Wifi hotspot security options - Samsung Galaxy J7 Questions & Answers

I hosted a hotspot to connect an old device of mine, and I realized I can only choose between WPA-2 PSK security and an open connection. I think I need WEP for this device to connect. My phone is rooted. Is there anything I can do?

Tethering via Wifi and Encryption

I have the tethering working fine. However, I am concerned about having an open connection (even with mac filtering enabled). My question is this. The connection between the computer and the g1 is an ad-hoc network. The g1 supports wpa and wep so why can't the tethered connection use encryption?

[Q] Unable to tether after Ad-Hoc fix

I am unfortunately unable to post a reply within the original thread with this fix as it is in the Development forum. So here it is..
I have applied the wpa_supplicant fix from this thread:

I can now see Ad-hoc networks but when trying to connect to it I am stuck at Obtaining IP Address.
Connecting to Infrastructure networks works fine. Other devices can connect to my Ad-Hoc network. But the Xoom will not obtain an IP Address.
I have tried setting static IP and using open DNS options such as Google's DNS servers but that doesn't work either.
I am using a canadian wi-fi only xoom. I have updated to the most recent US Xoom, Wi-Fi only firmware from Motorola and used this method for the root and unlock:

I am trying to tether to a Samsung i5700 that is rooted using WiFi Tether or Barnacle. Both do the same thing.
I've also tried bluetooth tethering but the two devices will pair but not connect.
Mine does that too where it will hang on Obtaining IP address just make sure your phone is on meaning the screen is on (showing wifi tether.) For some reason it can run but not connect very well while the screen is off. Don't know why this is, but it's been only a minor inconvenience.
Even with the phone screen on, showing the wifi tether screen it doesn't connect. And when I assign a static IP address Wifi Tether never notifies that a client has connected.

Connect to a WPA2 Enterprise WiFi network

Hi,
at work the WiFi network uses EAP authentification (with a certificate). Is there any way I can connect to this network? Will it be possible with Mango?
Thx for your help
Sent from my LG-E900 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Okay, I'm no Wi-Fi expert but I was able to connect to my school network (which I think was WPA2 Enterprise) by entering my domain login credentials and then accepting a certificate. It has worked since the NoDo update.
I have a similar problem here: university wifi with a wpa2/AES-enterprise network and only a certificate to connect to...
If I try to connect the phone asks me username and password (the domain credentials?), but I don't know them.
More info about the network here:
3*w. wifi. polimi. it/en
I need to connect to "Polimi Protected" and "Eduroam"
Samsung Omnia W with software 7.10 (7740)
Thank you
My personal (home) connection is WPA2 Enterprise / AES2 WIFI setup.
and my phone can connect just fine, stats below.

[Q] Can't connect to Open WiFi hotspots

Hi All,
I have to OTA KitKat 4.4.4. running on my Nexus 5 and I can't connect to any Open WiFi hotspots.
That is ones that do not have any security set.
I have even not been able to connect to Netgear DGN1000 with it's OOTB settings of SSID: NETGEAR and no security.
Any thoughts...
Are you getting an error message? Do these open networks perhaps have MAC ID filtering?

No error message, and MAC filtering should not be on where I first tried as it was a public wifi hotspot.
I have since removed all stored profiles and then re-booted, as per instructions elsewhere. Since then I can connect to the guest network on my dd-wrt powered router, so I think that have helped.
Not been near a public wifi hotspot since, will report back when I do.

Gear S2 Wifi Authentication

Am I completely missing something here? Why can I not get my watch on our wifi network. It requires authentication. But if I make sure that bluetooth is enabled. It scans the network and I can see it. However if I try to connect it tells me authentication errors. But I can not find a single spot to add login or password or any authentication option. Only options to connect to wifi are AKA and SIM.. How the heck do I get this thing on a wifi network??
Try disconnecting from Bluetooth and allow your phone to locate your wireless network. You should now be prompted for SSID and password. I personally had a hard time entering a complex password as part of WPA2 requirements. So I enabled WPS on my router and used it to connect my S2 fairly quickly. Furthermore, I don't believe it will use Wifi as long as you are connected to the phone via bluetooth. It can switch to wifi if you are out of the range of bluetooth or choose to use the watch in standalone mode.
Sync your saved wifi information from your Samsung account to your watch. It will log into the wifi network. I had the same problem and after syncing with my phone's saved wifi info it says it's logged in but it will not transfer any data on that wifi network.
Works fine on my home network that only requires a password, but I want it to work everywhere I can connect to wifi with my phone.
Haven't found a solution yet.
