Software Status - Modified - Verizon HTC One (M8)

VZW sent me a new phone and sim to troubleshoot an issues I was having with getting 4G Coverage. Turns out the SIM card needed to be replaced. I am sending in my old phone and went through the steps to get the phone back to stock. After applying the RUU I attempt to switch s-off to s-on. After doing this my bootloader has "Software status: Modified". I messed up the restoration as I did not lock the bootloader prior to putting s-on. I just want to make sure VZW does not have an issue with the Modified banner in the bootloader. Do I need to be S-off to changed the Modified banner? Seems getting your phone s-off on firmware 4.4.4 has become harder, I tried Sunshine and it stated a know issue prevent the application from working.

There going to look for modified

I wouldn't send it I with the modified banner and I don't think there's any way to remove it I your state. I would think your best bet is till hope that sunshine 3.0 works for you when it's released. I feel like that is unlikely however.

Thanks Modified message went away via relocking the bootloader and flashing your S-On RUU. Bootloader now reads **Software status: Official ***. Do you think VZW would have a problem with the *** Relocked *** flag thath appears in my bootloader now?

I have a similar case. I tried to root my M8x (Asian Variant ) with Kingoroot app which fails. Sunshine was unable to get the temp root on my device before attempting the rooting with this app. Unfortunately in the fastboot menu I saw Software Status modified and Locked.
During the booting after I have a black screen of 3 seconds between the first white screen and the HTC one animation.
Factory resetting the M8 didn't change the situation
Thanks in advance

how do I install OTA_Ville_U_TELUS_WWE_1.84.661.9-1.70.661.1_release_if i am unlocked

Hello. So I have an HTC One S on the Telus network. My bootloader is tampered / unlocked. My carrier came out with an update OTA_Ville_U_TELUS_WWE_1.84.661.9-1.70.661.1_release_265425nbzfb5rjuc5cfhg0 that I was able to download but it will not install.
I was just wondering if anyone has come across this issue?

I just would like if someone can do a walk through and show us how to get this update installed and then beable to unlock / root the update
Also, my phone is tethered rooted meaning I can't reboot the phone without it being hooked up to my computer so I can run the superboot img
so my phone gets past that htc screen with the red lettering at the bottom. I am wondering if anyone has been able to fix this?
Thanks for any help

I relocked the bootloader but it just kept restarting into the bootloader, no recovery. I might be missing something but it just won't load into the OS now with it locked. I am using the ville-superboot hack atm...maybe i broke it...
Unfortunately i Cant help you with that issue. But can i ask when you downloaded that file. From I have desperately been looking for a stock os for my telus one s.
NVM: Found your post, Now all i need is an RUU for telus. This might be your issue too. is your rom stock? This is only an update so You probably need to be running the RUU rom.
I have a nandroid backup of the stock rom in a .zip file. I don't know how to make it into an RUU or else I would. I am on a stock rom also. I have it rooted and a custom recovery but I didn't load a custom rom on it. Just use the super.boot method to load the OS. Kinda works like a tethered jailbreak.
did you restore cwm recovery to stock recovery?

OK so for you TELUS subscribers out there, this is for you. I have a nandroid backup of a stock Telus system. This system is on the lasted update from Telus OTA_Ville_U_TELUS_WWE_1.84.661.9-1.70.661.1. The only thing I have done is obviously unlocked the bootloader and flashed custom recovery to make the backup. I have also included a stock boot.img and a stock recovery.img as well as the actual OTA update (don't think it's needed but it's there).
So, if you can get into the bootloader, you can revert back to a stock rom on TELUS with this backup.
I have tested it so I know that it works.
If you have any questions let me know
The link is to my Dropbox and its been shortened so just copy and paste it into your browser - goo.gl/cyDrg -
Cheers!
P.S. Give it about an hour or so to upload. I live in Canada and our upload sucks

If you already have rooted your phone why didn't you make the root permanent? There is no excuse for for not being able to reboot without a PC.
Also, I would suggest not updating by OTA or RUU as it will update the HBoot and you won't be able to flash whatever you want after that.

That was a different issue with the boot.img I was using. That is not the case with this one.
We are you interested in updating via the ota or just making sure your phone is current with everything? You can do either, your best move is to avoid the OTA and do everything manually.
Is there a way to go back to the HBOOT-1.08.0000 if you did do the OTA?

No there is not at this time.
So a few weeks ago I updated my phone on the TELUS network to 1.84.661.9. This changed my HBOOT and RADIO

So because I updated I was told that I can't get root access any longer. Well I was bored so I went to htcdev.com and reunlocked my bootloader, flashed recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.3.1-ville, and flashed TrickDroid_v7.1.0. Let the rom boot into the OS and updated my binarys in SU and they installed fine.
So if you also updated your device OTA and your on TELUS, you are fine...you can still flash custom roms with the new hboot without any issues.
I have added some screenshots
Cheers!
I don't think they showed up in the last post
ota update
Relock bootloader
Reflash stock recovery
Do ota update
Than unlock back
Your done enjoy
no, its the same as you said but before doing OTA run RUU
ota update
Flash back stock recovery
Than relock bootloader
Last remake ota process to install or
Supose to work

Trying to Custom rom Hboot 1.18

OK, so I am trying to root and load a rom on my friends HTC Sensation. I used the toolkit, and unlocked the bootloader, and installed a custom recovery. (have had all 3 recoveries at this point).
The Bootloader shows

I tried to then install Viper Rom, and it boot loops, I tried to install what I thought was a stock rom and it hangs on the white HTC screen for well over 20 minutes. I can't get s-off because it won't boot up.... i can't figure out how to upgrade firmware because I'm not s-off. Can someone please point me in the right direction. I am downloading an RUU, but literally have no idea if its the right one. my CID supposedly is T-MOB010.
Please point me in the right direction as to how to end up with Viper Rom on this phone.
Thanks.

Yes it will, RUU upgrade works with S-ON
@OP all you need to do is flash the Tmous RUU from here: http://htcruu.com/Pyramid/RUU_PYRAM...0U_11.23.3504.07_M2_release_256085_signed.exe
i will download and run... thanks so much. wish me luck....
i downloaded and ran the RUU but it said that it was the wrong one and failed.
tried an earlier RUU too, and they both fail. I am running them as administrators, and while the phone is in fastboot. It seems to act like its going to work, and go to a black HTC screen, but then it fails. error [155]

relock the bootloader then run the RUU
to relock bootloader
fastboot oem lock
then connect the phone from fastboot to pc ..the phone should say FASTBOOT USB if connected properly
then run the RUU
EDIT - please close thread... I didn't realize I had to be bootloader locked. just on a whim locked it back up and it worked like a charm.
thanks for the help.

[SOLVED] UNLOCKED bootloader is now LOCKED

I do not know how this happened but somehow, my phone's bootloader now says:

It used to be unlocked, though. I was about to flash the latest TWRP when I noticed this peculiar detail. Consequently, I can no longer flash any recovery img - Currently stuck with TWRP 2.4.3.0. And wait. I've already tried HTCdev. It didn't work - the token was written and everything but no "disclaimer" appeared on the screen - Details in attachment. So, it's still locked.
Help me, maybe?

Solution:
It was quite simple actually.
I went to Blue6IX's Development Related Mirror Site and grabbed the 1.44.1107 S-Off PG59IMG Hboot. I renamed it to PG59IMG.zip, sent it to the sdcard, and installed it via bootloader. It's now fully unlocked. Thanks everyone!

Try to do it manually. Like with the whole fastboot OEM unlock etc. Maybe that tool isn't working right. It says your unlock token is 0kb... so is it even there

I believe if you're storing your binary in your root directory ( C:\ ) that location is assumed if it isn't declared. Give the command " fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin " a try.
Fixed it.

[Q] Question about HBOOT update with CyanogenMod installed

Recently I had to have my phone JTAGed, because I wanted to update the bootloader. I failed to read about S-ON/S-OFF, and ended up with a brick. When I sent my phone in, I requested that they do the update and install CyanogenMod for me, so that I wouldn't end up with a paperweight again, because obviously I am too impatient.
So after I got my phone back, I noticed that the installed version was a nightly build. No biggie. I went about with this for a little while, until the other day I noticed that a few of my apps were crashing, and I got the idea to update the phone.
Well, already long story short, when I tried to run the update I got the assert failed getprop( ro.bootloader ) error. Someone else said this is because HBOOT isn't the correct version, and lo, it was not.
Ok, now we're to the issue. When the people who JTAGed my phone sent it back, they relocked the bootloader. Can I unlock the bootloader through traditional means, and then attempt the HBOOT update with the RUU? I also asked them to make the phone S-OFF, so hopefully when I unlock the bootloader it will show me that information.
I'm just trying to be sure that I don't brick my phone again. I wouldn't even be bothering with all of this if the OS was on a stable version, but it isn't.
Any help?

That's what it says in the bootloader window. Is any more information required?
Just go to htcdev and unlock your bootloader. Then run the 3.18 RUU, that will upgrade your firmware as required by CM. Then just flash TWRP recovery and you're good to go.

I was the last 7 days reading all the posts, tutorials and youtube videos I google. I make some trys to install the official RUU from the Europe as mi CID is ORANG309 from spanish company but I get the wrong CID error when I try.
Please could anyone confirm if my HTC is totally bricked or I have some expectation.

Well if you cannot find a working RUU then you should just install a custom recovery, install a custom rom, and don't forget to flash the boot.img.

Sure it is okay. You only need to root when keeping a stock ROM on it. Most (all?) roms are rooted. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Being S-On means that you cannot change partitions, radio, bootloader, and have to flash the boot.img when installing ROMs. I would say most people who are using this phone are S-On, not that big of deal.
