Lines in Video - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've noticed that occasionally when recording video, I get bars down the screen, just random strips of colour. This appears in the recorded video too, not just while filming.
I haven't read about anyone else with the same issue, it seems to happen completely randomly but quite frequently. I think it happens on different video qualities too.
Is this fixable, is it a softeare/hardware problem?
This is what it looks like:

Anyone?

I can't be the only one with this?

Bump

I have something similar when recording 1080p 60fps slow motion videos. It appears in the first seconds.
I also tried 720p 120fps and 1080p/4k in timelapse mode, and these modes doesn't have this problem. Will check if this issue is present in other video modes.

Same for me... It happens only using HFR modes and only in the first seconds...

I tested different modes and these stripes appears only on 60fps mode both 720p and 1080p. It looks more like a software issue to me

I've barely had my phone, only 4 days and I have the same issue. On all video modes, and different apps. It's similar to a rendering error you can get in Final Cut if you have dodgy graphics drivers.
Very annoying, and sometimes during recording the video crashes, and the camera suddenly can't be accessed until I reboot the phone.

Ya, i'm getting this issue as well, it works fine on a few modes, and it's only for the first second or two.

I can confirm this issue too. It's only in the first few seconds and using the stock camera app on CM11S. I took a slow motion video too and the same thing happened. Doesn't happen if I record a video using google camera though so I think it must be something with the stock ROM/camera.

This doesn't seem to be a common problem, so i wonder if it's hardware..... I hope not.

Hi guys, have the same problem [email protected] and [email protected] It is look like some autofocus problems.
One more thing: what setting of autofocus u guys use for normal speed video? Cause i discover that on auto focus camera wont change focus itself, i have to touch the screen.

Same problem, only in HFR modes....

Yeah HFR only in 1080p for me. 720p is fine

It's hardware.
this just happens after you install lots of apps. A fresh and wiped install doesnt happens.
Inside the chinese oppo forums is full of this nightmares. Oppo quality is a S#@$T...

Same for me in all kinds of apps...reboot usually fixes the problem...i doubt its a hardware problem...

This happens only if use "Continuous video" mode for the Focus mode. This does not seem to happen when using the "Auto" mode.

The same happens for me with CM13.1 and even in photo mode

I think I have read somewhere that those lines have something to do with the CM camera HALs. Maybe switching to ROM (like Sultans) may help.

Camera Autofocus

Does anyone else have issues with the camera consistently auto focusing when recording video? It makes this constant clicking noise when recording. It's really bad on Snapchat. It doesn't even record for the full ten seconds or whatever... This seems to happen on every CM ROM that I have ever used...Is it just me, or does it happen to others?
I'm on Temasek 5.9

I have exact issue, in snap and in stock camera. I am on stock room.

This happened to me when I went to my daughters Christmas Play and recorded it at the time I didn't know but when I got home and watched the video I seen that the video was ruined from it auto focusing so much
So I started digging around in the settings of both the camera and video recorder to see if I could fix it I only had to change 2 settings to get it to work right
1st I went into camera settings and changed Focus Mode mine was set to Continuous by default so I changed it to Auto
2nd I went into video settings and in there is a setting for Video stabilization it was unchecked so I checked it and that's it
Now all my videos are great try these settings out and see if they work for you I hope they do because they worked for me

Strange camera artifacts

Hi guys,
Although I'm pretty happy with camera on Galaxy S6 in general I noticed that some photos have some noticeable artifacts. What could cause it? JPEG processing? Faulty sensor? When I try to re-create them they later on, they don't appear. Also sometimes when I enter in the camera app I have 2 sec of a graphical wobbliness and then it goes to normal, also when I try to purposely to recreate this bug/issue I have no success. Has somebody encountered this issue as well?

I have the 2 seconds of graphical wobbliness. The camera also make noises when that happens. Try opening the camera with rotation lock and in all possible angles, it's very easy to recreate the problem like thag
Don't worry
that's just lens settling up

Pixel 2 slow motion not working

Apologies if this is in the wrong section.
Hi all. I received my brand new pixel 2 on Saturday and absolutely loving it. I was messing around with the camera in 240fps and everything was working fine.
On Sunday the camera had an update, I decided to get some more 240fps footage but playing back the videos the slow motion isn't working, it's not triggering the slow motion. I notice that the blue video play bar at the bottom isn't moving either so it doesn't know when to trigger the slow motion.
The video still plays just not in slow motion.
Is there a fix for this?

What do you play it back using? There is a part of the video that is normal motion but most of it should be slow motion. You can also adjust the slow motion amount using Google photos

Did you ever get this to work?
Getting the exact same behaviour here. It's strange - it sometimes works - if you reboot the phone, take the video and immediately edit it to move the slo-mo markers, it usually works. But if you exit the camera and go into the Photos app to edit it, the time slider at the bottom is stuck at 0:00 and never moves. I reckon this is a genuine bug in the app.
I have a theory:
A) The playback rate must be tied to the time slider and the slider isn't moving - hence the failure to enter slow motion mode.
B) If this issue is occurring, if you manually move the time slider into the slo-mo area - immediately the entire video plays in slow motion.
I only got the device 4 days ago and my excitement has been severely dampened by this.
Hi,
I am facing the same issue. All works good for 120fps slow motion playback.when it comes for 240fps the playback scroll bar is stuck at 0:00 & video keeps playing in normal mode for whole part(even the part which has been set to play as slowmo)

Auto rotate animation stuttering

Anyone noticing this? This is most noticeable when watching a youtube video. Doesn't matter if it's 60 or 120hz. Not sure how to describe it but it's just like when you're playing a game then suddenly the FPS drops like the performance is being throttled. It's just not smooth as it was like on my Redmi note 4x or poco f1.
I thought the first system update yesterday resolved it but apparently it's still there. I'm also noticing this when scrolling through previous apps but not as noticeable as the auto rotate animation.
Yes, same problem here. Seems like it drops till 60hz when is rotating.

Actually, fps and refresh rate drops to 30 after a few seconds of not touching the screen. This causes the not so fluid animation when you rotate the screen.
Edit: Did some testing and seems like it only happens in YouTube app(vance/official) once you play the video. It doesn't happen when playing videos in gallery or google photos
Another bug....
I can't seem to get auto rotation to work at all actually. Anyone else having this issue? I'm on the latest version of the software, and auto rotation button is blue in drop down, and selected in the menu.

I've tried both ways, with various applications, and it doesn't seem to rotate. Youtube and VLC just now as an example.

Inexplicably starred working a few hours later. Must have seen that I was ready to wipe the phone. ?
dont see much shuttering but my auto rotate is way to senstitive

It also happens on official YouTube and other apps such as the Vivaldi browser
no problems with stuttering in vanced/youtube or alltogether, however its very sensitive, tilting the phone a little often rotates it.
My poco x3 rotate screen when is flat on the table - how I can fix this annoying issue ?

Question Is it normal that my camera flickers on videos when the lighting level changes ? Does it happen on you too ?

It's not happening because of the lamps above, it happens on natural lighting too. It happens when camera focuses to a new area where the lighting level is different. Is this a defect, or is it the same for everyone ?
Here are 2 example videos:
It's really weird because it doesn't happen on the photo mode or on other apps when i'm taking a video, it only happens in the camera app video section. It happens on auto fps mode too. I tried taking videos with other phones on the same condition, and they just focus normally without that weird flicker. Is this a software issue or is my camera defective ?
Would be happy if y'all can help, thank you.

Already a Thread here:
Video Flickering at 60fps
Anyone else notice this? I did find a small thread on Samsung.com so not sure if its a hardware issue or if all of them have it. -...
forum.xda-developers.com
@hyelton check this, the exact same problem. Hope it's not a hardware problem and they fix it with an update
Yep same issue here. Glad I'm not the only one to notice the issue

Do you think it's a software problem ? Wish other people checked this and reported here too. Did you report it to Samsung ?
Does it happen if the camera is held in the proper orientation, i.e. landscape? Portrait mode should never be used for video capture. Hopefully in the future *all* phones will properly capture video in landscape mode regardless if the user holds it vertically or not!

What about a different camera app? I use Filmic Pro and have never seen this.
If I did, it would definitely raise cause for alarm!

Orientation and auto fps doesn't matter, it still happens. My post also says it doesn't happen on other apps.
I'm so happy to say that May update I just received (S908EXXU2AVDA) fixed this problem. Can you check if it's fixed for you too ? @hyelton I tried every specific condition that it flickered before and it doesn't flicker anymore, made me happy that it wasn't a hardware problem and they were aware of the issue.
Does it happen with adaptive refresh rate?
Because some apps flicker when this is turned on.

No, it was happening on 60fps video shooting, it's not about 120hz. It got fixed with the May update.
