Can I easily migrate & keep my Nexus One settings & data & apps to Nexus S?
Hi, I have a Nexus One running CM7, rooted.
If I switch to a Nexus S, can I easily migrate everything across. I really hate having to start from scratch with all my elaborate settings, apps, data, etc.
Any way I can do this as easily as upgrading iPhones allows?
And can I root the Nexus S to allow it?

No. Not possible as far as I know...
Also how are you flashing CM7 on your NS if your NOT ROOTED?? (I'm referring to your "and can I root the Nexus S to allow it" comment...
You might've misread. I said I have a Nexus ONE currently, which is rooted.
Want to know if the Nexus 'S' can be rooted.
In theory, if I root the S, then install CM7, why couldn't I transfer my internal data of my Nexus ONE CM7 to the Nexus S CM7? It's the same OS.

No I understood you perfectly. When you root the NS and unlock the bootloader your phone will be wiped. When you install cm7 you will have to set everything up from scratch.
It's NOT the same. They have the same name..THAT'S IT. EVERYTHING ELSE IS DIFFERENT!
Don't phrase your questions in a way that lead to the first comment I left and you won't run into comments like mine oh and FYI I also have BOTH THE NEXUS ONE AND THE NEXUS S SO I'M SPEAKING, FROM, EXPERIENCE
Your apps are synced to your Google account. They will sync up after you sign in to your new phone with your Google account. It will bring over apps, wallpaper, and a few settings like WiFi networks and passwords. App data like what level of Angry Birds you are on will not carry over.

I'm confused though because apps like MyBackup Pro claim to be able to migrate ALL your data between different versions of Android.
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
Nexus S can be rooted quite easily, there are a number of guides in the Android Development section of the forums.
As for transferring everything I'm doubtful, but what is it exactly that you need to transfer? Apps come automatically from sync, contacts as well, and photos and music you can just copy over.
I'm talking about all my customized settings for many many apps, and ringtones, home screens, widgets, alarms, dictionary, ringtones for contacts, website passwords, Car Home screens, that sort of thing.
Any backup program that can migrate these from the One to the S?
I'm pretty sure migrating your apps is as easy as using something like titanium backup and then simply copying all the backups onto your computer and then transfering it to your nexus s when you get it. You can simply run a restore of your non system apps. Not sure if you'll have problems restoring all your data, maybe you might run into some problems there, but at least you won't be starting from scratch.
As for ringtones/wallpapers etc, just move em over.. and it honestly doesn't take that long to set up widgets and set up your homescreens.
I know apps and such are backed up through Google, but some had to be re-installed. There are a few things you might have to do, but not much.

Would this work?
Nandroid backup your Nexus One setup.
Flash CM7 on Nexus S.
Transfer Nexus One Nandroid to Nexus S.
Advance restore Data only.

not sure that would work.
but what WOULD work i think, just use titanium backup on your n1. backup all user and system apps. then take that SD card which contains all the backed up data, copy it to your nexus s mass memory. install cm7, then restore using titanium backup. user data should restore no problem.
Think I read something in Titanium Backup"s latest changelog about "reorganization of app data between different devices" . You might want to look into this.
i also moved from n1. once logged in with the same google acc most apps installed to my new ns automatically except those downloaded from other sources, that have to be done manually. and i use tb to recover old app data and settings.
Thanks (almost) everyone!
Let's try to keep all Q&A's for this tablet in one thread for now. Wonder if I should drop tips here too?
Autocreates junk files
ONE folder gets filled with junk files which renders the entire tablet almost unusable. I can't even delete the files.
All I can do is to shut down the tablet, connect the SD to a pc and backup all files, EXCEPT the backup folder as it's corrupted.
My tablet is running on Android 4.1.x (it DOES say "x" in the phone info) stock rom with root access.
It's ONLY folders called something with "Backup", like "Backups" and "TitaniumBackup" that have been affected so far.
It's also only the folder with that name on my EXTERNAL SD that's affected.
Several virus scans have been performed which came up clean.
I even wiped the entire unit including System/data/cache, also to no avail.
This issue happens MORE than once per day. The tablet gets very sluggish, and the files are there.
I found out that when I did NOT have a folder with "backup" in it, then it runs for days with no issues.
Note that I also have a phone (LG Optimus 2X) which have NO problems. The phone uses a rooted Android 4.2.2 custom rom.
I attached a dual screenshot showing a clean folder and one full of junk. Note dates for creation.
Anyone have any ideas as to what causes it?
Further testing shows that other folders are ALSO affected, but ONLY folders containing Titanium Backup Pro backup files.
Even more testing shows that even if I try to use a sub-sub folder, then it still happens.
I even tried using a folder name containing spaces and danish national letters:
"/mnt/external_sd/Titanium/Sikkerhedskopier/Håber at denne mappe virker/"
Still get the junk files, as seen on the screenshot.
Note the reported size and date of the files.
Dates seem very random, and although all file managers shows the SDCard is almost empty,
then the files put together adds up to much more than the 16GB the card is in size. So something is NOT right.
I have also noted that I can delete SOME of them with Root Explorer, but as soon as I do a refresh then new files are already made.
Logcat only shows files deleted, but not added.
I could REALLY use some help with this.
FURTHER testing shows the files are ONLY created when Titanium Backup Pro is set to do regular backups, so I am beginning to suspect it's a combination of my tablet AND Titanium that is the cause.
I have noticed my tablet kills the menu at what to ME is random intervals.
It doesn't matter if I even USE the tablet, just as long as it's on.
Anyone have an idea what might be the cause and maybe how to fix it?
I have attached an alogcat file, from a point where it happened.
I WANTED to attach it, but it seems like I am not allowed... can't even use smilies????
Managed to attach the logcat that failed the other day.
Must admit that I an beginning to wonder if I just write for my self, or somebody is actually READING this?

Odd thing is that when I don't set Titanium Backup schedule then I don't get junk files.
But the tablet still write protect the SD card at random intervals. Even when Titanium Backup isn't installed.

TIP!
How to add GPS functionality to the tablet using an Android phone:
1. Download "Bluetooth GPS" from Google Play to the tablet.
2. Download "GPS over BT" from Google Play to the phone.
3. Pair the two devices.
4. Start up the programs and connect from the tablet to the phone.
This has been tested with a 4.2.3 phone and a 4.1.x tablet.

Thanks for the quick reply, but I believe we are talking/looking at 2 different versions of the same thing though. Probably same hardware with just a little bit different versions of firmware/software. Odys/Xelio. I don't have mine in hand yet, should have sometime next week and will defiantly let you know how it goes when I get it, still learning the Android OS, have had a Nexus 7 for a little over a year now, and a HTC Evo 4G LTE for some months now, so this tablet was purchased just for the 10" screen for reading and have sold my Nexus waiting for the 7-2 (STILL)..
I had links to both, but still can't post URL's yet, sorry
Eh what were you thinking about then, when talking about Google Play Store?
I want to help when I can
Update: Early morning here so...
It's not the Xelio10Pro you are getting?
Sent from my Xelio10Pro using xda app-developers app
Well, I got it yesterday sideloaded the Play Store and several other apps & apk's with no issues, it seems to be a very light a sleek little tablet with no bloatware at all, I really want to like this tablet but the LCD screen is just awful. I really wish I could adjust contrast or something more then just brightness, the glossy face on it and the res just make it really hard to read or look at any sort of pictures, to just read text isn't bad but with pics it just has such a glare and brightness it's just weird to explain. I had already ordered some generic 10.1" tablet screen protectors and they should be here in a few days, so I am really hoping that they are a little bit matte and it'll help or fix the glare issue as I really want to like this tablet.
I know how you feel.
I generally have issues with the touch sensitivity, but have gotten used to it now.
I also noticed the reflection from the screen, which is pretty bad. Makes the tablet useless in sunlight. Hope you can give some good news on that when you get the cover.
It IS good as an ebook reader as long as your surroundings isn't too bright.
I also think it is quite powerful, considering the price.

I have been in contact with Odys support with a few questions.
They told me that they will NOT update the tablet. Not even to 4.2.2. They claim it requires too much of the hardware,
even though I told them I have a phone with only one fourth the memory of the tablet and a smaller CPU running 4.2.2 smoothly.
It seems like they have decided to solve all problems with a standard answer: reflash the stock firmware.
They even told me to do that AFTER I told them I already tried that.
Sent from my Xelio10Pro using xda app-developers app
I decided NOT to use my external SD card after the last two restores to factory default (including full flash of factory firmware).
First time after that restore, I installed Titanium Backup Pro, and set up a schedule as always.
This resulted in my INTERNAL SD card became read-only.
Only way to fix that was another firmware flash.
I then decided NOT to install Titanium Backup Pro again.
The tablet has been working perfectly ever since.

First, thanks a lot for your monologue
And no, you're not the only person with this tablet. And this was the only place where I found firmware... thanks so much for uploading this, helped me a lot as I nearly bricked my tab while rooting it. Now after flashing it with the new FW, everything works smooth again And this without contacting Odys, and late on a saturday night, perfect, made my day!
Btw., I have the same issue with the huge Titanium Backup folder... :/
Now that I know that I am not alone, then I have this to say:
You are all welcome to post your experiences with this tablet (both good and bad)

Well, my wife went and dropped her Nexus 5 today. Screen is a total mess. Seems appropriate that Google has a free replacement policy for Nexus 5 phones (special terms apply - and luckily are met in this case). Her phone is rooted and TWRP is installed.
Here is my question: Can I simply do a full image backup and store to external SD storage (may I take the time to recommend the Meenova card reader?), and after receiving, rooting, and installing TWRP on the refurbished replacement phone, restore the image backup?
It would seem like the easiest way to go about things, but because it seems so easy, I'm naturally sceptical there is some hidden "gotcha" that prevents this option (Phone serial numbers, or some other device specific data that won't translate well).
Any thoughts would be helpful, as we will need to get the wheels rolling on the replacement quickly.
Thank you in advance,
Eric "GuitarEC"

Hey I'm really glad Samsung found out these phones have a problem. But I got my phone working smooth as silk and they say I got to give it back. This is the my first android phone that I haven't rooted (5th phone). Which means no way to use Titanium Backup. So I'm back to my backup pro and maybe Samsung backup who or whatever will get the job done. Now if Best Buy let me take my replacement home so I could use Smart switch that would be great. But this is not a perfect world which is why I have to return my wonderful phone.
So my question is how are you going to set your new notes backup? Do you have an easy way for doing this or are you getting something else. NOT!! Share your thoughts.
This might not answer your question but what im planning to do it start fresh. I dont like backups. All my game data are saved with google account. My contacts are in google account also. Ill download the rest of the programs from play store and start fresh. I dont care about text messages. I dont need to save them for future use.
i think Samsung cloud work just fine along with google backup.

This, and I use Helium backup (paid version). Helium can be kind of finicky, but it does work. Backed up all my games and most everything else.
Before I rooted I backup up everything, then rooted. Ran the phone that way for awhile, but my Gear S didn't work so I backed up everything with Helium, Titanium and Smart Switch, then unrooted.
My Helium backups restored fine.
Probably overkill doing all this, but some of my games I have been playing for years. Don't want to lose that data.
I will reroot when i can and then just restore with tb

Well lucky fir me i hadn't wiped my note 4 yet. I did use every backup method available to me and still lost some stuff.
I returned my note 7 last night. I am so sad. I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE this note 4 now. Hard to believe only what 2 weeks and the note 7 had already changed my perspective of what i need in a phone. I would gone to an lg or nexus but neither of those are any better than the note 4 which i already own. Gues im lucky we hadn't sold them already ha ha ha. I miss my phone. . I hope it isn't gone long. I miss fingerprint and samsung pay. I reallly miss the much smaller and better feeling in my hand. This note 4 now feels do big and clunky and the fingerprint not working the first time drives me crazy.
Please hurry and give us our phones back. .

Hey guys,
sorry for any bad Engish and if this is already known.
I updated my P8MAX from EMUI 4 to EMUI 4.0.3 recently. Since then all my google related apps stoped working. Play Store startet and shows a white screen. The "google"-app starts, asks for a google account and if you want to create it the app closes and I land on the main screen. Same with youtube, one drive, etc..
I already called the German tech support but they can't help me with the device, because its a foreign device and they wouldn't be able to resolve the problem. They neither want to help me with a new device, like a discount or something.
E-Mail support told me to reset the devices cache and reset the device to factory default. This didn't help at all so they want my BUILD number and imui. Will keep you updated on that!
Do you guys have any idea how I should proceed? Thanks for answers.
Edit:
Got feedback from the international email support:
"I'm sorry to tell you that your phone has Chinese software and some apps may not open. For a possible exchange of your P8Max please contact your dealer"
Perfect answer! Replied and asked if it is possible to go back to EMUI 4.0 and how they are blocking google apps. If it is through the "hosts" file it will be easy to remove.
Edit2:
International support contacted me again: They can't help me. They can't tell me how they are blocking google! Completely useless support.
Trying to get into contact with some other employees at huawei.
I think the best solution for the problem is to install a custom rom. ****!

I have exactly the same problem with my DAV-703 which held play store and other google apps, they al stopped working after the last update whic came through last week .....
Cache wip did not do the trick , factory reset neither. Still looking into other possibilities including flashing custom rom....
Add me to the mess!
I'm not too sure what's occurred but it definitely nurfed me as well. Strangely enough, it does show a few elements working but then it screws it up.
I've tried everything myself... And fear the worse now because nothing works. This device was working flawlessly before this stupid update. Thankfully I told my wife, whom has the same device to avoid the update... "I'll try it out"... We would of had 2 worthless devices.
If any of you have updates, suggestions or better yet solutions please let us know. I'm tremendously upset... Thank you.
on the same boat here in Canada.
OK I contacted US support - and they said basically it was the Chinese update "applied to the International ROM" and I should contact the place I purchased it... Hmmm, my wife panicked (she has the same device) and its DAILY nagging to update. I said DO NOT! So, I did the ridiculously crazy idea I rolled it back to 5.1 and I am going to get it back to where it was... unfortunately I fear this is THE ONLY SOLUTION... I am not there yet, I am back on the 5.1 but I will get it to where it needs to be I hope soon. Its really a pain in the BUTT that they knowingly pushed out and forced an update that messed EVERYTHING UP...
I seen the hosts file suggestion above and I'd say that's possible but I do not think its just THAT simple... though if it is... NICE! Keep us updated.

Hi. Without an unlocked bootloader you are sort of out of luck. However there are tools to do that but you will need to pay a little for the one I use. I did. And it was the best money ever spent... I've recovered my phone 2 times now. It escapes me the name of the bootloader unlocker. Damn it. There are a lot of tutorials on it... Even some one click methods on XDA. And there is a guy on Twitter that I know Zedomax he did a good video on YouTube.
My main suggestion: study it so it's not so difficult.
As it relates to the rollback I followed this thread exactly: https://forum.xda-developers.com/p8max/general/p8max-root-guide-d-701l-d-703l-t3269213 and then I had the files previously for 5.1. saved and just rolled with the tutorials that a forum guy named: Hirs_E_Fruit (look for his threads) did (he's the author of the link above). His tutorials ABSOLUTELY work. If you are willing to do it. It's the real DEAL.
I spent 8 hrs YESTERDAY Friday, doing it. My Max is exactly as was before that stupid disaster. If you want you could also use KingoRoot but in this particular situation I'd suggest you follow the above. It WORKS.
If you need particular files let me know... I probably have them. And do not get frustrated. It's not hard but it can be trying if you've never done it before. I have on tons of devices so I am not worried. And honestly I really had to use a lot of gimmicks to get it to work but it's perfectly fine again. So it is possible.
Let me know. Thanks.
BTW Since this occured it's came to my attention that there are 2 update files from July. One is bigger than the other. My wife ever the interesting source of misinformation suggests that the bigger one could be the INTERNATIONAL version and the smaller the Chinese. I am thinking she is correct as US support suggested it was the IMEI that gave us the update and since most of us bought it in China, that's why we got the wrong version. Go figure... It was a terrible situation.
Another suggestion I had was to locate your Google Services Framework ID. There is a link: google.com/android/uncertified that if you can find your GSF ID (device ID app helps) - you'll have to sideload it, but, this update erases it. It's not blocked its erased because in China Google isnt allowed. Amazing considering how many devices are from China. Anyway I hope it helps you.

It won't happen. They will just say it was "imported into a not supported country"... Basically after everything I've come to the conclusion it may have been intentional. Why? Because this particular phone - my wife has it too, really 3 yrs later was working perfectly. Meaning it was an amazing piece of hardware. Just it didn't catch on, nor do they (any mobile devices company) want you to keep a device for years.
This is why they push out new devices yearly. This is why they stop supporting these devices. It'd say, unless you are willing to do like I did, go back to 5.1 and redo the entire device up to the B212 then... Get a new device.
And strangely enough my wife whom refuses to change anything, yesterday asked me about buying her a Mi Max 3. She said the constant nag to update and fear she may "by accident" has forced her to want a new device. I was thinking the Honor 8 Max but it needs to have a global ROM. Otherwise... It's just asking for problems. Unless you don't use Google services then go ahead. There are quite a good percentage of people that actually call it "Google bloatware". And Apple fanboys don't miss it if they don't use it. So... That's what it is.

As I replied it is possible to restore it to the before state but it's legit arduous and it requires a lot of effort. My question and suggestion: If you do buy the MI Max 3? ABSOLUTELY make sure you get the Global ROM. And did you order it? Because I'm ordering one today for my wife. I'm on the fence. I got a MI Max 2 and it's nothing special. I was thinking something more beast like but I like big devices. The Honor 8 Max was tempting me... But no Global ROM until October.

I'm worried that I will mess restoring up and it will totally kill/brick phone. No I haven't ordered yet. I'm not sure due to that 18:9 screen what will be real screen size compared to P8 Max. I need Dual Sim now and Huawei is crap in that - second sim works only as 2G so two sim cards: EE + 3 are impossible to be used :/

I was able to restore this particular phone twice. Last year around November it stopped working for some odd reason. I was on B212 firmware. I rolled it back to 5.1 (before B029) even, and restored it totally. It was working flawlessly... Until... This mess occurred.
And I did it again on Friday. I'm not a newbie and I'm a veteran of this but I had to use a lot of gimmicks to get it to work this time.
I went ahead and ordered a Global ROM MI Max 3 for the wife. Should be in her hands on Thursday/Friday that's September 13th/14th. If all goes well. We are in the process of selling two of our properties (she's busy with that and stuff at the University she works at) and I am headed to back home to US again... So between all of this, I probably won't see it in person for any side by side or comparisons until end of next week. And she may not have time to mess with it until then as well.
But like my thread above if you are thinking about fixing it, and need files/help, ask away. I'll try to help as much as I can... It is possible. Trust me. Just remain calm.
If you want to downgrade from EMUI 4.0.3 to EMUI 4, you can try this way.
1. Turn on your PC and download "Firmware Finder for Huawei"
apkmirror.com/apk/gmanrainy-by-team-mt/firmware-finder/
2. Connect your phone with USB
3. Copy and install the apk file
4. Run "Firmware Finder for Huawei"
5. Check your model(DAV-703LC233) and tap it
6. Select "DAV-703LC233B226(159MB, not 135MB)"
7. GET AN UPDATE THROUGH DNS -> AUTO -> RUN VPN SERVICE
8. Go to setting -> Updater -> Quick update
9. Done
Sorry for my bad English. I'm not sure you guys understand my text.
And also not sure this method is working but I think it is worth attempting though you may fail.
Good luck!

Awesome. Glad there ended up a much easier solution than what I did. Now my question is, could I do this with my wife's phone (she didn't run the update that messed the rest of us up) and apply the proper B226 update because she's getting nagged... As I mentioned earlier she suggested the bigger one was the proper one. Any thoughts? Thank you again... And I'm happy for everyone!
Unfortunally does not work.updater says “no updates” when checked
Google problems after 4.0.3
my hopes were high after reading this. luckily it worked for a few. are there any other solutions to resolve this issue? as replied earlyer, all steps taken but no luck with the mentioned update. doesnt see it as an update somehow.
