I've had a HTC One A9 (Sprint) for a week or so now, which belongs to my partner, carrier is unlocked, in the bootloader it was initially Locked, with S-On, since then it has been Unlocked and now Relocked.
She was paranoid about security and wanted me to try updating to the newest version, I naively attempted to do so with little knowledge and ended up soft-bricking the phone.
Its now stuck in a boot-loop and has no recovery.
I've spent an entire day trying to fix this myself, tried flashing various RUUs and everything error'd out or gave me signature errors, I basically can't seem to flash anything at all.
What should I be doing? I'm a little overwhelmed.
Kindly asking for some support from some more knowledgeable peeps, if you need any more info other than below, let me know, thanks

Have you tried the 1.57.651.1 RUU for Sprint?
Link: http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_HIA_AERO_WHL_M60_SENSE7GP_SPCS_MR_Sprint_WWE_1.57.651.1_R2.exe
Also, make sure you're in the proper mode. There's download and there's fastboot. You need a black background to use the RUU
Thanks so much John, all fixed!

Hi!
Can someone help me!
My mobile is locked, i think its a Security Warning Lock!
-when i reboot or recovery!
-they dont go to the normal rom!
i need help! :/ :/ :/
I have a HTC Sensation XL
Please help! ASAP!
Sorry to say, but I a noob.
I got my Sensation XE rooted and S-OFF succesfully though.
Maybe you should ensure you have the correct hboot installed, and the correct recovery version (I use the ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.0.8).
If you are unable (so I guess) to flash anything as the phone does not boot the recovery, you maybe can try to install the official RUU.exe (search this forum for the matching RUU for your device), it includes the stock hboot, recovery and rom.
Please give some feedback as I truly understand how frustrating it is to brick a 700$ piece of phone...
Im a really noob! its my first time....

i rooted using the x-factor xploit maybe a week after it was released and haven't done any updates since as I have never run into any problems with that set up.
i've been using the CarbonROM nightly from 6/17 since the day it was released and haven't had any problems with it. here's a screenshot of the phone info which shows I am using the 3.4 kernel
View attachment 2106946
if i'm not having problems, would i be able to try out other 3.4 kernel roms? i've been avoiding taking a day to sit down and learn about adb/sdk and hope to achieve s-off as I have never used it/installed it. i read some noob guides earlier today and none of the links were working. any guides with working links? have I just been lucky?
Hi Team.
7 Days ago after several times to root my HTC ONE S, it was bricked at least I think.
I´m S-ON, no Root, no ROM, only unlock the bootloader. So when i try to start the phone It was stuck into the red letters behind the HTC ONE logo.
I was the last 7 days reading all the posts, tutorials and youtube videos I google. I make some trys to install the official RUU from the Europe as mi CID is ORANG309 from spanish company but I get the wrong CID error when I try.
Please could anyone confirm if my HTC is totally bricked or I have some expectation.

Well if you cannot find a working RUU then you should just install a custom recovery, install a custom rom, and don't forget to flash the boot.img.
You should be set.

Sure it is okay. You only need to root when keeping a stock ROM on it. Most (all?) roms are rooted. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Being S-On means that you cannot change partitions, radio, bootloader, and have to flash the boot.img when installing ROMs. I would say most people who are using this phone are S-On, not that big of deal.

THANKS MILLION :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
IT WORKS. :good:
Thank you for your help, and for share your knowledge ....
VZW sent me a new phone and sim to troubleshoot an issues I was having with getting 4G Coverage. Turns out the SIM card needed to be replaced. I am sending in my old phone and went through the steps to get the phone back to stock. After applying the RUU I attempt to switch s-off to s-on. After doing this my bootloader has "Software status: Modified". I messed up the restoration as I did not lock the bootloader prior to putting s-on. I just want to make sure VZW does not have an issue with the Modified banner in the bootloader. Do I need to be S-off to changed the Modified banner? Seems getting your phone s-off on firmware 4.4.4 has become harder, I tried Sunshine and it stated a know issue prevent the application from working.

There going to look for modified
I wouldn't send it I with the modified banner and I don't think there's any way to remove it I your state. I would think your best bet is till hope that sunshine 3.0 works for you when it's released. I feel like that is unlikely however.

You can still relock. Then ruu using the s-on ruu I have posted and the modified message will be gone.

Thanks Modified message went away via relocking the bootloader and flashing your S-On RUU. Bootloader now reads **Software status: Official ***. Do you think VZW would have a problem with the *** Relocked *** flag thath appears in my bootloader now?
I have a similar case. I tried to root my M8x (Asian Variant ) with Kingoroot app which fails. Sunshine was unable to get the temp root on my device before attempting the rooting with this app. Unfortunately in the fastboot menu I saw Software Status modified and Locked.
During the booting after I have a black screen of 3 seconds between the first white screen and the HTC one animation.
Factory resetting the M8 didn't change the situation
Thanks in advance

Run the s-on ruu and that will clear.

I got an used HTC One A9 as gift. I didn't rooted the phone yet, but on download mode shows:
*** LOCKED ***
htc_hiaeuhl XC S-OFF
CID-HTC__621
and on the bootloader shows:
*** LOCKED ***
*** S-OFF ***
When I reboot the phone, I get the red text about development purposes.
How come my phone can be S-OFF without being rooted?

Question is, What is making you believe that your phone never was rooted before you got it? Because of the ***LOCKED*** flag maybe? That flag can be changed to whatever you'd like when you have s-off. And you don't need root to keep having S-OFF, once its done its S-off forever (unless you manually turn it back S-ON)
On some A9 pictures, I saw "htc_hiaeuhl XC S-OFF", "htc_hiaeuhl XD S-OFF" and "htc_hiaeuhl PVT S-OFF". what the difference?
