S8+, Root safely possible? - General Questions and Answers

Hey folks,
I've been a lurker for a good while and have had great success with previous phones/tablets thanks to you guys. I have a new snapdragon variant S8+ [SM-G955u1] that is carrier unlocked direct from Samsung and have found a lot of what seems to be conflicting information about if it's possible to root or not, is it safe, etc. I use root for a lot of apps that require root access to function, so I'd like to have it back also without voiding my warranty.
tl;dr - Can a Snapdragon S8+ [SM-G955u1] be safely rooted without tripping Knox? Will any auto root app do this?
Thanks in advance!

Any way to root yet without voiding warranty?

I'm new to Samsung devices and apparently that Knox efuse is a real SOB to deal with. I don't need custom recoveries/kernels or anything fancy, just want to be able to use superuser.
I know there's at least *a* root exploit for the S7, but I'm sure it also blows the efuse. Is there a "systemless root" or anything like what the S5/S6 had that doesn't trip knox?
your question can be answered with a 5 minute search but no. bootloader is locked, system is verified on boot
I thought that's what the point of non-system root was though? So that you aren't modifying system
There is no way to root without tripping Knox (the 0x1 Warranty Void flag). This has been the case since the eFuse was introduced (at least back on the Note 3).

That's for Snapdragon 820 units. We don't know if the OP has Snapdragon or Exynos

I don't have my S7 yet, but I was going to get one soon. How would I find out if it's Snapdragon or Exynos once I get one?
I swear I saw some threads about S6 rooting without tripping Knox...

If you buy a US version, it should be snapdragon. The international/non-US version is the Exynos.
Ah, OK. Well I'm in the US so that answers that.
I would not risk it for the biscuit

This is the thing I was talking about. It works for the S6/S6 Edge, so why can't we do this on S7?
Something I was thinking about... Knox basically verifies the checksum of the system partition upon booting, right? Well, there are system updates (I had two of them after turning the phone on the first time) and those obviously modify the system partition. Which means the checksum has to be updated during that process or it would trip Knox just for doing an OTA update! So the million-dollar question is, couldn't we just spoof that ourselves?
And more importantly, why wouldn't "systemless root" do the trick? I can understand tripping Knox if you start deleting things from /system using your new root powers, but what about just using it to modify data? That's one of the main things I use root for, backing up and restoring data, which is a totally separate partition from /system.

There most certainly is a very easy way to root the Samsung galaxy s7 snapdragon to use superSU.
I did it on my sprint Samsung galaxy s7 very easily and sprint is supposed to make it the
hardest.

I did this like a month ago, but ended up undoing it thanks to Pokémon Go and SafetyNet. If you know a solution let me know...

Root Samsung S6 Edge G925FXXS4DPI1 not Voiding KNOX

Hi!
I am struggling to find a way to root my Samsung S6 Edge with the following Baseband Version: G925FXXS4DPI1, Android 6.0.1.
The different procedures (Ping Pong / CF Autoroot...) but none of them seems to be applicable to the version I have.
Can anyone suggest anything?
In case no option is available for not Voiding KNOX, what is the suggested root option?
Thanks a lot in advance!

Newb Question re: Rooting

Hi All,
Apologies for the dumb question.
Just got a brand new unlocked Exynos s7 edge. My main concern is bloatware.
Is there any way to root the device to clear out bloatware without tripping Knox counter?
After rooting, do I need to install a custom ROM or can i leave the stock image. If i left it as is (only rooted) would i still get updates as per normal?
thank you

Root disadvantages/drawbacks

Hi all,
I'm considering rooting my g955FD (s8 plus duo), can you list disadvantages of doing it?
I heard you lose private folder with root, is it true?
What are other issues, apart losing OTAs?
Thx

Once any custom binary is flashed, the knox couner goes 0x1. Therefore a Knox container cannot be made.
Once it's tripped, the following functions are lost forever: Samsung Pay, Secure Folder, and whatever else depends on Knox.
You still can probably use Android Pay, and be careful with how you store information on your device, but yes, there are features lost if you do it. If you use them, or plan to use them, don't root/flash.
If you're fine with the tradeoff, read carefully the threads (follow ALL steps when flashing TWRP, including the zip that disables dm-verity!!!), and start flashing.
I think you should not root the phone
This involves a lot of risk

Questions about root on Exynos

Hi guys, I'm thinking about rooting my Exynos S8+ G955F but there's a few things I wanted to confirm first.
First of all I know rooting will break Knox so no Samsung Pay/Health/etc. That's fine, but will it affect Sidesync? I use this daily and don't want to lose it.
Secondly all the info I've read suggests that rooting will break OTAs which doesn't line up with what I know about Magisk. Is there no systemless root available, or is it because rooting breaks Knox and no Knox means no OTAs? If I can't do OTAs can I still sideload updates?
Finally, should I consider any custom roms? I don't really want to be flashing an update every other week and I don't want to lose Android Pay so I'd rather stay on stock unless there's a good custom rom I should try.
