K-9 mail is the best Android open source e-mail client out there. The only thing it lacks, in our opinion is a widget showing your mailbox on home screen.
So we have created one.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kbsdevelopment.k9mailwidget
We hope many people find it useful, as we do.
Does it work with K9 Material?
Also is it open source?
Hello, not opensource at the moment. If K9 material is just a fork of K9, it should work, please give it a try.
Thanks for the widget. I'm waiting for it for a long time and it's nearly perfect for me. It would be more perfect, if there is the possibility to filter and show only the unread messages, like in the widget of the [email protected] mail app.
Hi there, thanks, we can implement this, wait for a new version
Hi shocking-blue, we have implemented a switch to show only unread messages.

Viliam

Perfect, thanks a lot!
Nice work!
It would be perfect if you could change the colors.
I need a black design with white text.
It's more powersaving on Samsung's AMOLED screens and looking better in the night.
If you also can make it transparent (adjustable) it would be great.

whenever i click on the Gmail Unread Widget that i create, it goes to the first email, and then i have to back out to get to the inbox.
i would really like it to just go to my inbox when i click on the widget.
i have tried to contact the developer to no avail, any ideas?\
if not, any other widgets with similar functionality that work?

Please... any help would be awesome, this is beginning to drive me crazy. i have seen others with the same problem, but no one appears to have the solution!
any way to incorporate minimalistic text with sms unread or to make the app missed it to open applications
I like missed it a lot however i don't like how it's not able to be clicked. like i have minimalistic text set up on my homescreen to read messages and when i click on it, it goes to messages obviously
but anyway to add it so unread bubble is over minimalistic text or a way to make missed it clickable. i see they have a setting for applications but don't know how to use that
i've created photoshop icons that say messages, however for the unread count widget, it's the one size and that's too small for me so looking for any way to do this if at all possible
Not to my knowledge. Ofcourse I've only been playing with them for about a week each. Hopefully someone else can chime in and help ya. Took me forever to get the Minimalistic widget set up, lol.
yeah there's so much that app can do, and missed it app is very similar just wish it could open an application like minimalistic can do
and sms unread does open the app, just doesn't look nearly as good as the other two apps
hmm, there's got to be a way but yeah, i'm hooked to minimalistic text

I know this is already and old-ish thread, but if you're still looking to do this: I think LauncherPro allows you to stack widgets.. So you might be able to put an empty MinimalisticText widget (no background and link to the application) over the MissedIt! widget.
I haven't really tried LauncherPro though, only read about it.. So I may be wrong, but I seem to remember reading somewhere that it can stack widgets. I can't find the exact link now, but I think it was something posted in the Post your Screenshots thread.
Edit: Uh.. I just bought Missed It! from the Market, and there's an option in the settings to launch the application associated with any notification being shown (version 1.5.3), so it looks like you don't need to use MinimalisticText to create links. But anyway, guess that option is still there anyway.
You can get SMS unread (and about a million other things) in MTW using Tasker

Tasker looks cool, but in my local currency it costs R47.49 (ZAR) compared to MissedIt at R7.03. Pretty big price difference for simply displaying an unread notification count on your launcher home screen...
My Gmail is`nt working with Missed It, I have the account added or what not but when e-mails come in, it does`nt show on Missed It, any ideas?
Hi there,
Since the new update of Facebook Messenger, the functionality of sending texts (SMS) has been removed. As I don't like holding on to an older version that will get outdated one time, I'm wondering if there is any text app like it.
I have searched dozens of pages on Google, including threads on xda, but none seem to have what I'm looking for. The closest I have come to is GO Sms (which I'm using now) and SMS Ninja (I even tried Paranoid Android with it's Halo functionality) Both SMS apps have the same chathead-like popup of FB Messenger which you can press to open, but once you close the message, the popup is gone.
In Facebook Messenger, the chathead-popup stays on the screen until you drag it to the bottom to delete the overlay from the screen.
Do you happen to know an app that provides me with what I'm looking for?
Thanks in advance for your time!
I'm afraid I don't have an answer but I'm curious why you want it to stay open? I never used the Facebook messenger and am wondering if I missed some functionality.

What I like about Facebook Messenger is that I can open the chathead, read the message, and don't have to reply instant because the popup would close. I can just close the bubble, go on with what I was doing and reopen the bubble whenever I want to reply
Ok, thanks. Not sure if that would suit me or not as I've never tried it. I avoid Facebook on principle although I grudgingly created an account some time ago.
Maybe you could give Portal a try. Personally I'm more interested in the multi-window function it provides.

Ninja SMS popups work almost identically to Facebook's chat heads. You just have to click the collapse arrow instead of the close button.

Oh I didn't know that! Although I find the popup layout of Ninja SMS pretty ugly, I guess I'll have to live with that for now.
I'm gonna give Portal a shot as well once I get home, although I'm not sure if it has the permanent popup functionality that I'm looking for.
Thanks to both of you for your helpful replies! More suggestions always welcome
Hey guys, letting you know what solution I'm using now:
Textra is a great, simple, text app that uses popups with quick reply. It doesn't have sticky, permanent chat heads, HOWEVER. It does have the option at the popup 'Leave it', which leaves a notification in the drawer. Whenever you press the notification, the popup opens again (you can keep doing this).
It's like a chathead that doesn't take up space! Awesome!

Don't forget you can (kind of) change the appearance of the popups! Go to settings, choose theme. I use Holo Light just because it's simple. I agree that it could use some extra customization features. It seems like the devs do a really good job of responding to user feedback though, so maybe that'll be fixed in an upcoming version (fingers crossed )

I've heard awesome things about Textra as well, I might have to give that a go.
Hey all I've been on Android for a little under a year now and if there's one thing I don't like, it's been the e-mail experience. I can't find any mail app outside of the ridiculously priced Maildroid Pro that has what I'm looking for (and I don't even think what I'm looking for is unreasonable!).
Here's what I'm looking for in a mail app:
- Non-ugly icon (I'm looking at you K-9)
- Clean interface
- Support for both Hotmail and GMail with no issues and push notification (Evomail)
- Loads all images in e-mails by default, or at least with the option to turn this feature on (a lot of apps don't)
- Has an informative widget that displays the subject and brief bit of the body in it (SolMail has a useless widget that displays too little info and Evomail has NO widget unbelievably)
I'd be perfectly happy with the default Mail and GMail app (either or) on my Nexus 4 if it wasn't for the fact that neither of them display images automatically, and I have to click on "show all images" all the time. It's annoying. I'm not sure why all this is so difficult, especially when I had no problems with e-mail when I was on iOS. Is there anything anyone can recommend?

I saw that, but it doesn't help with my Hotmail account, and I want it all with one app. Any other recommendations?
In that case, I join your question, my main account is hotmail also, lol

The latest version of [email protected] Mail works brilliantly for me. I believe is covers everything you have asked for.

It seemed so, until I noticed that my Hotmail doesn't get pushed properly. I need both. Or am I not choosing certain settings correctly?

I am not having issues with my hotmail getting pushed.... It might be something to do with the settings being used.I am using pop3.live.com on port 995.
Don't know if this will help. I think I also had to make a change in the hotmail settings also but can't remember where that was sorry.

When I changed the IMAP server settings to read pop3.live.com, and port 995, it couldn't connect to the server?

You may need to look up the other settings required. I know there are more but that was all I could remember off the top of my head. I don't have my tablet here to check sorry.

Hi, as a SolMail Team, we want to improve the widget for you~ So, what's your opinion of perfect size of widget (with subject and brief bit of the body)? 1x1 or 4x2 is a little bit small, isn't it? Thanks for your opinion!

The default Mail and GMail app's style of widget is all I need. Subject, brief lines of body, done. The lines of the body should be changeable by the user. I actually use 5 rows of icons with Nova Launcher and would prefer 5x4, but as long as it's resizable just like the stock app I'm fine with it.

oops, sorry for late update.
We added resizable and scrollable widget on SolMail.(actually it's 2.0 update on May). It can be extended to the tablet size!
Thank you for your valuable suggestion.
I'm using Cloudmagic now, so far I have liked it. The only downside for you could be that the widget is quite simplistic. Anyway for me it works because I usually use the notification area to peek at new mails.
Oh and is really beautiful.

Highly customizable Widget that combines calendar events and tasks in a compact and minimalistic way.
It can connect to android's calendar system and to the following task providers
- Open Tasks (compatible with owncloud's and nextcloud's task apps)
- Astrid Clone
- GTasks
Source Code is available under MIT License. Forking and relisencing is highly recommended, although pull requests are also welcomed.

Hi, by "Gtasks" you mean the app named "Gtasks" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.dayup.gtask
or do you mean Google Tasks API?

@jsalatas, would it be possible to add a feature to assign text colour to a calendar?
Right now the widget uses the colours set in google calendar for the indicator bar at the beginning of every line. Would it be possible to use this colour for the text also?
Or to manually assign colours rather than using the colours from google?
Thank you very much!

Yeah! Actually I didn't though of it because I use my own cloud server and I control the calendar and tasks colors from there!
Anyway... I have opened an issue at github about it, but I honestly don't know when I'll do it :\

Cool!
I'm looking forward to it. But no rush. Just happy I found your plugin.
Cheers :good:
I was wondering, will you add a month view as well?
Wiuld be pretty cool as I cannot find any good transparent month widgets .

Um, not sure what that it would like. Is it possible to some how sketch it? :\
In any case I don't think that I have time for this right now but f I had some kind of description/sketch/whatever on how it may look like, I could add an issue in github for whenever I find some time.
