I had this issue as well. Happened to me twice now. Started to install some apps I had. Problem hasn't come back yet. Don't know if it's app related or not.

I actually had a similar issue, but within the Samsung Video Player itself. When I would play any video, the screen would kind of flicker on/off or have horizontal lines on it. That started about the time I was playing with a Miracast receiver. Didn't have any issues with any other video player. The video player had also started giving me a message like, "cannot play while on call" or something. Clearing RAM/Apps fixed that. But it took a reboot to resolve the video player issue.
I've noticed that occasionally when recording video, I get bars down the screen, just random strips of colour. This appears in the recorded video too, not just while filming.
I haven't read about anyone else with the same issue, it seems to happen completely randomly but quite frequently. I think it happens on different video qualities too.
Is this fixable, is it a softeare/hardware problem?
This is what it looks like:

Anyone?
I can't be the only one with this?
Bump
I have something similar when recording 1080p 60fps slow motion videos. It appears in the first seconds.
I also tried 720p 120fps and 1080p/4k in timelapse mode, and these modes doesn't have this problem. Will check if this issue is present in other video modes.

Same for me... It happens only using HFR modes and only in the first seconds...
I tested different modes and these stripes appears only on 60fps mode both 720p and 1080p. It looks more like a software issue to me

I've barely had my phone, only 4 days and I have the same issue. On all video modes, and different apps. It's similar to a rendering error you can get in Final Cut if you have dodgy graphics drivers.
Very annoying, and sometimes during recording the video crashes, and the camera suddenly can't be accessed until I reboot the phone.
Ya, i'm getting this issue as well, it works fine on a few modes, and it's only for the first second or two.
I can confirm this issue too. It's only in the first few seconds and using the stock camera app on CM11S. I took a slow motion video too and the same thing happened. Doesn't happen if I record a video using google camera though so I think it must be something with the stock ROM/camera.
This doesn't seem to be a common problem, so i wonder if it's hardware..... I hope not.
Hi guys, have the same problem [email protected] and [email protected] It is look like some autofocus problems.
One more thing: what setting of autofocus u guys use for normal speed video? Cause i discover that on auto focus camera wont change focus itself, i have to touch the screen.
Same problem, only in HFR modes....
Yeah HFR only in 1080p for me. 720p is fine

It's hardware.
this just happens after you install lots of apps. A fresh and wiped install doesnt happens.
Inside the chinese oppo forums is full of this nightmares. Oppo quality is a S#@$T...
Same for me in all kinds of apps...reboot usually fixes the problem...i doubt its a hardware problem...
This happens only if use "Continuous video" mode for the Focus mode. This does not seem to happen when using the "Auto" mode.
The same happens for me with CM13.1 and even in photo mode
I think I have read somewhere that those lines have something to do with the CM camera HALs. Maybe switching to ROM (like Sultans) may help.
Hi,
I have a HTC One E8 dual sim. The current firmware is 4.4.2.
I am facing issues with the video camera. Whenever i try to take a video, and click on the video camera button, there is just a blip on the screen but the video capture doesn't start. Even if i press the button again and again, the same thing happens. If i restart my phone, and then try to capture a video, it captures the video fine. But some time after the restart if i again go to the camera and switch to video camera and try to record, nothing happens.
Can anyone help me out with this issue?

Check in the video settings to see where they are being stored. In case its storing on the SD Card, it might be an issue with the card itself
Hi,
It is getting saved in the SD card, but i have recently installed a new SD card and the issue remains the same.
I tried changing the default save location to phone memory, but the issue remains.

Same happened with me after I installed Google now launcher and kept Google now voice detection 'ON' from any screen,I don't know how it affects ,but surprisingly it does, just uninstall latest Google search and see if the video recording works.

Thanks, I had same problem and it started working after I turned off voice detection from any screen.
When I go into my gallery and click a video from the grid of photos and videos, it starts playing the video without the audio (even before I press play) and loops it as like an auto-generated preview of the video. Then, when I press play, it actually plays the video and audio together and shows the entirety of the clip.
How do I disable this? It's slow and glitchy and dumb. I want the clip to play when I click it, not just the video sans audio. And, to boot, it makes everything about 2-3 times slower to click and load due to a hitch/lag when you actually want it to play the clip.
I'm also experiencing a weird lag in the video player that I think might be a bug.
As I noted in the OP, when I open a video from the grid, it "previews" with white borders. If I click the play button in the center, my screen goes completely black for 1 second, then the video comes back, but this time with white borders, and then actually starts playing. So, I get like a 1.5-2 second lag between when I click the play button and when the video plays.
Does anyone else have this issue? I'm going to try turning video enhancer off and see what happens.

this stops the next video from playing. however, as EYC has mentioned - it's the looping of the video with the white bars that's the issue. my wife has the s7 and it doesn't display this behavior....

Does yours also temporarily go to a fully black screen when you hit the play button, causing the video to hitch between pressing play and it actually playing? That's what I find most irritating.

mine does exactly that. the fact that the video auto loops too drives me insane.
As a workaround to the stock gallery's wonky video player, I'm using Google Photos (which has its own built-in video player).
One of the cool things about Google Photos is you can access it directly from within the camera app. There's a setting called "Camera shortcut" within Photos, which overlays a shortcut thumbnail onto the camera. You can press and drag this thumbnail shortcut anywhere you want - you can even place it on top of the stock gallery thumbnail if you want. After you shoot a video or take a picture, the little thumbnail pops up and you can jump directly to Photos to watch the video or whatever.
Rather than use the work around suggested by Henrybravo, has anyone actually managed to find the toggle box to turn off auto play on the current selected video in Gallery? I have exactly the same issue as eyc and kdfdawg and it's driving me nuts!

This is not the issue! The problem is with Gallery, not Video Player. I've already turned off auto play next. I want to stop Gallery doing the silly silent looping video preview. There seems to be no setting to control this. I think it's a new "feature" in Gallery, and is really annoying. I have an S7 edge running Oreo.

Go into gallery app settings, go to "about gallery", where it says "version xxx.x.xxx.x" tap that seven times. Press back and there should then be "gallery labs" at the very bottom. Go in there, disable "video preview on picture list" close the app (make sure it's closed properly through "recent" then open gallery again and it should no longer show video previews!!
Samsung Gallery used to be good years ago.
Today it sucks. Try a 3rd party app like Gallery.
If anyone has a better freeware/ad free Gallery app,
please post it

Anyone having Video Playback issues like on youtube or Videos from whatsapp.. Few seconds into playing the videos the video gets stuck and quickly the audio and video goes out of sync. Am i the only one with this issue or there are other people too ? if i see more people having this issue i will reach out to HTC.. else will do a warranty replacement for mine.
Note- Phone is not rooted, so no magisk module is present to cause this problem
Update- Sorry forgot to update this info, I had reached out to HTC and as per them one should try clearing app cache and restart. I did clear the cache using various methods including by booting into recovery, that seemed to fix the problem for sometime, though this kept coming back.
I've watched a bunch of YouTube videos since my U11 arrived 1.5 weeks ago and never had this problem at all. Never watched WhatsApp videos yet, as I don't get those very often.

Thanks for your reply, seem like an issue just for me(Unless other people also report the same), will probably need replacement.
The Facebook app has crashed for me several times when trying to play video, not every time though. Haven't had any problems with Youtube or VLC.
All of this sounds like software issues in my opinion, personally I would try first to clear data/cache of all apps affected, uninstalling app updates and reinstalling them and also a factory reset before going for a replacement.

According to HTC the solution is to go to Recovery mode and wipe cache partition, it worked for me.
Here is what i did and the below excerpt is taken from HTC's link which they sent me
With the phone powered off, follow these steps:
Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button while powering the phone on.
Continue to hold the VOLUME DOWN button until the Bootloader screen is displayed.
Press the VOLUME DOWN button until Recovery is selected. Press the POWER button to select.
The phone will appear to reboot and the screen will appear black for 15-30 seconds. When the recovery screen is displayed, follow these steps:
Hold VOLUME UP button and then press and release POWER.
Press the VOLUME DOWN button repeatedly until wipe cache partition is highlighted on the screen.
Press the POWER button to select.
Press the VOLUME UP button repeatedly after the process completes
Press the POWER button to select reboot system. The phone will reboot normally.

Just to chime in, mine lagged and skipped frames and was it was obvious when it happened. I just forward and rewind the video and everything went back normal. Will apply the fix if it becomes persistent.
Thanks for the cache wipe solution, do let us know if your video playback has anymore problem after a while after applying this fix.

Turns out the sound mod I had installed may had been the cause of my lip sync issue. It was the Viper4Android magisk module.

I have EXACTLY this issue, has been like it since I received the phone and before installing any of my own apps. It seems a little intermittent as doesn't happen on ALL videos or streams but does on most, including videos take by the phone itself - really irritating - it's not the app I'm playing back on either as it happens on all three apps installed.
Did you resolve this with the cache clearing method? I would be interested to know if it worked before obliterating my app data.
Clearing the cache partition solved the lip sync issue for me. I didn't notice it before on YouTube. Maybe it was after today's maintenance update, but I can't be sure. Anyway, it's ok now.
I also have this problem.
U11 with 6gb/128gb. I have the problem when I use Google photos to play a video shot with the camera.
If I use VLC to play the video, no problem.
It's quite annoying.
Same issue here. I play videos from websites such as news websites and the sync is terrible. I will try clearing the cache partition and see if there is any difference. It already been factory reset!
I just wanted to chime in that I'm getting the same issue. I'm going to try the cache clearing and I'll let you know if it works. All video tends to be behind by 2-5 seconds, which makes anything beyond music playback impossible.
I think the VLC app may be the culprit here.... I deleted it after I noticed a post here that mentioned it and so far it seems to be working.

I was having this issue too and it drove me nuts. It only started happening recently so I traced my steps and figured out what i did that caused it.
It was the Magisk Module that fixes 60fps video recording and slow motion video for the GCam. Removed that module and instantly YouTube was back to normal.
Hope this helps a few people.

Nope.
I also noticed that in some recorded videos, the sounds ends sooner than the video.
