I'm looking to buy the s8+ or the XZP n a few days.
Just to be clear, I'm not a Sony fanboy or a Samsung hater in any way.
As a Galaxy user since 2012, I know Touchwiz and all of its lag.
I'm disappointed in the performance in day to day use and especially after a few months of owning the device.
I used the devices stock for the first year because of warranty, but even with wiping every 2 months, rooting, disabling and uninstalling a lot of system apps, tinkering with clock speeds and installing custom kernels, the device would still lag in light day to day tasks.
I've used more Galaxy devices and although Samsung improved Touchwiz every time, i have a feeling that many phones are faster, more fluid and less laggy than Samsung devices.
As I'm looking for a new device (currently using S6 Edge+), I'm asking all the kind and polite people here who use their phone A LOT to share their honest views on using the device daily.
If anyone has had any experience with the XZP versus the S8+, that would be very helpful as well.
It's just not easy to spend ~$1050 (in my country) for a phone that will lag as the older devices, while the XZP is a cheaper and IMHO faster alternative.
Gs6+ was just a mess , after S7 edge Samsung phones aren't lagging anymore. I'm using exynos version of gs8+ and it's super smooth. Not a fan of Sony phones anymore so can't tell you about that

Had mine since day one, snapdragon variant. The only lag I've noticed is when I installed one of the Bye Bixby apps, other than that I'm using TW and smooth as butter - IMHO. I have not had a single reboot on it and and I'm using quite a few hacks, battery life is the best I've ever had - especially for a stock kernel. I planned on using my Nexus 6, rooted with Pure Nexus once in awhile but haven't got it out except to update the rom. The only thing I was worried about was the tall, skinny screen but I love it now.
If anyone else wants to share their opinion, you're most welcome to do so.
Hi, at first I have experienced some occasional lags (mostly when swiping for app drawer), usually when i wanted to enter the app drawer after some inactivity time - after that first "laggy enter", the other times i have swiped it, it was good. However, after around one month (and some updates) it became better. I think every update helped with that. I have the phone from preorder (20th april), so its possible that the software was not excellent from the first day.
The important thing is, now its absolutely butter smooth, even while having many apps and almost full memory. I believe that if you buy the phone today and immediately do all the updates, it will be totally smooth without any lag. With new phone i copy my sms (7000+ messages) and while all previous phones were lagging while scrolling through those messages, S8+ has no issue here.
I haven't seen any lag in 3 months it runs buttery smooth and I'm loving and ha s8 plus has crazy battery life u gonna love it

Hey Guys,
My first post here. I need to pick a phone for my work by tomorrow (I got the notice just today). The options are Galaxy S6 vs iPhone 6. I am really confused between which one to pick.
Here is my situation. I have used both Android & iOS till now. I currently use a Moto E for work. Terrible phone (but built like a TANK!). Before this, I was using iPhone 5 which I didn't mind (loved the camera). I don't know if this should factor in my decision - but I also own iPad Air (love it), Apple TV (meh so far) & Samsung TV. I do not own a Macbook (good old Windows here, HP Probook). I do not subscribe to Apple services like Apple Music or iCloud. I use Google services a lot - hangouts, gmail, maps & will also use google photos when I get the new phone.
iPhone 6 is rated incredibly highly on amazon.com whereas I have been reading about battery issues on the Galaxy S6. I would love the larger screen on GS6 but I am a bit wary of the glass back. Also, if I can't get through the day without recharging - it's a deal breaker for me (I am a moderate user). All the google apps I use are also on iOS and as I said earlier, I am not invested in Apple specific apps/services. I do not intend to root or jailbreak either phone.
I am cautiously optimistic about Now on Tap, in my heart of heart I love the material design philosophy and I am more likely to buy an Android wear watch in the future (if ever) than an apple watch. I am inclined towards Galaxy S6 (when I put things on paper) but I suppose I am looking for a validation that that the device (and by extension Marshmallow) is without significant flaws (terrible battery, hung UI, random restarts and so on). I would really appreciate if you guys can share your experiences on GS6 & Marshmallow/Android reliability.
Thanks for your time!
I am running MM Unofficial 6.01 and no lags, no battery problems, everything is butter smooth, if I had to pick I would go for GS6 bc custom rom's etc, but if your not interested in that then I would pick the iPhone 6
If you want regular updates -> iPhone
If you want better camera -> Samsung
Thanks fellow Brabantian! How difficult/easy is it to go for an unofficial MM on GS6? Does it void warranty? Sorry, I have not yet searched the forum on this topic yet...
Ram management in GS6 is terrible, while iphone is solid OS, but GS6 is killer in hardware and stupid in software( touchwiz) but i didn't test GS6 in MM so i don't know if any improvement , and GS6 has nice super charge feature which is very useful.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
The S6 has no issues with battery for me, I use it from 9am to 5pm with mobile data enabled and occasional facebook/whatsapp use with 60% charge.
The camera is outstanding, but it is terrible for close range as it cannot focus.
All in all, if you want constant updates for the future, go with the iPhone, but if you want pure stability for the OS, get the S6.

Thanks for sharing your views. It's amazing that even with 3 gigs of RAM - there's still memory management issues! Do you experience slowdown or hung apps or delay in launching apps? As regards software, I anyways plan to use one of the launchers to over-ride Touchwiz - can't stand it.

That sounds like the kind of usage I have. As regards camera not being able to focus, is this an issue even if you use a third party camera app?

Just when open fb and Twitter with couple of chrome pages, then everything in the back has to reload, so if u switch between apps then this is annoying, i don't notice hung apps but i would like to back to the app same place where i left it open , am just waiting for the iphone 7 to switch to it

I wouldn't know, but it is only where it is properly close range, probably up to 20cm away than it can focus.

the gs6 is the best overall phone right now...and especially the edge version is also the best looking one...iphone 6 is crap in comparison...battery is good enough for me with 5+ hours SOT...ram management issues are way overrated and with MM this phone flies...and since your not about custom roms then it fits perfectly your needs...you can get the upcoming s7 if you want the best

On paper the S6 is better, but nothing is more true. The hardware will never be fine tuned to the OS like Apple does it. Without root and flashing cynogenmod rom there is no fun in having an Android phone, especially no fun in having the S6.
For basic daily use like you say; mails etc. I'd just go with the iPhone 6. They receive updates way way faster. Let's say android N gets released in june 2016, it will be available for the S6 in march 2017. with the iPhone 6 you will have the newest iOS for the next 6 years (seeing that the iPhone 4s got iOS 9), something you can't expect from any android device.
Also stock S6 without apps like Powernap, Amplify, Disable services and Greenify will give you really terrible idle battery drain. This battery drain is only worse in the android M update, even when it has Doze. This will be better with later updates, but expect these updates to take 2 months atleast.
Seeing that you didn't enjoy the iPhone 5 it wouldn't really make sense to even get an iPhone 6, since the iOS is the same, but it's packed with better hardware and a bigger screen. If it was the hardware you didn't like, then maybe the 6 is an upgrade but if it's the software you can't stad (like me) then just don't get the iPhone, especially not if you won't jailbreak it.
Ram management is overhyped and shouldn't be looked at. Android M has amazing performance, it's butter smooth compared to what we have on Lollipop now.
Conclusion: get a dfferent android device than the galaxy s6, for example the Z5 premium is nice.
If you want 1 button --> iphone
If you want anything that makes sense --> any other phone except iPhone
I'm running the s6 edge on 6.01 and yes it's smooth. But truth be honest. Battery is just as bad on 6.01 as on 5.11.
I had the iPhone 6 plus before and I honestly regret getting the s6 edge insted of it.
If I had to pick now knowing what I know about both I would stay on the iPhone 6 plus.
I've had enough of Samsung and Android bad optimization and I've had htc one before and so on.
I will change to iPhone 7 this summer myself. But like I said. If I had to choose right now. I would pick the iPhone 6
Sendt fra min SM-G925F med Tapatalk
I've never had a problem making it comfortable through the day with moderate use, either before on Lollipop or now on Marshmallow beta. Stock, no root, greenify or anything of the sort. Then again, I don't use facebook, twitter or any other crappy social media battery leeches.
I'd never trade my S6 for an iPhone, that's for sure. I find the hardware ugly and overpriced, and the software too restrictive and boring for my liking. A matter of taste, admittedly.
I have both. I use iphone 6 for work email and calendar coz of optimised sync through airwatch , for everything else I always reach out to my SGS6 128GB. SGS 6 is definitely a better entertainment machine and screen size / resolution is awesome compared to IPHONE 6 (DON'T believe apple hype on retina display and human eye cannot see beyond retina..b***s***t) side by side there is a very clear difference and iphone 6 display is no match for GS6. And battery for both is almost similar. I'm a heavy user & both will last a day only. Will need recharge every night.

You won't be disappointed with either or. But having said that:
If you're a very picky perfectionist, go for the iphone 6.
If you transfer files/media on the go frequently, galaxy s6.
Happily owning a Nexus 6 right now and depending on how satisfied I am after my current ROM stabilizes his Nougat build I may or may not be seeking a new device within six months. My wife has a S7 and while I was bad-mouthing it in-store when she got it, I'm quite surprised to find myself growing on it, ESPECIALLY the camera. I also sorta crave a smaller frame than the N6 sports. After seeing that you can root, my mouth started to water a bit more. However, from what I see on galaxys7root.com (these are the guides I always used in the past with any Samsung devices I owned), the mentions of lag and the necessary steps to reverse it (is it really 100% fixed after these steps??) make me apprehensive to ever purchase one, because I really would only do it if I could root. Debloating at a minimum is a must for me. Are the current s7 ROMs out there as feature packed and customizable as what's been available to me throughout the N6 community? and are any of you experiencing the lag mentioned in the root guide I referenced above? If I'm looking at transitioning to a phone that's gonna offer me an even more buttery, trouble-free experience after rooting than the s7 offers in its stock suit already, then I may totally become a Sammy fan again.
Thanks in advance!
I'm looking for an answer on this as well, good question, hope it gets answered
Running stock rooted.. Very happy.. Popped in Xposed and no issues.

I've used stock rom (for a month) s7 with root and was utterly disappointed at the battery life (3,5 SOT), now I'm on "the galaxy project" (and importantly tpg kernel) now, with a battery life that's fine (6 SOT), but I miss the customization that comes with the addon by Ambassidi (https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...nougat-7-0-beta-3-zpkk-odex-t3507499/page205) afaik the addon only works on that rom, maybe I switch to that once more.
Would you say that the Samsung Galaxy S8 is "fast" in day-to-day use? A higher rating indicates that you think the Samsung Galaxy S8 exhibits fantastic performance. Like, is it as fast as your tears when you watch The Titanic?

Yeah why not, samsung Galaxy S8 has been outstanding, because this was the time for samsung to grape their consumers back since the incident happened with samsung galaxy note 7(mod edit) of BATTERY EXPLOSION, best of luck to galaxy s8 and s8+
It's ok still has a way to go tho
I can say it, the phone is "fast", maybe not the fastest, but phone is fast, I've not used a galaxy series phone as my daily driver since Galaxy Note 2, however I've tested every Galaxy series phone, And with S8 plus finally I went back again to Galaxy series phone as my daily phone.. That's all I can say about it.
Coming from the S6, i can positively say that i have noticed an improved experience in terms of fluidity and multitasking. Really can't complain right now
Try setting your performance mode to game mode and the phone seems to be smoother and faster. Not sure if it's just a placebo effect though.
regarding to S5 - awsome

I can agree on this. I have been using iPhone 3 years now and finally i came back to samsung android camp with release of s8+.
It's fast but it ain't so smooth than i expected it to be. I mean for time to time when i use multiple apps at the sametime, it stutters and keyboard lags time to time too.
Otherwise it's really good.
Slows down a lot after some months. camera starts slow and is not reliable. RAM Management is ****ty for a flagship.

Same her. The slowest device i own.
Got to say I've only been using this phone for just over 1 week and the last few days it's started lagging already, which is a real surprise imo, had an S7 edge a year ago and it wasn't like this.
However after finding this thread I checked my mode and it was set to optimised mode, so set it to performance mode and will see how it goes.

thanks, tried that already but it did nothing. only thing what helped was a full wipe. for now it's much faster ( i asume for a month or so) but still lags more than my old 6P. Let's see if it will improve when they update it to android 8 next march.
disappointed
Bought less than a week ago, previous phone OnePlus3 - used for a year.
OnePlus 3 became slower than when i just bought it after a year because of all the stuff installed etc, obviously.
So this phone i have now(s8) - feels about the speed of OP3(after a year, not new) - and often times even slower.
Really disappointed.
I factory reset my OP3 to sell it, it feels like a lightning compared to s8.
I am afraid to think how this thing will work after few months...
Yes ok great display(feels smaller than OP3 though because of weird aspect ration, also more comfortable in hand, to be honest, but smaller)
Yes very good camera(reviews say, tried to take few pics yesterday, didn't see any noticeable difference to be honest, but ok may be i dont know how to shoot).
But except for that dont feel like it justifies the price.
The fingerprint sensor is amazingly crappy after OP3(again we are talking a 1.5 generation older chinese phone!!!)
I am really afraid after few months it will go real slow.
The only good thing since its galaxy i believe it d be easier to sell if want to later, compared to OP5 which would come way cheaper if i chose it.
I ll give it some more time, if i feel like its getting even slower i ll sell it and buy an OP5.
Honestly though, for that price they should be ashamed at Samsung for selling a phone that cheaper chinese brands easily outperform it.
I've been using my phone in "High-Performance" mode for a week now and so far so good, even though I've since found out that there is no boost from the CPU in this mode it seems much more fluid compared to the "Optimised mode".
Not fast. it lags and stutters and isn't smooth but it's ok! I think I can kinda live with it?!
The problem with this thread is that not everyone who is complaining bought the phone. Some just hate Samsung, some just write based on what they read on the internet.
Its a shame XDA has so many trolls atm.

Lol 6p was the laggiest garbage phone I've ever owned
Blows
I kicked myself for not jumping on to the Verizon 50% off deal on the Google Pixel 2. This Samsung S8 blows, it lags way too much after some use i have to close all the apps (at times not that many are running) or just restart the phone. I would have assumed for a flagship phone this would be a lot faster. I'll have to wait for another deal before I toss this phone and get a Pixel 2.
I would give a "quickness" rating of 3/5 if I consider the performances of the phone out of the box. I mean it's ok, but can get messy.
However, after flashing a decent rom and rooting the thing, debloating most of samsung crap with package disabler or equivalent, I managed to get something really really fast that deserves a 5 stars rating.
Hello , I'm considering upgrading my 4 years old HTC M8 and I'm looking at the Galaxy S7 , LG V20 , LG G6 ( Not plus ) , HTC 10 .
After reading last night about the S7 on reddit a lot of owners were complaining about battery life and screen burn .
what's your experience with the S7 or S7e ? would you recommend it over the other devices I mentioned ? is there anything else I can get within the price range ?
I've had an S7 (G930F) since it came out. A few months ago I broke it so bought an LG G6. After a week I found the display not as good (can't see the screen in strong sunlight while using the camera), camera interior to the old S7, missed touchwiz (surprisingly), but the biggest thing was the ergonomics. The S7 is the perfect size for one handed use. Phones are getting too big or top heavy to one hand easily. I've now bought a dual SIM G930FD and won't be looking at newer models till this croaks it. I've noticed the flat S8 is a millimeter narrower than the S7, so if you have small hands could be worth a look.
Pretty sure everyone here would still recommend the S7 in 2017 otherwise they would have bought a new phone...
Already threads identical to this one
I ve had several LG Flagships, my opinion is to stay away. Network connection problems (signal gets lost randomly and not coming back if you dont reboot) since G2 maybe G, bootloops in a bunch of models and image retention problem in their screens. LG Mobile marketshare is very small and they don't care making reliable phones.
My advice, stay with brands that have served you well or they belong to the big players. Samsung, Apple, or Huawei. Maybe Xiaomi too. Or you can stay in HTC's territory if you were satisfied.
Personally last phone on my hands is Galaxy S7. Battery life is as in every Android phone, some security patches or play services versions can cause battery drains but updates can fix it after a while. Otherwise problems to non problematic devices are caused by third party apps or by disabling preinstalled apps & services.
I bought it in June this year and haven't regretted it for a second. I'd take an S7 over phones you named any day.
The G6's design is nice but there's all there is to it.
If you're not a camera guy, try getting OnePlus 3T or 5. Other than that, I have no recommendations.
I just got one. Coming from S5 running RR. So far I miss the replaceable battery but love the camera. Performance I would say is about the same. I'm leaving the S7 stock for now, just switched to Nova launcher.
Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
Go for the S7, I haven't heard anyone complaining about it so far.
sure...im using s7 for 10 months and no problem at all....few little problems here and there 99% solved with update and now this is really a good phone with good size( size is very very important for daily use)
If you want an in-its-whole reliable and secure phone with a fast camera, your only options are Apple and Samsung devices if we talk about the high end category. I ve made this conclusion after changing lots of phones and reaearching about them a lot. I am not saying you can't find something else that fits your requirements, but it's possible that issues, bugs etc you did not expect, may come up out of the blue.
So, if you don't like iPhones, you 'll have to choose a Samsung device and S7 is onw of them.
All that is my opinion, one can say this is not like this, I had that device and it was like blah blah. What I say is based on possibility and statistics and I like to help people as I ve done some stupid things in the past concerning phone buys and learned from my mistakes.

Long story short, my classic Nexus 6P has been dying for a few months, battery drains, random reboots, super low volume on speakers. I have wiped the phone tried different ROM's and back to stock, still same thing. Don't get me started on the Pixel 2 XL for almost $1,000. It's really a Nexus 8P that should be selling for $599, but since it's a "Pixel" they wanna charge us more now. No thank you.
I'm on T-Mobile
I picked up the LG V30 last week, and it is a great phone, but no root ( I knew that going in ) And zero good themes ( no offense ) On my Nexus 6P I ran the Swift Dark theme for years, and got so used to it and fell in love with it, it's hard going on the V30 without that theme, and the themes available are basic and don't do Google apps, or notifications, etc... I know Samsung has a way deeper theming system, and just tons of themes available. And most important Substratum is active for the S8 / Note 8, which is a BIG DEAL.
Is the SD835 S8+ as smooth and lag free as the V30 ? I hear that Lagwiz is still evident on the 2017 Galaxy phones ? Would a S8+ be better than the V30 ? I want the same great battery life as the V30, and I need deep dark themes system wide applied to everything.
How about package disablers ? I did that with my V30 and it made a huge difference in battery life, and stopping bloatware and unwanted apps from running in the background.
Thanks, and looking forward to the responses.

Well i have 0 experience with LG. You need to go to the samsung store and LG store and compare those 2 phones by yourself. In hand experience is away different experience than specs and reviews. I bought the s8 plus exynos ver n may i never had issues with the phone and never thought about exchanging it. This phone is a beast has a beautiful design and last all day long with a single charge.

I also have the Verizon version of the S8+ and love it. I get all day battery and no lag for me at all. I also think the design is awesome. My wife has the V20 which is an awesome phone also, so I imagine the V30 is also a good choice. I picked up the S8+ because it was the best deal at the time and have no regrets at all. Good Luck
this is my opinion but phones are reaching the point that all of them will provide a smooth experience for normal usage. I used to get rid of the extras to make my phone run faster and smoother, but now the chip is even more than what I need for my usage, those extra power can be used to provide a better UI (theme, live wallpaper and such). So I went with the one that will receive most attention in custom rom (there are great roms that make the phones even smoother than it already is and lasts longer, I use renovate ice and notorious kernel) and theme to suit my needs (and be able to change it if I want).
My gf got the V30 because she's an audiophile (the dac is simply amazing) but other than that, she likes my s8+ more. And I love my s8+. these are my experience so far anyway.
Both is amazing. Good luck
I'd personally never get an LG. They have a history of bad motherboards, prone to break. Also in MHO, they just copy Samsung, design wise. LG wants hard to make flagships, but they are the ACER of mobile phones, they just don't know it yet. I'd take S8/Note 8 anyday over any LG.
