Speaker quality - Touch HD vs Xperia vs Omnia

Just a quick question about the speaker quality of these 3 phones. I would like to occasionally listen music directly from the speakers. I've read tons of reviews and the only thing missing is the actual speaker quality. Which one is the best? From what i read here, touch hd's speakers are awful while Xperia is supposed to have great sound. Can anyone comment?
I've weighed all the pro's and con's, and Touch HD was winning, but then i read about the poor audio quality of the speakers, and since i hate the fact it has no flash, it seems i'm gonna get Xperia.
So, in terms of music listening (both with and without headphones), which one is best of the three?

I have and HD and quality of speakers are just normal. I think there is only one speaker.
If you have that item on first priority then there must be better alternatives than HD. It´s obviusly better (and comparable to other phones with the same category) when you use good headphones.
But before make a decision just try to hold an HD in your hand....you will buy it for sure

That's not my first priority, but considering HD has no flash, that's the second MAJOR drawback for me.
Could you compare the sound from HD to that from TyTn if you've heard it? The sound on my TyTn is just awful
As far as holding it - i live in a very small town, and opnly place to see the devices is my local carrier. And they don't allow the device to be turned on. Other carriers allow it, but don't have Xperia or HD

Hard for me to imagine why not having a flash is such a huge thing, but to each their own.
As eljoe said, try out the devices first hand before you buy.
You're spending some good coin, so maybe making a drive to a nearby city that has the phones you want, and you're able to use them.
I too have a TyTN, and am disappointing also, but I don't htink you'll be happy with the sound from any phone's speaker.
Remember, you're very limited by the kind of sound you're going to get from most phone speakers, since the speakers are so tiny...

Well, i'm not exactly looking for dolby surround here, but i'm hopeing for something better than TyTn speakers. Atleast so the mp3 ringtones sound good.
And like i said, i'm not exactly in a position to try out the devices.

Go for the samsung I8510 (Innov8), has some great speakers on it.
I think out of the three the X1 has the best sound... In a relative way of speaking. The sound will still suck, kind of. Good luck!

Sorry I´m off topic here, but wanted to say that non HD or Xperia have the speaker quality that has Universal with it´s stereo clear sound speakers.

I got the HD and the speaker quality sucks big time.
Whenever you put on speakerphone the voice distorts. Music distorts aswell so you must turn it down.
My brothers n95 with two speakers doesn't distort at all.

The Nokia 5800 has the best speaker sound Ive ever heared on a Cellphone....

Yeah galaxys it seems that TP2 have great speakers!
I can´t wait to put my hands on it!

The only windows mobile phone that has loud decent quality speakers is the Samsung SCH-i760. Also, I have this phone, and it is one of the loudest. The bass i much better than HD, X1, and Omnia.
It isn't as good as an N95 but it is the best stereo speaker phone that has windows mobile.

AFAIK, HTC doesn't even have an acoustics design team for phones. So, anything from HTC, I would say speaker quality would be bad to mediocre, and that too by chance.
If speaker quality is high on the priority list, go for phones by companies which at least try to do some research on acoustics. Examples: Nokia, Samsung, LG, etc.. But definitely not HTC. And Xperia is also manufactured by HTC, so no, I would automatically dismiss that one too.

ultill now the best loudspeaker i tried is from my XpressMusic 5800. the stereo speaker rocks. 2nd best was touch pro 2. very realistic sound . both the X1 and the touch HD louspeaker sucks.. cant even hear anything, too sharp, not even a single percent of bass. hurts my ears. PS: tested omnia 1 and omnia 2. acceptable sound quality but i think nokia still wins in the loudspeaker comparism

^yes, the TP2 speakers sounded very sweet!

The best sound devices (stereo dual speakers of course) are Universal and TP2

i have a x1 and can tell u that the speaker quality is very poor. the phone itself makes very good quality sound through the headphones but the speaker is very poor (and there is only one speaker, if money is not a option the x2 2 speakers which i hear but can not confirm are higher quality than the x1 speaker).

Yes, the speaker quality of the Xperia is unfortunately veeery poor. So poor, that I bother about it quite every day. :-(

Earphones audio quality?

How is the audio quality with earphones (standard earphones)?

the phone actually doesn't come with any earphones, and i wouldn't expect the motorola ones that you can buy are anything out of the ordinary

The phone does come with earphones... the 16gb dual chip comes with earphones and wallcharger.

Hey guys, i was wondering the same thing, so i did a test today. I hope it can also help others.
Short story of mine:
I have a more than 3 years old Galaxy S i9000 i want to replace. And after watching the market recent years, i really couldn't justify the prices for a new smartphone, because basically, they all are not far better than my old phone, which is still rocking till this day (even with Kitkat ROM already).
Galaxy S is known for its pristine audio quality thanks to Wolfson audio chip (which real quality can be unleashed with an app called voodoo sound).
So as i found Moto G i was stoked. The price is hot, it has everything i would need, not more not less. The software is very snappy thanks to Google as Motorola's new owner optimizing the heck out of it, battery life is great, it has stock OS, and once again: the price is just crazy good. The last thing i had to check out was the sound quality.
So i went to a local shop with a Moto G 8GB. I brought my Galaxy S, and my trusted in ear monitor: Ultimate Ears triple fi 10 pro. Those earphones are legit. (Before somebody asks, why i would give so much money for earbuds, but not for phone: i use them as a monitor on stage as well). So i copied some reference tracks from Galaxy S to Moto G via Bluetooth and compared the sound quality side by side. Genres included: Hard Rock, Jazz, Classical, and Pop.
It was obvious at the first track: (Bombtrack from Rage Against the Machine).
Lot of hiss at Moto G, even at low levels. Then when the band starts rocking, the low frequency just sucks, also it sounds like the mids are just not really there, and the highs are bumped to compensate, which is fatiguing after a short time. Put the earphones back to my Galaxy S, oh God, i know why i love its audio quality.
I remember doing some similar tests with previous models like Galaxy S3, some HTC, etc. Galaxy killed them all, but the difference was never been this obvious. Maybe i'm bit spoiled in this area, and i don't know if it's relevant with cheap earphones, as high quality earphones always reveal the weaknesses.
I guess you just can't have everything at those prices.
Too bad, i guess i'll wait bit more till i say goodbye to my Galaxy S (can't live without it, can't kill it :laugh: )
Like i said, if you're set to buy it, try it yourself, maybe it's not that relevant to you. Otherwise you might look somewhere else.

I thought exactly the same (okay maybe I don't have as much insight as yourself :laugh: ) when I got mine yesterday and was a little frustrated to say the least, but I think I've found the cause of the issue.
If you go into Settings->Sound->Audio effects then you will find a menu with all sorts of EQ settings for both the built in speaker and wired headphones. By default it is set on the '3D stereo' profile for some reason and it sounds terrible. I switched it to 'Custom' with Surround and Equaliser to off. Equaliser set to Balanced also sounds good depending on the music.

i realy like to listen to music on my phone so i really hope the sound is not to bad on moto g because i will buy it soon.. i hope other people will share their experience.

Well, this led me to a try:
I recorded the same song played on PC internal digitally (loop drivers) and once hooked the MotoG to my RME equipment, which has an astounding quality. Both spectral analysis' looked very much the same, so I think the DAC of the MotoG isn't that bad.

this is absolutley correct.
I had an HTC One, which sounded worse than the Moto G. Nothing wrong with the audio output + it's got an equalizer to fiddle to one's own needs.
Tested with my old but good Shure headphones.

Sounds like the EQ is messing things up. We will have to wait until all the people who ordered the phone come flooding in here to discuss it and we can come to a consensus.

Has anyone tried ViPER4Android on rooted moto g?
i'm using it on my current phone, it's a great software.to enhance music quality.

I for one am not impressed with the audio quality on the Moto G. It sound mushy and not clear at all. And yes I have been through the audio settings and tried a few different settings and tried Viper4Android.
Reading the responses above I'm starting to feel like my unit is somehow damaged.

What is that
SBH20 is stereo Bluetooth headset that has one particularity: NFC compatibility. You can use it for listening music or making calls either.

Straight Sony Mobile official website or many different suppliers like Amazon (which i highly recommend with good price though)
Unboxing
Package is minimalist.
Out of box, you got a tiny micro-usb charger, around 10 cm, along with USB power adapter of 850 mAh (EP800), headphones also shorter than Z's original ones, and its 3 different earbuds cover made in silicone, typical user guide and warranty.
Design
Sony provides really good job in term of design, same for that SBH20, minimalist, simple square in several colors (black, white, orange, pink, green...).
Its incredibly tiny and light.
measurements:
Size: 33.3 x 33.3 x 12.3 mm
Weight: 12.3 grams
look it deeply, it has matte plastic texture which seems to be the right choice, glossy tends to be easily scratched.
Main buttons as play, next and previous are engraved and indeed very hard too see.
You got also power button with LED indicator, volume buttons and 3.5 mm audio jack port.
Connection
You can appair with your phone through NFC.
How is it work?
Put it just above Xperia logo from the back of phone and it will appaired.
Dont forget to enable NFC.
However, NFC or not, the launch bothers me because of slowsness (way slower than my Sony headset that is also NFC and BT wireless)
Range of surprising good, you can still listening musics up to 15 m or even more until at the sounds starts suffering
Once, i went down the building stairs while listening music, 2 floors lower, the sounds started suffering and i eventually realized i forgot my phone in my apartment
You can also automatize it through Smart Connect in order to make events
e.g When enabling SBH20, it will automatically launch Walkman and playing music
When disabling SBH20, it will automatically disable Bluetooth, stopping music...
I highly recommend to use it.
Since 4.3 update, i have some connection issue, ''Throw'' was launched every time when i connect it
Since 4.3 update, i noticed some dysfunction with BT devices independently of NFC.
Sound quality
For music, sound quality is surprisingly respectable. At least for a smartphone, it will never approach a sound quality from great audio headset such as Fidelio L1, M1.
Wireless always lowers audio quality, however Sony has great idea to give you a bunch of good earphones (original's one and SBH20's one)
It makes sound less poor than expected.
Dont expect too much, its just average and well enough for such nomad use.
When it comes about calls, its another story.
When i am making calls through it, noise cancellation is terrible: you cant hear properly but the worse thing is interlocutor often barely hear you when you are talking
i believe its depends where you are
outside, on the jungle of street, drop it.
Battery
Sony proudly announced 6 hours of battery life.
I use it daily and quite disagree.
My average battery life up to 4 hours, 5 hours at the maximum
Yes battery life is crap, it could be better.
PROS
- It has cute design
- Tiny (you can put it away in your pocket)
- Earphones (way better than any crap from other smartphones)
- Useful for Z (if you are too lazy for opening jack's trap every time)
CONS
- Average battery life
- Average sound quality overall
Final thoughts
Buy it if you dont bother about the audio quality, otherwise get headset such as Fidelio L1, not same price though. You can find SBH20 for less than 25 euros on Amazon (within the Apple's earphone price range)
Battery might be just for a day of use or a long travel.

Definitely flat but its depends of what wired headset you ve compared to.
Mine is also come from Sony and both makes sound flat
Wired headset always loses bass unless you are willing to put money on quality stuffs
e.g Parrot Zik is good enough (for general public i would mean) for a wired headset but really sucks if you compare to others none wireless audio headsets on the market such as Fidelio M1
The good thing is earbud cover earphones that make sounds more powerful with more bass

i am using them for about 5 month. Like them a lot. I think that was my best buy ) Battery life of phone from usual wired headphones and sbh-20 nearly same.

I'm using those since December and i can say they are very good. just today i did listen to music for about 4h.

I am too using this since 4-5 months. The sound is not great to write about, it just does it's job. If you are a music lover, then definitely a no-no. You can get about 1.5 hrs of (music playback + calls) with standby of about 4-5 hrs before the battery dies. I wish Sony had given a better battery life of atleast 8-10 hours and a better earphones with a good bass along with this device.

SBH52 lasts longer wthin 8-10 hours but you are going to lose its lovely miniaturization although its still quite small
best advice i would give for people who have heavy daily use or keep listening while travelling, plug your Z earphones into SBH20, its way longer, when battery life drained out, use earphone instead

yes its bluetooth device, it should run on most of devices including iPhone
NFC would be only optional if you have NFC
i suggest you to pick SBH50 if you want better battery life otherwise SBH20 sounds good

How about volume levels? Is it loud enough? I have an xperia zr with not enough volume levels so i want to buy this.

I've had this headset for about 4 months and coupled with @proj.SoNICo audio mod and with the gauzes taken out of the headphones and the little plastic gromit inside,the sound is superb!! On My XZ Rooted UB and running eXistenZ V6 Black Edition!! And @halfbloodmutant..The volume is Awesome!!

Have my (black) SBH20 for three days, it is really quite good, especially for that price.
There is one thing I haven't figured out yet - does the LED color change depending on the charging process? I think, that when it is lower on the battery, it seems to be kinda yellowish and later gets full green, but it may be just me watching it too much

i think yes,the colour of the led changes as you said with the charging process,same thing with my headset when the battery is low,yellow at first and then changes to green when fully charged!!

Just a little question, i guess you've used the Sony-Headset MH-EX300AP, how does it compare Sound and Mic-wise?
Also how long do the batteries last?
This little bugger, seems to be just made for an Motorbike-Intercom System
Its seems to be pretty small so that it could theoretically even fit inside a helmet somewhere where you can reach it in the front, and due to the 3,5mm Jacket you could pair it with those :

The sound quality is average man, but awsome for this price range.

Bluetooth audio is really bad quality.

Hey all, I've searched and found somewhat conflicting information on this.
Coming from an iPhone most recently but also having used many other flagship Android devices.
The bluetooth audio quality on this phone just sucks. I have tried using viper audio and other various sound mods and they all sound the same: absolutely abysmal.
The highs break up, the lows just aren't there and the overall quality sounds as though it's a really low bit rate file, even with lossless files.
I've tried multiple devices and speakers, ranging from cheap headphones to expensive reviewers and speakers and they all suck.
I haven't tried APTx though, mostly because I don't want to pay extra for it.
From what I've read, many people share my experience.
I've tried different kernels and roms and they all sound the same.
I obviously can't return the device as it has void Knox.
My question is, is there anyone out there who has a solution to this? It is my only gripe with this phone.

I too have the exynos version. How bad was the s7 if this sounds better?

I am iPhone 7 Plus ex. owner. I find S8+ (exynos edition) bluetooth sound quality is as stunning as iPhone 7 Plus.
I use Bose Soundsport Wireless & also Edifier M1370BT. Both sound great.
By the way I do tune the equalizer and below setting is my preferable.

I have. The issue isn't the EQ or anything, it's just that the quality of the audio stream is sub optimal. I may just be picky but there is definitely break up of the highs and an almost bit crush type effect on the whole stream. It sounds like it's a 96kbps file ripped off of Limewire in 2005.

Hmm. I might need to start discussions with my telco. I know that some laws differ when it comes to Knox and warranty in different countries. Not sure how it goes in Australia.
I guess I'll find out!

US Qualcomm, I have absolutely no problem with BT on any paired device - except for my "new" Elantra's BT which speeds up the sound for about 30 seconds when first paired after turning the car on. But that is the car's BT doing that, not the phone.

Any chance you are connecting with Bluetooth 5.0? I know it is slower than 4.x.

If you are looking for a great sound quality, don't use Bluetooth.

Thanks, but seeing as that was one of the things they were touting about this phone, I'd like to use it.

The big thing with 5.0 is a further distance. It is slower than 4x and that's why I thought it might deliver lower quality. After looking at everything. None of your Bluetooth devices will be 5.0 compatible and therefore cannot connect via 5.0.

What do you mean with you haven't tried APTX?
Do your headphones not support it?
Otherwise, you won't have to pay for it, it's an inbuilt tech at S8/+
I use 3 different BT headphones, all of them sound good (B&O, Apollo and Bose; as on other smartphones)!

Because it's a protocol that has to be supported by both devices. My headphones and receivers do not support it.

I can report that my exynos s8+ Portuguese has no Bluetooth issues, 5.0 utilities or not. Can't really say it is better than my s7 edge, since i tell no difference but it is very good both on my Sony SRS-X7 bluetooth speakers and XB950BT xtreme bass headphones.
As far as I can tell, the difference from this to the 3.5 Jack is volume, that is lower (way lower) on bluetooth

Mine is UK Exynos version. Bluetooth sound quality is poor. Sometimes it sounds from a distance and automatically changes to high bass. I have used 2 or 3 Bluetooth devices, with same results.

I have the Brazilian Exynos version, the quality is horrible paired on my Jetta, it really seems like I'm listening to a 64kbps song, I already had several other smartphones and with none I had this problem, really a disappointment.

Sounds like a settings issue, no pun intended.
Try a network reset and clear system cache for starters. Hopefully that gets it.
Make sure Wearables app manager, Galaxy Buds etc have all their many needed permissions.
Check advanced bt and sound settings.
Developer options, play with those as well.
Lol, on my N10+ Wearables app has at times puked all over me including a few less than perfect Buds updates. Generally it works well... but not always

Voice calling on the WF-1000MX4 is not great with background noise. Here is an example:
The over the ear WH-1000MX4 are fine with calls, but I mainly wear them for intense music listening. If you need something just for voice then go with something cheaper.

sony wi-c200 is great for calls and long battery life with usb-c charging.
keep it microphone closer to yout mouth. Sony xm4 makes too much noise.

What bluetooth headphones are you using? I have different headphones I use and no issues on any of them. With the galaxy buds pro I had to change some settings, otherwise is sounded crap, no bass etc...When all noise controls are off, there is no bass and crappy sound...Turning on active noise cancelling or ambient mode did the trick....

That is very strange.. I tested the Bluetooth on my jbl partybox and samsung soundbar and my denon amp...I tested with s9,s10+,s20+,s21 ultra and new s22 ultra and not a big difference between them...each generation of phone is a bit better.. I'm no audio guru, but it sounds acceptable to me...the only thing i did change is in the equalizer, I changed the bass and treble settings too my liking, as the standard settings are to flat and lifeless

HAve you unpaired and repaired them? I use the buds Pro and Beats Studio3 and only one time they did this you described, but after that sound quality has been incredible.

This is why I bought a second N10+ rather than upgrade; it fulfills its mission.
Still running on Android 9 and 10 for the same reason.
Do devices have software loaded? Check settings and for updates. Clear data.
Developer options, what are the devices using, LDAC? At what resolution?
What about the Cport>DAC route, does it sound good? Again go through all advance bt and sound settings. Don't use the Samsung graphic equalizer. Poweramp is the best, if using it see what its audio output info is showing.

Play with these 2 settings, try off first.
Both on should sound better but may behave erratically forcing you to turn them off.

Uconnect 8.4 2016 dodge charger. with apple Ipad and my one plus 9 pro it sounds perfect, but my gf s21, my tab s7 plus, and my s22 ultra sounds like complete trash! Especially when my watch 4 is connected to my s22 ultra. It's so bad I just use my iPad to play audio..

What codec Samsung's using?
What about the Apple? At what bitrate?
What codecs does the car audio accept?
Use the 24 bit hard connection for best resolution. All bt will have limited bandwidth.
If you have HDCD wav files they must be kept in the 24 bit digital realm going into the reciever or you will degrade their resolution.

When using Android both one plus and Samsung uses SBC, based off developer options. I assume apple does too...it's definitely on Samsung's end. I've googled this issue before and seems it's widespread and none of the temporary fixes help...Ive contacted Samsung about it...but it's hard to replicate the issue. Basically on Samsung devices the highs on music has static noises
