be precise, it's a carrier model meant for Verizon, which has probably been SIM-unlocked for usage under other carriers. As you can see, the device is running on Android 12-based One UI 4.1. Without a Verizon SIM, you can't get OTA updates on it. As a result, it would be better for you to cross-flash a carrier-unlocked (i.e. SM-N986U1) firmware manually. That way, not only you can experience One UI 5 with Android 13 right now, you can also get rid of the underlying Verizon bloat and enjoy official OTA updates without messing with manual flashing jobs.
Well, thanks for pointing that out! I was really thinking why it was on Android 12 as I heard that 20 Ultra hot Android 13 and also there was no update showing...
I will take some time and read around the forum to get the cross flashing process right!
One more thing, there are actually no Verizone Bloats on the mobile. At least none thay I've found out yet. May be the guy who sim unlocked it, uninstalled all that. Anyway, I'll cross flash it once I figure out the process. Thanks again.
