Hello!
Does any of you have an idea why do I have a huge battery drain on custom roms?
I have tried nearly all of them (all based on OpenKirin), and no matter what I do I cannot get more then 1,5 - 2 hours of SOT, and I have to charge my phone daily. With EMUI I only charged my phone in every 2 days, with 3-4 hours of SOT.
Here's what I've tried:
- Installed L Speed, set it to Battery profile
- Installed HEBF instead of L Speed, set it to medium battery saving
- Installed Kernel Adiutor, set the CPU governor to Blue_active or Darkness, set I/O scheduler to zen or bfq (with whitePug kernel)
- Installed Greenify, set all apps that I don't want to keep running to it
- Installed Titanium Backup, I froze some system apps I don't need
- I checked WakeLock Detector, but I didn't find anything bad, my phone was 3% awake, the rest in deep sleep
- I installed BetterBattery Stats, no result
Still in 7 hours overnight from 100% my battery drained to 93%. In 9 hours with minimal usage and approx. 10 minutes SOT I'm at 82%.
I couldn't find solution to this, this is the case in ALL roms...
Can anybody help?

Thats is realy bad and big battery drain. If you goes now back to emui, battery life is the same like last time on emui? I mean if isn't something corrupted in phone after flashing custom roms
edit: I think you try to do factory reset
edit1: You always use only one optimizer? Becasue if u use this can make some errors between two optimizers if work two together
edit2: You try just flash custom rom without any change in setting and any optimizer and, battery drain is still huge?
edit3: this I think don't help but can have a look https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/how-to/guide-battery-life-nougat-t3623980

I have used LSpeed + Kernel Adiutor OR HEBF + Kernel Adiutor OR Lspeed only OR HEBF only. I didn't mix them. I tried with and without Greenify as well. I've already went back EMUI once for the same reason, battery life is great there, no issues.
Have you tried going back to the EMUI and check if everything is fine? It could even be your battery that is damaged because of over heat or using 3rd party charger.
Rommco05 said:
So good message is phone isn't broken. You always download latest version of custom rom? Try just once clean installation, wait what is your model of phone FRD...?
edit: You have network and wifi signal good/strong?

FRD-L09
Wifi always nearly full (with EMUI it's always full), network signal nearly always full.
I've tried clean install many time. Currently I'm on OwnROM. I've flashed the WhitePug kernel in the morning after the 7% drain with stock kernel.

As I mentioned above your comment, on EMUI everything is good.
On custom roms the phone isn't overheating, and I use stock charger.
Mine good i got about 5-6+ SOT

I had this issue ever since I tried custom roms. This is the reason I went back to EMUI before. It's good there.

Thanks! I've just flashed OwnROM again with Dalvik, Cache, Data and System wipe. I flashed gapps and I installed nothing else. I charge my phone to 100% and I let it be on the desk till the afternoon. We'll see. If it's good, maybe some installed app causes the issue.
Any of you use Viber? I have Messenger, Telegram and Viber all installed and runnin. They don't show up in the battery consumers though... On EMUI I have no issues with them.

Sure thing! Another question, is that normal that on Custom roms it takes much LESS time to charge the phone to 100%? It takes longer on EMUI, especially after 80% and up.
Well, nothing changed really...
2 hours on battery with 3 min screen on time 2% drop. That's 1% / hour, just as last night.

Without gapps? no... But I've flashed back EMUI already.
I have observed that Carbon ROM gave me the best battery life. Standby of 1%/hr is still present but it doesn't drain as fast as other ROMs when screen is on.

I don't know if this is common but no matter what rom I flash I get horrible battery life. I always do a clean wipe, full wipe whatever you want to call it, phone lasts maybe 6 hours of usage. Also device sometimes gets very hot, rooted use twrp 2.8.5.0 and am on the latest firmware any ideas? When I use the stock rom battery seems fine. Thanks.

Something is likely holding your phone awake for long periods of time. Impossible to know with the lack of information you've provided. Check out this thread here (It's in the Nexus 5 forums, but it's relevant for all phones) on how and what to post to analyze your battery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/battery-life-help-troubleshoot-battery-t2785128
Impossible help without knowing what your running, ROM, apps, settings , etc. Start off by installing wakeloc detector and go from there.

what is the best custom rom and kernel for the best battery life?
hello guys, i hope you all are having a great day. so my problem is this : as soon as i got the phone, i rooted it ( obviously knox tripped but that doesn't matter to me) i flashed some customs roms, but i didn't like them because the phone was lagging and freezing randomly from time to time with the phone starting to heat in just 5 min or less and the battery life got crappy. Then i decided to flash a stock rom odin, but that didn't change a thing, since the phone still having having heating issues and extreme battery drain. oh yeah, and fast charging doesn't seem to be fast even though the fast charge activated. Help you guys

Try a factory reset, and do a clean setup (don't restore any apps).. Then just give it like 2 days (the battery usually drains faster the first couple of days).. This same thing happened to me when I got the phone out of the box, rooted it as well after a week because I don't care about knox or warranty, phone was heating and battery draining so fast, I did a factory reset and a clean setup, after 2 days of discharging the phone and charging it to 100%, the battery life got better and stabilized, the heat went away. Now I easily get about 6 hours of SOT with heavy usage (gaming and stuff), and the phone barely gets hot (it only gets hot when I play pokémon Go on 4G because it uses your GPS constantly). I have the exynos version as well.
Edit: Also try Package Disabler Pro (it's paid but it's worth it), it disables all samsung bloatware and some useless services that keep running in the background, it sure helped my phone feel a lot smoother and get even better battery life.

He is using the Exynos version, which does not have this problem. Only the Qualcomm root method results in the cpu governor being changed to performance, causing battery drain and heat.
Hello,
I don't know what can I do. I must charge the battery 2 times a day. With custom ROM and Kernel ,also in stock unrooted and with locked bootloader. It's not normal, I think. Has anyone the same Problem? Maybe the battery is damaged. What do you think?
I think it's damaged .The second charge today.
Mine is very similar. I think our batteries are gone. I am about to do a factory reset and reinstall my ROM to see if it makes any difference to battery load.

Same problem for me until yesterday. After repair with Sony Bridge for Mac and installing only important apps it is ok.

I start from beginning and the what happens.
First try to see what apps run in the background, maybe there are some services draining your battery. Is Mobile Radio Active draining the battery? If not than 100% that your battery needs to be replaced.
Try Nova Battery Tester (look for apk) set to long test and see what capacity it measures.

Cannot see anything suspicious through gsam or better battery stats as I believe the put it under android system. Help anyone?

From personal experience, i found that updating OTA was the culprit. To get around this, download the full update from Oneplus and update that way.
Ever since i started doing this, I have not had the battery drain issues i used to have. Also, wipe cache before booting phone after update.

So I should try to do fresh install from OnePlus site? Awake time drops when I clear recent apps, so I believe this is either Instagram or Facebook doing this. Really weird. Even without awake time shown in graph, I got 35% drain in 1h sot and 11h standby, this shouldn't be normal, right?
It's crazy, because I used to have a good battery life

for testing, can you uninstall Instagram and Facebook for 1 day and see how your battery life changes.
I can tell you right now Instagram has a prefetch service which causes close to 1-2 hours of wakelock per day for me. I have root so I can disable it but there's no other way from the app itself.

You can just set the app to not use any background data from within Android. I have it on all that's not important for me.
Loose about 0.3% per hour without any apps or mods on beta 2.

So, the story continues... After following your advice and restricting background data for Instagram the wake up time fixed itself, however battery is still draining. Screenshots attached (facebook and time sensors used??)
I will test every available option and if they won't work, I would consider moving to beta oxygen os. Now I'm on 5.1.11
I am ready to trace this to it's roots for people who will potentially encounter this problem in the future.

It could be your spotty connection. Your awake time is fairly high when the mobile network connection goes south. Can you try using something like 3G instead and see if the awake time goes down? As well as the battery drain?
Naturally 3G uses less battery but if you see a drastic difference then it could be the tower connection you have. When the signal gets worse the modem tries harder and effectively uses more battery trying to stay connected.
Have a look if Facebook is allowed to use unlimited background data, I believe there is a setting for it on 5.1.11 aswell (I'm on beta, its a beast.)
There are many reasons not to install Facebook apps on your phone, and this is one of them.

Background data off both for Facebook and Instagram fixed (at least it seems) the overnight drain issue even with airplane mode on. Last time I lost 20-30%, tonight less than 4-5%
Just when I thought I found what was causing the drain, take a look at this: 20min sot and 20% down in 4.5h
Screens attached, still searching for the issue. Android battery stats show no awake time, but something is definitely draining (app usage insanely high on 80%)

So strange.. I feel we still have 3 options here.. 2 old and one new.
Flash 5.1.11 without wiping anything (you won't loose data so it's just an upgrade)
Flash beta 2 dirty as an upgrade, (you might get device corruptednat boot, press power 2 times and forget about the message) you won't loose any data or apps this way either.
Last option is the least fun, clean install of rom :/. If you ask me, I'd go for beta 2 option, if you wanna run something you know is stable go with 5.1.11.
I didn't run into any issues with beta 2 but some are (I believe user error here..)
Changed my mind.... I have 2 more posible fixes.. (I think)
Hmmm, one more thing I just came to think of is try using SD Maid, now this is just a guess that it will do anything at all..
The other thing is flashing a kernel, something could have happened there after an upgrade or something (just a guess.)
I'm running flash kernel now, it's really good

Thanks for your thoughts, thinking of going to beta 2 since I am on 5.1.11 right now. As for flashing kernel, I've been there with custom roms and kernels with several other phones and in the end most of them (except galaxy s5) were working better on stock ones after a while... However, doesn't rooting void the warranty on OP6?

As of warranty, no, you will still have full. However this shouldn't have to be done as a "fix" , i was just curious if stock kernel somehow got messed up :s

I would suggest doing a factory reset or uninstall your apps one at a time. Considering it's saying kernel wakelock (could be false positive) I would start go straight to factory reset. If going to Android Pie beta 2 is overall stable and forces a reset anyways, then go ahead and do that instead.
Im just getting 5-6hours SOT on my new op6, is this the normal battery life? Was planning on flashing custom kernels? Any suggestions?

Beta 2 is really good
48 hours and I'm at 18% with soon 9hrs of screen (usage and SS in battery thread)

So, I can close this case as SOLVED.
Today, phone was mainly on 4g, doing photos, videos, calls, 4 hours of spotify via bluetooth. 3h50min SOT, 16h standby and still 27% left. Dirty install of Beta 2 fixed it! Thanks for your help!

Where can I download beta 2?
I am on 5.1.11
Hello everyone, I was recently inrroduced to the world of rooting, modding and installing custom roms and kernels to the device so I may sound like a noob here and there . I have a issue with my one plus six running stable oos 9.0.2 where I think I habe have high battery drainage, there are people who claim that their op6 lasts a whole day at one charge but I being a heavy user have to charge it up to 3 times a day. I have currently rooted my op6 with magisk installed and the list of mods is attached below, also the bbs stats are attached too along with all the necessary information, I am currently on the Ex kerenel Manager and have the battery settings turned on along with advanced optimization. Also I am using the lawnchair launcher v2 with pixel 3 live wallpapers coupled with the mod provided for aod . Can anyone tell me what should i remove to make my battery life more optimal or if my battery is fine.
So 10.2% in one hour, while playing pubg. Seems normal.
Yes, thats fine but the idle drain is way too high.

Could be the always on display. What does your partial wakelocks look like? It's likely an app keeping it awake

Have you also tried to disable the second Sim?
The pixel live wallpaper will do a number on battery.
Two Sims, live wallpaper and aod. You problem is right in front of you.
The AOD will suck quite a bit of battery, for me during the day i get around 2/3% par hour of standby. My graph looked like yours at first.
But, try putting it in you pocket when you don't need to have it on a table, etc. With OOS 9.0.2 and Franco Kernel, i get 0.42% per hour of standby while phone is face down during the night and thus AOD disables.
I'm not even trying to maximize battery, have Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and other apps running, Wifi + LTE, location disabled, with a fresh install of latest OOS stable and Franco Kernel r13 without tweaking anything :good: And i also use the Pixel 3 wallpapers, wich by the way look amazing used with the AOD.
Screenshots for illustration.
The OnePlus is not designed for Always on Display, but even with that, it definitely shouldn't be empty in 6 hours. But with heavy gaming, I believe the phone life tested at about 5 hours. You should see what it looks like when you don't game.
I get about 8 to 10 hours Screen on Time with with browsing, facebook, and casual use. I have 1 Sim, no live wallpapers, no Magisk modules. I also disabled the Ambient Display on lifting phone. (I probably did a few other small optimizations, but can't remember)

No, I checked on my partial wakelocks and they are running net scheduler max for a 3-5 minutes in an hour and I can assure they are not the problem.

Wow, Tried disabling the second sim and could notice the extra SoT, thank you for the advice though. Also, I tried disabling the live wallpaper and didn't notice much of a effect on the SoT.

Wow Dude , your phone ui looks quite minimal and clean, are you using any launcher or icon pack? Also i have my location turned on always so can it be a deal breaker? Now as I focus, i think location too is sucking the damn battery off. Also while using Franco kernel do you have any problems with the brightness, I can't seem to disable low brightness while using the manager. My idle standby is too damn high thought averaging 2-3% even with the aod off. I think I mighy now consider a clean format.

Okay, I tried disabling everything off and was able to get upto 7 hours SoT with high browsing and playing videos but still wasn't satisfied as I also have the xXx rom installed with fsync diabled and stuff such as touchboost disabled and still I am only averaging out.

I'm just using OOS 9.0.2, OnePlus icon pack and stock launcher, everything stock !
Location services seem to use quite a bit of juice yes, saw very good results while disabling them.
Yeah I saw this brightness thing in the Franco app, but looks like it doesn't do anything, or it's a bug. I flashed blu.spark and the brightness is exactly the same ! I wouldn't pay attention
Idle standby on my end is 0.5%/h with Franco and Blu.Spark. So it's definitely ROM/setup related ! A clean flash should solve it !
Try Servicely from Franco to revoke WakeLock authorization for apps, I feel like it helps a ton with social apps too !

Do you use WhatsApp or snapchat by any chance? Both of those butcher battery life from my experience.

Yes, I do use WhatsApp, although i havr Snapchat installed, i don't use it on a daily basis.
hey guys I have huge battery drain issues and I can't figure it out. I am using a second sim, but I need that second sim (is there a way to disanle it, so that i can get phone calls?)
Did a clean flash yesterday, hoping things get better, but nothing. my phone used 14% in 6.5 hours . BBS shows me Net_scheduler, I tried somethings there too but no success.
what could else be the problem?

Considering you just said 14% in 6.5 hours of idle drain, it is a bit high though. Have you any mod installed or have Aod by chance, also how long does the net scheduler work? Also do check the summary for if the phone goes into the state of doze or deep sleep, id it does the problem might be with kernel wakelocks, i tried disabling the wakelocks as per the boeffla wakelock and ffs I can notice differences.

yeah, I get about 2-2.5%/hour on idle.
I should mention my setup, sorry:
OOS OB7
XxX installed, with disabled kernel tweaks
blu_spark kernel, but had also smurf no difference
I flashed a debloater from Tomatot (thought it might help)
no aod
Well, my phone is awake(screen off) quite a lot, but not too much, saw some others with insane battery life (not expecting that) with similar Awake time.
Sorry to ask this noob question, I am fairly new to this.
In BBS I see repeatatly net_scheduler , gcm, nlpcollectorwakelock, ddscardselectioncontroller.
Boeffla isn't it just for OP3-5T?. are there other settings I could change in tje kernel manager etc?
thanks a lot!!

Do you get that on Wi-Fi or also on mobile data? I get about 0.8-1%/h on Wi-Fi and up to 2%/h on LTE+ without music playback on OOS 9.0.2. i can tell you it's mostly an app that hides itself in the stats
E.g. Pokémon Go's adventure sync used GPS and datan regularly resulting in an awful 4%/h drain.
