[Resolved] Need to get pictures off internal storage encrypted sd - General Questions and Answers

Hey everyone
So my other half recently had an android device with the micro sd set as internal storage
The phone has broken down on her and now I can’t seem to get the photos off the sd card
There are loads of photos on there from our first holiday and such so I was wondering if there is any way to get them back.
I have got the phone up and running again but it won’t read the SD

Also she didn’t have a google account linked at the time (she used aptoode)

If encrypted, it means you have a password. Then, if rooted, use an app like Disk Digger, to get your photos back. If...

[Q] How to change camera save location - CM7

When I purchased this phone it saved all new photos to the internal memory, this is what I wanted. The phone did not come with an external sd card and the camera worked just fine without one.
Now that I have installed CM7 (which I really like) my phone only wants to save to the sd card and gives the message "Please insert an SD card before using the camera" when I go to take a photo - preventing me from taking any photos at all. I want the photos to be saved internally. I do not want to have to have an sd card in the device for the camera to work. How do I change it back to save to internal memory? I cannot find a setting for storage preference anywhere.
If this has been answered elsewhere I apologize. Please point me in the right direction.

Pics erased from moving to SD Card

Hi everyone. First time poster hoping to get some guidance. I was moving all of my photos to my SD Card via the Gallery to free up space on my Verizon Note 3.....900+ photos....during the transfer I accidentally pressed the home button and for whatever reason the phone rebooted..
Once it started up all of the photos were gone. Also the storage on my device has about 7gb more space now. I've tried some cursory research to attempt recovery but from what I've foind it helps if you don't take photos before trying to restore....well I've needed to take photos since then.
Is there any saving these? Thanks all.

SD card died in Moto X Pure, combined with system, any way to get the pictures off?

The SD card in my wife's Moto X Pure died this morning (phone is saying there is no card connected). When we first put the card in we picked the option that had the phone simply use the card as additional memory in the phone, rather than keeping the card as a separate entity where you would need to drag files. She thought that google was backing up all of her photos (including almost all of our baby photos), but when we went to recover them nothing had been backed up since we got the phone erasing 95% of the baby photos
I tried to simply take the card out and put it back in, but that didn't get me anywhere. I did a recovery on the card using disk digger and it found two very small DST files titled "Sector 420728" and "Sector 39189795," but neither one of them could be opened. The phone says that it is saving the data of the card (and keeps asking me to reinsert it), and she only had a few hundred pictures on the phone, not nearly enough to fill it up the space on the phone, so my guess is that the pictures are still on the phone but it can't access them.
I have thought about trying to copy the DST files over to another SD card and inserting that seeing if it gives the correct pathing to find the photos, but I don't know how to format it correctly originally and even if I did, if that will do more harm then good.
Anyone have any idea how to recover the pictures?

SD card formatted as internal memory, migrated files -now unable to sync w. Exchange

Hi,
as my wife's A9 was running out of space (use it for music and so on) I buyed a Sandisk 64GB extreme class 10 SD card and formatted it as internal memory some weeks ago. All was fine, but when the "real" internal memory was full she was unable to load up more content, but get the message that some files can be migrated to the extra memory (also via USB just the real space on the phone was shown). She choose "yes" of course and some things were migrated. But later she get a sync error message regarding the Exchange server mail account. Unfortunately the message is just in the preview shown, if I tap on it it disappears and it brings the account settings onto the screen -and the is just the exclamation mark shown that there is a problem....
I think it's a problem with the Exchange security settings which says, device have to be able wiped remote and encryption of device and storage card. The last point is in my opinion the thing which case the problem -it is encrypted by Android itself because it's formatted as internal memory, and because of that it can't be encrypted a second time as storage card.
Did anyone knows this problem? How can I get this working?

Is it possible to retrieve data from SD Card that was formatted as internal storage?

Android Version: 8.0
Root: No.
I use my phone mostly to recieve A LOT of work documents, photos, audio, etc via whatsapp.
So, i thought in get a SD card and format it as internal storage, since what i need is just a lot of storage to save as much data as possible, not gaming or anything of the sort.
The issue is, since it's formatted as internal storage, connect phone to PC via USB won't let me see the content and i have no way to transfer from PC to phone OR from phone to PC.
I want to know how to transfer whatsapp photos/documents/audio/etc on a phone with SD card formatted as internal storage to a PC (without dropbox, google drive or other cloud service, since this is work data it's a big no-no to use cloud sharing), or if it's just not possible. Same if it's possible to send files from PC to phone.
Don't know. If you can't directly access it and use recovery software instead it will make a mess of the data ie no file structure. (Edit, see post below.)
In the future don't use it as internal memory, it's too slow for one thing especially write speeds.
Apps, DCIM and download folders go on internal.
All critical data goes on the SD card. The DCIM folder data is regularly transferred to the SD card but never name that SD card folder DCIM.
The SD card is then redundantly and regularly backed up to at least 2 hdds that are physically and electronically isolated from each other and the PC.
@Flonne
While adopting a storage, whether an SD card or USB drive, Android formats and changes it’s FAT32 or exFAT format to ext4 or f2fs.
With Adoptable Storage, Android encrypts the external SD card or USB drive being used as internal storage, thus, it gets tied to a specific Android device. The key used to encrypt the data on the SD card is stored on the Android device’s internal memory. So, it is NOT possible to mount the adopted storage to another device because of its encrypted nature.
The adopted storage becomes an extension to Android's internal /data partion what at any time can get accessed from PC.
I broke my screen and when I connected to pc through adb i was hoping to access the sdcard. it was formatted as internal, i didnt know better at the time.
somehow it got factory reset and i didnt know. ordered new screen and booted up and it was reset ahhh. memory card says needs formatting. phone has lineage and is or can be rooted and phone works fine.
in this case, is there any way to access the sdcard ?
thanks.

If it was factory reset then the encryption keys were lost. Not retrievable.
thanks for the reply. i will stop crying and move on. i like closure.

It sucks. I've lost a 30 yo database that was irreplaceable. Just play time in the hurt locker...
Always backup critical data redundantly and regularly to at least 2 hdds that are physically and electronically isolated from each other and the PC. Never encrypt data drives.
yah i try but was motorbiking in baja mexico for a month and lost all the pics and all my text messages. nothing critical like an old db but still lots of fun memories ... im old and need pics to remember
but everything went wrong. i think i recently updated the phone with lineage and when i came back adb wasnt authorized anymore so i couldnt access the phone for data copy. usb-c to hdmi didnt work... could have been so simple if things just worked ... android has become as frustrating as my one and only iphone 3g . thanks again.

You can always carry two .5tb OTG flashsticks for backup. Not as reliable as hdds but much better than nothing.
Generally unencrypted SD cards are very reliable if not removed from the device. Sometimes important lessons come at a high cost.
