Usable memory? - LG G Stylo Questions & Answers

After total stock non rooted format for the Stylo 2, 8gb and installing/updating only google play, google, hangouts dialer and system ui.. I have 3.6gb memory internal left. Is this normal? What the hell, advertise 8 and usable less than 4? I mean, i was okay with 5-7 gigs and aware operatong system would use some but..

[Q] 16gb tablet but only 12gb total available space?

Hi,
I have a 16gb tablet but settings only show12gb total available space... is this normal?
Cheers

Yes it's normal. I'm not exactly sure why it's like this, but I'm assuming that a portion of the device's flash memory is used for storage of the ROM, cache partition etc. and system apps.
This is however all perfectly normal, nothing wrong with your device
well there's a couple factors like first off it that standard of 1 billion bytes equals a GB when it really doesn't so the 16 is more actually like 14.8-14.9 GB then typically the App storage (approx 2GB sometimes up to 4GB) is separated out from the main storage (doesn't show up when connected to a PC like the rest of the internal storage) and then there is the "invisible" part that actually holds the OS. You should count youself lucky you have 12GB of space on my Razr Maxx out of the supposed 16 GB I have 6.1GB of useable internal storage and 2.7GB of app storage which means my system "invisible" part is taking over 6GB of space.

Moving app data to SD card without root

Okay so this topic must be very common. I have the Moto E but since this is a software related question which is pretty much the same on Moto E and G, I chose this place.
Not everybody wants to root their phone. And I'm one of them cuz I dont want my warranty be void.
Ok, so the Moto E has 4 gigs of internal storage out of which only 2 gigs is available. Well, that's nothing. It filled up just like that in no time and I didnt even have any idea on who the hell used it up expect some small apps and games (Max. 50 megs in size). I just restored the phone to factory setting and decided to start from the scratch.
Now my phone has nothing expect the default apps.
Now comes my question. I can move the app to SD card but the data remains in the internal memory. Is there any possible way out there that would let me move the data part to SD card as well? I found lots of stuff ion the internet searching for this but nothing worked. I followed this tutorial: http://karthikkn.wordpress.com/2013/...ut-rooting-it/ but what it basically did is setting the default install location to SD card which did work but is pretty much useless I guess cuz its the same as manually moving the app to SD card. Date still resides in the internal memory.
I repeat my question, is it possible to move the data to SD card without rooting the phone? This is really annoying cuz I'm that kind of a guy who would love to install loads of games and apps but would really hate it if this space problem prevents. I have a 32 gig class 10 memory card with me already mounted.
Another question is: After updating the default app like Play movies, Play games, Youtube, Maps and all, the internal memory space was rapidly consumed. Tapping on "Uninstall updates" restores the space. I wonder how can updates take same amount of extra space which is equal to the size of the download? Arent updates meant to "replace" the existing version? So that shouldnt take much space I guess? But installing an update takes the same amount of space as that of the download size which is quite absurd. Any comments to justify this?

System memory space

How many gigs do system apps take in your device? #s6
Sent from my LG-H811
About 14gb on the 128gb version
Why does it take up 14GB?
That answer is incorrect, since the phone shows the size of the reserved space for system apps, not the actual space taken. For example I have 6.54 even though I have only 2.1 GB taken. But again it's kind of true, because even it is not used you still can't use that memory.

novice storage question

Hey guys,
I would like to buy 16GB version, but it's on long delay on Moto site and I need to ship this phone to my nieces in Ukraine by the end of August. So I bought 8GB version from Amazon to play with it and see how it works and really love the phone. The storage is the only sour point. 8 GB just does not cut it and Moto does not allow to use SD card storage for app installation. Moving apps to SD card works only for some apps and even then most of the storage being used is Internal, so 3-4 large games and this phone would be out of storage.
Is there is a way to force apps to install fully to SD card? Root + App2SD maybe? I do not have much experience with rooting and would like to avoid it, if possible due to desire to stay on OTA updates schedule.
Any advise?
To be honest rooting is your best bet for an optimal experience. I'm using CM and this phone can move more apps of you install the smaller version of google apps if it is really a big problem your only bet is to order the 16 and wait.
Transfer app to SD Card to free up space
Currently, there seems no tool can help you to move apps to SD card to free up space, but there indeed tools can be used to transfer photos, pictures, music, videos, contacts etc. to the SD card. If you are interest in it, you can read some tutorial for help
Transferring music and photos works wonderfully. And Google Play Music as well as Google Photos supports saving files on SD Card as default which makes it even easier to manage your storage. The apps though is a huge issue. I installed yesterday Walking Dead and it ate more then 1GB of storage of the puny 3GB available out of the box. Add here the app cache as well as storage required to do OTA updates and you really will struggle to install any large apps on the phone without running in 'out of memory' error messages.
The phone is wonderful otherwise - light, bright screen with excellent auto-dimming, good speaker and even better camera, responsive, waterproof (yes, I tested ), pure Lollipop Android experience , etc. etc.

Constant lack of internal storage

My wife has an 8gb Moto G and it's showing that at the moment has used 7.05gb of that.
3.15 GB is on the Android OS (just updated to 6.0) and 3.90gb has somehow been used on apps? All that's on it is the likes of Whatsapp and Facebook and I moved all photos/videos onto ext sd card. Is there any way to free up some space, I've tried CCleaner but it won't make anymore room.
It's a constant struggle clearing ****e and trying to make a measly few hundred mb spare just so the phone doesn't lag too much.
It's totally stock phone.
Anyone offer some advice please.....
