Screen on time - Honor 9 Real Life Review

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Honor 9 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

great device, get 5hrs of SOT under moderate usage

Wow, 8.5h sot is a lot! Maybe I need to check the battery guide out. On the other hand I was playing with the Honor 9 all day because I have it the second day and got 7 hours sot with 5% left. More than enough for me normally!

So, how does it compare to honor 8, is the additional 200mAh makes any noticeable difference?!

That's all I need to know

I think the battery life of the Honor 9 is ok but could be better. I am used to Samsung devices with OLED display technology where you get better SOTs. In my case with my Honor 9 I get around 7 hrs SOT and 1.5 days of usage without charging (with some battery tweaks and screen brighness to 50%). In comparision with my old Galaxy A3 I could reach easily 2 days which was perfect.
If the Honor 9 would have OLED display it would be amazing. Maybe the next Honor will get one, then I definately would buy again.

I would say moderate use. I don't play any 3D games with it. I mainly use Whatsapp, email pushs (4 accounts), quiz apps and YouTube.

Sounds interesting. I don't have any experience with Greenify but 10 % drop sounds less than normal. Which screen brightness do you use? In chrome do you also use it in data save mode?

Rommco05 said:
Yes I will reported when 50% of battery gone. Brightness is on 25-30% and no data saver in Chrome. You use data saver? Is it discutable if this can help improve battery, better to say not much tested data savers. I think android must work more if want to save some data...

Yes I use data saver in Chrome. I think it does a good job and it even tells you how much data it saves (in percent). For me it is around 15-25% less data for different websites. Less data exchange means also less battery drop and faster site loading. I would recommend it.

From what I read, yes it did remove it (mainly because it found a bug or something)

My honor 9 only gets about max. 4 hours of screen time with battery saving on and it doesn't last me a day with average use. I play one game but it's not a heavy one (clash of clans) but only for about max. 30min/day. My battery even drains faster than my galaxy j5 2015 (who is 2 years old) which is dissapointing. I lose about 5-8% battery for Facebooking for 10minutes.
Is there something wrong with my device or is it just my usage?

I get the same thing with my Honor 9 with the same model name. About 4-4.5 hours screen time when doing no power intensive task what so ever. No games. Just some web browsing using Chrome and always using Huawei Battery optimizer with minimal amount of apps running in the background. Location services and accounts syncing is turned off Really happy with everything else about the device..

I'm still in time to return my phone to the shop if there are any problems with with or if I don't like it. So I could basically ask for a new phone and give mine back to the phone. Would that solve any issues? Or should we just wait for updates?

I'm happy with the rest of the phone, so I'll keep mine. I just think it's a shame that the battery life isn't better than this on my device, but maybe it can get better with future updates.

No ActiveDisplay + Xposed-MobileRadioBugFix + No Adaptive Brightness = Immortal Moto

I'm getting FANTASTIC battery life! I'm at 63% right now, after close to 12 hours of total time (with 1.5 hours SOT), with an estimated 20 hours left. Standby time is the key here, when I am not using the Moto...the battery just stops in time. It's wild.
I will have to say with the following...
Active Display Disabled < Not necessary
Adaptive Brightness Disabled < around 10% to 15% brightness is honestly totally fine for outdoor use. It's crazy. I use 1% to 5% at night.
Xposed Module: MobileRadioBugFix < Most important!
My Moto X is now immortal.
GSam Battery Monitor is showing on average 2.0% to 3.0% loss per hour when I am using the phone.
While SOT does slowly kill it, standby time is just crazy now. When I lock the screen, it's almost like the battery gets frozen in time.
For anyone who is struggling to get through a day, try these stuff out!
Men, I don't need to fool with it. 20 hours a day before plugging it in is fine for my needs.
Stock out of the box after a week of power cycles.

This is terrifying. Coming from a oneplus one where I was used to getting 6 hours sot over 18 hours. I switched to a oneplus 2 and have only been getting 3 hours sot over the course of a day, thinking that's terrible. Sounds like the Moto x Pure isn't for me, which is a shame because I really do love the Moto features and way it feels in the hand.

You know that module doesn't actually cause a change in battery life? It simple adjusts the calculation of battery drain due to mobile radio. It will not, in any way, cause your battery to last longer.

The tabulation of what was being measured as battery use got stuck counting battery use as being caused by the mobile radio. this module just affects how battery stats are counted.
We shouldn't have to root to get great battery life. Just disable Moto Display, keep brightness low, and control when apps like Facebook sync. Android M will definitely bring improvements.
Not to mention, 6+ hours SOT is ridiculous. Put down your damn phone.

Not ridiculous at all... if you send roughly 500 texts a day, watch a lot of youtube, play a lot of music and browse the web a lot.
Also, rooting = Taking control of your device.
If you want the best, don't be lazy, take it into your own hands.

And ruin the non-replaceable battery? No thanks. Plus I don't want to be tethered to a wall, that's dumb. It's 2015, not 2000
The entire process of unlocking, throwing recovery+flashing super su takes less than 10 minutes. Did the entire thing on the can.
+ Greenify is the best battery saver ever. I'll never not root because of that.
Having said that. the DOZE feature in Android M is pretty slick. My Nexus 6 went from 2h SOT to 4.5 SOT on the last developer preview So hey, maybe that'll make everyone happier

Khalid,
I have a feeling B511 is equally good if not not slightly better. I really haven't done any extensive testing though. I get close to 48 hrs of moderate usage with 4g on with close to 10 hr SOT with B511. I didn't measure it while I was still on B326. Yes, the shortcuts dragdown menu on LP was so much better than on MM. What else do you think is better with B326.?

How in the world is anyone getting that much SOT with 4g? My maximum ever recorded was 8 hours and that was in the first week fresh out of the box. My Mate 7 gets about 3-4 hours of SOT on the new marshmallow emui 4.0. Software is not the problem, i've got a minimal amount of apps installed and I only use the web based version of facebook.

Maybe it's got something to do with my usage. I did make a concious effort to increase the SOT to see how far it can go with moderate usage. The display brightness was set to below 50%. I'd switch to Ultra power saving before going to bed and whenever I was too busy to be looking at Whatsapp. Additionally I'd kill whatsapp before putting the phone away and would check back for messages once or twice every hour. 4G only at work, and on the way to work, at home it's always wifi. No facebook, I uninstalled the app. No games, or screen mirroring, no more than 30 minutes of video playback. Bulk of the SOT was for Whatsapp and for web browsing. I found APUS browser to be the most power efficient.
Apart from the above I rooted my phone and installed Greenify, and I think it's doing a pretty good job at putting my phone to sleep minutes after I put it down. This feature works only on MM because it makes the inbuilt dose feature work more aggressively.
I admit that killing whatsapp every time I put the phone away is not something I'd be able to sustain, moreover it beats the whole purpose of whatsapp if you are only intermittently online. Whatsapp in indeed power hungry. Once I go back to using the phone normally, I think I'd still get close to 8 hrs of SOT, something I am sure most other folks should also be getting. An upgrade from KK to MM as in your case is not expected to cause reduced battery backup. In my experience both MM and LP have significantly better battery backup compared to KK. You might want to take a closer look at what is consuming the battery using the inbuilt battery management tool within settings.
ok here is my contribution,
updated 2days ago, battery drops 1% each 10 minutes while screen is on, i am not using any power intensive apps only whatsapp & IMO
during standby 1% drops each hour
see screen shots 5 hours with screen on 59% gone

Honor 6x Sleep takes 1% battery

Hello,
I am the new owner of a Honor 6x and the phone is absolutely great but i cannot have a decent sleep. It loses minimum 1% per hour.
This night, from midnight to 6AM, i've went from 54% to 48%, that sounds enormous...
Power saving mode is enable.
Phone has already been resetted.
I also updated last night to nougat.
I am in 3G since 4G is knowing to consume a lot, had this also on my previous phone.
Compsumption Level are Android system 20.85%
Android OS 12.76
Hardware side are Screen 21% and PHone Idle 7%
If i uses the 6x continuesly, i get easily 6SOT i don't know how to avoid loosing so much during sleep.
Thx, i am now performing a new factory reset for Nougat.
Wifi off when screen off is applied
Mobile network have been remained on but i do now change them in 2G.
I close all apps manually before closing screen.
I've tested and lost 1% in one hour with NO data and NO wifi..., the screen has been just very shortly checked 4 times...
I will compare after the reset.
Thanks.
By default, EMUI will kill a lot of background apps during sleep, so you shouldn't experience much battery drain. A factory reset may help you.

This is all because of the Nougat update.
Nougat update is draining battery faster than MM version.
Moreover officially Nougat has not been released for Honor 6X still.
Try to downgrade to MM for better battery.

Well u sound true , OP plz try to enable the option to close the apps automatically when screen off. Wil save much juice
Thanks, i saw everywhere else that closing apps in the background sound a good idea but is in fact asking more juice to the system.
I don't know what to think anymore.
i've did 6h14 SOT with about 55 minutes of gaming, brightness between 15-30 depending if outside or inside.
It seems that making full charging cycles (i've had the phone only since 3 days now ) is helping a bit.
Still, i am very far from getting 10 hours as i have seen in these forums

Do the math. Additional 340 only. 8 hrs, maybe even and a half. You can only do that if you take away the core Android processes, take away cell radio, take away touch screen inputs, and there you go. With 3340mAh you might even reach 24 hrs of display time. I don't care if you don't believe me.

Heavy use endurance

Playing Candy Crush for 22 hours straight can take its toll on your battery (and your marriage). Rate this thread to express how the Samsung Galaxy S9+'s battery performs under heavy use. A higher rating indicates that it lasts a long time even when playing games, streaming video and audio, and doing other CPU-intensive activities.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
About 3-4h of heavy use, about the same of what you can expect from the old s8+. I'm sure you can tweak that a bit when you fiddle with power saving modes and display resolution.
The S9+ doesn't have the best battery life. If you expect this phone to last you all day on a heavy usage you will be disappointed. If you need something that lasts all day under heavy use then the Mate 10 pro would be ideal. Another option would be the pixel XL 2.
I think the battery life is pretty good on the S9+. I spent the day on wifi but the screen on time in on par to when I had the Pixel 2 Xl.

yes this is a normal phenomenon if you use the phone continuously without a changeover or just a minimum break. nothing new under the sun. try not to use the phone and your results. This can normally be achieved at Exynos at any time.
A request to all: whoever posts battery endurance, plz mention the following :
1. Exynos version or Snapdragon version.
2. The entire lists of tweaks such as
applying of black theme , wifi Scanning off or not, data/wifi both on or one is off, nearby device Scanning is on or off, whether wifi power saving on or off, how many email accounts r in use and how many are in sync and what all are in sync, gallery etc r in sync to cloud or not, location method is in high accuracy/battery saving/GPS only, "improve accuracy" is on or off, if any power saving is enabled, "smart stay" and other measures in advanced feature settings are on or off, if any package disabler or manually disabling stuff via adb etc.....
3. Single or dual sim used.
4. Show the screenshot in full using "scroll capture".

Maybe, i dont really know how to measure it correctly. Just rooted mine today ? will try to measure with root if you can teach me how to measure correctly. Before root, usually get 7-9hr depends on my usage w or w/o gaming.
9 hrs of heavy usage . Battery flat in 12 hours.

OnePlus 6 Battery Performance: Initial Impressions

Hey guys, I almost got around 10 hours of screen on time with casual usage. So, I think I can easily get around 7 hours with gaming. How is your battery performing?
Got about 5.5 hours of SoT with some heavy use. Was gaming (idle game that keep the screen on), along with some pokemon go. All while downloading a few thousand songs, updating apps, OS etc. Considering my s6 lasted about 1.5hrs if I did this I'm well satisfied.
Also charged it before bed, and was at 99% when I woke up 8 hrs later, even with all social media apps installed.

99% after 8 hours? That's seem odd. Mine gets to 100% in 1:30 hours.

I think he is saying 1% reduction in battery from full charge overnight so very good screen off idle drain

I was able to get over 10 hours SOT regularly with my OnePlus 5. I'm hoping it's just as good if not better. But I'd settle for about the same due to the larger screen with more pixels.
Phone seems to run a bit hot. Got better SoT from 5t, but that was with LineageOS.
5t got 1hr Screen on per 10%
59 minutes of PUBG reduced 23% battery. This is without gaming mode.

I think so but I am not 100% sure. I will play again and then I will let you know.
Are there any tips for maximizing battery health over the long term?
Like avoiding half charges and all that kind of stuff?
I'm also really enjoying this phone. Ive been using it a lot today on 4G with no WiFi. No gaming but mainly social media apps and roughly on track for just under 10 hours SOT.
This is my first run with a rooted phone as the last couple of days have been stock and getting between 7 to 8 hours SOT.

the autonomy is excellent and depends on the use too.
in my case I have 1 day according to the usage see 2 in moderate use.
after I invite you to search the net energy-consuming apps, you will be surprised and surely understand better your over-consumption.

Pokémon go for a couple of hours while playing music, playing marvel strike force, watching a fair bit of YouTube on top of constant Facebook and WhatsApp activity I get a solid 7 and a half hours. Not quite as good as my Nokia 8 I came from but definitely happy.
I get 6 hours with very light use with quite a low brightness and as many black themed apps as possible.

Actually the best way to maintain a lithium battery would be to charge it from like 60 to 70 percent and never let it go above or below that.
More realistically, plug your phone in to charge up to somewhere around 80% when you get a chance throughout the day, avoiding letting it go below 40% when possible. Don't worry about charging your phone to 100% when you might need the battery though (for example don't risk getting lost without a phone for 911/GPS on a hike), just mainly avoid leaving plugged in WHILE it's at 100% and definitely do not store it at full or nearly/completely dead charge for long periods.
The charging port is a completely separate ribbon for the OP6 that should be stupid easy to replace so my advice on that would be don't worry about damaging your charging port as long as you're not handling your phone constantly while it's plugged in. For me, I'm going to wait until the charging port assemblies get really cheap and then buy maybe 2 or 3 for future use, so I won't have to worry about wearing out the phone, it's certainly more desirable to open it up and lose the water resistance than to have to buy a whole new phone simply because of a non functional charging port.
