Hello, I have the SM-G955U1 (US Unlocked) Galaxy S8 plus. Since a few days ago (I want to say 2 days) this has randomly been happening:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0R973KolOY
The touchscreen becomes unresponsive for a few minutes at a time. There's nothing I can do to make it come back aside from just waiting. This morning I got out of bed and it was unresponsive and it stayed that way long enough that I could get a video of it. The only thing I can think of is that I installed the July security update around the time this started, but I'm not entirely sure.
Has anyone else had similar experiences?
edit- I think it's software related. I suspected it was, since I've owned the phone for a few weeks and it only started two days ago. A few minutes ago, the touchscreen became unresponsive again while I was using Samsung Internet. While it was unresponsive, I kept swiping up and down and back and forth. A few minutes later when the touchscreen became responsive again, it carried out all those swipes really really quickly over the course of 2-3 seconds.
Question: Do you have a glass screen protector.
This is either the above, or a rogue app.
Factory reset and watch what you reinstall.

Nope, no screen protector.
I thought about what you said about it being a rogue app and started uninstalling things. I've only installed one app in like 2 weeks so it was pretty easy to find the culprit. Once I uninstalled "MyFitness Pal calorie counter" I haven't had a single problem and now my keyboard isn't lagging anymore either.
Thanks for the tip!
same problem
same problem here as well.
help?
I have this issue as well. Except my problem is not the "My Fitness Pal calorie counter" but, I will check recently installed apps and see if it goes away. Starting to think it could be the "Game Tuner" app from Samsung or because I changed some settings for some apps I was having issues with.

Was at about 30% battery and the screen froze as in it wouldn't take any touch events. The backlight would react as if the screen wasn't touched. It seems like the touch events just were not registering but the phone worked in the background. Kernel issue maybe? I have been using faux.
Something similar ....
I had a similar experience on the 15th .... took my N5 off the Qi charger and the screen froze when i tried to unlock it.
I hit the power button and was able to unlock and get a few touches in before it froze again.
I was finally able (after much screen off/on cycles) to get down to the developer options and turn on show touches & show cpu usage.
... background processes looked fairly normal when the screen was frozen(touches showed as frozen) ...
I was rooted, stock rom except for xda user Jishnu Sur's N5 camera mod and running a couple tried & true root apps(Stickmount & QuickBoot). Thought some software issue might be jamming up the digitizer i/o causing it to freeze.
Reverted entirely to stock (the Team Win recovery was also experiencing screen freeze - buttons worked fine) including removing TRWP and re-locking the boot loader!!
The screen freezing problem persists ... my conclusion is that it's a hardware issue. :crying:
It's possible you are seeing the same thing, but I haven't seen anything in the forums to indicate it's a widespread problem.
Returning it for a replacement phone ... :fingers-crossed:
Hi,
same problem here from France.
I already returned a Nexus 5, after multiple freeze I tried to format data partition via bootloader, (no rooted phone, following google instructions for stock reset) then the phone crash wile formatting, it never wake up gain.
When I get a new one from google after one or two week same problem appears, and it's append more and more often, since monday my phone crash one time more every night, and all the day today.
A this time I'm still trying to load it sine I came back from work seven hour ago, battery still at 49%.
I think it's and hardware issue too.
I'm very disappointed about Google and I'll never by anymore LG products.
Thanks for reading.

Freezes tend to happen on custom kernels specially if you under-volt it too much. have you done that?

Last week I had the same problem with my new NEXUS 5. IT’S TOTALLY A HARDWARE ISSUE.
LG products are however not so bad in the JAPAN market but still we are expecting a lot from LG technology.
LG services suck.
I am facing the same problem with my Nexus 5. Unrooted, bought 7 months back from India itself, was working fine till around two weeks back, when the lags, screen freeze, blacking out n all appeared. Got it repaired twice at the LG centre. They changed the front display touchpad as well as the charging connector strip. The problem still persists.
I purchased my NVIDIA tablet yesterday but having problems with the responsiveness coming from sleep. About 1/5 of the time, my tablet will not respond to my finger/stylus. I always have to press the power button a few times to get it to work.
I have all the updates, including the recent update from yesterday. Is this defective?
Thanks in advance

I've had that many times during one single day. Had to literally reboot the thing 5 or 6 times that day. COMPLETELY NO RESPONSE FROM THE SCREEN, ONLY BUTTONS. Still have to clue what the deal was. Hasn't done it since, but the issue DOES exist. And yes, I bought from the very first batch, straight from Nvidia.
I've had this problem since day one. Also the tab crashes at random times and it getting ****ing annoying. Thinking of returning the thing. It's worse than useless. Turn the screen off and you can bet that i'll have to reboot to get the touchscreen working again.
Idk why this helped but it did. I switched from using philz touch recovery to cwm recovery...now screen works less than half the time I turn it back on. That's still better than never.

I've never experienced this on Stock, Only on Pac-Man ROM and CM11. Either way it is very annoying.
This is a reaaallllllyy ghetto work around until the issue is solved, but the way I worked around it on CM11 is to have Tasker and Secure settings wake the device for a few seconds every 45 mins - 1 hour. Ever since I've had Tasker performing that task I've had no issues with the screen being unresponsive.
I have figured out how to fix the touchscreen issues. All you have to do is go under Settings>Apps>All Apps and find anything that ranges from Google Taiwanese or any Google foreign language app and disable it. There should be two of them. I haven't had any problems since I disabled them. :good:
I found something that has worked so far. I always use Nova launcher since it's my fav. I didn't think much of leaving the launcher that came with the rom. I went to titanium backup and froze the other launcher and it solved the touchscreen issue. This also fixed the app crashing problems most of the time. Still if I run more than two applications at the same time everything on the tab starts crashing. Seems to be a ram problem. I checked max backround processes and it's at "normal" which usually is fine. If anyone has a solution to the crash problem please let me know. Meanwhile i'll keep trying stuff.

Same problem here... Funnily enough I just wanted to try a custom rom to see whether this issue will be fixed and a new official upgrade to 7.0 came up - https://shield.nvidia.com/support/shield-tablet-k1/release-notes/1
Will see whether ithe problem is gone.
There was a time when my screen became a bit unresponsive. Very random. Calibrating the touch sensor fixed it up. Its a bit hidden but you'll find it by going into Settings>About Tablet (device)>Click on Model Number 3 times>The calibrating settings will pop up hit Touch then hit Start. It'll do it's thing and reboot. Hopefully it helps.

I had a similar issue with touchpoints not working near the corners, calibration fixed things for me also. It's pretty quick and easy to do so I urge you to try that before doing a factory reset.
So far so good... Android N seems to fix the problem

Hi all,
Long story, but the quick version is my home button rarely does anything any more and the screen wakes up by itself from being asleep after anywhere from 3 seconds to 12 seconds.
Now for the long version:
Non-rooted Galaxy S6, by the way. I did a factory reset last week, just because things were getting sluggish. It went well, things were back to speed, and I reinstalled the essentials I wanted. Last night I noticed my phone kept waking itself up over and over again. Then I noticed the home button wasn't doing anything. I rebooted it and it didn't change a thing. After a little more time, the power button also stopped responding. I couldn't even do an emergency reboot with those two buttons disabled. I even tried sticking it in the freezer for a few minutes to see if it was too hot. Google told me about the on screen menu thing to emulate the softkeys so I was able to use that to get around and do reboots.
I hadn't installed any new apps in the last 24 hours, but what the heck, I did another factory reset. I had the option to restore all the apps and settings from 1 day ago, so I chose that. The problem still was there. Dang it, I thought I should not have restored those apps, so I did another reset, this time a totally clean one. The problem not only still happened after the reset, it was doing it during the reset, if the screen went to sleep during a step in the factory reset, the glitch would wake it back up in a few seconds.
I decided last night to just turn it off and charge it fully and hit the Sprint store in the morning. Oddly while charging with the phone powered off, the green battery display would go off and on the whole time it charged.
In the morning I turned the phone on....and NO problems. (of course) For 2 hours not one glitch. So just before leaving for work it starts happening again. Another factory reset at work and a system update from Samsung and still, the problems are there.
I'm just thinking I'll hit the Sprint store tomorrow and swap it out for a new one...but I thought I would tap you guys for any info if you had any.
Thanks in advance, Larry
Sounds like your phone got wet. Factory reset over and over again will not fix this problem ha
Hi,
It seems like a problem with the hardware itself. So yeah, factory resetting all times won't help. Go get a new one .
All the best,
~Lord

Thanks for the ideas, I tried the dialer thing, thereassaad, but it didn't help. It does sound like water damage, but there is no way. I've never dropped it or been near any water. I'm heading to the Sprint store tomorrow, too busy today. I'll let you folks know how it went tomorrow night.
Just FYI, they replaced the screen saying that fixed the home button not responding and the screen waking itself up, but said I probably shouldn't restore with my google account, since it's likely corrupting my system... Huh? I said. They said the hardware was fixed, but I should create a new google account. I said no way. I said what does having just my contacts imported (no apps) have to do with hardware failure. I said, open up a new phone and lets put my google account on it and see if it breaks the new phone, they said no.
In the store we added my google account to my "fixed" phone with the new screen and all and it messed up again. They said, never mind, we'll replace it, and it should be there this Tuesday.
I didn't ask if it would be a refurb, but I really don't care as long as it works.
So that's my story. So far.
They swapped it out for a new phone, refurb likely, but I'm not sure how to find that out. (not that I care too much) I'm loving the new phone, it's like unboxing day again. No cost out of pocket for me too, which is nice.
Hi all,
Hope somebody can shed some light on this issue I'm facing. This is my first ever post. All your input will be very much appreciated.
I purchased this S7 Edge DUOS (Dual sim version) around 8 weeks ago. Around 3 weeks into my ownership, I've started facing a persistent issue which I've tried to resolve with the best of my knowledge but unfortunately I haven't succeeded.
Randomly the phone will freeze for around 5 to 10 seconds and then restart. Sometimes a pixelated set of lines would appear across the screen when it freezes, a lot of the times they are green.
When the phone does reboot and I return back to the main screen, everything is back to normal and the apps I was using remain opened in the background, so it's not a proper reboot.
There is no such pattern on when this happens, it happens while being used on any app and a lot of the times it reboots while the phone is in my pocket. The only reason I realise is because the phone will be on the startup lock screen.
Battery life seems okay, nothing seems to be draining the battery. Although sometimes it does get hot and drains it temporarily.
I have cleared cache partition, done a factory reset and deleted third party apps. Nothing has resolved the issue. When I did the factory reset, the phone didn't crash for a good few days then started doing it again.
I just cannot work out what it may be and it's getting really frustrating!
I really hope somebody can shed some light on this, I am trying to avoid going down the return route.
Many Thanks in advance for all your help.
Hassan
Hi my mate had the exact taste problem with his s7 Edge single dim version, it woody of freeze and reboot and pixilated just as u explained and turned out his phone his cpu overheated and this was the result of it, he then returned it to Samsung and he received a brand new handset so best is to maybe return it as it sounds to be a faulty handset.

Before the latest watch update it would lock while on my wrist very seldom (2-3 times a day).
After the update i find it locked 100% of the times looking at it - even when it is very snug on my wrist.
Anyone else experiencing the same problem?
Is there any way to mitigate it?
(I have to keep the lock feature on in order to use google pay)
Nope.
1) Clean the sensors on the back of the watch.
2) Wear it snug.
3) Wear it snugger.
There is no way to "mitigate it", its security requirement to use Google Pay, to stop anyone from tearing it off your wrist and going on a shopping spree...no one is even looking at "mitigating it" so forget that as an option
This has been covered a millionty times between here and reddit
I maybe have to unlock once a day if i have rolled over in the night and its temporarily lost contact
Samsung didnt release the update just to make your watch lock more.

Shure but Samsung could make a mistake. Not the first and not the last.
I agree with topic author. Something went wrong with unlocking after last update. I also started to encounter problems but not so frequent as author.

I use Google Pay several times a day, every day, 7 days a week
No change to my experience post update, and in fact my watch is probably less snug now using a metal band, than when i used the original band it came with...
How often do you clean the back of your watch, i do mine a couple of times a day, usually when i take it off to take a shower....i suppose if your overly hairy that might be a thing....
Trust me, i'd be the 1st (and most vocal) person complaining in if i had to enter the code every x hours...

Never did that
I have some idea: restart the watch and see if situation is getting better after
I realised it helps me. After I leave the watch ( turned on ) on the charger for the night, then next hours I have it on hand - problem occurs. After restart problem vanishes.

This is EXACTLY what happens to me every day now too! And only started recently as well.
Charge overnight (with watch on), put it on the wrist in the morning, unlock it, let it dim the screen (I have the always on display turned on). Instead of going to the always on mode, it turns off the screen, then asks for pwd again if I try to use it.
Restarting the device fixes the issue, i.e. always on works again and don't need to enter password several times, just once.
To be clear, this was my daily routine since the watch was launched many months ago, and only recently this became an issue.
As guys has asked to try to clean the watch sensors and wear it snugly etc. I have tried all solutions for my Watch 4, and a few more and now it is working perfectly without locking itself. But not sure what which method has fixed it.
I also have problem when I update this last firmware, now when I flip my wrist it won't turn on and the sensor light is on continuously, I'm looking for the old firmware to reload can anyone help I'm not? My watch code is SM-R895U. Thank you very much everyone.
Mine works perfectly. I do not think it was the firmware that caused your issue (but I could be wrong). Another user found out his watch sensor was bad and had his watch repaired. The previous poster to you cleaned his sensor and refit hos watch band. You may need to reset your watch if something did not load correctly.
I have not looked, but in recovery, if you have the selections like the phone, clear the system cache and repair your apps.
