Should I root or wait for O to drop? - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

If I do root for that matter, would I lose root upon updating to O? and will I even be able to update to O if I am rooted?

Wait

[Q] Rooting and still getting ota updates

Hello, sorry if this has been asked but I can't find the answer anywhere. Is it possible to root my note 10.1 and still get OTA updates and it will still keep root. Also what are some benefits that you will get for rooting on this device. I used to have a Asus Transformer and I was able to root it and still have OTA updates and it would stay rooted.
I think that the benefits of root are in the Apps that requires root.
Some examples:
*Gesture control
*multiwindow manager
*spen control

You can be rooted and still get ota updates by keeping stock recovery. Updates will most likely remove root but as long as they don't lock the bootloader you will always be able to root again. Easily.

Go to sammobile.com and use ODIN or Mobile ODIN to flash updates/rom...
You need official in download mode and official in status is order to get ota. I was rooted with official status in both areas but certain apps trigger the custom mode. I did triangle away to get official in download mode but you need to do a reset to rid the custom in status... and I cant be bothered to set mine up again so havent done it.
Search for triangle away in the store.

Question about updates

Hello everyone, I have a rooted note 2 with basically stock everything, when I download the official update 4.3 comes out, will I lose root? And can I download the update if I have root?
Sent From Note 2 Using Minuum Keyboard
If you didn't disable OTA updates, then it should download automatically. And yes, you will lose root, but it shouldn't be to hard to root again.
Hope this helped

This is great , but if we flash a new Rom, will Knox then be tripped?
I think knox is tripped with rooting. And there is a new root method out already without tripping knox

Yes this only allows root access without trip. As soon as you flash a recovery or ROM then it will trip it

CSC
I have a N9005TMHBMI1 CSC and there is no CSC like this in the thread. What should I do now? (I am new in XDA so I cant post and request in the root de la vega thread).
Is there any way to do this with a Mac?
*#1234# doesn't work.
Any idea why or how to get that info other way? I'm using an EU unbranded Note 3.
Care to show what else one would do after rooting their phone for newbies please? Meaning no rom, just what one can expect and achieve after mere rooting only. Thanks.
Great guide!
Awesome guide!

I'm not trying to be funny, but you have 251 posts and you don't know he purpose of rooting?
Rooting your phone gives you admin rights, just like having admin access on a computer. One of the main purposes is exactly that. With root access (admin rights) you have complete access to the system. You have access to the entire filesystem. You can run apps that require extra privileges. Basically.. You have FULL control of a piece of equipment that you paid good money for.
Sure, being able to update the Roms are great, but some of us do it because 'we can', some of us do it because we want to be able to run anything we want to.
Again, I am not trying to be rude or funny.. I am just not sure if you are serious or if you were being funny?
thanks, done with my 9005 without knox trigger

I heard downgrade was possible with the developer edition. I've searched but haven't found instructions or advice on how to do this...any thoughts by folks smarter than myself.

you CAN downgrade on the DE, bootloader remains on KK though. It also is not necessary to downgrade a DE to get root on KitKat as the rooting process is the same as if you were on JB.
So, does this mean the root process is the same if the boot loader is unlocked? If that's the case, that'd make my month!

If your boot loader is unlocked then the root process is the same whether on JB or KK. Just install twrp reboot recovery and reboot system. Install root when it asks

ROOT OTA Updates

Hi,
If rooted do we still get updates from google? or you have to stay updated via the ROM's update?
Thanks
Of your talking apps then yes, if your talking the OS, you shouldn't. But if somehow is ask to update, pass on it, it will unroot your phone
