Not able to boot into recovery mode - General Questions and Answers

My "Coolpad Note 3" is not booting into recovery mode after Flashing Cool ui 8 V22 Rom & TWRP Recovery. However Normally its booting absolutely fine and its quite stable Rom. But I seriously need to flash TWRP in order to install SuperSU and Xposed Installer. Anyone Please suggest any solution Asap.
(Also My Titanium Backup(Apps+Data) could only be restored after granting root access).

Did you flash the correct recovery for your model number?
Have you tried flashing the recovery again?

Yes I Have flashed the correct recovery with SP FLASH TOOL (Mtk 6753 Scatter file). It shows that it will boot into recovery mode but again screen blanks and same process repeats.

Do you know of your bootloader was unlocked before you flashed the recovery?
If it was locked then that is why it won't boot to recovery.

Yes, it's the same for all android.
adb reboot recovery
This still doesn't work if your bootloader was locked when you flashed your recovery.
If the bootloader was locked, you'll have to flash a copy of your stock recovery.
Then unlock the bootloader, then flash the recovery. It will probably work correctly then.

As I Know, Coolpad Note 3 comes with pre-unlocked bootloader. And Earlier I had TWRP installed in it with the same method. I dont think so The Bootloader was Locked as I Have flashed Cool Ui 8.....nd that was done quite easily.

Ok, if you had TWRP on it before then it isn't locked.
Did you at any point create a nandroid backup while that version of TWRP was installed? Have you tried flashing that same version of TWRP?

Yes, those are nandroid backups.
Can you flash the recovery that you used to create those backups? Or is that the same recovery that you're trying to flash now but can't get it to boot?

I dont remember the exact version of Twrp as its not officially available for my device. But ya..I had tried to flash 2-3 recovery.img 's (including the one which I flashed earlier). But no one worked...it just repeats the same process.

The device may have came with bootloader unlocked when you got it, but you flashed a stock update Cool UI 8, if that stock update came with a locked bootloader as part of the update package then your bootloader is locked now, and that would still explain why you can't flash or boot to TWRP.
Verify whether the Cool UI 8 v22 firmware itself came with an updated and locked bootloader. It has nothing to do with whether your device came with unlocked bootloader.

Ya I Have checked...Coolpad has locked bootloader for this firmvare version. What should I do now....Should I flash the earlier version of cool ui 8 or Is there any method to unlock ot manually?
(Ps: Not able to find Adb & Fastboot drivers for this device)

I'm not sure about the bootloader, I didn't find anything about unlocking bootloader for Cool UI 8 v22. Does it have a "OEM unlock" setting in system settings? If so, enable it and then see if you can flash/boot TWRP. Try fastboot with the following command:
fastboot oem unlock
But I did find something about how to root your device, if the information is correct. You might be able to root what you have then use FireFlash or Flashify to flash the Xposed Framework and get it working. You probably won't have unlocked bootloader or TWRP though.
But, you also might be able to downgrade to your previous firmware but I'm not sure if that will unlock your bootloader or not. The locked bootloader might not allow you to downgrade your firmware.

[Q] simple root/upgrade question

Hi. Been out the loop for a while and struggling to find the answer to my question.
I'm on 4.4.4 no custom revovery but with root.
I have an OTA notice to go to lollipop, which should be fine, as I have stock evetything?
How do I simply get root back afer the update?
So many posts with options, I'm struggling to find the right answer.
Unlock bootloader, and then either use cf-autoroot or flash latest SuperSU BETA through twrp.

Thanks, bootloader is already unlocked. I don't really want to install any custom recoveries, so the cf-autoroot sounds like the way to go.
Do you have a link for how to use this method?

Update 6.0 mm full tmo & skinny debloated version

6.0 Marshmallow with insecure modded kernel and TWRP recovery
This needs testing by someone else. It has been flashed on my own personal phone with no issues.
Requirements- Unlocked bootloader, Draken FX's Bootstack -the fixed version by Turbo2012 found in DrakenFX's thread for the flashable 6.0 update. Must be currently on an LG based ROM NOT CM. After install flash SuperSU install zip, post any issues. You will be able to ADB and Fastboot even if you can only boot splash screen with this kernel so you should be able to recover from almost anything multiple ways. When time allows I will put up a source built 6.0 along the lines of Game Theory's Katana ROM. Everybody is welcome to everything I post and I strongly encourage the young crowd to get involved, these phones don't support their selves.

Does that mean a fastboot oem unlock, or the OEM unlock in the developers tools. If you mean fastboot oem unlock, is that available once you flash stock MM, since it is not in LP?
PS - thank you very much for taking the time to pick this up. Back in the days of the Galaxy S1, I had a build environment setup, and a lot more knowledge (it is amazing that if you don't use it, you lose it), but I have a son now, so I don't have the time to invest in all the hobbies that I want anymore. I will definitely be a guinea pig for you. I am not actually aware of a way to brick the Metro or TMO versions of this phone since we have a kdz -- it is not possible to blow up firmware download mode.

I would prefer to be bootloader unlocked through fastboot oem unlock before doing any mods in 6.0. Every single time I did not I got secure boot error. If you make any system change on 6.0 with locked boot it will not boot.
Thank you for taking the time to do this.
:good::good:
So it's still not possible to update from Lollipop to rooted Marshmallow without unlocking the bootloader via fastboot? A secure boot error might as well be a brick to me. Oh well.

The main reason I made this was because I can never boot recovery or fastboot manually ( ex. w/hardware buttons) when you have the insecure kernel adb works when at the splash screen so it's easier to recover if you have any problems.

You only need a "soft" unlock (enable oem unlock in developer mode) to root / install TWRP on lolipop -- no PC required. MM however, requires a "hard" OEM unlock, and that requires a PC.

Yes, you have to unlock your bootloader with fastboot oem unlock. If you flash this without unlocking your bootloader you will get a secure boot error, and you will have to flash a KDZ and start all over.
Lolipop doesn't come with fastboot. So you have to follow Draken's thread to get stock MM on your device. There is NO other way. Once you have stock MM you can unlock your boot loader with fastboot. Once you have an unlocked boot loader -- THEN you can flash this if you want.
Waiting on the debloated version.

I can vouch for this. That's exactly what happened to me when I tried to flash this without unlocking the bootloader with fastboot. At least I finally managed to ship my device to LG for repairs today. I'll just chalk it up as another lesson learned.

You didn't need to ship it back to LG. Firmware download mode is always available (hold vol up while plugging in USB cable -- just vol up, not vol up + power). Continue holding vol up until FW DL mode displays). Then just use the LG flash tool to flash a KDZ. It is a PITA when you have to go back that far, but you can't brick these phones, not with software at least -- they would need to be physically altered

You sent your device in for a soft brick? You should set up the flash tool for our phone with a 10j.kdz before doing anything. Hope you get it back soon.

@runningnak3d
Flashing the KDZ seems easy enough. But how could I fix it without unrestricted access to a computer? And my stock charger is broken without a USB cable. I had no choice but to send it in for repairs. Guess I'll be stuck on Lollipop for a while longer, at least.

Can the bootloader be unlocked on the CDMA versions (ex. Boost, Sprint, Verizon)? If you can I will make a variant for it. But if you can't NO.
I just found out that the unlocked bootloader in 6.0 survives even the .kdz flashtool. So once you unlock your boot in 6.0 with fastboot oem unlock you never have to do it again even survived kdz downgrade to lollipop and update to 6.0 stayed unlocked.

So just to clarify, I have a 6045I factory global unlocked from Amazon, It has never been rooted, bootloader unlocked, nothing. Well the obvious choices are:
1) Use mobile Q to restore to 5.0.2...unlock bootloader, install twrp....upgrade to marshmallow using the modified update.zip that doesn't wipe recovery and finally root using the file mentioned.
or
2) Live with it as it is until someone figures out how to restore fastboot which will probably still require downgrading.

That's the problem. This phone is totally stock with nothing done but the update. I literally charged it, turned it on and 20 minutes later 6.0.1 was nagging for install, which I did. There is now the OEM unlock switch in developing options, but I don't know where to start, or flash.

You don't even need to decrypt if you don't want to.
Unlock Developer Options (Settings - About: tap build number until it says it's enabled)
Go to the Developer Options and enable OEM Unlocking
Unlock bootloader

Just would like to say that it's not fair to say him that in case that the second entry said: One post on xda and he wants to root!
I think the problem is the order you gave him @ante0 (MAYBE!)
Unlock bootloader
flash TWRP
And I think he now has a BIG problem bc you DIDN'T said or forced him to go into developer settings and turn on OEM-unlock!
@nawraz did you turned on OEM-unlock in developer settings?
if you boot into fastboot mode are BOTH (bootloader and FRP = unlocked (in red letters), or and I really hoper NOT is FRP lock (in green letters)???
Maybe that is now the problem for him, not being able to flash SuperSU?
If you have luck @nawraz then try to flash TWRP 3.0.2-2 and with that SuperSU2.79
If you have root then you can install latest TWRP (3.1.0-1)
If you can't flash anything... oh oh!

He already unlocked and flashed twrp.
3.1.0 installs SuperSU fine. 3.0.3 does not.
And if oem was locked he wouldn't even be in twrp as you can't flash anything with fastboot if it is locked.
But I'll update my post in case anyone does miss to unlock oem.
Hope you don't get me wrong!
Just said that bc I had that problem 5 days ago and the only thing that helped was funky!
I had a softbrick and a reboot always kicked me into eRecovery
I just had eRecovery and fastboot!
Bootloader relocked and frp locked!
Stupid me relocked the bootloader bc I read that you then can unlock oem, then unlock bootloader again!
Well, that was a mistake!

Yeah. Only way then would be to rebrand to C636 using the DLOAD method, then rebrand back to your stock version using the Update thread under Guides. The latter requires twrp though so you'd need to rebrand first to get a working system.
To be honest I just figured he had already unlocked and flashed twrp as he was in the decrypt thread
Missing oem was an error on my side. It was long since I had to unlock oem xD

Weird. I tested with 3.1.0 a few days ago. But I guess it could have to do with builds. 3.1.0 is using kernel for B182. Maybe it's fixed if you use 3.1.0 with B182.
Oh well, good you managed to install it anyway.
Edit: I tested with the SuperSU I linked.

Hi. I just happen to come across your post and noticed you said that there is no loop support pre-B182. I have the Chinese version with B213. Some apps, like Linux on Android need, unless something has changed, loop support as well as root. Do you have a reference or a link about the loop support on this phone? Thanks!

All I know is that it wasn't present in builds before B182.
@st_voss is the one who found out it was added in B182 (Kernel build April. 11th probably as that's what I have on B182.).
It might be present in B181 on C636 as well, that was released 8th of May.

which honor 6x firmware i need to use?

I need some help with my Honor 6x. I'm trying to get a solution or procedure to reset my phone. the firm where says generic _a15 when connecting it to the computer. The manager won't update it either just keeps giving me a fail error. I have tried to root it but I think since the software is wrong it's not taking the root. can anyone help or point me in the direction o what I need to do. If this has already been answered My apologies and can I get the link. thank you.
Do you have an unlocked bootloader? What's your Android version?

What command you use. You have Android 7 or 8 right now
Android 7.0 I have been using that app. That boots it into recovery then tries to flash it. I tried to get the adb cmd to work but it doesn't find the file. I know this all sounds like gibberish but that's why I'm lost.
