Its been fun. Goodbye V20. - LG V20 Guides, News, & Discussion

Well guys its been a blast. Most of you know me as the creator of DirtySanta. Some of you know me on a more personal note. Then some of you don't even know me. Those of you who have been paying attention the last couple days in either the DirtySanta Thread or those that I have been in close contact with will know what this is about. I bricked my v20(again) but this time it somehow damaged the hardware itself. Lately you will have noticed that alot of major Devs have either moved on or have been thinking about moving on. @SaintZ93 and @Team DevDigitel have moved on. If I remember correctly @Chaz187 is also close to then end of their runs with the v20. As for me, this is my last goodbye. As of this post i will be ceasing all support for DirtySanta(support from me atleast, most of the questions asked these days are repeats) and any project for the v20 that I have released or have been working on(PA).
However... I will not be leaving the scene altogether. I will be going over to the S8+ forums.
I will also leave any hosted files I currently have up for dirtysanta alone. There will be no further updates for dirtysanta(not like there were anyway) and I will be leaving you guys with a parting gift: The secret to restoring a non kdz device back to stock.
I take no responsibility for your device and I WILL NOT provide any support for this.
To revert a non kdz device back to stock you need the following 3 things: Your abootbackup.img made during the dirtysanta process, Your bootbackup.img made during the dirtysanta process and the final item is an untouched matching [REDACTED].
Once again Thanks to everyone in the v20 community. Things could have gone better at times but I think you guys will survive with out me.
EDIT: Since people really wanna know. you need matching abootbackup.img, bootbackup.img and matching untouched system.img

This is the end of Sprint development! Kinda sucks!

For sure

Thanks for the amazing exploit, enjoy the s8

I can't fault you moving on. And I appreciate everything you've done for us. I'm going to keep my v20 until the screen falls off because of the swappable battery thing. At least I have root (thanks to you) and when stable xposed gets to working, I'll be good for awhile. Thanks again and enjoy that s8+.

All your hard work is acknowledged & very much appreciated. You're the primary reason this phone is fun at all (no root = no fun).
I hope we find a method to safely unbrick (bloody LG) so you can hold on to it in the future & remember the glory days spent here.
Enjoy your new toy

Thx for all your help.
Just wonder if s8+ got rooted?

I think you're leaving too early.. Sure, the v20 is going to be obsolete soon, but at the moment the v20 is really cheap, an amazing bargain for a great phone.
The opportunities for making interesting custom ROMs is really taking off, especially with the H990DS being rooted.
Sure, get an S8 but get another v20 and make the most of the great work done on it

How do you think development is just taking off when rhe ones responsible for development are saying sayonara? They arent leaving early.
You arrived late.

You worked so hard to do what u did for us theres nothing i can say so sum it up in words we had our run ins im threads but i wish u the best of luck for all u did im eteranlly grateful to u and all the awsome devs here u made a cool phone better

Well my replacement is coming in 7-10 days lol. I dont doubt it comes back on zv8 and a sure way to make sure i dont provide more updates. They killed my device lol so off to the moto z force i go. Im very thankful for the new friendships and team work this device brought to us, as well a new amount of knowledge was obtained through a crazy transition from su to magisk, the whole lg specifics, and just making things work for a great group of people. it was fun. DevDigitel Roms have been closed as of this morning. Thanks everyone!

You guys are awesome, thanks for the efforts you put forth and all that assistance you give.
Looking on the bright side of things, the small level of development isn't necessarily a bad thing for the V20. It has so many awesome features already, what is something that is so needed that requires extensive development? Sure, we can always try out new features. But lets look at the past, where the development community basically made a phone usable between extending battery life or adding features that should have already been there.
The entire scenario of development for phones has changed in my opinion. Take with a grain of salt, im no dev just a mooch that has been here for many many years. But seems in the past, development was a MUST. Now, honestly, I wouldn't be devastated if my phone was bone stock. But with that said, I sure do appreciate the additional features you guys have developed.
Another thing, replacing phones themselves and upgrading has changed. Honestly, I don't want a phone that doesn't have a headphone jack or removable battery. So going to hang on to this one as long as possible! Where beforehand, new phone brought features we WANT not DREAD.
Best of luck to you guys in the future!

Yep thank you 2151, I learned a lot and still have a ton left to learn, but I definately appreciate all you've done for the v20, I have a love/hate relationship with mine. I love the audio and hardware quality, but there wasn't much easy about modding the thing, as a novice anyway. Felt like smashing mine a few times. I know you veteran's get frustrated with people asking questions noobs should be able to find in the forums, but if ur trying to learn it can be tough to find the exact info you need to know, and there is so much to learn. Just saying in general anyway, not u specifically. I see a lot of guys getting chewed out on here, some deservedly, some not Imo. Samsung pretty much lost my business for the crap they released last year, note7 and a 10" pos tablet where the touchscreen didn't work right and they weren't gonna replace, I'm Lg from now on I think. If they stick to what they've been doing anyway, we'll see.

I'll be switching to the S8+ soon as I can afford it or the Note 8 .

I don't think we've met, but I wanna say thanks for your hard work, and all the other devs involved in the V20 here. I just ordered one because I needed a new phone (problems with current), my son's V20 impressed me, and most importantly, it can be rooted! I've rooted every Android device I've personally owned, and won't buy one that can't be rooted. I just can't stomach being told I can't access files on my SD card, can't block annoying ads, can't remove annoying bloatware, etc.
I know I'm late to the party, but the upside will hopefully be that you guys have worked out all the kinks. Thanks again, and enjoy the S8+!

Rave: New Phone

This evening I picked up my new HTC Fuze - I'm thrilled!
After a good deal of grief with starting a new AT&T plan with my girlfriend I managed to get my new toy! I rarely will consider taking advice from employees at chain stores but after two visits at Best Buy I was actually very impressed.
On the first visit we were only looking at phones for my girlfriend and I wanted to see if they had any htc touch demo models. After talking to an associate about my interest in android (assuming he would be clueless) he gave me a pleasant surprise in describing the differences between carriers, limitations, status of android port and lots of other things. I've been reading the xda-developers and howard forums for a few weeks now but was still a little gun shy because I didn't feel like I got the whole picture (I'm a knowledge control freak - if I don't feel like I *really* know what i'm talking about - I'm extremely hesitant..). Anyway - he unintentionally convinced me that I wanted the htc fuze with AT&T. But he wasn't actually trying to sell it to me (yea yea.. i know thats the best sales tactic) - he was actually just as interested in android and pda hacking as most of the people here are.
On the second visit - after I had some of my current cell plan issues worked out - we returned to best buy and started a new plan. We worked with some different employees that were equally considerate and gave us the blunt truth about differences in insurance and other things. Sure - they were doing there job - but I never felt like they were jumping on us trying to get us in and out the door.
Anyway - I'm usually a cynic when it comes to chain stores, sales people and cell phone companies in general - but now I would actually recommend Best Buy when looking at a new cell plan or cell phone related questions in general.
Now - on to the hacking and tweaking! I'm gonna try to go a week without any major mods then hopefully I can me functional member of this forum!
P.S. Again - if this is the wrong forum to post in I apologize - I'll try to get with the program. I was just a little over excited and wanted to share with everyone.
P.S.S. And no - I don't work for Best Buy!
-Keith
You'll want to check out the rom section. Lots of good 6.5 roms, PLEASE read the "flashing your rom for the first time" before you download one.

Yep - definitely will. I can't really afford to brick my phone.. I'll be reading half a dozen tutorials and probably asking a few questions before I dive in.

well, i read the forum for 3 days after getting my phone(used, $180, but still, it's expensive)
the main thing is to flash HardSPL... after that, it's really hard to brick the phone

I couldn't wait a week. Just flash a new ROM and Radio asap. You won't regret it. Try the one in my signature.
Just make sure you read the tutorial on flashing ROMs before you start.

Thumbs up on the RRE rom!
He just updated on the 27th to a newer version, which is even faster than the 921 version. Flashed it this afternoon. They just get better and better!

WOW - this is NOT the tweet I wanted to read...

Kmobs just tweeted this: "So.... looks like I don't have a mytouch 4g anymore... ups says delivered... and there is nothing at my door. Fml"
No - I wish I could say I'm joking - but I'm not...
I wonder what the impact on us getting CM is going to be...
Kmobs already had a MT4G, so i am not really sure what UPS was delivering
He just posted an update, "Guys the mytouch I have now I bought full price and am going to remorse. Got it early to work on for you. the other was cheap and is gone."
Yeah, I'm a bit confused as well.

I bought a full price mytouch to work on (and then remorse) as my cheap one came from my friend. The cheap one was supposed to be delivered today but nothing came to my door. I have to return the mytouch I currently have in my possession to T-Mobile.
I'm going to contact UPS tomorrow.
I'd be willing to make a donation to help replace it - I don't have a lot but if it would help?
Thank you for the offer, but I really don't want to accept money. I plan on moving on when the Nexus S comes out so I do not feel it would be fair.
Looks like I'll be sending this phone back tomorrow. Seems this phone is not gonna get to much love from the devs.

This is exactly the kind of crap that's bringing these forums down. A handful of devs make stuff for a phone, and thousands of people follow. Nobody is willing to do anything for themselves anymore. So you're going to return your phone(which is a fantastic phone by the way), because somebody isn't going to make themes and there won't be a bajillion different roms available?
I first started with xda back in the day when I had my t-mobile SDA. I got ahold of an mda with a then unreleased WM6 rom from a microsoft mvp and I uploaded it to xda. I made a few windows mobile roms for myself and shared them in the forums. And I modified some apk's in the nexus one forums. I don't just 'know' how to do this stuff. I learned it because I wanted to. I didn't wait for somebody to give me what I want. I did it for myself, and then I shared.
This is how it used to be at xda. Now it's just 'gimme gimme gimme'.

It's not even that for me, it's more that daunting feeling that something newer and better will come out shortly and I might regret not having waited. I'm not saying the Nexus S will be better, but it's intriguing enough that part of me thinks I should at least give it a try. No harm in comparing right? That's how I decided between the G2 and MT4G and boy am I glad I didn't settle for the G2. I realize how unsustainable and dissatisfying this attitude is since there will always be something "bigger and better" right around the corner, just can't help it

I'm not at all pissed. I'm sad. I'm sad that a forum that was once full of people willing to contribute is now full of people that are 'too busy'. Last week, I worked just under 50 hours, painted my kitchen, replaced the counter-tops, installed a new sink, faucet, and garbage disposal, painted the cabinets, pulled the motor from my motorcycle, cleaned the gutters, raked and mowed my lawn(last time for the season), picked up my 3 girls every day(like I do every day), made dinner every night(wife doesn't get home til after 6)....and guess what? I STILL found time to pull apart rosie.apk and started modifying xml's because people are getting excited now that the mytouch is rooted and I wanted to contribute.
You are NOT too busy. I can assure you of that.
Well, for me, I'm gonna tough it out...

Ya I hear you there. I get like that sometimes. But mainly because I just like gadgets. I bought the nexus one while I was watching their press release. I pressed the refresh button in my browser until the order page went live.
I too got the g2 when it came out, while it was a great device, I found that I didn't need the keyboard, and the added thickness that comes with it. So I traded it in for the mytouch.
The problem with these devices is that they're not THAT different from each other. They all have this or that little feature, but it's all the same underlying hardware. 1ghz cpu, bunch of ram, hd recording...blah blah blah. It gets old after a while. If my company didn't take over my phone contract and pay for my upgrade, I would have gladly kept my nexus one. To this day, it's still my favorite phone. It's just so damn solid.
The mytouch is similar in form, but without all the metal of the nexus, it's just not the same. Anyways, I forgot the point I was trying to make, but we have to tell my girls this all the time "you get what you get, and you don't get upset". You picked that device for a reason, now ride that ***** 'til the wheels fall off!
just my 2 cents i personally feel if cyanogen isnt handling the rom for the phone it never seems to get done the right way look at the vibrant i still think devs will make roms for it no disrespect to anyone..

I'm thinking of starting to mod this device, just not sure where to start looking for information. I've never messed with it much before, it's been years since I've done any programming and I've pretty much forgotten everything. But, I'm always willing to learn new things
Kmobs had a working CM6 besides camera and a couple of other features on his MT4G... it should all get sorted out and we will get CM6. Instead of complaining and resorting to another phone because it was out earlier and has CM6 already... Why not actually contribute by helping trying to work and mod the phone you picked and for that reason.

Returning a phone because one dev hasn't done anything with it yet in the barely-two weeks its been out? Seems a little extreme, lol

[Q] CALLING ALL DEVS OF NEXUS S (question)

Oh ye mighty coders I who know nothing but simple adb commands beseech thee for an answer:
Will thou's mighty coding fingers be working on the Sprint Nexus S?
This keeps me up many sleepless hours for I must pay a heavy price indeed to purchase my S .... full retail. So if the support of those that go blind on a computer screen to make my phone slightly better isn't there.... I'll probably go with that ugly brick that can ... the Evo . Thanks in advance .. I need to know cause I know it'd take some effort kernel wise and even whole drivers may be different so this would take more time development wise even on existing Roms right?
Thanks all hope I didnt bother too bad and I appreciate the feedback (in advance)
Anonamoose
(P.S. I wish I would've just kept my HeroC and not got an Optimus then I wouldn't have to pay full retail on my phone but wish in one hand crap in the other....)

1000 Posts: A Thank You

Well, this is my 1000th post on XDA and at the time or writing I have 504 thanks. I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone in this community that I have grown so much from.
When I got my first smartphone in January 2012 I was only slightly familiar with the idea of rooting and modifications. When deciding what phone to buy, I never really looked for how good it was for development, but settled on the Atrix 2 due to its relatively good stats, and low price. For about a month I did nothing, not waning to kill my warranty. around March I decided to root my phone, more for the hell of it than anything else. it went smoothly although my heart was beating faster than I thought possible during the process as I watched my precious phone reboot in the hands of an unknown script claiming to give me further access to the phones internals.
After this I screwed around for a bit with some mods, but nothing serious. Some time around April I decided to install a custom rom. I spent hours googling and learning how to do it without breaking anything, then meticulously followed the guide to install SCV5, what seemed like the best rom at the time. All went well and I enjoyed my new look and feel for a while, until a new rom appeared that I wanted to try. Confident of my abilities, I was slightly less careful, and somehow ended up soft bricking my phone. I had a minor panic attack, but after a few hours of reading guides and asking questions I was able to fxz back to stock and get to the new Lithium rom.
I didn't start doing any development work until about a year ago, when I began tweaking some roms and building my own mods. I bootlooped countless times and became fully capable of recovering in my sleep within a short period of time. In June or July ICS began to hit and the kind helpful forums I had grown familiar turned more into a flame war filled hell hole. This truly made me sad as I tried to expand my dev knowledge working around the huge amount of disrespect and carelessness that filled our community. This slowly became better and I can safely say now that the community has become its old self again.
The point here is that I have learned more from this community than probably anything else I have done in my life. I have now helped multiple people with installing custom roms, and have written a few mods, a few apps, and worked on building android from source (albeit not very successfully).
I am especially thankful to @jimbridgman, @rdavisct, @JRW 28, @alteredlikeness, @cogeary and anyone else I forgot that ran this place before I appeared, and helped me out when I needed it without killing me for asking so may questions.
Thank you all and I hope the new-found love for this phone continues and we can continue to improve our device with the best in software and hardware hacks.
Your post is a great example of what XDA is about. It is also a great example of what people in here can do when they put their mind to something and do not go off half cocked or not reading and understanding before doing.
It is great to have you here, and you have contributed a good bit to this community, as well. Thank You!
Oh yeah I remember my 1000th post, it was one of those ill gotten ICS arguments that caused hell around here... so enjoy yours!

How old are you lkrasner if you don't mind me asking? I actually envy you, because you've come so far is so little time. I actually wanted to get into dev'ing myself after I installed my first custom rom (HTC Aria), however I must have had delusions of grandeur, I never made it past building from source and I was overwhelmed. I must've gotten a lot dumber in my old age (almost 29), I just can't grasp new things like I could when I was younger.

Well, I'll say I'm quite a bit younger than that! It just takes trial and error. I have a lot of trouble with source too, there is so much for android. I would recommend app development. learning java is pretty straight forward, and you can sure get a lot out of it. Android apps are pretty much pure java with added android libraries, so if you learn it, you can apply your knowledge to programming for computers too. There are plenty of online resources to help you learn, and lots of books. If you really want to get good quick, you could always pay some money and take an online class from a university of something.

I think it's inspiring to see someone that has come so far on such a short amount of time, regardless of age. I'm impressed. Well done.
Brought to you by time and relative dimensions in space.
edit: nothing here .
My story is very similar... This was also my first smartphone in January 2012, and those same people mentioned in the OP were a big influence, help, and encouragement - (including @lfaber06 (though I came after his presence), the young jedi @lkrasner, other forum members, and, of course, my wife )
But I am not juggling schoolwork anymore like some of these younger guys here.. Just job, family, life, etc.. or in a different order... And then I lost it all because of Android.. just joking.. Not yet at least :\
Also, I remember JRW 28 once told me how, for him, things would just start "clicking" and making sense.. And then, with a lot of research and trial and error, I just kept hearing those clicks and making connections.. Or was continuously looking for them. And here we are.
Another thing is that you learn something better when you show others how to do it.. And that's what these forums are for - learning, helping, and contributing.
Btw, I have no idea what my 1000th post was..

Yeah, you came after me and somehow came out ahead. I remember talking some when you were first here, and I was still more experienced. Then, to be honest, I was even a little mad when you became better than me. LOL. anyways, congratulations, as you have done some damn good work for us around here.
Well if everyone else is confessing...
Then bless me xda for I had sinned...
I joined xda-developers on 22 September 2012(had to check my profile for this) and I was more of a noob than anyone.Atrix 2 was(infact is)my first smartphone experience. And as my first post I posted in two different forums(or maybe it was three) with a simple problem of soft brick. A few guys(@41rw4lker @devilhunter47 and some others too) came to my rescue and some others came down harsh on me but I got my phone unbricked.A wonderful feeling that was.
Ever since I've been searching, digging, experimenting and consequently learning in the process and the more I learned the more I had respect for this site and the work done by individuals in it.So I began giving that little of my knowledge gained back to the community.I started small with sharing some links.Telling people about the solutions I had read somewhere.
And this kept on growing till one day I bricked my phone again and at that time there was no tested solution for Atrix 2 to unbrick. Then tcf posted a very shady method and I decided what the hell let's give it a try and after some mind boggling and help from the wizards of Atrix 2 @alteredlikeness @jimbridgman) I became the first one to unbrick Atrix 2 at that time.So that was another level of joy. That gave me the boost to really try out things and help other since then I've tried my best to help out and the story goes on...
As far as the big players go they were @rdavisct @alteredlikeness @jimbridgmansome others too @lkrasner @Apex_strider were among the senior members who seemed to know the answer to every query. This community has always been the helping one as i've seen how hard the noobs are trolled at other forums.
But my extended thanks goes out to @alteredlikeness coz he has always been the support which I(and if i'm correct many others)could just trust to fall back to.He's always had my back.If it weren't for how patiently he hears the problem and how simple he makes them sound i'd still be thinking twice before rooting or flashing a ROM.
Well I can say that i've grown from a noob to a Recognized Noob now thanks to all you guys...
And when I saw this thread I was on the brink of my 1000 post and was determined to post here but then someone threw me a problem and I guess I forgot that I had to save up for here and ended up assisting someone in unbricking his phone.
And yeah i'm still stuck with studies

May the -Mass times Acceleration-be with You...
I wanted this to be my 500th post if not the 1000th.. Well as all others said here, mine too has been a real fun ride.. The Atrix 2 is my 1st android.. Two days after I bought it, I rooted it (though I had no idea what rooting was exactly.. ).. A few more days went by and I seriously screwed my device up.. I was damn lucky as the FXZ were released just 2 days ago! Watched quite a lot of youtube videos on how to use RSD Lite.. Now that I think about it, I realize how easy that was.. still, It was a no risk ( where I live, we do not get devices on contract. payed 23K INR or about 460$..) So I finally tried FXZing and it so happened, the webtop image (grfs.img) of the Searet was corrupt or so.. It always used to fail at that point.. now I could feel my blood pumping.. Quite scary.. Just when I thought things couldnt get worse, LOW BATTERY! Nature really has a way to say "Challenge Accepted" doesn't it? Well did the McGyuver method.. Used an adapter instead of a micro.. and this time I just opened up the xml file and deleted the line with the webtop image.. Flashed.. And VOILA! IT BOOTED UP!!:laugh: Well that was my first Hackery I guess..
Well, back in those days this forum was a volcano! Very volatile.. There used to be hell lot of flamewars.. And I just happened to fall into a nasty one.. So I pretty much made myself scarce around here.. Used to read a lot and try things out myself.. I did quite a lot of things trying to crack the bootloader.. Hard bricked my device trying.. Luckily I still had warranty for a month left.. And got it fixed.. The mother board was replaced and it turned out to be a boon in disguise.. It came back with a 1.2GHz processor instead of the original 1GHz.. I did find some interesting things regarding the bootloader though.. But not enough..
An year later, things had changed quite a bit and I started appearing again.. It so happened, some asked for a rom that was a mix up of pa, cm and aokp.. And @alteredlikeness mentioned about Pac.. Well, I took it up.. Special thanks to alteredlikeness for guiding me with my first source built rom.. Well, once I got pac booting, there was nothing holding me back from trying more things out.. I then started looking into the Razr forums.. Started trying the kexec roms.. well, my cid got wiped of course.. But I had my backup.. Well, the razr's cm-10.1 did actually boot up once.. Then didn't the next time.. It was quite confusing.. Well this was the "great blank screen issue" lol.. Then again, time went by.. Things got better..
My thanks to everyone from this forum.. specially @alteredlikeness.. I am kinda addicted to XDA now..
Thanks Guys

I was hoping people had forgotten that. Especially now that I don't even have an Atrix 2.

General Nameless seems to have returned. Let's not have a repeat of last time. Read comments, ask for help, be respectful and thankful.

Ultra Mega Edit... Edit: Nameless appears to be back. As to not have a repeat of last time, I am going to say something that most of you will reply to with "yeah, duh."
If you need help with any ROM (and you read all the comments) just ask in the thread of said project. SO many great people here are always willing to help others. Just be respectful.
Remember, maintainers aren't in this for the money (but please feel free to donate to the projects you feel bring value to your life) so keep that in mind, if you ever feel like you are losing your composure/ ability to act like an adult.
You can criticize respectfully and disagree respectfully, but there's never a need to be rude here. We're all here for the same reason and lucky to have so many developers offering us options beyond OOS.
Even if you donate, that doesn't give you the right to treat anyone like they "owe you." People like that are the same type of jerks that treat service industry employees sub-par (and everyone thinks people that do that are a-holes, don't make anyone think you are an a-hole.)
Now let's all kiss and enjoy all the wonderful ROM options in the OP9 scene at this moment.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: this isn't a call-out to harass ANYONE. it's just a ROM. let's just talk like adults? Yeah?
Also, added photos in case it gets nuked or buried by newer posts and hard to find.
Lastly, This is no judgement against staff doing what a user requested with their own thread.
In the end, The Maintainer can do or decide not to do whatever they feel.

I guess this can be a place for current Nameless OS users can come and discuss their potential replacements or any assistance they may need.
I updated both back to back OTA's last night and it seems to be functional, but with him more concerned about closing the thread and having it locked than any communication on why, I fear there may be issues that suggest anyone on nameless should get on anything else ASAP.
loved the ROM but this move is a little beyond the pale.
As for ROM replacements, I havent a clue. I am not looking into it today. My only "must have" is Google Phone with AI call screening. I recently found a moded apk install of it that doesn't even require a magisk module or messing with google services cache.
I have to scan it with hybrid analysis, virus total and maybe look through Alien Vault to assure its safe. After that, I would be more than happy sharing its info here.
I also know i dont want to go back to OOS or just Lineage itself. I see several options and will definitely be checking them out on a less busy day.
Hope everyone is doing well.
Part of the messages and one of the reasons, for anyone wondering.
Some people just can't hold it back. There was an issue with a build that made some people factory reset, setup their device again, so they got angry, directly in the dev's chat...Bo-ho.

So just newer people complaining about how the information about C62 requirement was handled?
I agree, the information could have been communicated a bit better BUT, there was at least a month long/5 pages of people discussing it, helping with precise requirements and details to assure a functional deployment.
I even wrote a whole how to based on the information smarter people helped me figure out in previous posts.
in the end, the person was doing us a favor for free, and they probably felt they were being preached to and complained at more than thanked / tipped.
I see both sides, but hope everyone agrees Chandu has never and will never owe us anything, regardless how the ending of support makes you feel. If anything, I fear this community, including myself, should have tried to show more appreciation and bring up concerns a little more elegantly. Maybe I'm wrong on that, but it's what I feel at this moment.
Thanks for the insight @ekin_strops
At least i wasn't ignored. Insulted, but not ignored. Gotta look on the bright side.
im on CrDroid, lets you manage your own GApps with Nik. you will need to flash 3 newer btfo, vendor_boot and vendor images, but its pretty easy.
Just follow the how-to.
It's disappointing. I was so excited to see new updates for this ROM. Since it was the only one for the 9 that has a lot of customization..
I'm going to wait on this ROM for a month or two before trying something else.. I just hope the 9 isn't dead for custom ROM scene because I bought this phone purely for modding purposes. Might have to go back to my OnePlus nord.
Ill preface this by saying, they didn't owe us anything and can do whatever they please, but with that being said, they had subpar communication skills regarding updates and the requirements to carry them out. if it wernt for other users, i wouldn't have got up and running.
Also the last build had serious issues with locking/unlocking and battery drain issues. Before the comment from ekin above, i really bet on them just quitting for being way over their head. Not technically, they are obviously more than capable and very much so, at that. i mean work load.
that paired with his temper tantrum fueled rage-quitting and calling a whole community "stupid retards" its fair to say users are better off on relying on something more stable (OS and Developer wise)
best rom out there is now gone
Such a shame really as it really was one of the best roms I tried along with CrDroid. I'm glad I'm not on it anymore. I had nothing but issues with the 62 firmware and had to go back to OOS. Luckily my apps were backed up via Swift Backup. I couldn't get any help myself.
Glad that I went back to OOS because it would suck to have to switch ROMs again. Honestly I understand why the dev got ticked off, it is ungrateful people like that which keep me from really diving into development (as I already had to deal with it with another community where I made the mistake of getting involved), but I mean I didn't really see anything all that bad, just some people expressing their frustration at having to reset their devices. It's a time consuming process and I would have had to vent somewhere about it too. What's more likely is that this is something that has been building up for awhile with 9 users and that was the straw that broke the camel's back.

if he would have made it clear to the userbase that his main support was OP9pro because that was the phone he and that OP9, im confident he wouldnt have got his feelsing hurt so much.
Hell, Im sure users would have volunteered to assist on testing with theirs.
****, if I knew that, I would have just followed the nameless pro thread , reported errors with the pretense and understanding he doesn't even have the same device to test on and people would have had. amkre "take it or leave it" approach. .
Instead. He built both while only having the means to test/dev properly for one and didnt feel that was information. The users might have benfieted from knowing about.
But again, that goes right back to poor communication skills. We got release notes and then not much else.
The thread is up, people can go see how little is there, how he didn't make it clear he wasnt even OP9 user, which is just Rich.
I'm sorry, but to go this long with a consistant issue commuicating important details and then rage quit when people ask for a little release etiquette is low. all he had to do was comminicate the facts of the situation, it makes his rage quit and childish name calling all that more pathetic.
This is how custom ROM development has always been. A new android version is released, and a lot of time is spent getting it to boot, then ironing out the issues and fixing bugs, features get ported / merged over from the previous android version, new bugs crop up, those get worked on, and right around the time it's almost perfect, a new android version drops, and the process starts over. Sometimes the cycle doesn't even make it that far and the next android version gets moved onto before the last versions issues got fixed. A custom rom will almost always have some small issue / quirk / bug that hasn't gotten worked out yet. This is also part of what makes it fun to me. I'm altering the way the device was intended to operate by the manufacturer many times against their wishes. That's why they typically try to prevent it. We're on the cutting edge, and dealing with the issues is part of it. I don't believe making 12L custom ROMs rock solid is going to happen, A13 is right there. It probably won't be long and we'll be running A13 ROMs, and y'all can whine about that. Resetting the phone has always been a part of this, sometimes unforseen, so have measures in place to prevent data loss.
Hey @applyscience, I am not sure if this thread is the best to ask you this.
I noticed you have been testing basically every ROM for our beloved OP9 and you ended up on PEX as the best all-around ROM so far.
My question is, I just noticed on the StagOS thread that the files had been updated but no comments from the DEV on that nor any mention on the OP9 on the official StagOS website doesn't even mention it.
Did you end up testing StagOS too?
I am a bit skeptical about testing the ROM because I can't find any further information on the development state of this ROM.

I am currently on stag is 13 beta.
Came from pixel experience 12.1 crdroid and stag seem to be the best maintained on oneplus9 right now.
Stag 13 is barebones (hence beta) but its solid. Just lacks a little customization options, nothing bad for my use. Its honestly very impressive work by the maintainer
I took the 13 route because every 12.1 ROM had battery issues for me, even with debloating and kernel tweaks.
Have only been on 13 for half a day so I can't say, but the A13 added features makes me concerned it won't be a huge difference with battery.
Either way, I would def check stag or crdroid
Has anyone successfuly dirty flashed any other rom over nameless? I understand that it's not "advisable" and you won't get any support. But has any one successfuly booted an other rom over nameless?
derpfest, nameless, oneplus 9 just seems like the phone that attracts ragequitters

Nameless came from derp, probably the same scene/people. Spent a few days as a lurker on the TGs and feel its honestly for the best that the bandid was ripped off sooner than later.
StagOS is killing it, on the 13 beta now and loving it. CrDroid is even keeping up with updates.
Both sides are better off now, I hope. I know OP9 is.

If the maintainer is still blind building OP9 off only having OP Pro, I'll just sit it out and monitor the situation.
Android 13 is screwy enough as is seeing as its in beta but its an enjoyable venture (and if hes still on A 12, which is probably a good idea, Im kinda hooked on A 13s process.)
Either way, great news. I'm just cautious.
Nameless was still the best until near the stoppage, would.love to see it rise back up to that point.

i know, ive never downplayed his abilities or know how, the only criticism i ever have was how he quit last time and the lack of communication. That being said, NamelessOS was (i guess is? i don't have the latest yet) the best ROM and it was due to the decisions, additions and know how of the maintainer.
I mean, heck, Why do ya think I made this thread? Because losing Nameless meant something to me, as it did to a lot of us. Im just a "once bitten, twice shy" type of person. I hope its around for a while so I can move back to it and be stable and content again.
